A few months ago, some colleagues of mine shared a video on their facebook pages announcing that they were getting divorced. We were so impressed by how they handled the announcement and when we reached out to interview them, they offered to come on together! So today we have Rev. Katrina Macaluso and Rev. J. Eric Thompson to share their story and insights with us.We dove deep into some heady theology, working to untangle some of the harm done by the church around divorce and with the Mark 10 text. But we also dove into the realities of changing a major relationship status, navigating a divorce with kids, as well as removing some of the shame around divorce. And friends, if divorce is a hard subject for you, give yourself some grace with this one. Take it piece by piece if you need to, and remember that every story is unique. Yours may look different than Katrina and Eric's and that's okay. What we hope to do with this episode is dive into how one family is navigating these waters and, in doing so, maybe offer a lifeline to others who have maybe felt shame and stigma around this really hard thing.Rev. Katrina Macaluso:Katrina is currently the minister of the United Church of Warsaw in Western New York. She is a graduate of Buffalo State College and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.  A fifth generation clergy person, she has served the church in a variety of capacities throughout her career. In her spare time, Katrina enjoys gardening and making music with her band, Languid Dandy. Rev. J. Eric Thompson:Growing up in a military family marked by illness, J. Eric Thompson embodies what he was once told by a mentor: caregivers are made, not born. He is an Episcopal Priest of 15 years with experience in military and medical chaplaincy, as well as parochial ministry. He has two brilliant but exhausting children, John and June (named both for family members as well as the country musicians). He currently serves churches in Western New York State.SPONSOR:This episode is sponsored by Bliss Hot Yoga & Wellness Studio in Kenosha, WI. Viking Hot Takes: Are You Worried?

Minnesota Vikings OTA’s are underway and the guys are looking forward. Should we be worried?   “It’s time for Viking Hot Takes. The FAST MOVING Minnesota Vikings Talk Show. Today, we’ have Eric Thompson from the Daily Norseman. We’ve got Flip Mazzi from Climbing the Pocket. SO Buckle Up, protect your kneecaps and Let’s GO!” The temperatures aren’t the only thing heating up in Minnesota this weekend—Flip and myself were back for the tenth episode of Viking Hot Takes on the Climbing The Pocket channel on Thursday night. Following the usual format of the show, we put the usual 20 minutes on the clock and asked each other three questions: Flip asks How would you rank the Top 3 NFL Divisions right now? Who should be two Vikings fantasy football sleepers for 2021? What two first round rookie quarterbacks are most likely to be busts? Eric asks How worried should we be about Danielle Hunter holding out? What do you want the Vikings to do with their post-June 1st cap money? Who will be the starting quarterbacks when the Vikings face the Bears and Packers in 2021? Some highlights from the show: We agreed on our top two divisions in football, which just so happen to include eight of the Vikings’ opponents this season. Neither of us are all that worried about the Hunter situation yet, but I explained how I’ll feel a lot better when he actually reports. I’m all in on the Irv Smith Jr. hype train, while Flip thinks the Vikings defense will bounce back to be a viable fantasy option in 2021. Flip thinks the Vikings should save their newfound funds, while I prefer utilizing it to lock down key players for the future. When it came to potential first round quarterback busts, both of us mentioned a top two pick. We agreed that there probably won’t be any surprises under center when the Vikings face Green Bay and Chicago late in the 2021 season. Do you think another division should have been mentioned in our top 3? Do you think the we should be hitting the panic button about Hunter? Are there fantasy sleepers or quarterback busts we should have mentioned? You can watch the show in its entirety in the headline above. It’s a quick 20-minute watch and/or listen, and includes live viewer reactions. Be on the lookout for more information about future shows by following along with Flip, Climbing the Pocket, and me on Twitter. #Vikings #VikingHotTakes #CTPN #ClimbingThePocket #LetGetLive Fan with us!!! My guest on this episode of Nobody’s Safe w/Brady Laber is Eric Thompson who is the JV head basketball coach at McNicholas High School and a former team manager for men’s basketball team at Xavier University. Eric has a great story about positivity and inspiration. He was diagnosed as a child with a form of muscular dystrophy called spinal muscular atrophy. He has been in a wheelchair since the age of 9 but it does not get him down or be what defines him. He grew up on the Eastside of Cincinnati and attended St. Thomas More grade school and graduated from Archbishop McNicolas High School. He credits the love of sports as being the bonding agent with him and the other kids while growing to become his friends. He kept the stats and was a team manager for the McNick baseball and basketball programs while in high school. This led to him wanting to pursue a profession in the sports field. After attending the University of Kentucky for his freshman year and working there in the Athletics Communications Department, Eric transfers back home to attend Xavier University. Eric befriends former Xavier basketball player Sherwin Anderson who introduces him to the legendary Sr. Rose Ann Fleming (https://goxavier.com/staff-directory/sr-rose-ann-fleming/1). Sister Fleming picks up the phone with and Eric and his parents in her office and calls head coach Chris Mack. Just like that Eric becomes a team manager for the men’s basketball program. Eric looks back on some of the great memories of his time with the basketball program. He is there for three seasons and some of the stories are just incredible including having an up close vantage point for the infamous Crosstown Shootout that ended in controversy. After his time with the basketball team ends Eric sticks around to intern under Sports Information Director Tom Eiser while working on his masters degree in Sports Management. Eric moves on to a job in the ticket office before landing his current job with the university as the Annual Giving Officer. Although Eric has a successful professional career he still was missing something and that was having basketball in life. He decides that he wants build on a promising coaching career. While in college he begins coaching for his friends Sherwin Anderson’s Shining Stars AAU program. His leads to numerous stops working his way up the ladder. In the late spring of 2020, he returns to his alma matter and becomes the JV head coach at McNicholas High School. Eric credits and thanks varsity head coach Tim Monahan (https://twitter.com/CoachTMonahan) (his former history teacher) and athletic director Drew Schmidt (https://twitter.com/SchmidtDrew10) (a former schoolmate) for bringing him back home to McNick. Eric admits that one day he would love to be a varsity head coach but as for now he couldn’t be any happier than to be back on Beechmont Avenue coaching for the Rockets. Those percentages rank Nebraska third highest of the 50 states and the highest percentage for any state with a population over 1 million. This study is a joint collaborative effort of the Department of Agricultural Economics and the Bureau of Business Research within the Department of Economics and funded internally by the Institute of Agricultural and Natural Resources (IANR) of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Eric Thompson has been delighting and entertaining audiences since the early 1980’s with his unique style of comedy, magic, and illusions. Eric is an accomplished comedic magician, a veteran of hundreds of venues including comedy clubs, theaters, college campuses and corporate events. His distinctive variety of humor, his individual flair and his cleverly adept ability to amaze has brought rave reviews from audiences and media alike. While traveling abroad many years ago, Eric Thompson recognized that many families, especially those with children, lacked necessities that we often take for granted in the United States. Hearing about the impoverished nations and seeing the suffering are two different perspectives. The seed was planted when Eric thought about the people he saw who were lacking consistently clean water, basic nutritional needs, and access to any medical treatment, schools, and jobs. He continued to search for a way he could help when a long-time friend approached him and offered a seat on a plane heading to meet up with a missionary group in Latin America. Eric jumped at the chance and the group decided the best way to use Eric’s skills as an entertainer would be to organize shows in each of the many villages they would visit. The news of a professional American entertainer coming to perform for them brought out large crowds and anticipation in every village they visited. The children fell in love with his humor and magic tricks. In many villages, he quickly became known as “Senor Mago Loco,” translated that’s Mr. Crazy Magician. The children would see his show at their school during the day and bring their entire family to the village center or a large church for a second show that evening. It was here that Eric had the opportunity to meet and talk at length with many of the people. He learned of their plight and how they worked to combat the problems associated with poverty and hunger. These people touched Eric in a way that no one else could. Having shared their homes, food, and fellowship, Eric knew what he would do to help. Upon returning to the United States, he began a campaign to raise money. The money would buy not just a handout for his new friends in Latin America, but an opportunity to grow their food. They could be able to sell or trade the extras at the market. Eric quickly decided that this would become an obsession, and he named his program MILLION MILES MILLION SMILES. He made his promise to the world to visit as many remote and distressed destinations where people were void of joy and hope. Bringing his ability for magic and comedy performance, Eric helps them learn to laugh and forget their problems, even if just for a little while. At many of his MILLION MILES MILLION SMILES destinations, he tries to arrange a donation of food for the families in his audiences to take home.

These donations were surpassed by the many fraternal, religious, and community organizations who have continued to support this cause with donations. Many of Eric’s oldest friends and clients have generously made private donations to some of Eric’s favorite mission groups.Much of the money has gone to purchase pairs of chickens for families in Guatemala and West Africa. The families take care of the chickens, harvesting some of the eggs for food and allowing the others to hatch. Within a few months to a year, they have a flock that gives them an endless supply of protein via eggs and meat to feed their family as well as selling the other birds and eggs at the market. Eric’s passion and generosity have created dozens upon dozens of entrepreneurs in several nations around the world. This action is helping to eliminate poverty in many villages, one family at a time.Continents Around The WorldEric has taken his talents to communities on several continents around the world in such far-reaching places as Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten,Eric has taken his talents to communities on several continents around the world in such far-reaching places as Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, The Bahamas, Martinique, Burkina Faso, West Africa and more.Eric has also spent untold hours raising money and awareness for the less fortunate in the United States, too. He regularly performs in homeless shelters, churches, and charities raising money and awareness for countless charities. This past Christmas season, Eric wanted to send a few pairs of mating chickens to the families in Burkina Faso and Guatemala that befriended him during his time in their countries. Setting out to raise enough money to send two dozen pairs of chickens to each nation, Eric put the word out at a handful of his performances and via social media. Within a couple of weeks, he and his friends had collected enough money to purchase more than 220 chickens to help hundreds of people in the villages in Africa and Latin America where Eric spent time performing and making friends.ABOUT SUCCESSFULLY CHAOTIC :I have a confession...I suck at lots of things...I mean it. As a business owner, wife, and mom of 7 kids (one on the autism spectrum) I get PLENTY of opportunities to mess things up. I have had my “go get ‘em” moments where I shine (for a moment) only to fall down a hill, burst into flames and drag myself back up the other side. I have had more than my fair share of life’s chaos. Some I had no control over and some I helped along. So how can I be successful in the midst of life’s chaos? I think the idea that someone reaches success is a unicorn. We are all constantly growing, and changing. What means success to us today isn't what it meant 20 years ago. The first step is defining how YOU define success. We talk with people who have experienced their OWN chaos and have come out on top. We want to share our mess ups, as well as our "ah ha" moments, all while giving you nuggets of helpful information that you can use in your own life and business.  Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us! -Maria
