Tonight, on It's Real Talk Radio, we will be discussing the LGBT Community's attempt to cancel Dave Chappelle for his jokes on his latest Netflix stand-up comedy special, "The Closer." The Trans Community in particular has taken Dave's Trans jokes extremely offensive and have since been exercising all their resources to punish the legendary comedian. This isn't Dave's first clash with the LGBT Community, as he has cracked numerous jokes on multiple specials but "The Closer" hit different because he really came with heat! In response to "The Closer", hundreds of Netflix employees staged a walk out in support of the Trans Community, who was the butt of Dave's jokes for the special. The Trans Community has since been in an uproar, including the protest that followed the walkout of the Netflix employees, who are a representation of "Team Tran." Dave Chappelle has been under fire ever since while the Trans Community has continued to apply pressure, even going as far as demanding that Netflix pull "The Closer" from their platform, where the controversial special exclusively lies. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos had a tough dilemma. Stand in solidarity with the LGBT Community and pull Dave Chappelle's special "The Closer" from his platform or stand behind his #1 streaming comic and allow the special to stay. It was basically the LGBT Community vs Dave and Ted Sarandos chose Dave and as a result, "The Closer" remains on Netflix and the Trans community isn't happy about it. You can officially add Dave Chappelle to Cancel Culture's hit list. The Trans Community has since demanded that Dave meet with them to discuss the offensive jokes from his special and the impact of transphobia on the Trans Community, in which Dave responded in true Dave fashion. "I'll meet with you, but it will be on my time and a place of my choosing."

Gia Gunn, famed, outspoken Drag Race contestant steps Behind The Rope. Checking in from her home in WeHo, Gia is here to tell it all. We would expect nothing less from one of Drag Race's most outspoken contestants in the history of the show! Let us start at the beginning. Gia takes us back to the first time she did drag, what that was like, what prompted her to “try” and where her infamous name “Gia Gunn” comes from. Think Project Runway! Gia also opens up about the first time she became aware of her “trans identity” and what that was like to deal with at a young age. Flash forward to Season Six of RuPaul's Drag Race, Gia explains how she got involved with the Iconic hit TV show and why Season Six was the right time to participate. Gia discusses what it was like to film the show, the other Queens, the competitions and what it was like to “not be out” at the time. Flash forward to “All Stars Season Four”, Gia was back and ready to take the competition by storm. We discuss the differences this time in “All Stars”, the competition as well as the fact that Gia was an out Transgender Woman, or we should say Woman, participating in Drag Race. Of course, we address the fact that Gia's participation in this installment of “All Stars“ came mere months after RuPaul's comment that they would not cast an openly Transgender Contestant on the show. Gia explains how she felt by that statement and whether she thinks that impacted the decision to cast her (whether or not it was “stunt casting”). She also opens up about the rumored filmed but, ultimately, edited altercation with RuPaul on set during “All Stars” over this statement and whether her standing up to RuPaul led, in any way, to her elimination. She also opens up about the fact that the altercation was edited and whether the show is forever slanted to “make Ru look good at all costs”. Gia also chats about the recent change of RuPaul's famous opening catch phrase to be gender inclusive and the presence of contestant Gottmik, Drag race's first Trans Male Drag Queen. Gia chats about the whether RuPaul and Drag Race have come far in their Diversity and Inclusion Efforts, shares her thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner - they are not what you would think, and discusses shows like Pose answering the main question as to whether each has been a step forward for the Trans Community. Finally, Gia discusses current projects, the “Gia” brand, and the fact that it is beyond time for The Real Housewives to include a full time Trans Housewife. Yes, Gia is nominating herself. In true Gia Gunn fashion, NOTHING is off limits nor held back. @gia_gunn @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by O.R.G SKINCARE - https://www.orgskincare.com (Use Code VELVET for 15% Off Entire Purchase) Brought to you by ROTHY'S - https://www.rothys.com/velvet (Now For Men Too) Brought to you by NOOM - http://www.noom.com/VELVET (Sign Up for Your Trial Today)   Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Issues surrounding the Trans community have become a part of the mainstream media in recent years, and yet, for some reason, I've have a hard time talking about this subject. Maybe it's because I don't want to offend anyone?  But as a lawyer whose practice centers around fighting for the oppressed, including the LGBTIA community, I know my heart is in the right place.  So that is precisely why I feel so lucky to have Cadyn Cathers(PsyD) on Lawflip this month. There has been much talk about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, galvanised by the growing clout of social media. But how much of that translates for the transgender community? Recently, Karnataka became the first state government in India to reserve 1% of all government jobs for the transgender community. A significant move, considering that many transgender individuals, abandoned by their families and robbed of their dignity and livelihood, are forced to beg and/or become sexual workers to make ends meet.  It is to ensure a better socio-economic standing for trans people that Neelam Jain started Periferry, an organisation that works to skill and find employment solely for the trans community. And in the process, help corporates/startups diversify their workforce by supporting the LGBTQIA+ inclusion. Since its inception in 2017, Periferry has helped place over 190 trans people and upskilled over 300, and worked with companies such as Wipro, Accenture, HP, Goldman Sachs and others to sensitise their work culture. Aaron Kimberly (@Aaron_GDAC) is a long time mental health professional and transman. He has been advocating for evidence based trans health care, while Canada is implementing laws that ban people from exploring gender identities in any way other than affirmatively (casting this as "conversion therapy" and outlawing even talk therapy). A vocal advocate for Gender Identity, who has been working nationally and internationally, has decided to harass and bully Aaron for not toeing the line of an ideology that isn't based on facts, but rather internal feelings. I have Aaron on to discuss what he is really standing for and trying to teach people about. We also hear from Patricio Manuel, the first openly transgender boxer to compete professionally in the United States.ITT Staff Picks:“My friend was like, “Don't go off.” And I said, “Why not? I have to go off. I have to be a part of this.” It meant a lot and I was glad I was there,” said trans activist and icon Sylvia Rivera on the Stonewall Uprising in a 1989 interview with journalist Eric Marcus. Oliver Haug writes about activists' calls for the Biden Administration to end the detention of trans people in ICE detention centers in this piece for Them. With a big dream ahead and an expensive degree required to achieve it, Angelica Ross decided to enlist in the Navy to access the GI Bill that would help make her dream possible. Having to hide her true identity as a trans woman in boot camp, Angelica struggled with the reality that the country's freedom she was willing to fight for wasn't willing to fight for her own. But she was tired of hiding and having to prove her worth to a world that didn't value her authentic self, so Angelica set out to live her own truth. She channeled her inner toughness to prove them all wrong by empowering the trans community along her journey to success in an unexpected career path. From the ground up, Miss Ross came across unique opportunities that would enable her to learn advanced technology skills and eventually lead to launching a nonprofit business: TransTech Social. From CSS to HTML, she learned how to manage and build websites that propelled her portfolio to new heights — including tapping into prime acting gigs that boosted her personal brand. The blueprint of Angelica's self-built success was transferred to helping others in the trans community discover it's own talents in the tech industry and getting access to the tools to make it happen. As the founder of TransTech, Miss Angelica Ross has a one-of-a-kind testimony of resiliency that continues to inspire trans folks to make their way into the tech world. About TransTech Enterprises:Founded in 2014 by Actress, Founder, and CEO Angelica Ross, TransTech Social Enterprises is an incubator for LGBTQIA+ Talent from marginalized communities. Robbi knows all too well the pain of having her gender incorrectly identified, and the overwhelming sense of joy when it's (finally) corrected. But getting it corrected is no easy process, and opened Robbi's eyes up to the overwhelming amount of hurdles faced in the transition process. As she navigated her own transition journey, Robbi realized there wasn't much guidance for how to do it. Using her own experiences and to-do lists, she set out to create a resource for the trans community— an app called Euphoria. However, while people expected her to fail and made her feel unworthy of being an entrepreneur, Robbi's emotional pitch and putting her heart out there helped investors become awakened to the positive impact of her business. As Euphoria aims to empower the transgender community through every facet of their lives, it provides the support, education and dignity needed for all trans people, no matter where they live or which process they desire. And through it all, Robbi found unique connections that made her feel like the woman she is as she relentlessly pushes for a better future for the trans community.  Learn more about Robbi Katherine Anthony: https://www.euphoria.lgbt Learn more about GoDaddy: https://www.godaddy.com

Women-only spaces have been around for centuries. In various cultures and times in history, some forms or another of female seclusion have been accepted or even encouraged. Today we ask, are women-only spaces under attack? and is it sometimes ok to exclude in the name of inclusion? We speak with Sall Grover, founder and CEO of 'Giggle' - a female-only app, made by Women for Women. Giggle is a platform where women can connect with one another. Share their thoughts and opinions, search for accomodation, meet new people and more! Recently, the App has come under fire for its lack of inclusion of members in the Trans Community. As a "female-only" platform, Giggle permits Trans-Men on the app, but not Trans-Women, and uses biometric gender verification to do so. In this episode, we learn more about the creation of Giggle, the importance of having women-only spaces, and we discuss whether sometimes exclusion is ok. To find out more about Giggle, you can download the app on the App Store and GooglePlay. Have any questions about this episode, or want to get in touch? Natalia Smut was stabbed to death in a presumed domestic violence situation by her boyfriend on April 23rd. We had a quick chat with Natalia's sister Vanessa Singh, who spoke of her sister's one-of-a-kind drag performances, and vibrant personality. Natalia is at least the 17th trans person to be murdered already this year in the United States. At a rate of one per week so far, 2021 is shaping up to be the deadliest year ever for the trans community. This is completely unacceptable, and we can't sit idly by while it continues.  If you are cisgender, please continue to educate yourself so you can be a better ally, and check the links down below for how you can help support the trans community. We also dug deep into Colorado-based cult Love Has Won, after their leader's partially mummified remains was discovered in the group's co-living space in Crestone. What happened to Amy Carlson, and why her followers kept her adorned remains like a shrine for weeks, we aren't quite sure. What we can tell you is the basic tenets of Love Has Won's spiritual/conspiratorial foundation, and a little bit about Amy's rise to power as the group's "Mother God."
