I haven't been to an atheist conference for years although there is the upcoming American Atheist conference in Atlanta next April. Funnily enough if that's a word, I have a holiday for Good Friday and I can think of nothing better than using that time off to hang out with fellow heathens. Reggie Beloved raised money to help people in Haiti so when he told me he was going to the Faithless Forum I had to listen. I checked out the GCRR conference on Jesus historicity and reached out to the founder. Dr. Darren Slade was a believer, a minister, and a police officer before becoming an atheist. He's the President and CEO of the Global Center for Religious Research. This group does conferences (virtual even before Covid), publishes papers and books. He's the founding editor of the socio-historical examination of religion and ministry (SHERM). He's the research director for The FaithX Project which consults for churches and tries to help foster community. And of course he is an adjunct professor of humanities at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. So we talked about all that, coming out, not getting rich in a prosperity gospel church and how to talk churches into shutting down. This is a very 101 interview as this guy has so much going on that we barely scratched the surface. After another long absence, Kory returns to the show. We talk about our ReasonCon meet cute, the ups and downs of the atheist community and her relationship with Chris Mailey. Robert Stanley comes back! We talked about his thoughts behind starting a podcast and how he's still motivated to do it. We discussed some of his episodes like the debate on systemic racism, a debate on evolution, the problem of evil, and the atheist who turned Muslim. We also had a short “spirited” debate on left versus right wing violence due to protests. I still don't know if I could do a debate, and whether I'd get anything out of it. Another episode of The Triple Po is upon us, so rejoice oh listeners and watchers! This week Lyman was late again, but not as late as usual, and also we had friend of the show and the beer god himself, Zach from Zachrilege Cast. I tried to put a little structure into the show, and I will try to to do so going forward, because at least it's a little more bearable when you hear the privileged ramblings of some White dudes. First we talk about the Boulder shootings, and that insufferable gun nut Lauren Boebert's ‘thoughts and prayers' bullshit in response, as well as the ensuing mockery and disbelief among sane folks who are probably not surprised, yet still constantly disgusted by her inane ramblings. Next we speak about the Amazon employees' upcoming unionization vote, and the kind of lengths Amazon will go in order that it not happen. We also talk about Amazon's horrid working conditions and relatively low pay for the area, which of course is the reason they are trying to unionize in the first place! Last, but certainly not least, is the passage in my glorious state of Tennessee of the anti-trans athlete bill, which would require athletes to compete with the gender that is on their birth certificate. Of course this is only a spate of bills that the state legislatures controlled by the GOP are trying to pass. They say it's for the children, but we know it's just yet another hate bill against the LGBT community. Tough topics to be sure, but we still try to engage the stories with what humor we can. Thanks y'all for tuning in.

It’s nice to catch up after 2.5 years. Is the Embrace the Void host still feeling voidy? Very much so. We talked about his “new” podcast Philosophers in Space and talked about his episode 150 of EtV talking about the odd connection between skeptics and the Sovereign Nation right-wing Christian organization. Did she walk out of the ashes of her own podcast? Don’t bet against Jen. She started a new thing, The Atheist Wine Down, and it’s chock full of the kinds of rants, interviews and community building that her brand. We talked Game of Thrones (duh), the atheist community (yeah, we had to go there) and working with polytheists. When your cat gets zapped by God through the Internet, what do you do? Obviously you start a youtube channel. Vadim’s been at it for almost nine years, and this “season” will be the finale of Creationist Cat. He does promise that CC will be part of his youtube presence going forward. Over the years as the atheist community did what the atheist community did, his focus moved away from religion and turned to the alarming alt-right/antifeminist/anti-SJW trend that made most people run screaming from the platform. Vadim’s videos are smart, hilarious and his editing skills are top notch. We talked about his start on youtube, why he’s moved away from atheist content, his appearance at 2018’s Mythicist Milwaukee conference, and being called a whiny little fungus on Twitter. It’s not the gritty reboot of Steve Shives, it’s just him. We did a little (a lot) of Hamilton talk, including the problematic parts. I didn’t ask him about his podcasts on the first go-round so we talked about Late Seating and Ensign’s Log, both available at the links below. Then we talked about Hamilton, a bit about cancel culture and we saved the red shirt for Steve Shives 3.0. I rented goats. It's not quite fiddling while Rome burns. It's much cuter. Why does one rent goats? What is it like to have 30 goats living in your yard for five days? Do I almost die from exposure to cuteness? Can you name the goats? After the JK Rowling blog posts and doubling down on some of the most common anti-trans arguments from a TERF point of view (and nicely re-acronymed FART by my guest), I had to get Amy back on to talk about her thoughts on the arguments which were lapped up by a lot of skeptics. We covered that nicely, had a little side trip to talk about Sponge Bob being gay or asexual, Trump's dumping of another Obama-era protection for gay and trans people then the Supreme Court being surprisingly human for once. There's no other subject matter worth talking about at the moment other than the protests going on across the nation. I had Chris Watson from the Postmodern Polymath Podcast to discuss his experience at a protest in downtown Nashville, the concept of the end of policing, and the little stunt with our President, a church, a Bible and just a little tear gas thrown in. Lex left the Mormon church after being involved in it for her entire life. Once she discovered the truth about the church, its founding and the racism/sexism of the founders she left. Then she was told not to talk about it. So she went to her minivan and talked about it. She’s a year into her youtube channel and you’ll get well researched personal stories about the church and its history. We talked about taking down one’s life and replacing it. Imagine you are in Hickory, North Carolina, circa 2017. You’re young and innocent and want to meet all the cool podcasters and cooler followers of the podcasters. You’re in the right place. Now say you didn’t make it and feel like you missed out. This hangout will catch you up on the highs and lows and what’s transpired in the past three years with the former hosts of Bar Room Atheist (Bill and Suzy), No Religion Required (Bobby and Ashley).
