Vikings vs Panthers - CTP's: The Final Score

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 18, 2021 44:52

The Minnesota Vikings are 2-3 and have to win this game, right? They did. Dalvin Cook is back. Will he be explosive? 143 yards. I'd say so. Are the ankles healed enough? 140 rushing alone. Christian Darrisaw gets his first start. Will he see all the snaps? He did. How will he play? It was spectacular. Can we win the time of possession? The Carolina Panthers are #1 in the league in that category. The Vikings actually did. Did Justin Jefferson's and Adam Thielen's scare this week pass a message that they wanted the ball more? Absolutely! Over 200 yards between the two. Did the deep dive review of the offense and scripting of plays going into the 2nd half work? That's debatable. Will the defense finally stop a running game and hold it under 100 yards? No, 118 though. Will the beloved Purple win? In over-time! We'll have it all going live right before the final whistle. From fans in the stands to you at home or your favorite watering hole, Jayson, Matt, Flip and Dave joined by you will be here for your Vikings vs Lions reactions. 1) Highlights 2) Lowlights 3) Speed round and your questions 4) What's ahead The Final Score [the name for CTP's Postgame show] is ready for the season. The Minnesota Vikings are heading towards another must win game against the Carolina Panthers. They won fugly against the Detroit Lions last week in which some fans were routing for them to actually lose. Their thoughts is that it will speed up the “blow it all up” process. Mathematically however, the team can still have a successful season and will need one for Mike Zimmer and his staff, and possibly Rick Spielman and his to stay employed. The next step in that is to beat the Panthers on Sunday, but can they? Darren and Dave will take a look at how the two teams match up against each other. Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly start a winning streak, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! Talking points for the Lions-Vikings preview show:  1) Head to head rankings. 2) Team leaders. 3) Will Sam Darnold continue to turnover the football? 4) Can the Vikings run blocking get back on track, especially with Dalvin Cook slated to play?  5) Why isn't Adam Thielen getting the ball? 6) Will Christian Darrisaw start, or will the rotation continue? The Minnesota Vikings have now won their first game against the Seattle Seahawks in a packed US Bank Stadium. Will things get easier for them? Heck no! They will now face one of the team's favorite coaches who developed in Minnesota for 14 years, Kevin Stefanski, and his very, very good Cleveland Browns. Baker Mayfield is quite the capable quarterback and with weapons like Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Odell Beckham Jr and some complimentary players behind the 2nd ranked [by DVOA] offensive line, the Vikings defense will be tested once again. Mayfield may not be joystick-type mobile like the last 2 QBs the Vikes faced, but he can move and be dangerous. The defense will be tested. The Vikings' offense is no slouch either, and the combination of Kirk Cousins' outstanding play and Klint Kubiak getting more comfortable calling good and modern games, will have to continue in their growth and success for the Vikings to win. Can they? Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly start a winning streak, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norman pregame show! Talking points for the Browns-Vikings preview show:  1) Vikings' front seven has to slow down Browns' two-headed RB monster - Chubb and Hunt. Chips? 2) Vikings O-line needs to play competently against Browns front seven and have a game plan to block Myles Garrett.  3) Cousins needs to continue to play error-free football but also push the ball down the field and Kubiak needs to be less predictable when he calls for running plays and be less conservative in the red zone in the second half (we want TDs, not field goals). Kirk Cousins exuded leadership on the field that we had not seen from him in previous seasons. He had another outstanding performance along with the O-Line giving him protection like not seen in his time in Minnesota. JJ started off busy catching passes and Adam Thielen catching touchdowns. The Justin Jefferson Griddy was seen in front of live fans for the first time, and Alexander Mattison was an absolute force in place of Dalvin Cook. It was a good day! Speaking of leaning into a quarterback, the episode art was inspired by that from Kirk Cousins back to Fran Tarkenton. CTP Mondays - Kirktember & Vikings vs Seahawks

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 28, 2021 69:12

It is victory Monday and turning it purple will be a lot easier for Tyler and Deshawn. Your Minnesota Vikings, with some outstanding play from the offense, wring the necks of the Seattle Seahawks 30-17. Kirk Cousins played “the best game” per Mike Zimmer. It may not have been statistics-wise, it definitely showed on the leadership level and even taking off script plays and turning them into successes. The ball was spread around to multiple Vikings weapons. Alexander Mattison had a great day starting for an injured Dalvin Cook with a 170+ yard performance and over 100 on the ground. Justin Jefferson got to do the Griddy in front of fans for the first time. Adam Thielen is the definition of red zone clutch. The offensive line continued to improve as a unit. Greg Joseph was dead on on all 6 kicks. The offense and special teams were humming. The defense to a while to get going though. Bashaud Breeland was exposed again and again, but there were adjustments made during the game and at halftime and the D ended up shutting the Seahawks down. They even met the Mendoza line of holding Russell Wilson and his offense to 17 points. It was a good day. Join us for the conversation! Other talking points for tonight's show:  - Kirktember - Spreading the ball around - Klint is great  - Mike Zimmer's stubbornness is costing this team  - The field goal call to go up 13 - Offensive line Klint's biggest advantage - Kirk's best start to a season in his career  - Zimmer's elite defensive adjustments  - Edge 2 becoming a problem - Players of the week Fan with us!!! The Vikings are 0-2 going into today. Their backs are against the wall and the winning needs to start! They did just that. Mike Zimmer led his team out for the home opener. US Bank Stadium was loud and rocking'! The SKOL Chant rained down, and I wonder if we heard chants for Odin, like from the Purple of old? Kirk Cousins continued his good, down right outstanding, play. Did the defense feast? No, but they did make adjustments that kept Seattle from scoring in the second half. All this as the Minnesota Vikings faced off against the Seattle Seahawks. These games count, and we're live at the last whistle. Two Old Bloggers - Time to Win!

The Minnesota Vikings have now lost 2 games in a row by a total of 4 points. People say it was because of just two plays. Do you believe that? If you win on a lot more plays, these two aren't necessary. It is however for health of the Vikings' season that they grab victory against the Seattle Seahawks. This has been a team that has beaten Mike Zimmer's Vikings every time they have played. Will this game be any different? This will be the first time the Seahawks have taken on the Vikings at US Bank Stadium. The stadium, packed full of fans chanting Odin, and SKOL, will make a difference. They should have the Seahawks offensive linemen false starting. The Vikings defense which has yet to jell in two games, can now feed off the fans making noise, cheering, and down right amped up energy that flows within that glorious bowl and ETFE roof. Russell Wilson is getting older, but may be wiser and can still hurt you. He has two wide receivers in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett that the purple secondary will have to shut down. A hard task when Bashaud Breeland hasn't lived up to expectations. Will we see Cameron Dantzler eventually take over? The “Meaty Boys” on the defensive line should have a better day, but Wilson can still run. Can they contain him? Then can the Vikes' offense continue to cook? Kirk Cousins has been playing well and a legitimate WR3 has been found in KJ Osborn. Can the running game get going, and set up more play-action? Dalvin Cook is recovering from an ankle injury and hasn't practiced all week. We might see more of Alexander Mattison as a result. The big question though is can the Vikings get the win and beat the Seahawks? On list topics: 1) Chris Carson - who has averaged 4.6 yards per carry against us.  2) Russell Wilson and his career stats against the Vikings. 3) Conerbacks D.J. Reed and Tre Flowers. 4) What kind of performance will Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and KJ ‘Ozzy' Osborn need to have a day against those guys?  5) Vikings corners Bashaud Breeland, Patrick Peterson, and Mackensie Alexander expectations. If they don't play better Sunday it's going to be another frustrating day for us Viking fans because someone needs to cover DJ Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The start of the 2021 Minnesota Vikings season surely hasn't started as we'd like. Your Vikings we face Kyler Murray and the whole Arizona Cardinals team down in the desert. Murray is known for his ability to be mobile and destroy game plans making victory difficult. Sunday was no different as the Vikings fell to the red birds 33-34. The offense started hot and Kirk Cousins hit his first long ball to KJ Osborn for a 64-yard touchdown on the second play of the drive. The defense still looked discombobulated with moments of very good individual play by the likes of Danielle Hunter [3 sacks], Eric Kendricks, Xavier Woods, Michael Pierce, and Nick Vigil, but as a whole, there were communication issues, blown coverages, and again for the second week in a row, some poor tackling. This all resulted in giving up 501 yards and 34 points. Wasn't the defense supposed to be a strength this season? Then there was the bane of Vikings fans everywhere… Greg Joseph missed an extra point, hits two 52 yard field goals, only to miss a 37 yarder to win the game. And you wonder why we drink? LOL. Is there a disconnect in what Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman believe on how this football team should be built and then the utilization of those players? Is there a discontent starting to boil over in the fan base? Join us for the conversation! Join us for a conversation on your Minnesota Vikings. Some of your favorite Climbing The Pocket personalities gather together with you to talk about how the Minnesota Vikings. Is the roster basically set? Can the defense actually be good with all the old guys on it? Do we over-rate Andre Patterson because Danielle Hunter? Yes, he helped turn Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph into studs, but neither were his draft picks. Do you think he'll do the same with Michael Pierce and Dalvin Tomlinson? What about all those other Vikings drafted guys that are now “backups on other teams” as Mike Zimmer said? Then Nick will look at exceptions, good and disappointing. It is an odd year though, so we're good, right? Come join the conversation with the guys as they discuss the Vikings, these topics, and more. SKOL! On tonight's show… Let's discuss: The state of Vikings roster heading into week 1 Is the defense primed to be a top tier unit? Is Andre Patterson overrated? Why the #Vikings could exceed expectations this year: Blue-chip talent on both sides: Jefferson, Cook, Thielen; Smith, Kendricks, Hunter Much improved in trenches w/ Udoh's breakout, young OL development & all the DL signings Good scheme on offense & especially defense Why they might disappoint: Top-heavy roster means they need to stay healthy Built to run the ball & stop the run, but it's a passing league First-year OC/play caller Little continuity with so many new faces Special teams & pass protection still look below average Fan with us!!! Come join the @Climb_ThePocket Network's and @DailyNorman's "In The Huddle" show with host Jason Brown @brownjayson, Nick Olson @NickOlsonNFL, Eric Eager @PFF_Eric, Myles Gorham @MylesGorham85, and producer Dave @Luft_Krigare from the truck. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Subscribe to us here! - https://www.youtube.com/climbingthepocket Watch the show here: https://youtu.be/h_DZB6Wbr-4 Learn more about your ad choices. Let's turn your Monday Purple. Join Climbing The Pocket's and Daily Norseman's newest live show to get you talking on Mondays. This will make your Monday better as you join Tyler Forness and Deshawn Vaughan for the conversation of your Minnesota Vikings. Being a fan of this team has never been dull. Good or bad, it has always been frustrating but entertaining. CTP Mondays will give you a chance to vent, agree, disagree, share your thoughts, and help cheer on the Purple. The guys have a special guest, Mike Santagata from Sports Illustrated's All Bengals Fan Nation site and contributor to Locked on Bengals. He will be discussing his team and what we can look forward to seeing on Sunday when the Vikings travel to meet the Cincinnati Bengals in the first regular season game of 2021. He'll give us some insight on Joe Burrow, Jessie Bates, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon. DJ Reader, the big fella in the middle of the defensive line, along with Mike Hilton and Eli Apple at the corners. Trae Waynes is of course out again nursing another injury. Old friend Riley Reiff should see plenty of playing time against the rotation in front of him including Everson Griffen. It should be like a deja vu moment all over again. LOL. How do you think the teams will match up? Here's your chance to ask your Bengals questions and join in the conversation! Other talking points for tonight's show:  Provide a quick overview of the bengals preseason and depth chart. Matchup wins and losses for both teams. Is there one star and/or one sleeper who could decide the game (think this could allow us to spotlight some under the radar players)? Score & and bold predictions. Fan with us!!!
