The Packers get another home game, this time against the Vikings who have now beaten them twice straight. No Adam Thielen this time, no Danielle Hunter, and no Everson Griffen, but Minnesota still presents a challenging matchup. J.J. and Gil talk about how the Packers may defend Justin Jefferson and K.J. Osborn, but Dalvin Cook is a good test for the DL a week after the Browns backfield made the cheeseheads look like swiss cheese. The guys also talk about what this game means for the playoffs, not just in terms of seeding but how playing a tough offense that passes and runs with deadly efficiency might prepare the Packers for the tough road ahead. Think you can predict the score of Sunday's game? Send us your prediction on Twitter, email, or text to claim credit and get your name read on the show! On No Huddle Radio, hosts J.J. Lahey and Gil Martin give you in-depth analysis of what's happening with the Green Bay Packers. The Minnesota Vikings suffer another one-score loss to a team that they could have beat. The San Francisco 49ers proved to be too much controlling the ball and time on the clock, especially after a Kirk Cousins quasi-meltdown in the second half. Can the Detroit Lions replicate the same results? Jared Goff is playing a little better, but he has some no-names to throw to. The Kitties do have a decent run game though, and that could target a Vikes' weakness. With a depleted D-line, the part of the game that has suffered the most is defending the run game. The Vikings have some players that are in a questionable status as to whether they would play, like Patrick Peterson, Michael Pierce, and Dalvin Tomlinson. That doesn't include those we know are out like Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen. On the offensive side, Dalvin Cook will be out so most of the load will go to Alexander Mattison. He will be sharing time with Kene Nwangwu. That will be exciting to see. The unspoken concern comes down to Kirk Cousins. He turtled in the second half of last week's game and reverted back to Captain Checkdown. Will he continue poor play or become aggressive again? On the good side of things, Cousins is from Michigan and tends to destroy the Lions when he plays there. Will he Sunday? …And you wonder why we enjoy our beverages so much? Another round bartender! Matthew Coller opens the show with the "Opening Drive" talking about how the Minnesota Vikings' standard should not change because they have had adversity. Their offense has been healthy and Kirk Cousins is playing well, go win. Then he talks about matchups to watch between the 49ers and Vikings and gets together with Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus to talk about how the Vikings may have to consider a Kirk Cousins extension and whether Danielle Hunter should be given an extension with his recent injury issues. Another week, another bloody victory, another few star players added to the injury report or injured reserve for the Packers. Now the team will head to U.S. Bank Stadium to take on the only NFC North rival who's managed a win over the Matt LaFleur-led Pack so far. The Minnesota Vikings are fresh off a convincing win over a tough opponent and are relatively healthy, despite the loss of Danielle Hunter. Can the cheeseheads keep the victory train rolling? J.J. and Gil preview key matchups to keep an eye on, but they note that this game is more about the Packers' health and stamina than anything the Vikings can throw at them. Still, Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, and Dalvin Cook present a formidable offense that's putting up points, and the defense is winning at all three levels as well. On No Huddle Radio, hosts J.J. Lahey and Gil Martin give you in-depth analysis of what's happening with the Green Bay Packers. Get the latest news, injury updates and preview the next game with key matchups to look for and find out why we think the Pack will win or lose. ESPN's Courtney Cronin joins Matthew Coller to talk about the Minnesota Vikings' matchup with the Green Bay Packers. How does Mike Zimmer's defense match up with Aaron Rodgers? Why they have had some good battles along the way but Rodgers has often come out on top. Can the Vikings prevent Rodgers from throwing deep? How will they pressure him without Danielle Hunter? On the offensive side, it's become very clear who everyone's pointing the finger at for the lack of aggressiveness on offense. Will Justin Jefferson or Adam Thielen still have a big week? Or will a defense that can create pressure cause problems for the Vikings? Plus a pie chart explaining what happens if the Vikings beat Green Bay. This Vikings team appears headed toward another cold winter after news of Danielle Hunter's season-ending injury came after an inexcusable loss to Cooper Rush's Cowboys. Ben Goessling, Andrew Krammer, and Michael Rand discuss Mike Zimmer's challenge ahead, and uncharacteristic flaws they need to fix quickly.
Former Viking Jeremiah Sirles plays the "blame game" in which he attempts to separate the blame between GM Rick Spielman, head coach Mike Zimmer and quarterback Kirk Cousins for the Vikings' ugly 3-4 start to the season. Jeremiah is then forced to talk us into keeping one of the three long term and the Vikings still having a successful season. He breaks down what it's like inside a locker room for an underachieving team and talks about Danielle Hunter's injury and Patrick Mahomes looking human. Learn more about your ad choices.

On this installment of Tuesday Morning Nickelback, Vikings writer Andrew Krammer joins host Michael Rand for a film review of the Vikings' heartbreaking 34-33 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. The Vikings defense had a feast-or-famine type of day trying to contain Kyler Murray, with Danielle Hunter registering three sacks and Nick Vigil returning an interception for a touchdown but Murray throwing for 400 yards and putting up 34 points. What will the Vikings' approach tell us about how they might try to defend a similar QB, Russell Wilson, next week? 11:00: The Vikings are playing Whac-A-Mole with their problems through two weeks of the season. In Week 1, the offensive line was poor, but the kicking game was solid. In Week 2, it was the reverse. In the latest installment of My Least Favorite Team is My Favorite Team, Rand and Keith Richotte get into that idea and wonder what will be the next problem to emerge -- and how long Mike Zimmer can withstand losses, even close ones, before his tenure as head coach will come to an end. 27:00: Gophers football beat writer Randy Johnson joins the show for some brighter news. The Gophers rolled over Colorado 30-0 on Saturday, giving rise to the hope that this could be a special season after all. With Bowling Green offering a chance to fine-tune things before Big Ten play resumes, we'll learn even more about Minnesota soon.
The start of the 2021 Minnesota Vikings season surely hasn't started as we'd like. Your Vikings we face Kyler Murray and the whole Arizona Cardinals team down in the desert. Murray is known for his ability to be mobile and destroy game plans making victory difficult. Sunday was no different as the Vikings fell to the red birds 33-34. The offense started hot and Kirk Cousins hit his first long ball to KJ Osborn for a 64-yard touchdown on the second play of the drive. The defense still looked discombobulated with moments of very good individual play by the likes of Danielle Hunter [3 sacks], Eric Kendricks, Xavier Woods, Michael Pierce, and Nick Vigil, but as a whole, there were communication issues, blown coverages, and again for the second week in a row, some poor tackling. This all resulted in giving up 501 yards and 34 points. Wasn't the defense supposed to be a strength this season? Then there was the bane of Vikings fans everywhere… Greg Joseph missed an extra point, hits two 52 yard field goals, only to miss a 37 yarder to win the game. And you wonder why we drink? LOL. Is there a disconnect in what Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman believe on how this football team should be built and then the utilization of those players? Is there a discontent starting to boil over in the fan base? Join us for the conversation! Other talking points for tonight's show: Banner performance by the offensive line. Vikings' second-half offense. Does Klint Kubiak have a major inconsistency problem? Is Zimmer becoming a Scapegoat? Players of the game Fan with us!!! Defensive backs had a rough day at times - can Mike Zimmer coach them up in time to stop Kyler Murray and friends? Is the roster basically set? Can the defense actually be good with all the old guys on it? Do we over-rate Andre Patterson because Danielle Hunter? Yes, he helped turn Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph into studs, but neither were his draft picks. Do you think he'll do the same with Michael Pierce and Dalvin Tomlinson? What about all those other Vikings drafted guys that are now “backups on other teams” as Mike Zimmer said? Then Nick will look at exceptions, good and disappointing. Why the #Vikings could exceed expectations this year: Blue-chip talent on both sides: Jefferson, Cook, Thielen; Smith, Kendricks, Hunter Much improved in trenches w/ Udoh's breakout, young OL development & all the DL signings Good scheme on offense & especially defense Why they might disappoint: Top-heavy roster means they need to stay healthy Built to run the ball & stop the run, but it's a passing league First-year OC/play caller Little continuity with so many new faces Special teams & pass protection still look below average Fan with us!!! Darren and Dave are selecting 3 topics plus 1, coming out of the first week of the Minnesota Vikings training camp. Plus 1 Topic: The COVID protocols and how when Kellen Mond tests positive, it takes out 3 QBs including starter Kirk Cousins. Topic 1: KJ Osborn is getting some love from the coaches. After his rookie season where he was tried as a returner with disappointing results, he has focused on improving his wide receiver skills. It has been showing early and often so far in camp. Is it enough for him to capture the elusive WR3 position? The Vikes have Chad Beebe, Bisi Johnson [who left the field Friday with his knee in a brace] and new free agent Dede Westbrook. What about 5th rounder Ihmir Smith-Marsette? Will he surprise everyone? Can Osborn surprise everyone? Topic 2: What is with the Vikings under the Zimmer era always moving offensive linemen out of their drafted or natural position? We get that the more positions on the line makes a player more versatile especially when injuries start to hit, but does it do harm to a player's learning curve when they now have to try something new, learn the footwork, hand play, even the blocking assignments before they have learned to step up their play at their drafted position? Yes, you want players that can do this, but is the team actually harming its progress by doing it too early in a player's career. They draft a left tackle of the future and make him a right guard who now is at left guard, Ezra Cleveland. This season, Oli Udoh who was drafted 2019 as a tackle in the 6th round and was being groomed as a swing tackle, is now splitting first team reps with Dakota Dozier at right guard. Another tackle playing guard. A lot of college tackles become NFL guards, but it is looking like the OL might be 4 tackles and a center. That may be thinking outside of the box and work, or another disaster when the team was hoping to protect Kirk Cousins and open holes for Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison. …And after the disaster of having Dozier playing last season, drafting a multiple time All American right guard from Ohio State named Wyatt Davis, is Dakota still on the team much less the first team?! Again to the original question of are the Vikings doing more harm than good? Davis was seen snapping to Kellen Mond the other day. Coaches may have wondered if he could snap in an emergency or if Garret Bradbury needs yanked or gets hurt to get him on the field, or they are doing this position swap thing because that's what they do. Who knows? At least Mond got some extra snaps. Topic 3: Danielle Hunter is back from neck surgery. “It was just a tweak!” Mike Zimmer jokes about it now, but it turned out to be a herniated disk in the neck that required surgery. The Vikes have slowing integrated him into practice and he is now taking the majority of reps with the first time and looks even better than before. Will he stay healthy once the pads go on this week and hitting cracks up? Can he be as good or better than he was during the season when teams will be focusing on him? Let's hope so. Matthew Coller is joined by Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen to talk about the upcoming season. In the second half of the episode, Brandon Thorn of Trench Warfare breaks down his top 50 players in the trenches, where Danielle Hunter ranks and why the Vikings have a really tough schedule of defensive linemen to match up against.
