Masters of The Universe (1987) is the ultimate 80s movie debate. Is it a sci-fi epic, or is it a glorious, awesomely bad disaster? Let's find out. When Mattel teamed up with Cannon Films—a studio legendary for running on sheer sweat, blood, and wild choices—to bring He-Man to the big screen, the results were unforgettable. In this episode, the Cinema Psychos are joined by Justin from Epic Film Guys to dissect a film that completely chose its own path We break down how a $22 million budget led the filmmakers to abandon Eternia for Earth, why Dolph Lundgren's live-action debut remains iconic, and how Frank Langella's legendary, scene-stealing performance as Skeletor single-handedly carried the movie. From Star Wars influences to Gwildor's strange obsession with Earthly fried chicken, we leave no stone unturned in this retro movie deep dive.

After an almost 2 year hiatus, In Search of the Crystal Skull is back! Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2026 live action film Masters of the Universe based on the 1983 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Taken place in the world of Eternia, a timid boy named Prince Adam was tasked of protecting The Sword of Power and heading to Earth for safety after an evil sorcerer named Skeletor threatens to conquer everything and stealing the sword to make him more powerful. However, he lost the sword and was stuck on Earth for 15 years living a mundane life. One day, someone found the sword and Adam retrieves it. Immediately afterwards, his childhood friend Teela from Eternia returns him home only to learn that Skeletor has taken over everything. When the film premiered in theaters, it received mixed reviews from critics and fans. It was a box office bomb making $102 million dollars out of a $200 million dollar budget and is currently 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film?

Good journey, Down to Watch listeners, and pew pew to you, we watched 1987's The Masters of the Universe. Dan and Raul have not the just the power but also the opinions regarding the first time He-Man arrived on the silver screens. As the 21st century deploys it's version into theaters, the DtW crew wants to know what happened when Teela and Man-at-Arms were chased by Skeletor from expensive looking Eternia to much more easily filmed Whittier, California. Did Dolph Lundgren and a first time Courtney Cox make history with a StarWarsian, Conan-esque laser barbarian tale or does this movie belong in the cult bin, or worse!?! Listen up, find out if heroism is as lonely as villainy!

[School of Movies 2026] This is a fun one. Statistically speaking if you're under the age of 45 you didn't go and see this summer blockbuster funded by Amazon. When you think about it, this probably should have been made in the late 2000s, just after Michael Bay's immensely successful Transformers, and notably around the time they started planning the movie anyway. Instead it has taken another twenty years to hit the big screen and now faces relevance to only late Gen Xers like Sharon and I. The film, directed by Bumblebee and Kubo second-stringer Travis Knight is an enjoyable MESS! It does have heart, and an adorable softboy lead who seems to have understood the assignment. It's a higgledy-piggledy remix of all four Thor movies, with traces of sixteen unfinished scripts floating around, and yet somehow Jared Leto manages to be entertaining for once in his life. Sharon is our audience surrogate as I take you all by the hand and lead you through Eternia. This is one to listen to, even (especially) if you haven't seen it. After nearly two decades of development hell across Warner Bros., Sony, and Netflix, the film finally landed on Amazon Studios—but does Masters of the Universe live up to the hype and legacy? This week on The Commentary Booth, host Jamie Apps is joined by Todd Eastman to dive deep into Amazon's ambitious live-action adaptation of the iconic Mattel franchise. Whether you're a lifelong He-Man fan who grew up with the original 1980s cartoon or someone discovering Eternia for the very first time, this episode breaks down everything you need to know about one of 2026's most surprising blockbuster releases.Todd brings decades of nostalgia and firsthand memories of growing up with He-Man, Battle Cat, Skeletor and the original toy line, while Jamie approaches the film from the perspective of a complete newcomer. Together we explore whether the film successfully balances fan service with accessibility, and why its commitment to embracing the colourful, campy spirit of the source material may be its greatest strength.Highlights Breakdown: - Faithful or Forgettable? The Character Designs - Nicholas Galitzine's performance as Prince Adam and He-Man - Jared Leto's surprising transformation into Skeletor - The Supporting Cast Nobody Expected - The Tone Question - 19 Years in Development - Box Office vs. Streaming Reality - Breaking down the post-credit scenes - Can the franchise survive despite a disappointing box office performance?Along the way, Jamie and Todd debate whether the film leans too heavily into comedy, examine the challenges facing modern blockbuster cinema in the streaming era, and discuss why Masters of the Universe may ultimately find its audience long after leaving theatres. If you've ever shouted "By the Power of Grayskull!" or you're simply curious whether this nostalgic revival deserves your attention, this episode has you covered. This week's episode is brought to you byAustralian Wrestling CardsCheck out more great content from Pario Magazine on our website.-------------------------------------------------------------SUPPORT PARIO MAGAZINE & THE COMMENTARY BOOTH- PATREON- BUY MERCH- AMAZON PRIME VIDEO- TUBEBUDDY- Subscribe to AEW Plus using my code (q0yydoz) to earn $10 in FITE credit- Shop Online With Honey- Shop Online With SatechiMY EQUIPMENT- Elgato Facecam- Rode PodMic- Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP- Streamlabs Talk StudioFOLLOW JAMIE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram- TikTokFOLLOW PARIO MAGAZINE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram

Send us Fan MailWelcome to our 121st episode of the Triple FFF and our early summer confab about two big Hollywood tentpole entries that crashed and burned miserably at the box office in the wake of Gen Z's love affair with indie influencer horror to the point where Gen X has to face the facts and realize our day of IP dominance is over,  we're talking about 2026's Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu directed by Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal, Martin Scorcese, Jeremy Allen White and Sigourney Weaver along with Masters of The Universe, directed by Travis Knight and starring Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendez, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley and Jared Leto.  Back again for more is Mr. 80's Showbiz Trivia himself, Dr. David Johnson, DMD.  Before we let these critical fists fly in a flurry of thunder punches, the synopses: In The Mandalorian and Grogu, ace bounty hunter Din Djarin and his adorable little green pal Grogu team up with the New Republic for a dangerous mission: deliver Rotta the Hutt, the kidnapped son of Jabba the Hutt, back to his ruthless gangster relatives known only as the Twins. In exchange, the Republic will get critical intel on the whereabouts of several high-ranking Imperial loyalists, still on the run. In Masters of the Universe, the evil Skeletor seizes control of the planet Eternia and enslaves Prince Adam's royal parents, forcing the young noble into exile on Earth. Stuck living as a regular human in a soul-crushing and emasculating human resources job for a nameless corporation, Adam quietly yearns for the adventure and heroics he was born for. When Eternian warrior princess Teela shows up on Earth chased by Skeletor's mindless henchman Beast Man, Adam finally gets his chance — he returns home with Teela to confront Skeletor and the forces of darkness and to claim his destiny as the most powerful being in the universe… He-Man.  Are these two phenomenal failures actually fabulous?   Find out! Watch the video podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/7DcNzDMNfko

We break down what makes it click emotionally, from pure 80s nostalgia to the simple thrill of watching Prince Adam grow into power without the story feeling weirdly ashamed of its own fantasy roots. We dig into the big choices that define this reboot: Nicholas Galitzine's take on Prince Adam and He-Man, Idris Elba stepping into Man-At-Arms, and why Jared Leto's Skeletor is the surprise win. We also get specific about what the movie nails for longtime fans, including the tone that keeps the humor alive, the fight choreography that finally lets He-Man feel unstoppable, and the visuals of Eternia that feel bold, magical, and cinematic. Then we're honest about what we still wanted more of, like Orko, Cringer and a real Battle Cat transformation, plus the classic secret identity tension.Halfway through, the conversation swerves into politics with the Los Angeles mayoral primary and the math behind why certain outcomes are predictable, followed by the familiar “rigged election” storyline and the facts about mail-in ballots that keep getting ignored. We close with a “pulling a thread” rapid-fire grab bag from the Threads app, plus a real-life moment about raising a toddler and paying $250 a week for daycare.Subscribe for more sharp takes, share this with a friend who loves pop culture and politics, and leave a review if the show made you laugh or think.

This week on Fantastic Forum, we are diving into two iconic heroes reimagined for a new era of fantasy and noir storytelling. First up is Masters of the Universe, the highly anticipated live action adaptation bringing Eternia back to the big screen. With Nicholas Galitzine starring as He-Man alongside Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, and Jared Leto as Skeletor, the film aims to reintroduce the legendary battle between good and evil with massive action, mythology, and cosmic fantasy. We are breaking down the cast, the world building, and whether this new take can finally deliver the definitive Masters of the Universe movie fans have been waiting for. Then we turn to Spider-Noir on Amazon Prime, starring Nicolas Cage as an aging private investigator version of Spider-Man navigating a dark and dangerous 1930s New York City. Inspired by the Marvel Noir comics, the series blends superhero storytelling with hard-boiled detective fiction, shadowy conspiracies, and stylized pulp action. With Cage stepping back into the role after Into the Spider-Verse, we are discussing whether this noir-driven take on Spider-Man stands out as one of Marvel's most unique live action projects yet. Masters of the Universe (2026) | Flash Gordon Meets The Office (We Mean That as a Compliment)It's not a good movie. It is, however, a great time — and Cupcake and WillDaBeast are ready to make the case.Travis Knight's Masters of the Universe has everything: a jacked Nicholas Galitzine, a scenery-devouring Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie going full Evil-Lyn, and a tone so chaotic it somehow circles back around to charming. Cupcake and WillDaBeast dig into what works (almost everything once they hit Eternia), what doesn't (that 30-minute prologue needs to go), and why this film is the Madame Web of the summer — in the best possible way.- - - - - - - - - -WE ARE WATCH SKIP PLUS!FOLLOW/LIKE/SUBSCRIBE/REVIEW/LOVEEmail us: WatchSkipPlus@gmail.comBe kind. The Fork In Your Ear Ep#215 Eternia of Games! - Podcast Show Notes Summary 6-13-26 Gaming News – Oops All Games Edition! Tim and Nate kick off with an "oops all games" episode packed wall-to-wall with fresh showcases. They open with the Xbox Games Showcase (June 7). Tim watched with Jessica while making breakfast; Nate and Cara ran it live in the Discord. Key highlights: Gears of War: E-Day (Oct 6, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Game Pass day one, Unreal Engine 5 built from the ground up by The Coalition). The prequel Emergence Day story stars Marcus and Dom. The Coalition's deep Unreal expertise and "from-scratch" approach have everyone hyped for performance and visuals. Tim and Nate debate third-person cover shooters (Nate's not a fan of the mechanic; Tim loves the destroyed world, underground critters, and chainsaw guns). Fable – New cinematic trailer confirms Haley Atwell (Agent Carter) as the long-teased villain Isabel. Jack of Blades gets a surprise tease, hinting at multiple villains. A 30-minute full gameplay video dropped days later showing a talking pig quest, romance options, UI, and systems in action. Delayed to February 23, 2027 (Xbox, PC, Game Pass, and still coming to PS5) to polish and avoid GTA 6. Tim is very excited; Nate is cautiously optimistic but holding judgment on open-world RPG scope. Halo: Campaign Evolved (July 28, Xbox, PC, PS5, Game Pass) – UE5 remake of Halo 1 with core Blam engine (physics/game logic pulled from Halo: Reach) for that authentic "spongy" feel. New Sergeant Johnson voice actor, prequel missions (Assault on the Control Room & Silent Cartographer) locked behind the main campaign, vehicle jacking, new weapons (energy sword, fuel rod, brute spiker), sprint, clambering, 40+ skulls, and a "Remix Mode" for wild enemy swaps/randomization. 4-player co-op (local split-screen + online). Previews are extremely positive; limited collector's editions sold out fast. Tim is all-in on the respectful-yet-improved remake treatment and wants to share it with new players. Other Xbox news: Persona 6 trailer reactions (mixed/underwhelmed), new Spyro game from Toys for Bob (Tom Kenny returning as Spyro, Dragonflight mechanics), Clockwork Revolution (InXile steampunk RPG, Xbox ecosystem exclusive vibes), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-era title getting Unreal Engine help from The Coalition + Grounded-style cross-world system, new dark Metro game from the Ukrainian team (still developing in wartime conditions), Resonance (Plague Tale legacy?), Minecraft Dungeons 2, new Senua Hellblade-universe action game (Nate loved the first, mixed on the second; Tim was never a fan but this one looks more classic Ninja Theory), Crazy Taxi World Tour (2027, pure arcade nostalgia), and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse (Oct 15 – Tim is already hooked into his veins; Switch 2 version delayed, which upsets him).

"I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull." We watched "Masters of the Universe" (2026), directed by Travis Knight, and yes, we have the power. Although this movie may have been made for a very niche audience, if you let your guard down, you might just have some fun. This production was a long time in the making, plagued by changes in the cast, directors, and studios, but the final product was worth the wait. Nicholas Galitzine shines as Prince Adam, the muscle bound Eterian hero banished to Earth, yearning for his fantastical home. All of us little gay boys knew the feeling of not belonging here! As hard a pill it may be to swallow, we can also report that the legendary b*ner k*ller, Jared Leto, is doing some fine work as Skeletor. He pines after He-Man, trapped in a homoerotic dance that our audience loved, and showcased some actual comedic timing. The supporting cast was fierce, the costumes were on point, and the cameos were plentiful. Overall, it's… not bad. Marko briefly considers escaping with Cat, but abandons the idea due to his symptoms worsening further. Ben later confronts Cat at Penn Station as she tries to flee, but Winston captures them. The metahuman is a man named Dirk Leyden, a criminal with the ability to absorb and release electricity. By The Power of Grayskull.....For the first time in thirty-nine years, He-Man and the other Masters of the Universe are back on the big screen!  After being sent to Earth as a young boy more than fifteen years ago to hide him from the evil Skeletor (Oscar-winner Jared Leto), Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) has finally found his sword and is returning to his homeland of Eternia to reclaim his legacy.  Of course, it gets more complicated than that as not only has much of Eternia (including Castle Grayskull where he's from) been decimated and taken over by Skeletor and his minions but Adam has to figure out HOW to use the sword and become the hero he was always meant to be.....He-Man. ;) Oscar-nominated filmmaker Travis Knight (Kubo & the Two Strings, Coraline, Bumblebee) directs this modernized adaptation of the He-Man legend which originated on a popular animated show in the '80's.  Also included in the cast are Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, among several others.....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us Fan MailSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

This week on the House of Gozer Podcast, we review two of the biggest genre releases so far this year: The Mandalorian and Grogu and Masters of the Universe. Star Wars' first theatrical release in seven years. Was The Mandalorian and Grogu the spark the franchise needed, or just another reminder that Star Wars no longer gets a free pass? Then we grab the Power Sword and head to Eternia for a deep dive into Masters of the Universe. Is it fun and fantasy for the whole family or just 2 hours of meaningless fan service? That's a much more complicated conversation. The good, the bad, and the downright painful as we ask whether nostalgia is helping these franchises evolve… or just holding them back. Plus news, including Zack Snyder heading to New York for a remake, the return of Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 and more this week on the House of Gozer Podcast.
