Lenny McAllister has been in rooms most people never occupy at the same time — CPAC and the NAACP, Americans for Prosperity and the ACLU, Tea Party events and the Essence Music Festival. That's exactly the point. The Pittsburgh commentator, CNN and Fox analyst, and one of the earliest prominent Black Republicans to emerge after 2008 joins Newt to discuss his new memoir and policy manifesto, A Venn Diagram of One: An American Story. McAllister traces his journey from college dropout and 24-year-old father to national media figure — a transformation sparked by the night he learned his father had been shot. He argues that the path back to a united America runs through three pillars every citizen deserves: security, empowerment, and opportunity. On America's 250th birthday, he believes the country's best second act is still ahead.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Last week I walked some of Britain's oldest path, the Ridgeway, which runs across south central England. It's literally a ridge, and would once have been a vitally important path when the valleys on either side might have been impenetrable marsh or forest.I walked 56 miles in 4 days, starting in Avebury and ending in Goring.Lots of amazing views of Britain's brown and pleasant land. Red kites galore. And, early on Day 1, I even saw a brown hare, something I hadn't seen for many decades. At one point it sprinted (should say galloped?) through a field alongside and past me, quite the sight, but I was so busy admiring it I didn't get the video.Lots of barrows and burial grounds. Lovely peaceful places. I was particularly taken with Wayland's SmithyThe path was pretty deserted - I only passed somebody every hour or so. Sometimes I went several hours without seeing anyone, excluding cyclists of which there were a few, especially towards Goring. So lots of time to think, and one of the things I thought about at great length was what to do with my largest position, something I'll have more on soon. Gold stocks look, by the way, as though the summer consolidation is over, and are starting to pick up. Here's to another bonanza 12 months …. But back to the matter in hand. Each evening I would walk down off the Ridgeway to one of the villages in the valley, then climb back up the hill the following morning. Lots of lovely churches and thatched cottages to be seen. One of the many landmarks on the trip is the famous Uffington White Horse, carved into the downs some 3000 years ago in the late Bronze Age. With the underlying chalk, it is bright and white, and locals have maintained it all these years. It almost looks modern: minimalist and abstract with clean, stylized lines conveying sweeping movement. But as I walked the mile or two up the hill that sunny morning, several things struck me. First, that the White Horse isn't actually very visible from the valley below. If its creators wanted people in the valley to see it, surely they would have carved it into the side of the hill. But they didn't. They carved it right on the lip.nor is visible from the Ridgeway just above. In fact, it's not that visible from land at all and better seen from the air above. That immediately made me think of the Nazca Lines in Peru (see vid below), those ancient figures carved into a plateau which too best appreciated from the air.But that doesn't quite work either. If the Uffington figure was intended to be viewed from above, why not put it on the plateau? (You can't even see it from the Ridgeway itself) Why put it on the lip?3,000 years ago, much of the valley below would have been wooded or marshy, as I say, making the figure even harder to see from below. So who was supposed to see it? And from where? The final mystery of my day was this: is it actually a horse? Look at the head. Does that look like a horse to you?It has whiskers. TakeawaysFanchon Stinger shares how learning to hear a clear "no" from God, even when everyone around her said "run for office," kept her out of a season she now believes would have been disastrous. After becoming the target of media attacks meant to mischaracterize her, Fanchon walked through a four step process, cling, focus, fight, and share, that turned the experience into a testimony instead of bitterness.Fanchon and Amanda dig into why so many young women today say they lack joy and purpose, and why Fanchon believes the next generation needs a foundation of faith, not just confidence tactics.Summary of the EpisodeIn this episode of The Heart of Rural America, Amanda Radke welcomes back her dear friend Fanchon Stinger, a fifteen time Emmy winning broadcast journalist, TV personality, and founder and CEO of Grit and Grace Nation. Fanchon returns to the show fresh off a trip to Washington, D.C. with Amanda for CPAC's Inaugural Women's Warrior Summit, where the two sat together on the Ranchers Coalition and Amanda's daughter Scarlett got to tag along. The conversation traces Fanchon's path from broadcast journalism into an unexpected chapter of political consideration, and the hard lesson she learned about waiting on a clear answer from God before making a major life decision. She opens up about becoming a target of media mischaracterization, the four step process she now teaches for walking through disappointment without spiraling, and the PRAY framework, Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield, she leans on in moments of crisis. From there, Amanda and Fanchon turn to the next generation, talking through why so many young women describe themselves as joyless and directionless despite growing up with more access and opportunity than ever, and why Fanchon believes the fix starts with faith, not performance. The episode closes with Fanchon connecting her work at Grit and Grace Nation to the bigger picture: agriculture, rural communities, and the country itself are in what she calls a spiritual battle, and the way through it starts with a personal relationship with Christ, not politics alone.Presented by Bid on Beef | CK6 Consulting | CK6 Source | Real Tuff Livestock Equipment | Redmond RealSalt | Dirt Road Radio | All American Angus Beef | Radke Land & CattleUse code RADKE for $10 off your next All American Angus Beef order at www.BidOnBeef.comSave on Redmond Real Salt with code RADKE at https://shop.redmondagriculture.com/Check out Amanda's agricultural children's books here: https://amandaradke.com/collections/amandas-booksLearn more about Bulletproofing Your Direct-To-Consumer Beef Enterprise: https://amandaradke.com/products/bulletproof-your-beef-business

The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is a mainstay of the US political calendar, a barometer of the Republican party mood, and has become, in recent years, a pro-Trump event, with a big budget and crowds in the thousands. Its first outing to the United Kingdom last week brought less of the bombast, but much the same flavour of politics, as figures from across the hard right assembled for debates on topics including migration, race, British identity and cryptocurrency, under the slogan ‘Save Britain. Raising Expectations with Pastor Joe Schofield, Melba Schofield, Stefanie Thayer, Dr. Craig Thayer, Dr. Paul Hall, and Ron Greer Faith, Freedom, and the Fight for America The Raising Expectations team welcomes attorney, retired Army colonel, and author Kurt Schlichter for a wide-ranging discussion on faith, American leadership, cultural change, national security, education, civic responsibility, and the role Christians can play in shaping the nation's future. Friends, We are thrilled to have our longtime friend Kurt Schlichter back with us this Monday night, to share his wisdom and enthuse us all about our great nation! He is an outstanding author, political pungent, United States Army captain, teacher at the National War College in Washington D. C. and renown lawyer. He is a leading speaker on CPAC and highly respected for his ability to powerfully present the common sense and Judeo- Christian principals upon which we stand as a nation! His books are best sellers and “WE'LL BE BACK: the fall and rise of America” has made everyone think again as we watch America rise before our eyes with President Donald Trump and his incredible Cabinet! Boldness and appropriate transparency has aided in making us proud to be Americans once again! Kurt Schlichter has value driven conservative insights that are true and continue to inspire us as a nation! You won't want to miss the show so tell your friends and tune in and watch… Guest Spotlight Kurt Schlichter returns to Raising Expectations as a respected political commentator, attorney, retired U.S. Army colonel, and bestselling author known for combining military experience, legal insight, and cultural commentary. Throughout the conversation, Kurt discusses current events through the lenses of patriotism, faith, and public service while sharing perspectives drawn from his writing career, military background, and observations of American culture. Although the conversation covers numerous political topics, it repeatedly returns to the importance of personal responsibility, moral conviction, and active civic engagement. Faith, Freedom, and the State of the Nation Pastor Joe Schofield opens the program by reaffirming the show's commitment to faith in Jesus Christ, love for America, and confidence that God continues to work in the lives of those who trust Him. After introducing the panel and welcoming returning guest Kurt Schlichter, the conversation turns toward the current condition of the nation and the challenges facing American society. Kurt describes himself as optimistic about the country's future, arguing that many Americans have become dissatisfied with existing political and cultural institutions and are seeking meaningful change. The discussion establishes a hopeful yet candid tone as the panel explores leadership, public policy, and the responsibilities of citizenship from a Christian perspective. Leadership, Faith, and Public Service One of the conversation's earliest themes centers on political leadership and personal transformation. Kurt shares his view that President Donald Trump has pursued significant policy changes by challenging assumptions about what government can and cannot accomplish. Beyond politics, he also reflects on what he believes has been a noticeable change in Trump's personal faith following the assassination attempt against him, describing it as an example of how life-changing experiences can deepen spiritual awareness. The panel discusses the distinction between identifying with religion and developing an authentic relationship with God, emphasizing Bible reading, prayer, and continued spiritual growth over religious labels alone. Throughout the exchange, the speakers encourage listeners to pursue faith as a daily relationship rather than merely a public identity. Stories Shape Culture The discussion shifts toward Kurt's work as a novelist and his belief that culture is influenced not only through politics but also through storytelling. He introduces several of his books, including his upcoming novel American Warlord, and explains why he believes conservatives and Christians should actively create fiction, entertainment, and cultural works that reflect their values instead of simply criticizing existing media. Kurt argues that many ordinary Americans who work hard, raise families, practice their faith, and contribute positively to their communities are rarely represented in modern entertainment. For him, participating in culture is another way of preserving important values and broadening public conversation. Christians and Civic Responsibility The panel repeatedly returns to the role Christians play within American society. Pastor Joe expresses concern that many believers remain disengaged from public life or become informed only shortly before elections, while Kurt encourages greater participation in civic affairs. Rather than viewing political involvement as separate from faith, the speakers suggest that informed citizenship can become an extension of personal stewardship and responsibility. They discuss voting, public discourse, and the importance of remaining engaged in issues affecting local communities and the nation while seeking to act with integrity and conviction. Ideology, Media, and Competing Worldviews As the discussion broadens, Kurt shares his concerns about socialism, ideological movements, higher education, and parts of the modern media landscape. He argues that many people naturally seek purpose and meaning, and when religious faith is absent, they may replace it with political or cultural ideologies. The panel also discusses contemporary debates surrounding identity, entertainment, journalism, and public institutions, expressing concern that some voices discourage open dialogue or promote ideas they believe conflict with biblical values. Throughout these exchanges, the hosts frequently contrast cultural trends with what they view as enduring principles rooted in Christian faith and personal accountability. National Security and America's Place in the World Drawing upon his military experience, Kurt offers an extended discussion of American foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran, China, Russia, Ukraine, and broader geopolitical strategy. He explains how diplomatic, informational, military, and economic tools can work together to accomplish long-term strategic objectives, suggesting that effective leadership requires coordinating all four rather than relying solely upon military force. The panel also considers changing international alliances, energy policy, economic pressure, and global competition, viewing these developments through the broader lens of national security and America's future role on the world stage. Education, Skilled Trades, and the Dignity of Work Another major theme focuses on education and the changing value of higher learning. Kurt questions whether many universities continue to provide practical value, expressing concern about rising student debt, ideological influence, and the growing availability of alternative forms of learning. The panel discusses vocational education, skilled trades, apprenticeships, and technical careers, emphasizing that meaningful work should never be measured solely by academic credentials. Through stories about contractors, tradespeople, military service, and everyday professions, the conversation highlights the dignity of honest labor and the importance of respecting people for the quality of their work rather than their educational pedigree. Remembering the America That Built Community The discussion becomes more personal as Kurt reflects on his childhood in California, neighborhood friendships, books, television, family life, and the experiences that shaped previous generations. While acknowledging the benefits of technological advancement, including artificial intelligence, the panel also expresses concern that some aspects of community life, childhood independence, and shared cultural experiences have become more difficult to preserve. Rather than rejecting modern technology, the speakers encourage thoughtful use of new tools while continuing to cultivate strong families, meaningful relationships, and local communities. Standing for Truth with Courage As the conversation concludes, the panel returns to the role of Christians in an increasingly divided culture. Dr. Paul Hall expresses appreciation for Kurt's optimism and willingness to speak openly about difficult issues, while the hosts encourage believers to stand firmly for truth without fear or embarrassment. Pastor Ron Greer closes the program with a prayer asking for God's protection, wisdom, and continued guidance over Kurt, his family, and his work. The episode ends by reminding listeners that faith, courage, service, and hope remain essential qualities for those seeking to strengthen both their communities and their nation.

We review Blanche's three-year career as Trump's personal defense attorney before considering the questions the Senate Judiciary Committee should be asking to determine just who Blanche has been really working for in his time at DOJ so far. Then: the U.S. is hosting the world's biggest international sports event at a time when our immigration system has never been less hospitable, and even before the first World Cup kickoff Trump's CBP has been giving red cards to players, coaches, support staff, and fans who had  already been cleared by the refs at U.S. consulates abroad. Matt explains the immigration law logistics of international tournaments, and how this administration's harsh immigration policies are actively working against the system's efforts to make things easier for World Cup visitors. While Orban's gang of Kremlin-paid criminals burn proof of their crimes, the new leadership in Hungary goes after their propaganda machine and GOP allies who used Hungarian taxpayer money to fund CPAC. This is against U.S. law. If America had a real DOJ and functional Congress, all Republican officials would be investigated for being foreign agents of Hungary and therefore Russia.  "Foreign governments are barred from spending money in American elections, and Americans are forbidden from soliciting or accepting it," wrote Rep. Mike Levin on Twitter (we will never call it X). "If these allegations are true, this is a direct attack on the integrity of American democracy…The American people deserve to know exactly what flowed from Orban's government into this country's political ecosystem, who was on the receiving end, and what it bought." As Gaslit Nation has long warned, Orban's regime was funneling money and instructions from Russia to MAGA world. The RussiaGate transnational crime network never stopped. The crime spree continues and has only grown stronger. Today's Headlines: Hungary's newly elected Prime Minister Peter Magyar revealed that Orban's government had been financing CPAC for years — and will no longer do so. JD Vance, meanwhile, told a Turning Point USA crowd that cutting Ukraine aid was one of the administration's top achievements, called Russia's invasion "haggling over a few square kilometers," and told reporters that the Pope should stick to theology and leave policy to politicians. The Pope is currently in Cameroon fighting corruption and attending peace talks. Meanwhile, the Iran ceasefire expires April 21st — less than five days away. U.S. officials claim they're "moving closer to a framework agreement," while Treasury Secretary Bessent previewed the backup plan: a "financial equivalent of a bombing campaign" on Iran through sanctions on countries doing business with Iranian-linked entities, including the UAE and China. In other news, LiveNation and Ticketmaster were found by a jury to be an illegal monopoly that engaged in anticompetitive conduct harming consumers, artists, and venues. Stock dropped 5%. Damages to be determined. The Swalwell scandal expanded to a second DA investigation, this time in Los Angeles, following Lonna Drewes' allegations. CNN published an investigation into a website with 62 million monthly visitors — more than Gmail — hosting tens of thousands of videos of men sharing advice on drugging and assaulting partners. RFK Jr.'s private journals revealed he once stopped on the highway to cut the penis off a dead raccoon to "study later." And finally, AllBirds is pivoting from shoes to AI infrastructure under the name NewBird AI and the founder of SantaCon was arrested for wire fraud after allegedly siphoning hundreds of thousands in charity donations into a personal slush fund for luxury vacations and fine dining. This year's Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, lacks many of the big-name conservative stars typically in attendance, but there's still plenty of President Trump fandom. We discuss how some of the younger attendees at the event feel about the war in Iran. We also talk about the legacy of Robert Mueller, the former FBI director and special counsel who died last week. This episode: voting correspondent Miles Parks, justice correspondent Carrie Johnson, political reporter Elena Moore, and senior White House correspondent Tamara Keith. This podcast was produced by Casey Morell and Bria Suggs, and edited by Rachel Baye. Our executive producer is Muthoni Muturi.Listen to every episode of the NPR Politics Podcast sponsor-free, unlock access to bonus episodes with more from the NPR Politics team, and support public media when you sign up for The NPR Politics Podcast+ at plus.npr.org/politics.To manage podcast ad preferences, review the links below:See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy
