Susan Hyde In 1978, the women's tennis team at California State University, Northridge was rocked by a grisly murder borne out of jealousy. Susan Hyde and her partner of several years, Janis Hasse, lived and worked together on campus, but Hasse's relationship with 21, Loni Andersen, carried on even though Hasse lived with Hyde. When Hyde was out of town, Hasse and Andersen would get together. Finally, Hasse ended the affair, and though Andersen seemed to move on, she was silently plotting and planning to get back together with Hasse, but it would all end in murder. Robert Evans In 1986, Robert Evans went missing until his body was found beaten, battered, and bruised. His killer would be a young man who had developed a penchant for cruising gay men and robbing them; in this case, a victim stood between him and what he wanted. The trial's ending might surprise you. Fred Pletka In 1977, the nude bodies of Robert Schmeckpeper and James King were found in their Sioux City trailer, setting off a case that would spiral into a brutal trial and a disturbing legal defense. Fred Pletka was eventually convicted, but the way the crime was framed says as much about the era's prejudice as it does about the murders themselves. The Black Cat On New Year's Eve 1966, undercover LAPD officers raided the Black Cat bar in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, triggering one of the earliest LGBTQ civil rights protests in U.S. history. There was another bar raided on the same night as the Black Cat, two patrons were arrested bring the total to 16. The protest against police violence across Los Angeles was one of the first protests where LGBTQ+ folks joined in common cause with members of the African American and Latino communities, also protesting violence at the hands of police. In 1983, Roy Radin, would-be impresario, joined forces with fading movie producer Robert Evans and Elaine "Laney" Jacobs, a woman with the burning ambition to use the millions she had made by drug dealing to buy her way into the movie industry. Together they planned to finance the movie Cotton Club. When Radin's body was found miles away from Los Angeles, the police had few clues and eventually had to put the investigation on hold. At the request of Radin's mother, New York Newsday's Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Steve Wick, began looking into Radin's last weeks and soon unearthed the sordid connection between deal making and drug dealing that set all Hollywood on its ear. Bad Company is both a fascinating and strangely repellent look at the darker side of the entertainment industry, as well as a striking portrait of the people who control the drug culture in this country.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Travelling - La 1ere

The power of positive thinking and cocaine! The Kid Stays in the Picture By: Robert Evans Published: 1994 432 Pages Briefly, what is this book about? This is the autobiography of Robert Evans. It jumps around a lot, but it's mostly built around his time as head of production for Paramount pictures from basically 1966-1974. Evans had basically zero experience, but by working himself nearly to death he produced such films as: The Godfather, Love Story, Chinatown, and Rosemary's Baby. In the process he saved the studio and became one of the most iconic figures of "New Hollywood".  Or to come at it from another angle, imagine Hollywood in its most wheeling and dealing, debauched, and drug-fueled state, that's what this book is about. What's the author's angle? Evans is an obvious narcissist, and it's clear that he has axes to grind, scores to settle, and crimes to explain. But he also has people to thank, stories to embellish, and insights to dispense. This is the author's book in a way that few books are. If Evans had any kind of editor, or even a lawyer look over this book I'm sure he told them to piss off far more often than he listened to them.  If you pick it up on audio, Evans did the reading which adds a whole other layer to his stories. Who should read this book? If you enjoy meeting that person at the party, the person who name drops like each name is a bomb and he's over Germany in 1945. The guy who tells one insane story after another, stories so insane you can't believe they're not exaggerated. But it's also possible that they've actually been toned down for legal reasons. If you enjoy outrageous raconteurs, then this is the book for you. Specific thoughts: What does success look like?

Are you ever going to text me?This episode contains surprisingly dramatic moments (not really).Jason, Jim, and Joseph list some of the best dramatic performances by actors known more for their comedic chops.Jason poses the philosophical question of whether a comedy can be so unfunny that it can be considered a drama.Jim brings back one of his favorite impressions, even though it's as dead as crabmeat.Joseph provides more misinformation about Oscar-winning performances.Have the guys discovered how similar the older Jerry Lewis, Clive Davis, and Robert Evans spoke?Sadly, what is a one-hour photo?

What happens when a Harvard dropout builds a global empire on the idea of connection... and then becomes one of the most emotionally disconnected figures in tech? This week, Amanda and Chelsea are joined by Robert Evans of Behind the Bastards (@bastardspod) to unpack the cult-like control of Mark Zuckerberg, the boy wonder turned code-powered control freak. From the chaos of Facemash to the calculated calm of Meta, we trace the evolution of Zuckerbergs's leadership style and how his obsession with efficiency, rating systems, and surveillance shaped one of the most influential companies in the world. We'll explore employee testimonies, bizarre office rituals, and the cognitive dissonance of a CEO preaching human connection while undermining it at every turn.
