Former President Donald Trump was found guilty in a civil case for sexually abusing E Jean Carroll, a magazine columnist, in a New York department store in the 1990s. However, he was found not liable for rape. The BBC's North America editor, Sarah Smith, told us more about what this meant for his presidential campaign, and the nature of the case itself. Today's Nick Robinson spoke to Gloria Allred - the attorney who is representing other women making allegations against Trump and a prominent conservative Charlie Gerow who is is Vice Chair of CPAC - the Conservative Political Action Conference - the country's oldest and biggest grass roots organisation.

I do not know what we do about the people in a society who deny any fact that does not serve them. Only once before was the nation faced with a third or more of its citizens believing in things that were did not true and did not exist, and that was before and during the Civil War.  It sounds like madness to ask WHEN we need to consider an Executive Order declaring a State of National Emergency about right-wing terrorism but look at Allen, Texas and imagine the dozens and hundreds and thousands of Mauricio Garcias out there, becoming literally connected to the Proud Boys and a just-slightly-more-evil version of CPAC or MAGA or another Trump front group and then ask yourself what other means EXIST for us to stop a pervasive nation-wide violent suicidal reality-denying cult that looks ahead to November 5th, 2024, and sees opportunity. For Republican presidential hopefuls, the Conservative Political Action Conference has played a very specific role in the election cycle. It's where candidates try to establish their grass-roots credibility and convince conservatives that those running are listening to what they want. The conference culminates in a closely-watched straw poll — an early indicator of the candidates who have momentum.This year is an unusual one. After the midterms, the big story was that CPAC had become a place for has-beens and losing ideas. And with Donald Trump in the race, few candidates wanted to come and publicly challenge him in front of his base.But after spending time inside the political establishment of both parties, Astead felt that this was still a must-see event. Ronny Jackson, Congressman, Admiral, and Doctor to Presidents joins Liberty & Justice with Matt Whitaker Season 2, episode 16.
