The Sacramento County Planning Commission meeting on June 8, 2026, focused on approving development projects in the Vineyard community, a new disguised wireless facility in Rio Linda, and a comprehensive, decade-in-the-making update to the county's zoning code.   Development and Land Use Approvals The Commission quickly approved two non-contested items in the Vineyard community: Morabi Singh Subdivision: A vesting map and rezone for a property at 9494 Florin Road. The project included minor condition revisions related to public utility easements with SMUD. The Chair noted the project's proximity to a future school site at Dawn and Brendan Natoli Park. Carly Mine Amendment: A use permit and reclamation plan amendment to allow mining on an additional 11 acres at 6875 Eagle's Nest Road. Both Vineyard items passed unanimously without public comment. AT&T Wireless Communication Facility The Commission approved a conditional use permit for a new wireless facility at 8040 16th Street in the Rio Linda/Elverta community. Design and Aesthetics: To address community concerns about aesthetics, the 55-foot cell tower is disguised as a water tank made of reinforced fiber plastic (RFP) to allow signal transparency. Coverage and Capacity: The tower fills a significant coverage gap and includes "FirstNet" capabilities for first responders. While the current design accommodates two carriers, staff noted that by right, the applicant could increase the height by up to 20 feet in the future to allow for more collocation. Public Feedback: While the local Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC) supported the project, some residents expressed concerns about the tower's proximity to their homes and its visual impact. 2023 Zoning Code Update A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to recommending a massive update to Chapters 1-7 of the Sacramento County Zoning Code. This update, the most substantial since 2015, includes 134 amendments based on a decade of stakeholder feedback.   Key Changes Include: Residential Improvements: Increasing the allowed height for accessory structures (like boat or RV storage) to 24 feet and modernizing "home occupation" rules to account for contemporary "side hustles." Business Streamlining: Reducing barriers for small tutoring/testing centers, permitting arcades by right, and renaming tattoo shops to "body art facilities" with lower hearing body requirements. Temporary Uses: Expanding allowances for food trucks on private property and allowing large shopping centers (15+ acres) to host temporary events for up to 30 days per year. Agricultural Support: Allowing commercial vehicle storage on agricultural sites of at least 20 acres to support farm operations. State Mandates: Implementing "express processing" for state and federal mandates (such as housing and ADU laws) to bypass lengthy CPAC reviews while still providing advanced public notice. Commissioners emphasized the need for balanced enforcement, particularly regarding mobile food vendors and home-based "microenterprise" kitchens, to ensure they do not unfairly disadvantage traditional brick-and-mortar restaurants.   Director's Report and Future Items Planning Director Todd Smith highlighted several upcoming high-profile items: Crowing Fowl Ordinance: Moving to the Board of Supervisors following collaborative meetings with the Hmong community. Upper Westside Specific Plan: Scheduled for a major Board hearing on June 16, 2026. Upcoming Appeals: Future agendas will include appeals regarding a temporary use permit denial and the Ezaron parcel map. The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.

While Orban's gang of Kremlin-paid criminals burn proof of their crimes, the new leadership in Hungary goes after their propaganda machine and GOP allies who used Hungarian taxpayer money to fund CPAC. Noam and Jen are not sure what is going on. We…think the war with Iran is still on? Does Trump know? Does anyone? It's all very up in the air, which is not great when you're talking about a hot war.  We do know that "Hungarian taxpayers" were funding all of the conferences that CPAC has been holding in Hungary all these years, thanks to Magyar and his anti-corruption tear. We also know certain people were also on the "Hungarian taxpayer" payroll, given their crashout now that the goulash train is stopping. Today's Headlines: Hungary's newly elected Prime Minister Peter Magyar revealed that Orban's government had been financing CPAC for years — and will no longer do so. JD Vance, meanwhile, told a Turning Point USA crowd that cutting Ukraine aid was one of the administration's top achievements, called Russia's invasion "haggling over a few square kilometers," and told reporters that the Pope should stick to theology and leave policy to politicians. The Pope is currently in Cameroon fighting corruption and attending peace talks. Meanwhile, the Iran ceasefire expires April 21st — less than five days away. U.S. officials claim they're "moving closer to a framework agreement," while Treasury Secretary Bessent previewed the backup plan: a "financial equivalent of a bombing campaign" on Iran through sanctions on countries doing business with Iranian-linked entities, including the UAE and China. In other news, LiveNation and Ticketmaster were found by a jury to be an illegal monopoly that engaged in anticompetitive conduct harming consumers, artists, and venues. Stock dropped 5%. Damages to be determined. The Swalwell scandal expanded to a second DA investigation, this time in Los Angeles, following Lonna Drewes' allegations. CNN published an investigation into a website with 62 million monthly visitors — more than Gmail — hosting tens of thousands of videos of men sharing advice on drugging and assaulting partners. RFK Jr.'s private journals revealed he once stopped on the highway to cut the penis off a dead raccoon to "study later." And finally, AllBirds is pivoting from shoes to AI infrastructure under the name NewBird AI and the founder of SantaCon was arrested for wire fraud after allegedly siphoning hundreds of thousands in charity donations into a personal slush fund for luxury vacations and fine dining. The Cook Political Report has shifted four Senate races toward Democrats, making a Democratic Senate majority a real possibility this fall. With seats in Maine, Ohio, Alaska, North Carolina, and Iowa now in play, the math is moving in Democrats' favor, and the stakes could not be higher when it comes to blocking Supreme Court picks and shutting down Trump's judicial appointments. Eric Swalwell is done. His accusers sat down with Nora O'Donnell on CBS Mornings in their first on-camera interview, detailing a years-long pattern of grooming, manipulation, and coercion targeting young staffers. Swalwell denied sexual assault but left nearly every other allegation unanswered, and he is now under criminal investigation in New York. Attorney Cheyenne Hunt helped these women connect and come forward, and more accusers continue to emerge. Trump was just 21, in college, and living with his parents in Queens the day the most legendary figure in football in the '60s retired as coach of The Green Bay Packers. More over, the first time he claimed he knew him was a decade ago, filled with details of witnessing Lombardi grab players by the shirt and not getting beat up because he was a winner. Where? How? He never explained. Of course he didn't. He probably saw it on television. So why does he believe he met Vince Lombardi? Because he DID meet Vince Lombardi. Only - not THAT Vince Lombardi. He met Vince Lombardi, JUNIOR, son of the legendary coach. Vince Lombardi Jr. was an executive in the United States Football League while Trump owned the New Jersey Generals of that league. Lombardi Jr. recounts meeting Trump (Trump was a jerk) in Jeff Pearlman's perfect book "Football For A Buck." By this standard, I ALSO KNEW VINCE LOMBARDI. The younger was a negotiator for the owners during the NFL Strike of 1982 that I covered for CNN. But in the 44 years since I met him I never conflated him with his father. THIS IS NOT THE LEAD STORY, it's just maddening. The lead? Trump and Hegseth and Rubio may be sending thousands of American troops into an ambush in Iran. Not that they care. The conservative publication “The Washington Post” reports Pentagon plans for thousands of Marines and other personnel conducting weeks of raids while Rubio insists it’s going so well, we’ll never need boots on the ground. But Trump and Hegseth and Rubio may be wildly exaggerating how EFFECTIVELY America has degraded Iran’s military capacities AND wildly underrating how effective Iran has been destroying American equipment – especially aircraft.The Pentagon said an AWACS – the giant command and control plane – was “damaged” while parked on an airfield in Saudi Arabia. Photos have leaked. The back half of the AWACs was blown off. Iran is successfully conducting a war designed to destroy our PLANES on the ground, and control or neutralize wherever American troops intend to land or be based. AND THE DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL doesn't know it is against federal law to send troops (or other "armed men") to a polling station during an election.
