We're digging into the mailbag on this episode of The Athletic Football Show. This time around, Robert Mays and Derrik Klassen tackle questions on how a team made up entirely of rookies would fare in the NFL, how the original Antonio Brown/Raiders trade affected the league, what makes Justin Jefferson so special, and a whole lot more.Hosts: Robert Mays and Derrik KlassenWith: Michael BellerExecutive Producer: Michael BellerProducer: Michael BellerSubscribe to The Athletic Football Show...AppleSpotifyYouTubeFollow Robert on Bluesky: @robertmays.bsky.socialFollow Derrik on Bluesky: @qbklass.bsky.socialFollow Beller on Bluesky: @mbeller.bsky.socialFollow Robert on X: @robertmaysFollow Derrik on X: @QBKlassTheme song: HauntedWritten by Dylan Slocum, Trevor Dietrich, Ruben Duarte, Kyle McAulay, and Meredith VanWoert / Performed by Spanish Love SongsCourtesy of Pure Noise / By arrangement with Bank Robber Music, LLC Hosted on Acast. On today's episode of The Right Time, Elle Duncan of ESPN joins Bomani Jones to discuss The New York Knicks' collapse and the ongoing WNBA drama. The show starts with Elle describing the events she witnessed at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night by saying why she won't make fun of Knicks fans (3:14) and that every A-lister was at this game (4:35). Bo explains why he wished the Knicks won the game in overtime (5:53) and loves that Tyrese Haliburton has become a villain in New York (12:12). They switch gears to the WNBA where Bo and Elle agree that it's ok for Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark to not like each other (15:49) and that this discourse prevents the league from making any positive strides (21:34). Bo states that Caitlin Clark is a Tiger Woods-like phenomenon but the WNBA is not capitalizing on it (24:39). They transition to the news that flag football will now be an Olympic sport in 2028 (36:58), which has Bo and Elle questioning if we're really going to see Justin Jefferson vs Team Japan (40:10)? To wrap up the show, Bo and Elle have fun discussing the time she covered the Atlanta Hawks. (48:05) . . . Grading your dynasty fantasy football trades from last week—did you win or lose?
“Last words I ever told him was I love him and keep fighting. So that's what I'm gonna live by from now on, just keep fighting, keep going no matter the circumstance but just keep on going.” Jack Bech We try to find the right words to capture the impact and emotion of this episode, but this is one, that when you listen to it, you'll understand how rare and special of a human Jack Bech is and why any NFL team who drafts him, will instantly be better for it. Whether you're an athlete, a dreamer, or someone rebuilding from a loss, this episode is a reminder: the pivot isn't the end — it's where growth begins. Ryan, Channing and Fred visit Lafayette, Louisiana, home of the Bech family and sit with Jack at the place his football career all started, St. Thomas More Catholic High School. Recent tragedy struck his family as his older brother, Tiger, was a victim of the Bourbon Street New Year's Eve attack. Jack opens up on the horrific moments of that night as he reflects on losing his brother who he idolized in every aspect from football to his faith to being his best friend since he was a young boy. In a special moment, he reveals something that he hasn't publicly shared yet about losing his brother and why now is the right time to share, With Jack projected to be a day two pick in the upcoming NFL draft, he shares that NFL teams are getting a two-for-one special as he is no longer just playing for him, but his brother too. As a wide receiver, his football journey has been anything but linear. From LSU to TCU, Jack opens up about the highs, the heartbreaks, and the headspace it takes to bet on yourself when the world starts doubting you. Coming off a dominant final year in college ball, Jack shares how he's turned grief into grit—navigating injuries, transfers, and the pressure of expectations while holding tight to his love for the game. His family's heartbreak is added-fuel towards fulfilling his dream of a long successful NFL career and names a few star wide receivers he admires and models his game after from Cooper Kupp to LSU friends Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson and Malik Nabers, taking pieces of their style to craft into his own. Jack is ready for wherever his journey takes him next and his guardian angel will be there to join him in any NFL city he calls home, and if you don't believe him, just watch. The Pivot Family will be rooting for Jack and his family this weekend as his football fate is determined. Don't forget to subscribe and comment below. Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a textStrap in for an unfiltered journey through sports controversies, relationship betrayals, and hip-hop's most heated debates. We kick things off exploring whether Aaron Rodgers should take his talents to Minnesota, weighing if his undeniable skill outweighs his controversial personality. Could the Vikings be the perfect landing spot for a redemption arc with Justin Jefferson? The conversation shifts to a relationship dilemma that sparks passionate debate: what cuts deeper — discovering infidelity or learning someone else is financially supporting your partner behind your back? Our hosts share raw personal experiences that reveal how financial betrayal can be just as devastating as cheating, especially when you're still being asked for money while someone else is footing the bills. The heat rises as we dive into hip-hop's Mount Rushmore conversations. Who truly deserves immortalization among mixtape legends? Is Lil Wayne the undisputed leader? Does 50 Cent's early mixtape dominance earn him a spot? Our hosts construct their dream lineups for mixtapes, trap pioneers, and influential white rappers, examining the difference between innovators and perfectors of the form.We also untangle the Keri Hilson controversy following her Breakfast Club revelation that she was forced to record her infamous Beyoncé diss track. Was this truly career suicide, or was poor management the real culprit? Then, we break down the seemingly eternal feud between 50 Cent and Ja Rule — now with both approaching 50 years old — questioning why some beefs never die despite decades passing.FOLLOW. SUBSCRIBE. Wobby found one for you from the University of Tennessee who could be a 6th-round target for the Vikings. 17:05 - Cam Ward is the most popular University of Miami prospect and is expected to be selected first overall, but Wobby found a different Hurricane who could help the Vikings and may not be selected until the final round. 20:04 - There are three members of Wobby's honorable mention group at wide receiver, and each can be targeted in the 5th round or later.

The Word of the Day is Notable (0:00-13:11) Rafael Marchan serves as the backup catcher for the Phillies and expressed his desire to secure a spot on the roster this season. He approached the backup role with dedication, in contrast to Garrett Stubbs, who appeared less committed to the position. (13:11-21:31) In historic achievement, Alex Ovechkin has become the all-time leading goal scorer in NHL history, prompting discussions about active players who might surpass this new milestone. (21:31 -33:42) Among those mentioned were Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid, both of whom are exceptional talents capable of challenging existing records. (33:42-43:10) One texter suggested that Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase could potentially break Jerry Rice's all-time receiving yards record; however, Tyrone argued that they are unlikely to approach his receptions record. [03:00] Aaron Rodgers Officially a Free AgentAaron Rodgers is now officially a free agent following his release by the New York Jets at the start of the league year on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Eastern. The move, while long-anticipated, was not formally announced by the Jets but is expected to appear on the NFL's evening transaction wire. By waiting until the new league year to release him, the Jets can now designate Rodgers as a post-June 1 cut, allowing them to spread his massive $49 million cap hit across two seasons—$14 million this year and $35 million in 2026. In the meantime, they will carry his full cap charge of $23.5 million until June 1, after which they will free up $9.5 million in cap space. [12:30] Vikings Showing Interest in Aaron RodgersReports suggest that the Minnesota Vikings have internally discussed the possibility of signing Aaron Rodgers, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. While it remains uncertain how serious the Vikings are about pursuing Rodgers, the team is at least exploring the idea. The conversation shifts to whether Minnesota should have the most interest in Rodgers and how he could elevate the offense, especially with a weapon like Justin Jefferson at his disposal. [22:45] Rams Releasing Cooper KuppThe Los Angeles Rams have decided to release star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, designating him as a post-June 1 cut. This means they will carry his $29.78 million cap hit until June before spreading the financial impact across multiple seasons, with dead cap hits of $14.78 million in 2025 and $7.48 million in 2026. [32:10] Amon-Ra St. Brown Sounds Off on the BearsDetroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has taken notice of the Chicago Bears' aggressive moves in free agency. Chicago has bolstered its offensive line by acquiring guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, while also signing center Drew Dalman. On the defensive side, the Bears have added pass rushers Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett, making them a much more formidable team heading into the 2025 season. [40:20] Joey Bosa Joins the Buffalo BillsPro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa has signed a one-year, $12.6 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, marking the end of his tenure with the Los Angeles Chargers. Bosa has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons but was still selected as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2024. His arrival in Buffalo is expected to strengthen the Bills' defensive front, especially after they released Von Miller to free up $8.4 million in cap space. [45:15] Mac Jones to the 49ersIn smaller free agency news, former New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones has signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers, with $5 million guaranteed. Jones appeared in 10 games last season for the Jaguars in relief of an injured Trevor Lawrence, completing 65.3% of his passes for 1,672 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. Jacksonville struggled in those games, going 2-5 and averaging just 15 points per game. Click here to subscribe, rate, and review the newest episodes of GoJo and Golic!
