Episode Overview In this powerful conversation, John Kitchens sits down with real estate professional Renee Velasquez to discuss one of the most challenging — and overlooked — aspects of the industry: guiding families through the sale of a home during major life transitions, especially when caring for aging loved ones. Drawing from her own deeply personal experience and years of client work, Renee breaks down the emotional, legal, and logistical hurdles that families face, from probate pitfalls to the delicate “right-sizing” conversation. You'll learn how to prepare clients before crisis hits, build a trusted network of attorneys and service providers, and serve with empathy while still leading decisively. Whether you're an agent looking to better serve this growing market or a family member navigating these waters yourself, this episode is a must-listen. What You'll Learn in This Episode The Emotional Landscape of Families in Transition How emotions override logic in real estate decisions during difficult times Understanding the “brokenhearted, disgruntled, and disinterested” client types Legal & Financial Essentials Why wills alone aren't enough to avoid probate — and the one document that can save months of stress The critical role of estate, trust, and probate attorneys — and how to build a referral network Common mistakes families make when transferring property Right-Sizing & Housing Options Why Renee avoids the term “downsizing” and what “right-sizing” really means Exploring ranch homes, condos, multi-generational housing, assisted living, and memory care facilities How reverse mortgages can be a viable solution for funding care needs Practical Solutions for Overwhelmed Families Handling a home full of possessions: storage, donation, selling, or “as-is” sales The benefits of packaging a home sale for buyers willing to purchase with contents included How to lead group decision-making when multiple heirs are involved Agent Leadership & Empathy The balance between compassion and strong leadership in emotional transactions When to refer the listing to another agent (and how to co-list) Building lifetime relationships by guiding clients through one of the hardest seasons of their lives Resources & Links Mentioned Connect with Renee Velasquez: Facebook, Instagram, Email: renee@thersvpgroup.com, Call/Text: (330) 321-3339 HoneyBadgerNation.com – Events, merch, training, and resources for top agents StoryBrand by Donald Miller – Framework for positioning as a guide, not the hero CHSA/CHBA Systems – Increase perceived value and authority in every deal "Comparison is the thief of joy, and I stopped comparing my business to everyone else's." – Renee Velasquez Connect with Us: Instagram: @johnkitchenscoach LinkedIn: @johnkitchenscoach Facebook: @johnkitchenscoach If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to subscribe and leave a review. It is so important for kids to see their parents worshipping the Lord at church and at home. In this episode we talk about how we have to be like children to enter the kingdom of heaven, and allow them to join the adults into their spiritual experiences like a praise and worship service. “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 19:14Follow us on Social Media: @awakenthepodcastHosts: Caleb and Yeniffer Velasquez

In the 94th episode of the WGI Unleashed podcast, we're excited to introduce you to Chris Velasquez, EIT, a Senior Graduate Engineer in our Civil + Land Development Team based out of WGI's San Antonio, TX office! Join us as hosts Dan and Katie travel to the Alamo City to sit down with Chris for a spirited, insightful, and entertaining conversation filled with compelling career highlights, hilarious anecdotes, and fascinating behind-the-scenes stories from Chris's unique journey within the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. From Curiosity to Engineering Excellence Chris's passion for engineering and innovation sparked long before his professional career began, and his journey to where he is today is anything but conventional. Born in New Jersey but raised in Rosenberg, Texas, Chris humorously recounts his childhood experiences growing up in a quiet subdivision, jokingly referring to it as "the hood." His curiosity and keen problem-solving abilities were evident from a young age. On the podcast, Chris shares vivid memories of his school years, including an unusual educational structure where sixth, seventh, and eighth grades each had their own separate buildings, and his early fascination with engineering, sparked by hands-on high school classes in aerospace, mechanical, and civil engineering. College Triumphs and Steel Bridge Competitions Chris chose to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), balancing the desire for independence with proximity to family. At UTSA, Chris actively participated in the American Society of Civil Engineers' Steel Bridge Competition, where his team repeatedly secured regional wins and competed nationally against some of the most prestigious universities in the country! Internship Experiences and Transition to WGI Chris gained valuable experience through internships, initially exploring public works before discovering WGI through a UTSA career fair. His humorous anecdote about initially confusing WGI with a color guard organization highlights his amicable personality and underscores his seamless fit within WGI's culture. His internship at WGI proved instrumental, smoothly transitioning him into a full-time role upon graduation, thanks to the mentorship of colleagues in the public works team. From Intern to Influencer Over four years at WGI, Chris has grown from an eager intern to a respected Senior Graduate Engineer. He reflects on his professional development, noting how he now actively mentors new team members and interns. Chris highlights how each project presents unique challenges, making every day exciting and engaging. He emphasizes how teamwork and a supportive environment have significantly contributed to his personal and professional growth at WGI. Life Beyond The Office Outside work, Chris enthusiastically shares his love for chicken wings, especially lemon pepper wings cooked in an air fryer, proudly noting his dislike of chicken nuggets. He also humorously recounts the San Antonio office tradition of participating in the "Hot Ones" spicy wings challenge, despite his aversion to spicy foods, simply because he "doesn't like giving up." What Makes WGI Special Chris quickly points out that what makes WGI stand out is its remarkable people and collaborative spirit. "At WGI, you're more than just an employee - you're part of a close-knit community genuinely invested in your growth and success," Chris shares, emphasizing the nurturing and supportive company culture that inspires everyone to reach their highest potential. Tune In This episode is packed with unforgettable moments - from conquering UTSA's Steel Bridge competitions and navigating spicy wing challenges in the San Antonio office, to mentoring the next generation of engineers and solving real-world infrastructure problems with heart and humor. Listen in this week as Tiffany highlights five key truths about Jesus and our identity in Him. Through Him, we are children of God. He sets us free to pursue a life of repentance and spiritual growth. He calls us to love others in our words and actions. He leads us into truth so we can navigate false teaching, staying grounded in the Word. John reminds us that as believers, we have the Holy Spirit living within us. He is greater than any power, any pressure, or any persuasion of this world. We don’t fight in our own strength. We don’t have to live afraid or timid. We can live aware, alert, and anchored in the One who have already overcome! Are you spending your resources wisely to amplify your thought leadership—or just making noise? In today's fast-paced marketplace, standing out from the crowd is tougher than ever. Peter Winick is joined by Paige Velasquez Budde, CEO at Zilker Media, one of Austin's fastest-growing agencies specializing in building people-driven brands. Paige shares insights from her extensive experience working with top global thought leaders and brands. Discover why your personal brand matters even more than your corporate identity. Paige explains how trust and connection are built person-to-person, especially in high-touch B2B environments. As the best-selling author of "Strategic Business Influencer: Building a Brand with a Small Budget" she emphasizes the importance of starting early—well before your next book or major event—to consistently showcase your expertise and build trust at scale. We dive into actionable strategies like narrowing your social media presence to the most impactful platform and harnessing the true value of PR through intentional, targeted micro-media placements. Plus, Peter and Paige unpack why vanity metrics won't help your business, and why an interview on the right niche podcast can sometimes be worth far more than a big-name media hit. Tune in to learn how to strategically build thought leadership that grows your revenue, enhances your credibility, and sustainably supports your long-term business objectives. Three Key Takeaways: • Start Early, Not Later: Building effective thought leadership isn't about a one-time launch event; it's a consistent, ongoing practice. Start cultivating your brand now—well ahead of your next big milestone—to build trust, visibility, and credibility at scale. • Micro-Media Outperforms Vanity Metrics: Don't chase big audiences for the sake of numbers. A targeted podcast or niche publication with the right listeners can deliver far greater business impact than generic exposure. • Your Personal Brand Matters Most: Clients Google people, not logos. Invest in clearly showcasing your personal expertise online to accelerate trust, strengthen relationships, and differentiate yourself from competitors. Looking to enhance your personal brand and build authentic relationships in the digital space? Our conversation with Paige Velasquez Budde emphasized the power of strategic PR and personal branding.
