Vikings at Packers. The Minnesota Vikings will attempt to sweep the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football in Lambeau and cold January night. Can they do it? Not at all. The Vikes need to win out to have a hope of making the playoffs, but this got even tougher with the loss of Kirk Cousins to the Covid-IR list. He's not the only Vikings player out either. Starter Michael Pierce at nose tackle was ruled out. Will Armon Watts step into the start, or will Dalvin Tomlinson move to the middle? Watts started at nose tackle. It didn't matter. Sean Mannion gets the start, meaning expect to see Dalvin Cook get a heavy run load. Will it work? Not even close. Will you join us in the final 2:00, find out, and react? We invite you to LIVE! 1) Highlights 2) Lowlights 3) Speed round and your questions 4) What's ahead The Final Score [the name for CTP's Postgame show] is ready for the season. Here we are for the most important game of the season. The Minnesota Vikings on their own have put themselves in a place where they need to win out and get help to make the playoffs and they have started with the game at Labeau Field on a frigid Sunday night in front of the world to see. Can they do it? This team has not done anything easy this campaign, and Vikings at Green Bay Packers is always a tough game made even tougher by starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins, testing positive for Covid. Backup, Sean Mannion, just coming off Covid IR gets the call instead. Do the Vikes have a chance to defeat their biggest rival on Sunday Night Football? If they do, look for it to be with the running game. This and more in this pregame show preview. Two Old Bloggers are comprised of Dave and Darren, who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! Here are the themes for the show: We'll go over the usual stats to start - the strengths and weaknesses of each team. The news of Kirk Cousins testing positive for Covid. Theme #1 - Justin Jefferson calling out the Vikings Jefferson said he tried to inject some life into his teammates against the Rams. Said they lacked energy. This is a sad statement for the 2021 Vikings. The Rams game was a big game - win and they took a big step to make the playoffs. How can Viking players lack energy in a game that is so important for the team? If the Vikings don't play with more fire, more energy, and more urgency at Lambeau on Sunday, the season will be over. They won't beat the Packers playing with a half-hearted effort. Theme #2 - Vikings Special teams edge Offensively and defensively - TTFW has the edge on the Vikings. Special teams are a different story. The Vikings hold a large edge there - even after giving up a punt return TD against LA My prediction - Kwangwu gets his third kickoff return TD of the season against Green Bay and Mason Crosby will miss another important field goal. Special teams could keep the Vikings in this game and be an important equalizer Sunday. Theme #3 - Mike Zimmer's last stand? Viking fans have been on a Mike Zimmer watch for weeks now. The fans seem to have had enough of the coach and maybe some of the players, too. He's survived so far but will a loss to TTFW be the end for him? I think it will - especially if the Vikings are not competitive in this one. If the Vikes lose the team is officially eliminated from the playoffs.  That will be two years in a row with a losing record. With NFL teams that have a head coaching vacancy allowed to interview candidates as of Dec. 28, firing Zimmer after a loss at Lambeau makes sense. They can get a head start on finding their next HC and not miss out on any candidates they want. And it doesn't impact their playoff push because they will have been eliminated. It's really minimal disruption for the team to go with an interim guy for the final game of the season. I expect the Wilf's to pull the trigger if the Vikings lose to TTFW on Sunday. The Good News - Jared Allen HOF finalist. Join us for your Minnesota Vikings talk amongst Two Old Bloggers and join the conversation! Fan with us!!! There it is… the news every Minnesota Vikings fan was expecting at some point this season. Vikes' starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins has tested positive ahead of the big game with the division rival Green Bay Packers. He has been put on Covid IR and not be available. Sean Mannion is the backup, but he is already on Covid IR, but just cleared off of it today. Vikings announce Mannion will start Sunday night. That means no Kellen Mond or Kyle Sloter barring injury for all the fans that wanted either. Vegas, took the game off the books upon the news. The Packers were 6.5 point favorites before. Expect that to drastically rise shortly. ...And it did, with the Vikes now being 13 point underdogs. Mike Zimmer in his press conference praises Sean Mannion ahead of the game. Kirk Cousins raised eyebrows early in the 2021 campaign when he came out publicly as unvaccinated, and saying that he would stay so. There was the whole press conference about plexiglass boxes and meeting under the goal posts in December if needed. Mike Zimmer had plead with the team to get vaccinated, and Kirk was one who refused. It will now cost the Vikings their best shot in years to sweep their cross border rivals, and probably any hopes of making the playoffs. What are your reactions? Fan with us!!! And yet again, we have another December game in Chicago, stadium that has caused your Minnesota Vikings fits. The purple is trying to get back to 500 again… Like the story of all of the season. This time comes against the Chicago Bears. The weather will be clear, and right around freezing. Will Kirk Cousins do well under the bright lights of Monday Night Football? He has only done it once. Will the team play down to their opponent or will they win or lose soundly? If this season is forever on repeat, it will come down to the last series once again. Will this be the game the Vikes pull it all together?  Dave and Darren who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago will go over a way to possibly see how this game will go and if the Vikings can win, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman pregame show! Starting with the BREAKING NEWS of Bashaud Breeland being cut. More will come out on this story. Here are the themes for the show: We'll go over the usual stats to start - strengths and weaknesses of each team. Topic #1 Stopping David Montgomery Vikings need it make life difficult for this guy. In his last two games against the Vikings, Montgomery has rushed for well over 100 yards. He's a back who is similar to Najee Harris - physical, great balance, breaks a lot of tackles, great at gaining yards after contact. In last year's game in Minnesota, Montgomery broke tackle after tackle and rushed for 146 yards and two TDs. Vikings defense could not stop him. If Montgomery is rolling again in this game, he'll make life easier for Justin Fields and the Bears offense, which has been bad all season. Topic #2 Mike Zimmer vs. Justin Fields Last week Zimmer was on a roll against Pittsburgh for three quarters. Lots of pressure and confusion was generated among the Steelers offensive line. They couldn't figure out the pressure and blitz packages. Fields has struggled as a rookie. He's taken a lot of sacks. Holds on to the ball too long. He's a QB that Zimmer should be able to attack and confuse with different looks.  The Bears offensive line is also not good. Zimmer needs to create defensive scheme on passing downs that creates pressure but also doesn't create obvious running lanes for Fields. He is a great runner and can create big plays with his feet - just like Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray. Topic #3 - Soldier Field Effect I don't know why - outdoors, crappy field conditions, loud fans - but the Vikings usually play poorly at Soldier Field. This is not a good Bears team, but that doesn't seem to matter when the Vikings play them at Soldier Field. Vikes often seem to play flat, turn the ball over and struggle on offense and defense. Wins at this dump are rare. The Vikes did win last year. They need to win again this year. Not sure how the Vikes and Zimmer are going to do it, but to keep the playoff hopes alive they need to get rid of the bad juju at Soldier Field. They need to play a solid, full football game in a tough environment. It's not something they have specialized in. Your Minnesota Vikings are now in survival mode. The problem is that the Pittsburgh Steelers are too, and they meet tonight in US Bank Stadium. The Steelers came off a big emotional win versus the Ravens. The Vikings are coming off a situation clarifying loss against the Lions. Which team will take the most advantage of that? Our Vikings, but again it was too close. The Vikes will be wearing their Primetime Purple as we all watch in anticipation. One of the anticipations will be to see how Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks get to play with the Meaty Boys, Dalvin Tomlinson and Michael Pierce in front of them for the first time since training camp. Can they, with the rest of the defense shut down and take advantage of the aging Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense? They did in the first half. Can the Vikings O-line keep Kirk Cousins from being sacked from the defense that leads the league in sacks led by TJ Watt and Cameron Hayward? They did! Can Justin Jefferson still be as effective with Adam Thielen out? He was for the most part. Cook had a heck of a game. We will all find out with you, and will be going live in the final two minutes of the game with The Final Score. 1) Highlights 2) Lowlights 3) Speed round and your questions 4) What's ahead The Final Score [the name for CTP's Postgame show] is ready for the season. There are 4 new regulars and the occasional guest. The focus will be on you the fan, and how you felt the team did. Hopefully racking up the wins in the regular season. It's Monday and fans of the Minnesota Vikings are in a mood. After a dreadful loss to the previously winless Detroit Lions, things look bleak for our favorite franchise. The Vikings lost agin yesterday 29-27 on the last play after a slow start, comeback due to the Lions being the Lions, then let them score one last time as the clock runs out. It is time to call out the good things like Justin Jefferson having a big game. Up next will be another struggling team this season. The Pittsburgh Steelers come to town for a Thursday night showdown. A good thing about the game is that those that love purple get to see the Vikes in their Prime Time Purple. Another good thing, and maybe the best big thing, is that the knowledge of at least head coach Mike Zimmer will be released soon, even if that is at the end of the season. Since we hope to lighten your Mondays, we'll start the next coach search and are interested in your thoughts. Deshawn, and Dave will be here with you to talk about just that, and to turn your Monday Purple! Other talking points for tonight's show:  Quick review of the loss on Sunday. Your Minnesota Vikings stay on the road, this time matching up with the Detroit Lions in their color rush silver uniforms. The Vikes are looking to get back to .500 once again and keep their hopes to slide into the playoffs alive. Will they? Nope. The Lions are looking to get their first win. Will they? Yes, they did. The beloved Purple are short some very key players, especially on defense. Eric Kendricks is out, along with Camryn Bynum who backs up the safety spot and comes in for dime situations. There is also Patrick Peterson who's been on Covid IR. He could possibly, theoretically return with a second negative test. Will he? Nope. Then if the questionable of Anthony Barr and Mackensie Alexander don't actually play, stopping even the Lions could be tough. Barr was out, but Mac was in. Over on the offensive side, the team will miss RB Dalvin Cook and LT Christian Darrisaw. Obviously Alexander Mattison will take over as the primary runner, and hopefully Kene Nwangwu will be spelling him. The only problem there is that Kene is questionable with an illness. He played. Are you looking forward to seeing what Nwangwu can do from the backfield? We at Climbing The Pocket sure are. With Darrisaw out, the Vikings are up to there shenanigans again, shuffling the O-line. They moved Oli Udoh from RG to LT, Garrett Bradbury will resume his starting role at center, and Mason Cole will slid to RG. How will that go? Meh. It could go extremely well or horrifically bad. What was your guess? We will all find out with you going live in the final two minutes of the game with The Final Score. 1) Highlights 2) Lowlights 3) Speed round and your questions 4) What's ahead The Final Score [the name for CTP's Postgame show] is ready for the season.
