In this show I interview people that I believe have accomplished a lot and overcame a lot in the process to get to where they are today. Everyone on this show embodies 2 things, Chasing Discomfort and Be Kind. CHASING DISCOMFORT is pushing your self to be better each day by challenging yourself to do something that makes you uncomfortable. BE KIND is exactly what it says, being a kind human being. These people on the show are constantly pushing themselves to be uncomfortable and at the same time are some of the kindest people you will meet.
This episode is all about self belief. Without it, you have no shot of achieving what you want out of your life. All of us go through times of self doubt and question ourselves. This is why it's so important to do the little things every day that help keep you in a good headspace and also why it's so important to surround yourself with the right people.
Chase Discomfort means too push yourself to be uncomfortable. This is the only way to grow comes from. In this episode I discuss the importance of pushing yourself to be uncomfortable every day! This can come from working out, waking up earlier, changing your nutrition, reading a book and in so many more ways. It's all about doing the little things each day that in most cases you don't want to do.
Another amazing podcast with my boy Isaiah Hoyt . We covered so many great topics today from posting content on social, creating a growth mindset, building discipline, motivation, taking control of your life and finally perspective! Give this a listen! You will not regret it!
This was an incredible episode on all levels! Isaiah has incredible energy like very few people and you can't help but be hyped up talking to him. We covered so many topics from what he is up to with his new YouTube channel, his StayFit brand, and his 12 week cut. I had a blast catching up with my friend Matt Ferrara yesterday. He is someone that I've know for about 7 years. Matt is a great coach and even a better person that is in the fitness industry for the right reasons. He puts his clients first and really wants to make an impact in people's lives. He is a Strength & Conditioning coach with a Bachelors in Exercise Science. He also is a massive dog lover. How can you not like the guy! With all that being said, I really think you will enjoy this interview and learn something along the way.
It was a blast having Nunshel back on the show! We always have great conversations so we thought it be fun to jump on and record another. If you didnt catch the first interview with him, He is the founder of Stamina and a Personal Trainer. Over the past 4 years I have watched him grow so much and its inspiring to watch him work. I highly recommend giving this a listen.
What's Your Story? Episode #32 Chad Abatiell I had a blast talking with my buddy Chad again. We could talk for days about bodybuilding but we took this one in a little bit of a different direct. We went over the mindset of a bodybuilder, dating a bodybuilder, depression, suicide and eating disorders. I highly recommend giving this a listen. More people are stuggling now then ever and I think this can be helpful for people that are struggling or just being aware of things that comepete in bodybuilding go through.
Kenny and I met back at Fitness Together in 2016. From day one, I saw that Kenny had a passion for coaching and helping people. Growing up Kenny wasn't your typical athlete. He actually got into fitness because he was overweight and wanted to feel better about himself. This began his passion for fitness which led him to go to college and graduate with his Bachelors in Exercise Science. Today Kenny is running is own coaching company called Unrivaled Performance am working with all kinds of people. If your looking for someone with a incredible positive out look on life, I highly recommend giving this a listen.
It was so nice catching up with my friend Isaiah. We met back when we both were competing in bodybuilding. We competed against each other in the same show back in 2016 and also were both working at Equinox at that time. Isaiah is someone that has always had a passion for fitness and truly got into it for the right reason. As he became a coach you could tell how much he loved helping people reach their own personal goals. As the years went on, Isaiah realized he wanted to go slightly in a different direction and became a Children's Ministry Leader and is directly impacting so many kids lives on a day to day basis. Isaiah is also a rapper and writer. He even opened up for Post Malone and Loyd Banks at one point! To say the least Isaiah is a very motivated and inspiring person that I highly recommend following and getting to know!
I had a blast catching up with my friend Nick. I was always inspired by Nick because of his work ethic and his goal to the best coach he can be. Nick at a young age started to ride BMX and as the years went he turned pro. This is when Nick really started to find a passion for training. A lot of people wanted a car, Nick wanted training sessions. Any opportunity he got he was training to be better. As he continued to race he had a few bad injuries which were huge set backs for him. At the age of 23 he made the decision to stop riding and put his focus into going to school to be coach and work with all kinds of athletes. Nick attended Springfield College and graduated with a Exercise Science Degree. He then interned with the Siena College, Brooklyn nets, EXOS, and was a Grad assistant at Merrimack college. Nick went on to work at Parsi Speed School, University of Maine Peak Fitness, EXOS, and now the Air Force. To say the least Nick is determined to learn as much as he can and help anyone he can. Nick has an amazing story that I highly recommend listening to if you are looking for some inspiration and if you want to pursue working with athletes.
I want to thank my friend Jack Pinho for coming on the show. Jack is one of the most hard working people I know and it was amazing catching up with him. In this interview we did a deep dive into Jacks running career and the mindset it takes to do what he does. For those of you that don't know, Jack broke multiple Springfield College records from the Indoor 800M, Indoor 1000M, Indoor 1 Mile, Outdoor 800M, and Outdoor 1500M. He then went on to be a 2 time ALL AMERICAN! The crazy part of this is that he was a walk on. He wasn't recruited to run for Springfield. Jack simply put his head down, stayed humble and put in the work. I was lucky enough to be a fellow RA with him at Springfield and see him start his journey and running career. While at Springfield College Jack completed a Bachelors in Physical Education and a Masters in Athletic Administration. After graduating he still continues to run and is determined to break the 4:00 minute mile. In his last event he ran a 4:03 and I have no doubt he will break that 4 minute time. I highly recommend listening this this interview. We dive deep into the mindset it took to get to the point, the training, and so much more. Here are Jacks records that still hold today at Springfield College. 5 x School Record Holder Indoor 800M - 1:52.11 Indoor 1000M - 2:25.09 Indoor 1 Mile - 4:07.89 Outdoor 800M - 1:52.48 Outdoor 1500M - 3:47.90 2 x All-American - 1 Mile & 1500M Cross Country - 2 x NEWMAC All-Conference 1 x All-New England
I had the pleasure of interviewing Nikki Alliegro this past week. She is someone that has really put her stamp in the fitness industry. Her story is amazing one that I think a lot of people can take a lot from. She was competitive at a young age and had a passion for sports. In college she pursued broadcasting and ended up getting a opportunity with Disney. After years of working with Disney Nikki decided to pursue a career in health and fitness. She took a opportunity at a high end gym called Equinox in Boston and learned a lot but realized that she wanted to work for herself and have her own business. Nikki went on to open her own gym which was aways a dream of hers. After a while of running the gym she decided that owning her own gym wasn't what she thought it was going to be. It was a very tough choice but she decided to close the gym and focus on her coaching. It could of been a low point but she turned it into a high point. Nikki since then has built a very successful in person and online coaching buisness. She coaches her clients on lifestyle, general fitness, bodybuilding prep and athletics. Nikki has also competed as a Pro Bikini Athlete, Wellness NPC Athlete, is an Author, and a Fitness Cover Model. She is a very motivating and inspiring women that is continuing to push her her self to be better everyday. Here is a quote from Nikki. "I absolutely love what I do in helping people find their true happiness and health. My goal is to coach others to their best physique without them sacrificing seeing the world and spending time with loved ones."
This was a awesome interview with my friend CJ. He has been mentioned multiple times on the show from other people which just shows the respect that people have for him. CJ and I met at Springfield College and bonded over training. Over the years he has grown to be a high level Strength and Condition Coach that did a internship at Harvard University, College of Holy Cross and Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning. He went on to work at MBSC, Malden Catholic High School, and now is currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Groton School. CJ has always had a passion for helping people and athletics and in a short period of time has already made his mark in the Strength and Conditioning Field.
I had a blast interviewing Alex and learned a lot about him. Alex was a shy kid that went through foster care and at one point was homeless. Simply said, he has over come so much in his life and continues to push himself to be better each day. As he entered high school he started to open up and played football. This was the beginning of his love for sports. Through sports he started to fall in love with working out and even talks about wanting to look like wolverine. As high school ended he continued to grow as a person and spontaneously decided to join the military. Shockingly enough it ended up being the perfect fit for him. After the military he decided to go to Springfield College which for him instantly felt like home. He then went on to join the track team and finish his degree at Springfield. During the years he switched his major a few times but after graduating found that he truly had a passion for coaching and that was the direction he wanted to go into. Alex now is pursuing his Masters Degree and continuing to push himself to be better everyday and doing it with a incredibly positive mindset. I highly recommend listening this podcast. It's truly inspiring.
It was nice to reconnect with my friend Zach and talk to him about his journey to get to where he is today. From making it through boot camp for the US military to building an established career in the fitness industry at Equinox, Zack talks about his journey to becoming a respected fitness professional without having an exercise science degree. He emphasizes how to remain goal oriented and focused each day and how the knowledge that he has accumulated has helped him improve the lives of his clients. If you want to reach out to Zack personally you can text him at 774-258-1419 or email him at 12grayzz@gmail.com
What's going on everyone! So, I switched it up for this interview and I told my story! It was a blast honestly to just reflect and talk about my journey and how it got me to where I am today. I talk about how I got started into fitness and why it changed my life. I talk about my journey through school and how I balanced competing in bodybuilding. This leads me to graduating and moving to Boston which was a wild ride. From biking everywhere and working crazy hours and finally winning my pro card. I discuss my jobs out in Boston and what leads me back to Connecticut and where I am today. It has been a wild ride with lots of challenges but the one thing that I truly believe is that my positivity and willingness to always be better has allowed me to keep moving forward and chase down my dreams.
I want to thank my friend Adam Salvatore for coming on the show! Like many of my guests I meant Adam at Springfield College. I instantly connected with Adam because of his incredible energy. The Springfield trend continues! I want to thank Dustin Wilson for coming on the show! I met Dustin back at Springfield when I was a Junior and he was a freshman. I thought it would be great to have Dustin on because we had a similar mindset when it came to training. We LOVED the deadlift and lifting heavy weights. It was a constant push for me each day and its something that i truly miss. There was nothing like the Springfield College gym. We had so many strong guys which let to an amazing atmosphere. Dustin did his Bachelors in Sports Biology and is in the process of finishing his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Sacred Heart. He has always had a passion for football and looks to play on the Sacred Heart Team this year. He is someone that is very driven and I truly believe he hasn't even started to tap in to what he is capable of. Dustin has big things coming and is going to help and impact a lot of peoples lives with the years to come.
It was so nice catching up with Mike. Mike and I went to school at Springfield College at the same time and connected over weightlifting. Hes competed or trained in so many different ways. From power lifting, strongman, crossfit, jujitsu and the list goes on. He then spent time at Beth Israel Hospital and a Physiologist which he got to help all kinds of people and ages. From the day I met him. I could tell he was a very driven person that is always trying to get better each day. Today Mike is an Army Performance Coach where he truly gets to really put his passion to the test when it comes to impacting others peoples lives not only physically but mentally. He is someone that truly believes in being kind and puts everyone first. This is an amazing listen that really digs deep on the impact of your mindset and how much you are capable of it you allow yourself to tap into your true potential.
I was lucky enough to have the chance to interview Meagen Harriman this past week. She is someone that I have been following on Instagram for a while now and I have seen her go from working a full time job for someone else to running her own very successful online coaching business. Meagen is someone that has always followed her heart and her dreams. She is helping people every day build confidence, find themselves, and teaching them how to build there own businesses. Meagen started off going to school for nutrition with the goal to educate her self a bit more. Along the way she continued to grow a passion for fitness and health. After school she worked as a holistic nutritionist but pretty quickly she realized she wanted to do something on her own and help people how she believed was best. This lead her to start and grow a very successful fitness coaching business. The big change for her happened after her bodybuilding show. She started to fall out of love with fitness and second guessed what she was doing. This is when she started to focus on her health. She started to transition from fitness coaching to teaching people how build there own successful business. After putting a lot of work in, she now has a booming online social media coaching business focused towards women and helping them grown not only mentally and physically but to teach them how to build there brand along the way.
I met Alejanda back in 2016 at Lifetime Fitness in Chestnut Hill Ma. She graduated from Boston College with a B.S. in Psychology and concentration in Neuroscience and is Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach. She then went on to become a Personal Training Manager with Lifetime Fitness which allowed her to make a larger impact with the trainers and clients. Alejandra is someone that is very passionate about what she does. You can see it from the energy she brings from a day to day basis and the response that she gets from her clients. I highly recommend giving this a listen if your a coach just starting or someone that has stalled out and needs a push to get back on track with your training.
It was really nice catching up with Jon this past week! Jon and I met back at Springfield College through our passion for bodybuilding. While being a freshman at SC Jon created a product which came to be know now as BlendiBlender. This idea stemmed from his love for bodybuilding. He found himself making a protein shake after each workout but always had trouble with your traditional shaker bottle. The protein powder would never mix smoothly but one day it clicked and Blendi was born. Jon graduated from Springfield College with a Business Degree and balances working full time and working on Blendi. He is someone that at a young age has already accomplished a lot. I urge you to give him a listen if you are someone that is looking to start your own company or is curious of what it takes to run your own business.
I was very excited to have my friend Connor on the show! He Skyped in all the way from PE, Canada! Connor is a WNBF Pro Bodybuilder, Physique Coach and the host Natty Muscle Radio. We started talking back in 2015/2016 when I was competing for my pro card. It was a blast having Sama on the show! Sama originally went to school to study architecture but after a few years found a passion for fitness which led her to become a certified personal trainer in Tehran, Iran, in 2011. During her time in Iran, She worked as a personal trainer and fitness manager. Sama studied many different courses and obtained plethora of fitness and bodybuilding certifications from Iran National Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation. She believes in helping people to find their best shape, as well as improving their lifestyle to a healthy way of life. In March 2016, Sama immigrated to the U.S., a paradise for fitness and bodybuilding professionals, to follow up my big dreams. After her arrival, she soon realized the crucial nation-wide need to promote a healthier lifestyle, more physical activity and better nutrition habits in America, and she decided to dedicate my life to this important goal. In spring 2017, Sama received a job offer from one of the greatest fitness clubs of the country, Life Time Fitness, at their very brand-new luxury health club and gym in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. In fall 2017, Sama also got an offer from the well-known worldwide fitness equipment manufacturer, called “Technogym”, to be their Master Trainer, and I've been doing this along my career at Life Time, since then. I could go on and on about her accomplishments over the past 9 years but I think the most impressive thing about her is her mindset. She is so positive and inspiring. Whether ts the content shes posting on her Instagram page or when shes training her clients at Lifetime, she is someone that is making the fitness industry and world a better place.I highly recommend checking her out.
I have to say, this is one of my favorite humans I know. He has inspired me from day one. I met Lu at Springfield College back in 2015 and from the first day I met him he has been nothing but supportive and positive in every way possible. Lu was born with cerebral palsy but to him it is the norm and he wouldn't want you to look at him any differently Growing up he grew a passion for wrestling. In high school he became the team manager but he knew he was meant to be on the mat. He then made the choice to go to Springfield College which allowed him to further pursue his career and give him a chance to compete on the mat like he always wanted. Lu has competed in over 20 matches but has yet to get that win he has always wanted but if you ask him, your only going to hear him talk about his next match and that big win. You can't break this kid. I truly admire his mindset. He is beloved around that Springfield campus and everywhere he goes. Lu went on to study Health Education in his undergrad and then did a Masters in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. He is a inspiration for anyone and I cant wait to see what his future holds.
I've been through a lot with this guy. He has been a friend of mine for the past 10 years. We both have seen each other at our highs and our lows. Todd has had 2 major back surgeries including a spinal fusion, but that didn't stop him. He's went on to build a successful business and believe it or not deadlift over 300lbs. Todd has been in the fitness industry for 20 years. He is a strength and conditioning coach and the Owner Of MVP Strength Camp. He also fought as a professional MMA fighter. He is someone that inspires me every day because of his never give up mentality. I highly recommend giving this a listen.
was super excited to have my cousin Mariana on the show. Mariana is someone I became very close to over the past 5 years. She is a Ace Certified Personal Training that coaches clients of all ages at Timeless Training. She also is the strength coach at Gymfest of the Berkshires where she works with gymnasts of all levels. She has an amazing story when it comes to overcoming her own internal demons. Marianna struggled with multiple eating disorders, depression and negative self talk. Which I think a lot of people can relate with. The best part of this story is that after hitting rock bottom she came back and is stronger then ever. She's now coaching, motivating, inspiring and impacting so many people's lives on a day to day basis. If you are someone that has struggled with a eating disorder or someone that struggles with something else in there life. I highly recommend giving this a listen.
We met back in 2016 and I found out very quickly Jesse had a passion for biomechanics, anatomy, physiology and it shows in the way he has trained over the past 10 years. Jesse has a Degree in Exercise Physiology and is also Certified Strength Conditioning Coach. He currently works at an incredible training facility called Train Boston. In his off time he competes in powerlifting and is on his way of competing nationally. You can't help but be inspired by his Instagram. His work ethic is slim to none. Please give this a watch. You won't regret it.
Here was a great interview I did with my good friend Matt Bernier. He has an Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College and now is pursuing his Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic Medicine. Matt also is a CrossFit and Weightlifting Coach and a competitive Olympic Weightlifter. When he is home Matt works at a Chiropractic Rehab/Active Care Provider. Simply said Matt is someone I highly respect and go to for advice because of his passion for what he does and his goal to help people. This is a great podcast if you have any interest in any related field I talked about above.
Phil is a Physical Therapist, Owner of Element 26, a Strength & Conditioning Coach and someone who has a passion to help better people inside and out. If your someone who is looking to start your own business or make some positive changes in your life, I highly recommend checking him and his company out!
I want to thank Matt Moulton for coming on the show today! I think he is someone that a lot of you will relate with on many levels. Matt was organically born in Romainia and was adopted at a young age. Knowing him like I do, he I can say is one of the most loving human beings I have ever got to know. He has passion for music and at a young age got into running. He ran on and off but never put all the pieces together when it came to improving his overall fitness level. Over the past year he has dropped over 50lbs by improving his nutrition, increasing his activity and is now planning to do his first marathon this year. I think he is a great example that if you are willing to put in the work that you can do whatever you put your mind to.
I loved talking with my boy Nick Hadge! Nick was the former Junior World Strongest Man and has been competing in Strongman all around the world. He co-started a company called The Performance Vibe that educates and trains a wide range of people and athletes. He is one of the most positive and genuine people I have ever met. I'll never forget back in 2016 when we worked together at Equinox. I was competing for my Bodybuilding Pro Card while Nick was training for Junior World Strongest Man which we both ended up winning. The point is that he was a huge support system and pushed me to be the best I could be while he had already so much on his shoulders. He's just someone you will want to get to know. I hope you enjoy Nicks story.
Grateful to have Andy Triana take the time to do a interview with me. Andy is the owner of The Performance Vibe, Allostatic Labs, a competitive strongman, contributor to Muscle & Fitness, and considers him self a Human Performance Theorist. This just touches the surface of the things he's doing. I met Andy back in at Springfield College where it didn't take long to realize his passion for exercise and exercise physiology. For the past 7-8 years he's found a passion for strongman and has competed in 40 different competitions. The crazy part is he is only 25 years old. He also coaches some of the best strongman and strength athletes around the world. Simply said, if you are passionate about strength training in any form, Andy is a person you have to get to know. Highly recommend listening to this interview.
It was really nice having Morgan on yesterday. She is someone I originally met 3 or 4 years ago in fitness. She at that time was in prep for her first bikini competition But as I got to know her a bit more I learned that she struggled with a eating disorder in her past. Through a lot of work, she took the steps to improve her health and get to where she has today. Morgan also wrote a book at 16 telling her story called Somber Suffocation. She speaks at schools telling her story and now officially just took a job as a eating disorder counselor in Philadelphia. She is someone I would highly recommend on reaching out to if you are struggling or even just have a question.
I interviewed my good friend Nunshel Thys. He is a very positive guy who has over come a lot to get to where he has today. He lived in Haiti at the time of the earthquake and moved from Haiti to the US is 2010. He then overcame the language barrier, went to school for business, started his own brand and has the goal to impact every person he comes in touch with. He loves running, fitness and has a goal to run his first marathon soon. He is still young but way ahead of the mental game and I look forward to seeing him grow.
Our first guest on is my good friend Chad Abatiell. We met at Springfield College and we're both Exercise Science students but what brought us closer was our passion for Bodybuilding. Chad went on to compete in the NPC in Bodybuilding and placed 4th in his division. He worked at LA Fitness as there PT Manager in Springfield Ma. Chad then got the opportunity to move out to Boston where he know works as a Personal Trainer at Equinox in Chestnut Hill Ma. He is someone that believes that to get better you have to constantly challenge yourself which you find out in the story's we talk about in this interview! We hope you enjoy the first interview on “What's Your Story?.
