You know those war movies where the losing side of a battle retreats? Most wouldn't consider that kind of retreat a positive thing. Yet when you think about it, the characters who make that call are giving themselves (and the others fighting) permission to pause, regroup, and strategize.Members of the Runway to Freedom Mastermind enjoy a different kind of retreating that offers a similar purpose. As an entrepreneur and CEO, these retreats can propel you forward. So let's talk about this concept of retreating to advance in your business (and life). In this episode of She Thinks Big, you'll learn some tangible benefits and real-life challenges of retreats. A Somerset man who vanished after being struck by lightning, only to end up in a hospital from a different reality. A pilot flying from the Bahamas who found his plane suddenly drawn into an "electric fog tunnel" and transported to the Florida coastline in only 47 minutes. The anthropologist who speculates that UFOs could be time travelers from the future. The Italian Benedictine monk who claimed to have invented a device to view past events, only to have it dismantled by the Vatican. Foreword by Mark Olly Sean Casteel and Tim R. Swartz, along with some of the most talented paranormal researchers of our time, invite you on an unforgettable voyage through the past, present and future. Weird Time explores the fabric of reality itself, the many possibilities of tomorrow, and the realization that what we experience is only a fraction of a much larger, stranger universe.

This week it was a huge pleasure to be able to welcome Carl Mika, Professor of Māori and Indigenous Philosophies from Aotearoa, the country now known as New Zealand. As you can probably guess from the title of this episode, this conversation with Carl went pretty deep pretty quickly! That's because underlying the most apparently basic concepts like learning or logic that people use all the time are some pretty fundamental assumptions about the way the world is. And they're certainly not universal to all humans. So what does educating our young people in how to read their worlds mean in this case?Carl Mika is from the Tuhourangi iwi and is Professor of Māori and Indigenous Philosophies, and Head of School of Aotahi: School of Māori and Indigenous Studies, University of Canterbury. His published work includes Indigenous Education and the Metaphysics of Presence was published in 2017, Routledge), along with many articles and chapters, on the issues of colonisation and reductionism; Māori concepts of nothingness and darkness in response to an Enlightenment focus on clarity; mātauranga Māori and science. Carl teaches and researches in educational philosophy and mātauranga Māori, the law, and global studies, as well as aspects of Western philosophy. In 2024, Carl was awarded the University of Canterbury Research Medal. Also In 2024, he was recipient of the University of Canterbury Faculty of Arts Kairangahau Māori Award for research in Māori philosophies (both traditional and contemporary) and Māori methodologies. He is also a Fellow of the Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia (PESA). You can find further links to Carl's work here: https://profiles.canterbury.ac.nz/Carl-Te-Hira-Lewis-Mika

They Want "Time and Space"? What That Means

Coach Lee

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 6, 2025 11:16

What It Means When Your Ex Says They Need Time or Space It's common to feel confused and even panicked when your ex, boyfriend, or girlfriend says they need “time” or “space.” These words often leave people wondering: is this the end of the relationship, or is there still hope? In this article, we'll explore the meaning behind those phrases, the possible reasons someone might say them, and what you should do in response to improve your chances of reconciliation. Why They Might Say They Need Time or Space 1. A Gentle Breakup One reason your ex might ask for time or space is to soften the blow of a breakup. They may not want to be direct and say, “It's over.” Instead, they offer the idea of time or space to make it easier for you to accept the separation. It's their way of breaking up without the finality of saying it outright, allowing them to avoid a potentially emotional or confrontational situation. 2. Feeling Overwhelmed Another reason could be that they feel overwhelmed by the relationship. If you've been overly clingy, texting constantly, or pushing for more commitment than they're ready for, they might ask for space to relieve the pressure. This doesn't necessarily mean they don't care about you—it could just indicate that they need to regain a sense of balance. 3. Concerns About Moving Too Fast Sometimes, both people in a relationship can feel like things are progressing too quickly. Your ex might feel that the emotions and commitments are building faster than they can handle. They may fear the relationship isn't grounded in a strong foundation and worry that things could fall apart later. 4. Playing Games Occasionally, people ask for space as a way to play hard-to-get or test their partner's reaction. They might want to see how much you care and whether you'll chase after them. While this tactic can be frustrating, responding in a calm and collected manner is key. How to Respond If your ex asks for time or space, how you respond can make a significant difference in whether they eventually come back or drift further away. 1. Take Their Words at Face Value When they say they need time or space, believe them. Don't try to analyze every word or assume hidden meanings. By taking their request seriously and respecting their wishes, you demonstrate emotional maturity and self-confidence—qualities that can increase your attractiveness. 2. Give Them the Space They Asked For It's tempting to check in after a few days and ask if they've had enough time, but this approach usually backfires. People aren't math problems that can be solved with a set amount of time. Instead, let them come to you. This ensures they don't feel pressured or suffocated, and it gives them the opportunity to genuinely miss you. 3. Avoid Punishing Them for Needing Space When your ex does reach out, don't bring up their need for space or try to make them feel guilty. Comments like, “Well, you're the one who wanted time apart,” only create tension and make them less likely to reconnect with you. Instead, focus on rebuilding the connection and having positive interactions. 4. Stay Calm and Confident If you approach the situation with desperation or anxiety, it can push them further away. Instead, show them that you're secure enough to respect their boundaries. Confidence is attractive, and your calm demeanor can make them second-guess their decision to create distance. What to Avoid 1. Begging or Pleading Nothing erodes attraction faster than begging. If you constantly message them, pleading for another chance or trying to convince them to change their mind, you're likely doing more harm than good. 2. Making It About You It's easy to take their request for space personally, but doing so can lead to resentment and arguments. Remember, their need for space often has more to do with their feelings than with your behavior. 3. Trying to Force Reconciliation Some people mistakenly believe that the more they push for resolution, the faster they'll get their ex back. In reality, pressuring someone to return to a relationship often has the opposite effect. Rebuilding the Connection When your ex eventually reaches out, your response should be light and positive. Avoid rehashing the past or demanding explanations. Instead, focus on showing them why they were attracted to you in the first place. Be playful, kind, and confident. Here are a few tips for rebuilding: Keep interactions fun and lighthearted. Avoid heavy or serious conversations unless they bring it up first. Show your best self. Remind them of the qualities they fell in love with by being your authentic, confident self. Avoid pressuring them. Let things progress naturally without forcing discussions about the relationship's future. Final Thoughts Hearing that your ex needs time or space can be difficult, but it's not necessarily the end. By respecting their wishes, giving them room to miss you, and focusing on your own personal growth, you increase the chances of them coming back to you. Stephanie Rousselle welcomes Jenn Tucker to discuss overcoming the shame of mental health struggles, and the transformative power of Christian meditation. This practice is not merely about acquiring biblical knowledge, but about deeply embodying the teachings of Scripture. This spiritual discipline invites the presence of God into daily life through Christ, towards personal transformation and the renewing of our minds in Christ. When Jenn's youngest daughter began experiencing panic and anxiety, Jenn and her family plunged themselves deep into the world of therapy and psychiatry, witnessing firsthand the treatments, tools, and medications for panic attacks, anxiety disorders, depression, and other mental health conditions. As Jenn witnessed her daughter's suffering and learned to honestly address her own mental health struggles, she became passionate about the importance of mental health, particularly within faith communities. Once a source of shame and fear, Jenn is now an advocate for making mental health a priority. Jenn and her family have opened up about their journey with mental health because they love Jesus. They believe God's Word. They trust Him. They believe His plans are good and His purposes are for our ultimate good and His ultimate glory. But they have seen firsthand what it's like to have a serious mental health condition that requires the help of doctors and medications, and they are grateful to have these tools. The brain is a complicated and beautiful mystery in many ways. We have to care to the bodies that God has given us, and Jenn hopes to help others learn tactics to care for their minds and bodies while also growing closer to God. Anxiety — or any mental health condition — isn't a roadblock to faith but rather a way to grow closer to Christ. So, today, Jenn opens up about her past struggles with doubt, mental health, and the pressures of religious perfectionism. Raised in a fundamentalist environment where anxiety was viewed as sinful, she experienced significant personal shame. Her daughter's battle with anxiety and panic attacks allowed Jenn to reassess her beliefs and embrace God's comforting presence. This shift in understanding was a catalyst for change, leading her to realize the true good news of Jesus Christ. Meditation on Scripture is fundamentally different from, and complement to traditional Bible study. While the latter focuses on collecting knowledge, meditation is an intimate practice of spiritual reflection. By meditating on God's word through methods such as Lectio Divina, we can experience peace and resilience in the chaos of the modern world. Jenn speaks candidly about how this practice has helped her through personal struggles, allowing scriptural wisdom to become an integral part of her being. Both Jenn and Stephanie reflect on overcoming personal challenges through faith and recognizing the liberating nature of trust in God. They candidly discuss the guilt that can accompany misapplying biblical verses, and the pressure to perform religious tasks as proof of faith. Jenn encourages a shift from “doing for God” to “being with God,” emphasizing presence and relationship over actions. This change in perspective has allowed her to discern God's constant support through life's hardships and unexpected moments. Jenn shares three powerful methods for engaging with Scripture meditatively. First, she recommends reflecting on standout words or phrases within a passage, using them as focal points for prayer and contemplation. Secondly, praying phrase by phrase while listening for divine guidance can uncover God's individual invitations through scripture. Finally, she encourages considering what God may be inviting each individual to do or understand through their current life circumstances. These practices are designed to develop a deeper connection to God, transforming scripture into a living conversation. Christian meditation offers not just spiritual enrichment, but tangible health benefits, such as reduced stress and improved mental clarity. By focusing directly on Christ and His teachings, meditation integrates the spiritual with the mental, fostering an awareness of God's constant presence and love. Through this practice, Jenn has found tools for coping with life's unpredictabilities. Through her book “Present in Prayer,” Jenn Tucker invites us into the practice of Lectio Divina, a historic form of Christian meditation comprising five steps: Silence, Prayer, Reading, Meditation, and Incarnation. She stresses the importance of silence and prayer in preparing the heart to meet God, guiding readers through various meditation practices designed to enrich their communion with God. This structured approach enables individuals to internalize Scripture more deeply, fostering spiritual growth and resilience. MORE ABOUT PRESENT IN PRAYER Jennifer “Jenn” Tucker knows what anxiety feels like. In her bestselling book, Breath as Prayer: Calm Your Anxiety, Focus Your Mind, and Renew Your Soul, Jenn shared the powerful practice of Christian breath prayer, a simple and approachable tool for battling her depression, stress, and anxiety. Now, in Present in Prayer: A Guided Invitation to Peace Through Biblical Meditation, Jenn explores the redemptive power of the centuries-old practice of Christian meditation. Present in Prayer offers a simple yet profound guide to Christian meditation, a practice with the capacity to rewire the neural pathways in the brain, creating new connections and changing the way we think and how we regulate our emotions for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, using the ancient monastic framework of lectio divina. Present in Prayer features 30 mediations, each with a gentle call to silence, an opening prayer, and a thoughtful reflection on a Bible verse; guided meditation on Scripture; a prayer of surrender and prompts for how to live out the truths God is speaking; and inspired art. “Christian meditation has been profoundly helpful to me personally,” said Jenn. “Learning to find this quiet time to commune with God has helped grow my faith and strengthened my mental and spiritual health, drawing me nearer to God, helping me change unhelpful and negative thought patterns, and easing the physical and mental symptoms of anxiety and stress.” With Jenn Tucker's Present in Prayer, cultivate a more purposeful and peaceful prayer life and greater intimacy with God as you focus your thoughts on His Word. Jennifer Tucker is bestselling author, artist, graphic designer, wife, mother, grandmother, devoted follower of Jesus, and advocate for mental health. She shares her heart and art online at littlehousestudio.net. Jenn is the author of Breath as Prayer: Calm Your Anxiety, Focus Your Mind, and Renew Your Soul. Act of Worship

Time and space are steadfastly linked to Christian worship because time and space are the most evident tools utilized in worship gatherings.[1] The time and space of worship gatherings are critical.[2] Time and space are human elements but elements which God created. Therefore, not only is human understanding limited but believers worship a God not bound by the two elements. God's worthiness, as much as may be attempted, is impossible to describe because he exists outside of time and space. Since God is not bound by time and space, he is infinitely worthy. For him to be bound by anyone or anything would be for him to not be God. God, however, transcends time and space. In fact, he governs the two. Moreover, God has created time and space and uses it as a part of his story. Thus, time and space are crucial elements to Christian worship. While human understanding of anything is finite, believers should trust God no matter their circumstances because he not only knows and understands everything, he also presides over all situations and all outcomes. Christians should take comfort in this truth and give God glory within the time and space that he has created. [1] Worship has a start time. Worship employs aesthetic elements such as music and art, which certainly engage with time and space. [2] There exists no right or wrong type of space to be used in worship, but great care should be taken to consider where God's people gather.

We are all drawn to the beauty and power of rivers, but have you ever wondered how they have changed us? Or how we have changed them? In this episode, Megan McCubbin takes us to Devon, to meet the river poet Alice Oswald by her ‘pretty little stream', the Torridge. Writers and artists through the ages have been drawn to the beauty and power of rivers, and Alice is no exception. The river was a paradise throughout her childhood; a place for skimming stones, catching (and setting-free) minnows and escaping to another reality. She believes we are drawn to the wildness and otherness, as well as to the animals and different, changing landscapes of rivers as they travel from source to sea. Paul Raven, Author of Rivers: A natural and not-so-natural history, examines the relationship between rivers and people since the ice age and shares how human actions across history have positively and negatively affected the health of our waterways and the creatures that depend on them.  Roisin Taylor, Co-Director of UK Youth 4 Nature shares the important work they are doing to redress the balance and implores us to ‘find a dipper and then you'll want to save that river.' Featuring: Alice Oswald, Paul Raven and Roisin Taylor, Presented by Megan McCubbin If this episode has inspired you to take action for wetlands or discover more about our rivers, visit wwt.org.uk. The Sacred Trinity of Consciousness, Time and Space - Gaia TV The research of Robert Lawlor reveals that basic laws of proportion and geometry that can be found in space are also reflected in time. They are seen within depictions of the sacred trinity as observed by many of the world's spiritual traditions. We will look at this trinity as consciousness, time and space. Building off of this, we explore sacred proportions, like the golden mean, found within the cyclical nature of time expressed in the Yuga system, as described in ancient Puranic texts.

Transcript:Hello this is Pastor Don Willeman of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome to The Kingdom Perspective. The Bible tells us that God is a king. But not just any king. A king who is totally sovereign! Now, what do we mean by “sovereign”? All rulers have varying degrees of sovereignty. The greater the sovereignty the more freely that ruler can do as they please. Well, God is a sovereign ruler like no other. Why? The opening line of Genesis, the very first book of the Bible, tells us that God created the heavens and the earth…out of nothing. He spoke everything into existence! From bats to butterflies, stars to galaxies, even time and space itself is all an act of unimaginable sovereignty. There have been a lot of powerful kings in the history of the world, but none that had the power to call entire universes into existence. But this is exactly what God, the Creator, has done! He is a ruler like no other. Now, this fact has some incredible implications. For example, this means that whatever God decrees or wills—whatever He chooses to accomplish—will happen. He doesn't need to get permission from some higher authority. He doesn't even need to work around the laws of nature. He made the laws of the nature!!! And He certainly doesn't need to get your permission. He made you! This means that every act of creation (calling into existence that which does not exist) and every act of God guiding and providing for His creation (what the theologians call “providence”) will work to accomplish exactly what He wills. It is for this reason that we can be assured that “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. Psalm 33 (ESV) 1 Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!   Praise befits the upright.2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;   make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!3 Sing to him a new song;   play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. 4 For the word of the Lord is upright,   and all his work is done in faithfulness.5 He loves righteousness and justice;   the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,   and by the breath of his mouth all their host.7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;   he puts the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;   let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!9 For he spoke, and it came to be;   he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;   he frustrates the plans of the peoples.11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,   the plans of his heart to all generations.12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,   the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! *Below, we are appending some basic catechism questions that go along with this Kingdom Perspective. A catechism is a classical Christian teaching device, helping both children and adults better understand the unique claims of the Bible. Below, you will find questions taken from both a children's catechism and a more advanced catechism. For the full catechisms, you may go to our website by clicking here. An Advanced Catechism3. What are the decrees of God? The decrees of God are His eternal purpose according to the counsel of His own will, in which for His own glory He has foreordained whatever comes to pass. (Eph 1:11,12) 4. How does God execute His decrees? God executes His decrees in the works of creation, (Re 4:11) and providence (Da 4:35) to teach His creatures the good news of Jesus Christ.

Many parents with young children are asking themselves what the future looks like for their kids and what they need to do to prepare them. Some prospective parents are wondering if they should even be having kids at all. Claire Wahmanholm takes on these questions in her fourth book of poetry, “Meltwater,” a collection focused on the climate crisis through the lens of glacial meltwater and parenthood.
