Worldliness can be defined as being a "cultured person of the world". On the other hand, for the Christian, worldliness means becoming closer to the world than God. This begs the question as to "What is the cause of worldliness?" Using the Book of James, we are going answer that question! Please help support us by simply SUBSCRIBING and LIKING this episode., This will help us spread the good Word and costs nothing to do. Intelligent design is the theory that life and the universe were created by an intelligent entity, rather than arising by chance or through undirected processes as per the theory of evolution. It suggests that certain features of the universe and living organisms are best explained by an intelligent cause/deity. Christianity, through the Bible, tells us that the created world reveals to us the nature/attributes of God the creator. “Since the world's creation, God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Rom. 1:20 It is interesting that Paul includes the truth that humans are without excuse when they claim that God does not exist. The theory of evolution has been advanced as proof of God’s non-existence, which is then used as an excuse to live Godless lives. In other words, if God exists, humans must come to terms with His supreme position as the creator of all that exists. Further, He should be worshiped as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The theory of evolution is very handy for those of us who demand to live a life without concern for God’s will for us.

Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

"Godless with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6. Wow, often our brains and hearts have a list of things we "want" in our life. Things or people that we think would make us happy, but God says to be content. If you are not content with what you have, then how can you be content with what you don't have?

Jordan team back up for a chilling Vampire musical epic! Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau sink their teeth into one of 2025's most anticipated and chilling cinematic offerings: Sinners! Written & directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther), Sinners reunites the filmmaker with longtime collaborator Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, Black Panther, Without Remorse) in a brooding, slow-burn supernatural thriller about faith, guilt, and the secrets we bury to survive. Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye, The Edge of Seventeen, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) brings layered vulnerability to her role opposite Jordan, while Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods, The Harder They Fall, Malcolm X) commands the screen as a fire-and-brimstone preacher with dark motivations. The supporting cast is just as stacked, with Jack O'Connell (Unbroken, Godless) delivering a gripping turn, and Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country, Loki) stealing scenes as a mysterious figure tied to a string of brutal disappearances. You should all know by now that I am huge sucker for possession/exorcism films that are based on true stories or inspired by true events. When I found out about this movie on Tubi, I had to sit down and give it my full, undivided attention and I am glad that I did. Talking to Georgia about the lead female role of Lara, I got to pick her brain and gain more insight about her character, the movie, and the story behind it. I mean, she delivered with an exceptional performance! If you get the opportunity to watch this movie, and I hope that you do, you may find it disturbing… Depending on how well you can handle that kind of performance. I found this movie to be very on point with the fine line between mental health instability and actual possession. I will leave that up to you to decide. However, Georgia believes that her character suffered from mental illness, and it was just simply that. If you're not into the religious aspects of the possessions, then maybe you want to keep looking for another movie to watch.Overall, magnificent performance from Georgia and the rest of the cast. The movie had me guessing and on the edge of my seat – that is what I exactly expect a horror movie to do, and this one is definitely going to wind up on my favorites list.

“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like” [Luke 6:47] There follows the story of a man carefully building a house and digging deep and finding a rock on which to base foundations. So when all was complete “a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it because it had been well built” [Luke 6:48]Now this parable begins with Jesus saying, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, lord and not do the things that I tell you?” [Luke 6:46]. We all need to ask ourselves – what do the teachings of Jesus really mean to me? Do I live in a way that shows I believe in them?We are being buffeted by the storms of Godless human behaviour as never before, it is becoming a tsunami of Godlessness. But look at the difference between the natural and the spiritual. We are frightened by violent weather. But when it comes to a flood of immoral behaviour, many seem to welcome it, and, maybe more deadly still, many enjoy indulging in splashing in the shallows, ignoring the awesome flood of God's judgments that is promised.Ancient Israel fooled themselves thinking; well God is in our midst, we go to the Temple to worship, “we lean on the Lord” – but the prophet Micah said to them, you “detest justice and make crooked all that is straight” [Micah 5:9] yet you then “lean on the LORD and say, ‘is not the LORD in the midst of us ? No disaster shall come upon us.' Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a field; and Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins …” [Micah 5:11,12]The spiritual failure in which they fooled themselves that the Lord was with them led to the realisation, too late, that their personal spiritual house was not built upon a spiritual rock. History is set to repeat itself – the same call goes out now as is it did then! Note the message God sent through the prophet Zephaniah.“Seek the LORD all you humble of the land who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden in the day of the anger of the LORD.” [Zephaniah 2:3]
There is a day coming when God's anger will be turned away, and water will be drawn from the well of salvation. But God sees the arrogance of the Godless, and Babylon's judgement will be great. Theme From Sunday's Sermon: The Bible: God's Word as the Ultimate Authority On this edition of One Single Story, Pastors Stephen Mizell, Jay Rivenbark, and Alyssa Bream discuss the following questions: Yesterday's lesson was about the importance of listening to God through His word. Again today, I noticed we are looking at a Psalm that opens up with a commandment to “listen." What does that mean? How can we use music or a musical instrument to solve a riddle? What is the difference between the style of music and the message of music? Style can be deceptive. Music can be both beautiful and teach Godless lies. A prime example is the well known song “Imagine,” written by John Lennon. What do you think about these lyrics? The reading for the day is: Numbers 6:1–7:89 Mark 12:38–13:13 Psalm 49:1-20 Proverbs 10:27-28

For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. [2] Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. [3] For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, [4] for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. [5] Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. [6] For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. We serve a God of justice and righteousness. He has commanded us to uphold both in the public square. We have to be careful not to turn justice into poison and righteousness into bitterness by pursuing our own agendas rather than God's.

We all have probably had the experience of suddenly seeing another side of friend's character that we did not know existed. We then wonder who they really are! Hopefully these are good things we see, but sadly, that is not always the case. Now consider the experience of the disciples of Jesus, our heading is the question they asked themselves at a time when they had been “filled with great fear” and as a result had said, “Who then is this, that even wind and see obey him?” [Mark 4 v.41] We have already read in Mark of Jesus doing many marvellous healings; a paralysed man, a leper, a man with a withered hand, &c, so that “his fame spread everywhere” [1 v.28]: yet when he stills the storm and “the wind ceased and there was a great calm” [4 v.39] they then asked each other “Who then is this?”Most of them were fishermen and this miracle occurred in an environment with which they were very familiar. Surely they had learnt when there was a risk of violent weather and would not venture out in their boats. Matthew, Mark and Luke all record this dramatic event, it was etched in their memory. It is described as “a great windstorm” and the “waves were breaking into the boat.” As Jesus dramatically stills the storm, he asks, “Have you still no faith?” [v.40] Compare this with what we read today in Exodus 16, there is a challenging parallel! The nation of Israel had witnessed miracles, the plagues, walking through the sea on dry land and the destruction of the Egyptians armies at the hands of their all-powerful God – the one whose name/reputation was being established by these events. As they “grumbled against Moses” because of the lack of food [v.2] Moses could have said, “Have you still no faith?”We have commented several times that in this 21st Century we are travelled through a sinful Godless wilderness. Storms of God's judgements are starting to break out on this world; they are going to get worse. We all need to get to more fully know our Lord and Master and an even fuller prayer life, couple with our daily reading of God's word – leading to such a measure of faith that makes us certain Jesus is in control whatever may come on this earth and into our lives. Meditate on James 1 v.5-8
During the time of Daniel the prophet, ancient Babylon was a depraved and godless culture. Not all that much different from our own. Sad words, but true words. America is becoming more godless by the day, more opposed to Jesus and His followers than ever before. How do we stand strong in the face of such great opposition? Answers come your way next, as Ron continues his teaching series, “Standing Strong,” based on Daniel 1-6.
Daily Dose of Hope February 5, 2025 Day 4 of Week 45 Scripture: Ezekiel 40-42; John 14 Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the New Hope daily Bible reading. It's Recharge day so I hope we see you tonight at 6:30pm in the Garage. Our Old Testament reading is Ezekiel 40-42. Here, we begin to see how God's presence is about to return to his temple. We find Ezekiel being given a tour (in a vision of course) of a new temple. It's a majestic temple as well, bigger than the one built by King Solomon. Is this the way the temple will look in the new Jerusalem when Jesus returns? Some people say yes. In fact, some people would say these chapters offer blueprints of sorts. But most people believe that we have a tremendous amount of symbolism here, as we do in the book of Ezekiel as a whole. Yes, God's presence will be with his people. It will be amazing and majestic. But we don't really have the words to articulate what that will be like. Our New Testament reading is John 14. Let's focus on the first portion on the chapter. This is such a great interaction between Jesus and Thomas. The disciples are experiencing a lot of anxiety. Jesus has just told them he's going away but he is trying to reassure them. Jesus is like, I'm on my way to get your room ready. I'll be coming back to get you, trust me. But anyway, you already know the way. And Thomas is like, “Umm…actually, I don't know the way, is there a map or something?” And that's when Jesus says, “You do know the way because I am the way. The only way to get to my Father is through me.” And he reiterated what he has been teaching them, to know Jesus is to know the Father. If you have seen Jesus, then you have seen the Father. When Jesus says, “I am the way,” he doesn't say “I am a way.” How the Greek sentence is constructed makes it absolutely clear and irrefutable that Jesus is making an exclusive claim here. He is basically saying, don't go looking to anyone else to point you in those directions, because I am the only one who can!” Well, that feels pretty exclusive, doesn't it? Yes, it is. And exclusivity makes a lot of us feel uncomfortable. So, let's dig deeper. What other Scriptures point to the exclusivity of Jesus? 1. John 3:16-18 (Jesus speaking to Nicodemus), For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 2. John 3:36 (later in the conversation)- Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them. 3. Acts 4:12 (Peter, speaking before the Jewish ruling council) – Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” 4. Rom. 10:9 – If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 5. I John 5:12 - Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. And there are many others but I'm going to stop there for now. I do believe in looking at the full narrative of Scripture – if we look at all of the Bible – it points to Jesus as the way to heaven. I've searched to see if the Bible allows for other options, possible openings, that might allow for another way and I haven't found any. There are some things in the Bible in which there is tension – it says this but it also says this – and we have to really dig and pray and interpret. But there isn't tension here at all --- Scripture clearly points to Jesus as the Son of God, the fulfillment of God's promise from Gen to Rev, and the only way to the Father, the only way to receive salvation, the only way to heaven. And that makes logical sense to me. Why would Jesus have voluntarily died on a Roman cross for us if he was just one option among many to provide a way to be saved? If there were other ways to receive salvation and get to God, then why would Jesus even need to do all that? Why would Christians throughout the ages have needed to stand their ground and lose their lives? Why would Christians around the world today be risking their lives to follow Christ? Some may say they are disillusioned but I personally don't believe so. If we believe that Jesus rose from the dead, proving his divinity, proving he is Lord of all – then that means we have to also believe everything he said. We can't pick and choose. I'm not a scholar, you guys, but in my mind and heart, all of this points to the truth that Jesus is the only way. So, that being the case – then other questions come to mind. And here is where it often gets hard for us – more difficult questions. What about all of the people who don't believe in Jesus? If those who believe in Jesus have everlasting life, then what about those who don't believe in Jesus? Are they doomed to hell? How could a loving God allow this? What about those who may have heard of Jesus, but did not really understand who He was? What about those who have never even heard the name of Jesus? We have read Scripture already that speaks to those who reject Jesus face the wrath of God; those who don't have Jesus, don't have life. Those who don't profess faith in Jesus will not experience salvation. They won't spend eternity with God. Both the OT and the NT speak about a place called hell. The word most often translated as hell in the New Testament is the Greek word “gehenna.” Jesus uses this word 11 times. The literal translation of the word is the Valley of Hinnom (“ge”+“hinnom”). The Valley of Hinnom was Jerusalem's landfill where people burned their trash. So when Jesus speaks about burning in hell, he's using this image. Jesus' hell is a place devoid of hope and love, a place where God's will is absent, separate from the community. And Jesus, throughout the Gospels, does speak of people making choices that land them in hell. To deny the existence of hell is to deny the words of Jesus. Period. I've witnessed arguments about whether hell is a real place, whether hell is hot, whether it's cold, you name it. I think we could probably argue those things until we are blue in the face and it isn't productive. What we know: Hell is a Godless place. It is a place where God is not. What I know is that God dearly loves us, he dearly loves all people and he desires for all people to know him and have a relationship with him. But this is the thing, even though we were created to be near God, God does not force us or make us love him back or even force us to be near him. So hell exists because just as some choose to be with God, some will choose to be without God. I've had to kind of reconcile this for myself. God is not mean. God is incredibly loving. He does not send people to hell. He allows people to make the choice – a lifetime and eternity with God OR without God. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Do you believe this. Blessings, Pastor Vicki
How can you be in the world but not of it? Well, you've joined us at the perfect time because today Ron begins his teaching series, “Standing Strong" from the book of Daniel. As believers in Christ, we're called to be a light in an ever-darkening culture, to impact the world for Christ without conforming to the world's image. Finding out how to do that is what this series is all about.
