As a founder, you are likely to fall in hopelessly in love with what you have created as a solution. This is a good thing. What is even better is when you are able to demonstrate to investors that the solution you have on offer is something that will delight your customers. Investors are thrilled when you are able to show them that you have developed early and basic versions of your product that have allowed for you to collect critical feedback that helps you improve your product.  Sarah Dusek is the co-founder of Enygma Ventures. Sarah has built valuable businesses and is now an investor - it would be a very good idea to listen to her carefully. She provides clarity and and sage advice on how founders should prioritise their product when it comes to looking for funding. What she says may just surprise you - and bring some relief. About Let's Get Funded Branson Centre has partnered with the UK SA Tech Hub, an initiative of the UK Government, to create our on-demand series ‘Let's Get Funded', for founders looking to get funded. We connected with South Africa's most experienced and inspiring female finance professionals to discuss investor readiness. Let's Get Funded challenges traditional financial and investment content norms with a conversational 9-part series of on-demand content.

What do we do when making space for ourselves and others creates a massive shift in our belief system? How can we hold onto our belonging and identity when everything feels like it has shifted? I am grateful to Colby Martin the author of “the Shift” and for this conversation about shifting in your beliefs, and finding hope in helping others in the midst of their own shift. Colby was willing to hop on Making Spaces with literally zero preparation and we had an incredible conversation about making space.  Colby wears many hats (which I can appreciate)- he is the cofounder of Sojourn Grace Collective in San Diego, and he cohosts his own podcast “The Kate and Colby Show.” He also helps to resource progressive Christian communities across the US through Launchpad partners, and as if that isn't enough he also has written two books "Unclobber- Rethinking our Misuse of the Bible on Homosexuality" and recently “The Shift- Surviving and Thriving after Moving from Conservative to Progressive Christianity." I hope this conversation is helpful and inspiring whether you are in season of needing a space or making a space for people shifting in their belief system. I don’t know about you, but I think we all have those friends who make us believe the things we thought were out of reach or impossible are completely attainable, Dana Bakich is one of those people for me. Maybe it's because I have watched the musical Hamilton every day since it came out, but I think the world needs more people like Dana. People who see the unimaginable and are willing to figure out how to create it. She has a "not yet" mentality that makes you believe that you could create anything.  Dana is the founder of "Positive Equation"- a digital consultant for nonprofits, she also has worked on shows like American Idol and in marketing for large marketing firms. All of these different work environments has led her to her second business and passion, HerDesk. A sustainable and functional desk made by and for female entrepreneurs. It has been incredible to watch Dana dream and execute on that dream. Friends today on the podcast I am delighted to share with you my friend Drew Brow. Drew is an artist, advocate, pastor, poet, songwriter storyteller. As a musician he has played everywhere from large festival stages, churches, concert halls, pubs, and holding house concerts across the country. Drew lives just outside of Toronto, Canada, and engages/encourages people to think about antiracism and how to live out justice & an “open table"-minded presence in their own local neighborhood context. Whether it's spending time with people workshopping ideas around social justice and community connectedness or producing songs and albums for bands and artists – he's driven to reach people through the creative arts. Making Space for community, wonder and gratitude through music and story. Our conversation circled around the active nature of peace making. I am really inspired by Drew and the work that he is doing. I hope that you find the conversation helpful as we do the work of making space and engaging in Anti-racism.  Episode Information Introduction Music “it can be done” by Airae via epidemic sound. There is no denying that 2020 has been the year of disruption- some much needed disruption. As systems of privilege are being called out through the work of Black Lives Matter and Covid 19 is teaching us that our health is tied to each other we are rethinking what community looks like and what leadership in that reality looking like. Something new is being born but we are in the liminal space- the question has become how do you make space for what could be while caring for what is? This week I am excited to share with you my conversation with Dave Harder and Bryce Dymond two people asking that very question. Dave and Bryce help run a company called “parish properties” which defines its work as driven by concern for the environment, focused on the spiritual health of the community, financial sustainability, and social impact. They help churches think through how to develop their space in a way that is sustainable not just for church community but for the neighborhood they inhabit- this conversation could not be more timely as the idea of gentrification and colonization is rightfully at the forefront of conversation.  Check Out More about Parish Properties https://www.parish.properties/ To see Images from this episode check out our Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrUKVyg6w4foRai_XsQmKbA/ Episode Information  Introduction Music “it can be done” by Airae via epidemic sound. Her goal is to make spaces where everyone belongs, and is involved in shaping the future of their own neighborhoods. She facilitates conversations on systematic change, community development, immigration reform, equity, and coalition-building in neighborhoods and government agencies throughout California. We live in a time that is very polarized and differing opinions seem to be suspect. We need to figure out a way forward, but it seems hard to do if we can't even have a conversation, and we debate only happens from behind computer screens. There are people trying to create spaces where differing opinions are not only welcome, but encouraged, and met with curiosity. Pete Enns and Jared Byas are two of these wonderful humans. They are hosts of the podcast “The Bible for Normal People.”  Pete a professor of Biblical Studies, and Jared a former pastor, professor, and entrepreneur have a depth of academic knowledge that most of us only dream about (ok I only dream about, but I am a nerd.) Even with all that academic knowledge and experience, they are able to take the very complex and explain it in approachable ways. Believe it or not people don’t think about the bible in the same way… ok maybe everyone knew that. They make space for people to sit in the tension of differing beliefs in a way that I find inspiring. This conversation was challenging and helpful as we try and navigate vast differences in thought and interpretation. If you haven’t heard their podcast I highly recommend it- even if you aren’t someone who would normally listen to a podcast with the word bible in the name.
