Here’s a little story about a trio of janitors. Might have heard they worked at a well-known film school. They picked up a few things other than trash. They might hate your movie, or if drunk think it’s cool. Every now and then they get together for a lunch break. Trash talk some movie, or TV, or…
The wait is over! Who was waiting and how long they were waiting is unimportant! DUNE is here! The Film School Janitors already rewatched and reviewed the 1984 version, and this is their review of the 2021 version! Does the review get sand in all the wrong places? You better believe it!
Though it's goofy title sounds more like a studio mandate, the Film School Janitors watched VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE! Though not an official entry into the MCU, it is a Marvel film. The Film School Janitors seem predisposed to loving all things Marvel - does this one follow that pattern? Listen and find out!
The Film School Janitors are heading back to school, and they're going to Nic Cage University! Their first assignment? PIG You read that right! When Nicolas Cage's truffle sniffing pig gets taken, he tracks it down and revisits his old life (and society). What did the Film School Janitor learn? Listen to find out!
First came the cartoon, then the live-action remake, then the cartoon sequel and the live-action sequel... now the gritty origin story reboot! What did the Film School Janitors think about Disney's new take on their classic villain, CRUELLA? They have at least 101 things to say...
Netflix flicks are hit or miss. Is one of their latest - KATE - a hit or a miss? Considering Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays an assassin, hitting or missing is a very large part of it. Also, having only about 24 hours to live after being poisoned. That's also a large part. The Film School Janitors are just here for the target practice.
The last episode of season one surprisingly brings all the previous eight episodes together to wrap up the battle between The Watcher and Ultra(?) Ultron. Did it work as a story? Did they work well as a team? The Film School Janitors have thoughts, and these be them!
After a goofier episode (with a foreboding ending), episode 8 of WHAT IF...? gets right back into the nitty gritty. It pre-supposes that Ultron completed his mission of transferring his consciousness into the construct that would become known as The Vision, and all "realities" break loose. Did the Film School Janitors enjoy the showdown between Ultron and The Watcher? Listen and find out!
Disney slash Marvel are at it again... or at least us small folks are playing David to their Goliath. This time around, it's the relatives of the creatives that, um, created all the iconic Marvel characters trying to get a bigger piece of the Mickey Mouse pie. Do they have any ground to stand on? Who knows? We're Film School Janitors, not Law School Janitors...
Episode 7 of WHAT IF...? is sort of a mixed bag. On one hand, it's one of the lighter, goofier entries. On the other hand, is that what we as an audience wants? Let the Film School Janitors take both of those hands and be your guide through this review.
The 23th film in Eon Productions' James Bond series is considered by many to be one of the - if not "the" - best. SKYFALL was released for the 50th anniversary of the franchise, and it might have possibly been Daniel Craig's last go. We know how that turned out. Here's the Film School Janitors review of Bond 23.
This was SUPPOSED to be to Film School Janitors' review of CASINO ROYALE, but then the discussion of who should play him next became QUITE a heated battleground. It takes a bit to get there, and this review took place before they saw NOT TIME TO DIE. Listen if you enjoy pain... kind of like how James Bond does.
CASINO ROYALE is part one of Daniel Craig's era of portraying James Bond, but does it hold up? (A lot of the older Bond films definitely do not.) This came out in 2006 in the era of gritty reboots, and it eschewed a lot of what made Bond, well, Bond. Join the Film School Janitors as they review the 21st James Bond film.
A rare treat! The Film School Janitors review a horror film! But is MALIGNANT just a horror film? This one has audiences split - some people love this thing and some people absolutely hate it. Where do the Film School Janitors' feelings lie? Listen and find out!
For episode 6 of WHAT IF...?, the Film School Janitors don't have much to say, which is saying a lot. Also, does this one exhibit a plot hole that requires its own additional WHAT IF...? to fix it? And is this the last episode containing Chadwick Boseman's voice acting? You are certainly missed, Mr. Boseman.
It's time for episode 5 of WHAT IF...? and it's a little early for a Halloween episode. This episode takes the cult favorite comic series MARVEL ZOMBIES and... basically makes up its own thing. There are no X-MEN or FANTASTIC FOUR in the MCU yet, so what else could they do? The Film School Janitors take a bite out of this one.
Episode four of Disney+'s WHAT IF...? is even darker than the previous episode. And the Film School Janitors are all here for it. Or are they? You'll have to listen to find out what they think about Doctor Strange turning to the Dark Side... or something like that.
We're getting back into the swing of things (should have saved that for the new Spider-Man movie... dang it) with Marvel's latest entry into the MCU. The Film School Janitors ventured back into the cinemas to see SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS, and these are their long (and somewhat drunken rambling) thoughts on the film.
The Film School Janitors go arthouse with this one! They rate and review THE GREEN KNIGHT with the help of another friend! A24 is a film studio known for putting out a certain type of movie, and this classic literary sweeping epic is... exactly like their certain types of movies. The Film School Janitors have already reviewed two of their other releases - VAL and UNCUT GEMS. Will they continue and maybe even dive into their back catalog (Janitor Sean would really like that)? Listen and find out!
You never know what you're going to get with a Netflix film. It can start off rough, with a voice over and stilted dialog, but if you stick with it, it might really surprise you. Did SWEET GIRL (which really should have been called "Sweet Child" or "Sweet Child of Mine" because that's all I ever want to call it) sweep the Film School Janitors off their feet? Listen and find out.
The Film School Janitors would like for you to go on a journey of the mind. Unfortunately, your vehicle is Hugh Jackman's latest film, REMINISCENCE. It takes place in the not-too-distant future, where climate change has ravaged the world (maybe it takes place now?). Life is so bad, people can pay to relive their best memories. But the memories can also be explored by outsiders to find hidden elements to solve crimes. Sounds like it could be interesting, right? Listen to find out if the Film School Janitors solve the case of (spoiler!) why didn't this movie work.
This might be the first time that the Film School Janitors reviewed a documentary, and it's such a coincidence that this is the first time Val Kilmer made a documentary! Well, that's not necessarily true... VAL is the story of his life, aided by the fact he basically filmed everything he's ever done, including making this documentary! Whether you were a fan of him or not, check out the doc on Amazon Prime, this podcast wherever you get your podcasts included Amazon Music, or both! Once more with feeling - Amazon!
The third episode of Disney+'s WHAT IF...? goes a little dark. It begins with the, um, beginning of the Avengers Initiative, lead by Nick Fury, and it follows with many mysterious deaths of those potential candidates. I told you it was a little dark... The Film School Janitors tear apart the logistics of the episode. Take a listen.
The second episode of Disney+'s WHAT IF...? strikes a bittersweet note. As the last work of the late and great Chadwick Boseman, there's an additional unspoken layer to this episode that posits the notion the his character, T'Challa, might have been meant for even more than what this Earth could offer, just like with Mr. Boseman. The Film School Janitors discuss the events of the episode, as well as speculate what might happen in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME.
Here is the review for the first episode of Disney+'s WHAT IF...? The Film School Janitors dive in and wade around the waters of the first animated foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which focuses on the creation of this alternate universe's first super soldier. Is it a good episode? How does it stack up against other MCU shows, like LOKI and WANDAVISION? Listen and find out!
What do you get when you take a master marketer, throw in a studio buyout, and pile on a worldwide pandemic? 20th Century Films' FREE GUY! Which is actually more like, Disney's FREE GUY! The Film School Janitors dared to venture out to the theater for you, and this is their review of a movie only Ryan Reynolds could pull off!
The Film School Janitors have released the Film School Janitors cut of their review of both SUICIDE SQUAD and THE SUICIDE SQUAD! This is the authentic cut of the Film School Janitors review. You can tel because it's by "the" Film School Janitors and not The Film School Janitors. We live in strange times...
What's everybody whining about when it comes to MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVELATIONS? The first half of the first (only?) season is available now on Netflix, and boy, you would think a bunch of babies were watching this show with the amount of tears on display. The Film School Janitors try to figure out why there's such a visceral reaction to the sequel series that tries to do something different other than the old show. You know the old show - where the bad guys come up with some stupid plan and the heroes (notice it's plural) thwart them by just tossing the bad guys around? Oh, and it was made to sell toys, but most of the toys never even made it into the old show. Yeah.
So apparently SNAKE EYES: G.I. JOE ORIGINS is considered a bomb at the box office. Do the Film School Janitors have the answers as to why? They review the third film to be based off the famous toy line, and they aren't playing games. Well, drinking games. They are playing drinking games. Ones without rules.
The Film School Janitors tackle both versions of JUSTIC LEAGUE - the theatrical version from 2017 by Joss Whedon, and the HBOMax release by Zack Snyder from 2021. The two movies together total over six hours. The fact this podcast came in under one hour is a gosh-danged miracle...
What's this? A show based on a comic book that's getting a second season on Netflix!? Unheard of! (Here's looking at you, the garbage that was Jupiter's Legacy - check out that podcast by the Film School Janitors). SWEET TOOTH tells the tale (hee-hee) of a boy that's half-deer trying to make it in a world that's been decimated by a virus. Hard to imagine, I know. The Film School Janitors were split on this one, so listen to find out why.
This review is not only about ARTEMIS FOWL the film, on Disney+, but also the book by Eoin Colfer. The Film School Janitors have thoughts about the film, and thoughts about the differences from the book. If you were a fan of the book, you will like this review! If you were a fan of the movie, I was told to only say nice things about people!
The Film School Janitors have a field day with this one! COME TO DADDY might sound off-putting by the title alone (no, not alone - your gutter mind is more to blame!), but it's a black comedy/thriller of sorts, starring Elijah Wood. It's about a man child reconnecting with his absentee father, and to say more will spoil the fun. Watch it and then listen, or listen to see if you'd like to watch. Either way, just listen!
Maybe you haven't heard about this film, so here's a little cheat sheet on SHADOW IN THE CLOUD: It stars Chloe Grace Moretz (I don't know how to make that umlaut above the "e" in her first name, but if I did, all the "e's" would have it). It takes place during WWII. And there's a shadow in the cloud. Anymore than that would be a disservice. So if you want to know more, listen to the Film School Janitors review of SHADOW IN THE CLOUD!
NO SUDDEN MOVE is the latest film directed by Steven Soderbergh, and the latest to be filmed in Detroit. That's where the Film School Janitors are all from, so they had to see this movie. It specifies that on all their documents. Speaking of documents, that's what this movie is all about. And double-crosses. Oh, and cars.
The Film School Janitors are PULLING A DOUBLE review with the classic(?) SPACE JAM, starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny, as well as the latest reboot/remake/sequel, SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY, starring LeBron James and Bugs Bunny. How do they stack up against each another in a game of one-on-one? NOTE: No animated characters were (seriously) hurt in the making of this podcast.
Do you like hyper-violence? Do you like retro modern aesthetics? Do you like the Film School Janitors? We are needy and we want to know. This is the review of NETFLIX'S GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE starring Karen Gillan amongst many other great female leads. It's a mix of a lot of other films, but is it fun? Listen to find out!
Introducing the new Film School Janitors subheading: NETFLIX AND CHILLED Our recording equipment has changed over these last few years, and these are the reviews that were lost in the shuffle and never posted! This is the first of many, and perhaps it will become a new trend of looking up forgotten Netflix films, but for now enjoy: The Film School Janitors' review of THE OLD GUARD, a comic book adaptation starring Charlize Theron as an immortal hero. Did you see it? Do you remember any of it? Perhaps this review will jog those thoughts for you!
They went and did it. They actually did it. All the teasing wasn't just teasing. But did it work for the uninformed fans of the show (i.e. non-comic book enthusiasts)? LOKI dropped its final episode, and the Film School Janitors are here to pick up the pieces, and fill in the blanks. Listen now!
