Racing Post editor Tom Kerr is joined by senior reporter Chris Cook and deputy industry editor Peter Scargill to discuss the biggest stories in the racing world. Chris chews over the Brighton blunder that saw four horses declared non-runners less than 45 minutes before the off on Friday after they were found to be ineligible for the race. Tom looks ahead to Royal Ascot, reflecting on the number of international runners and the Desert Crown affair. Peter reviews the latest developments at the Professional Jockeys Association, the troubled organisation to which former chief exec Paul Struthers has returned as a consultant and looks likely to prompt a more robust line taken on whip penalties.
After Simeon Brown said roads signs should be in English only as "we all speak English, they all should be in English" he today showed the talking points that National would use to try to walk back to dog whistle to a reasonable position. Problem is National's perception today on why he made the statements are not attached in any way to why yesterday he said he made the statements. It's obvious that this is a bad look for National and they are looking for a way to 'square that circle' and they think they may have found it. Labour MP Arena Williams embarrassed after a Tweet was fact checked by Twitter and seems to show, at the very least, an exaggeration about what she claims her father spends on prescriptions, as to what the reality is. NZ Herald Senior Writer Simon Wilson says that Christopher Luxon is battling for the entire future of the national Party. Simon says that that concept might seem a little weird but "National faces an existential threat this election. Not from Labour. The enemy is on the right: It's Act and NZ First and the battleground is race." We'll look at this tonight. Covid's grip on the Premier League's neck appears to be tightening again with Manchester United the latest to successfully appeal for a game to be called off. A new variant is in play, cases are on the rise and there are concerns that matches could once again return to being played behind closed doors. We discuss the scenario everyone dreads.Over in Switzerland, UEFA, to the amusement of many, cocked up the Champions League draw. They got it right at the second time of asking allowing us to pick our ties of the round. We also discover live on air that the Europa League, like an onion, has many, many layers.Elsewhere in football, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy leading many to ask how many more retro kits the club will drop to make things up to fans. There's also time for a quick chat about Conor Gallagher - the latest Chelsea academy kid to shine - and, on the eve of his retirement, some reflections on Sergio Aguero's career. There's only one place to start after the break - the madcap end to the Formula 1 season. Were we enthralled? Did we get angry? Did we sleep through it? You'll have to listen to find out.Chess makes the cut for a second week in a row (blame Wogan) and we make our pick for the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award. After 115 episodes, dating back to June 2019, we end with a final 'And Finally'. We're not saying goodbye forever, but we're certainly going to take a break for a while as we get to grips with more pressing real-life matters. Thanks for listening over the last two and a half years, it's been a blast.Big love and Merry Christmas. Well it's a new week Purple People, and we're coming to you from a very rainy July in England. Despite the grey and shortening days (thanks for the reminder Gyles), we're bringing you a seed of summer with a lovely chat about flowers. Susie reminds us of one of our favourite, most misleadingly named flowers - the Jerusalem Artichoke (do check out our other episode on Flowers called Edelweiss), explains why Poppies are poopy and an excellent symbol of the circle of life, and why orchids are a rather… ballsy flower. Gyles bestows and adopts a new nickname- one that his wife may disapprove of- and reveals that he loves sunflowers and green carnations… he and Susie have a love of Wilde flowers in common!Elsewhere we have more bollocks chat, answer your punny Purple post and, are treated to a poem from Gyles reminding us all to appreciate the rain in summer… Susie's Trio: Paraph- flourish after a signature Peely wally- feeling ratjer “meh” or under the weather Kenspeckle- conspicuous or easily recognised To buy SRWP mugs and more head to.... https://kontraband.shop/collections/something-rhymes-with-purple A Somethin' Else production. Chris, Richard and Tom provide the Pirelli inquest and wonder what's happened to a defence which was so solid before Christmas. Can Derby still make the playoffs? We also assess the run-ins of our top six rivals. Please retweet and share SBW! We're @SteveBloomerPod on Twitter, and we're on Facebook and Instagram too. Thanks for listening.

It's the two John's as unfortunately Krys has some technical issues and can't make it. Both charity bets were sadly unsuccessful though we weren't far away with the treble. After the chat last week about Gordon Strachan, it was confirmed last Thursday that he wouldn't be continuing as Scotland manager. Will we go for someone a wee bit different next in terms of a foreign manager? That is discussed with ex Italian boss Cesare Prandelli being mentioned. Plenty to talk about in the Premiership with Rangers continuing their fine away form. Aberdeen and Celtic continue their unbeaten runs and Motherwell continue their fine form. Kilmarnock announced Steve Clarke as manager and they got an instant response as he watched from the stands. Partick Thistle continue to struggle and remain winless. The Scottish Cup draw managed to be messed up and had to be drawn again. That leads us to talking about the results of the weekend with non SPFL teams knocking out Stirling Albion and Cowdenbeath. Celtic face a big week with games in three different competitions. Will their domestic run finally come to an end? They face a difficult trip to Bayern Munich first. Predictions are made and charity bets chosen. Thanks as always to McBookie for your support. Thanks for listening and remember we're on Twitter as sffpodcast if you wish to interact with us. And of course you can join us on Scottish Football Forums
