First Timothy 2 covers prayer, leadership, church authority, modesty, and one of the most debated passages about men and women in the church. But what does this chapter actually mean for Christian fathers? In part two of our six-part series through 1 Timothy, Kent and Lawson explore how dads can study difficult Bible passages with humility, wisdom, and love. They discuss why fathers should lead through prayer, how Scripture should interpret Scripture, and why understanding context matters before forming strong conclusions. You'll also hear practical guidance for handling theological disagreements, honoring church leadership, teaching your children discernment, and modeling the biblical principle: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love." In this episode: Why Christian dads should pray for leaders—even difficult ones How to study controversial Bible passages in context What 1 Timothy 2 teaches about prayer and leadership How Scripture helps interpret Scripture How dads can model humility during theological disagreements Why your attitude toward church authority affects your children How to lead your family with truth, wisdom, and love We pray this episode will help you become a better Bible student, a more prayerful leader, and a father who handles truth without sacrificing grace. What does the book of 1 Timothy have to teach today's Christian dads? In this first episode of our new six-part series through 1 Timothy, Kent and Lawson explore Paul's opening letter to Timothy and uncover timeless principles for biblical fatherhood. Rather than getting lost in theological debates, they focus on what matters most for dads who want to lead their families with wisdom, humility, and love. You'll discover why love—not perfection—is the goal of biblical leadership, how to become a better student of God's Word, and what it means to faithfully disciple your children in a culture filled with competing voices. Whether you're a new dad or have been leading your family for decades, this conversation will encourage you to approach Scripture with confidence and lead your home with purpose. In this episode: • Why Paul wrote 1 Timothy—and why it still matters for fathers today • The biblical foundation for leading your family well • How to study the Bible without overcomplicating it • The difference between teaching information and discipling your children • Why faithful fathers don't have to be perfect—they simply need to be obedient If you're ready to become a more intentional, Christ-centered father, this series is for you. We hope you'll stick with us through the next few weeks as we discover the wisdom for dads in 1 Timothy. Want to shape the direction of the show this year? What does it take to raise children who genuinely love Jesus—even when life is busy and demanding? In this episode of Father On Purpose, Kent Evans and Lawson Brown sit down with U.S. Congressman Josh Brecheen to talk about biblical fatherhood, family discipleship, identity in Christ, and why no career is more important than leading your family well. Growing up on an Oklahoma ranch, Josh learned firsthand what it meant to work hard, honor God's Word, and build a lasting family legacy. Today, despite the demands of serving in Congress, he still prioritizes daily Bible study with his children, Scripture memory, and intentional conversations that point them to Christ. In this conversation you'll learn: • Why discipling your kids can't be outsourced to the church • How busy dads can still make meaningful time for their children • The importance of building your identity in Christ instead of your career • Practical ways to establish family Bible study and Scripture memory • Why your greatest legacy will never be your job—but your family • What Josh wishes he had done differently as a father Whether you're raising toddlers or teenagers, this episode offers practical encouragement and biblical wisdom to help you become the intentional dad God has called you to be. In our latest Your Story, Your Why feature, D.C.-based runner Lauren Waldron shares how the sport became an unshakeable contract with herself while navigating high-stress public sector roles and tumultuous personal transitions. From buying her first pair of Hoka Gaviotas to setting fierce personal guardrails—culminating in telling an unsupportive partner, "You don't deserve to be at my start line," right before her first marathon—Lauren's journey highlights the profound intersection of running, boundary-setting, and community. After overcoming patellar tendinitis and pushing through a chaotic race morning at her first World Major in Sydney, she dialed in her training with coach Andrew Lomancello to slice a massive 20 minutes off her time at the New York City Marathon just two months later. Today, whether logging early miles or analyzing footwear technology like the Mizuno Neo Vista 2, Lauren views every 4:00 AM alarm as a joint mission with her dog Henry to unapologetically chase greatness.Connect with Us:Our website: https://www.marathonjournal.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/runningpodcastYouTube: https://youtube.com/@marathonjournalFollow us on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/30798607
"It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question." — Eugene Ionesco Have you ever thought about how powerful one question can be? What is behind Designing Meaningful Connections? That question is the architecture behind every session I design, every room I facilitate, every leader I coach, and every partnership I build. It is not a method. It is a belief that the most powerful thing any leader, team, or organization can do is learn to hold the conversations that matter most. This is the work. And it is available to you. Natalie Alcantara is a Conversation Architect, Executive Coach, and Strategic Advisor who works with leaders and professionals who are ready to stop performing a life that no longer fits and start building one that is entirely their own. Natalie works across industries and continents, and her work is grounded in one belief: the right question changes everything. What if one simple shift in your language could change the direction of your life? In this episode of the Direct Selling Accelerator Podcast, I share how developing courage, confidence, and changing the way I spoke to myself changed the trajectory of my life. We dive into the power of shifting from "I will" to "I am," and why the biggest breakthroughs don't come from giant leaps, but from the small, intentional one-degree shifts we make every day. From running a half-marathon I once thought was impossible to finding the courage to write and publish my book, Show Up Anyway, I've learned that courage isn't something we're born with - it's something we build. Every time we take the next step despite fear or uncertainty, our courage grows. And as courage grows, confidence follows. Perhaps you've been carrying a big, hairy, audacious goal for a while now.. but for one reason or another you haven't fully stepped into it yet. As you listen to this episode, I hope you're encouraged, challenged, and reminded that courage isn't about having it all figured out - it's about taking the next step anyway. What does it look like to play offense as a dad? With Father's Day around the corner, Kent and Lawson challenge fathers to stop thinking of themselves as recipients and start thinking like leaders, investors, and disciple-makers. In today's episode, we draw from Hebrews 12, Philippians 4, Psalm 119, and Ephesians 6, and unpack practical ways dads can intentionally lead their families toward Christ instead of simply reacting to whatever life throws at you. In this episode, you'll learn: Why Father's Day should be about giving, not getting How small moments of time with your kids create lasting impact Four key Bible passages every dad should know Why passivity is one of the biggest threats to modern fatherhood How to lead your family with purpose, confidence, and spiritual direction Whether your kids are toddlers, teenagers, or grown adults, this conversation will encourage you to take the next step toward becoming a more intentional, Christ-centered father. What if rest isn't laziness… but obedience? In this episode of the Father On Purpose Podcast, Kent and Lawson explore one of the most overlooked rhythms in modern Christian life: Sabbath. Starting with the biblical significance of numbers like 3, 7, 12, and 40, the conversation quickly turns practical as they unpack why God built rest into creation itself. Why did God rest on the seventh day if He wasn't tired? What does Sabbath actually look like for busy dads with careers, kids, sports schedules, and endless responsibilities? Is this just an Old Testament rule, or is there still wisdom in it for Christian fathers today? Kent shares how his family intentionally protects a weekly rhythm of rest, connection, and trust in God. Lawson wrestles honestly with how difficult Sabbath can feel in real life, especially for dads who have spent years running nonstop. This episode is a grounded, biblical, and practical conversation about work, trust, faith, family rhythms, and learning to slow down before burnout forces you to. If you've ever felt like there's never enough time, this conversation is for you. Want to shape the direction of the show this year? What if becoming a better dad wasn't just about trying harder? In this episode of Father On Purpose, Kent and Lawson talk about the role of the Holy Spirit in fatherhood and why Christian dads were never meant to parent alone. Jesus called the Holy Spirit our Helper, Counselor, and Guide, but many fathers struggle to understand what that actually looks like in everyday life. This conversation explores how the Holy Spirit helps dads respond with patience, wisdom, humility, conviction, and courage in real parenting moments. From discipline and encouragement to apologizing and leading your family well, this episode is packed with practical biblical encouragement for fathers who want to follow God more intentionally. Kent and Lawson hit on: The role of the Holy Spirit in parenting Biblical fatherhood and spiritual leadership Hearing God's guidance as a dad Parenting with patience and wisdom How Christian fathers can rely on God daily Walking in the Spirit in your own home If you've ever felt overwhelmed, reactive, uncertain, or spiritually exhausted as a dad, this episode will remind you that God didn't just call you to lead your family. Today, we are going to have a thoughtful conversation around retirement. How to understand it, gain a new perspective, and ultimately do it well. Retirement is one of life's biggest transitions. My guest today, Chris Maduri, shares that people need the mindset and preparation to retire to something and not just from something. Chris Maduri has spent nearly two decades working in retirement and investment planning, helping people prepare for one of life's biggest transitions: Retirement - the moment work stops defining the structure of their days. Today, Chris works at the intersection of financial clarity and personal clarity, helping people navigate retirement and life's transitions with steadiness, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. In today's episode, Chris shares: “What tends to surprise people the most emotionally when they start slowing down or stepping away from work?” “How can someone begin discovering purpose before they retire instead of scrambling after?” “What questions should people be asking themselves 3–5 years before retirement?” “What becomes possible when someone approaches retirement with intention instead of fear?” “What are some non-financial habits or rhythms people should start building now?” “How important is structure in retirement, and what happens when it's missing?” CONNECT WITH CHRIS MADURI: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christopher-maduri-69a1032/ X: https://x.com/CoverYrAssets Website: https://vibrantretirement.com/ CONNECT WITH DEBI Website – https://www.debironca.com Instagram - @debironca Email – info@debironca.com Free Group Coaching - https://debi.sequoiatransitioncoaching.com/group-coaching YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@DebiRoncaOfficial Amy Throw | Stylist & Image CoachI style women in clothes they love & build opportunities they believe in https://www.cabionline.com/?pws=styledwithsoul Check out my online course! What if one of the biggest battles fathers face isn't "not knowing enough," but rather believing the wrong things about themselves? In this episode, Kent and Lawson unpack the powerful connection between wisdom and identity. They explore why biblical wisdom is more than knowledge, why God is the only one who gets to define who you are, and how dads can unknowingly build their lives around lies they've believed for years. From Proverbs to Ephesians 1, this conversation dives into what it means to think wisely, live intentionally, and lead your family from a place of security in Christ instead of performance, shame, or fear. If you've ever struggled with feeling like you're failing, falling behind, or not enough as a husband or father, this episode is for you. You'll hear: Why wisdom is more than experience or intelligence How identity and wisdom shape each other The danger of letting culture define who you are Practical ways dads can help their kids reject lies Why understanding your identity changes the way you lead Wise fathers don't just know more. They know who they are. Want to shape the direction of the show this year? “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” – Unknown Grief is a topic that we need more and more insight and understanding, and my guest, Thomas Attig, will bring depth to this conversation. He comes to us today highly credentialed and has been honored with several distinguished awards for his contributions to the study of grief, bereavement, and applied philosophy. The wake of our loved one's last breath washes over our world. We can easily lose our bearings in swirling winds of change and in a fog of suffering, separation, and aloneness. The color and vitality go out of things, places, events, activities, and experiences. Those closest to us can seem distant. It can feel as if chaos has broken out, even as we resent the larger world going on as if nothing has happened. Thomas Attig is the author of The Heart of Grief: Death and the Search for Lasting Love and How We Grieve: Relearning the World. His new collection, SEEKING WISDOM IN DEATH'S SHADOWS: Collected Writings on How We Grieve, distills a lifetime of listening, reflection, and teaching into understanding and guidance for mourners, caregivers, and counselors. What happens when your kids grow up and finally understand why you parented the way you did? In this special father-and-son episode, Kent sits down with his oldest son Alex for an honest conversation about parenting decisions that didn't always make sense in the moment: delayed cell phones, cultural boundaries, fitting in, dating, technology, and learning to wait. From Alex's perspective as a grown man, worship pastor, and husband, many of those frustrating "why can't I?" moments now carry a completely different meaning. This episode dives into: delayed gratification Christian parenting in a culture obsessed with fitting in helping kids stand apart instead of blend in raising sons who can think biblically the hidden lessons behind family rules why parenting is about more than behavior management If you've ever wondered whether your kids will someday understand the hard choices you make as a parent, this conversation is for you. Have you ever thought about your Financial DNA? What do you feel when you hear that money isn't a math problem, but a behavior problem? What does a 700-year-old cathedral in Italy have to do with Christian fatherhood? Turns out…a lot. While traveling through Europe, Lawson recorded a couple short videos outside the famous Florence Cathedral that sparked some powerful thoughts about legacy, faithfulness, and the kind of work dads are really called to do. In this episode, Kent unpacks the biblical idea that fatherhood is bigger than one lifetime. Just like the craftsmen who spent generations building cathedrals they would never fully see completed, dads today are building something eternal in their homes and families. Today's show is all about: multi-generational faithfulness trusting God with outcomes building a legacy that lasts staying faithful when you can't yet see the fruit why Christian fatherhood is never wasted work If you've ever wondered whether your daily effort as a dad really matters, this episode is a needed reminder: God is the architect, but faithful fathers still help build the house. A lot of early-stage founders can explain their company five different ways — and all five might be technically correct. The problem is that often, those answers don't fully line up. That gap in a startup's narrative creates friction. Investors may understand the problem but still don't feel like the story lands. Candidates may understand the product, but they're not fully on board with the mission. Customers may hear the explanation but still struggle to repeat it clearly. I've been inside meetings where the CTO described the company's core value one way and the CEO had a different take. In this episode, I break down the “narrative gap”: the distance between what a founder knows and what everyone else understands. I explain why technical founders often struggle to communicate even when they deeply understand their business and share several diagnostic frameworks you can use to test whether your story gives customers, investors, hires, and reporters confidence that you can execute. In this episode, we reflect on the beautiful call of women to prophetic motherhood. We talk about how Our Lady models for us a motherhood that speaks life and calls forth goodness to all those she encounters. We also ponder what it means to be a spiritual mother, how Mary can help heal our wounded experiences of motherhood, and the difference between affirmations and prophetic words. As Pentecost draws near, we invite you to ask for Our Lady's intercession to prepare your heart for a fresh outpouring of grace and to help you become a woman who brings life wherever she goes. Josh Other Resources Mentioned: The Identity of a Woman Series The Place We Find Ourselves Podcast Make Sense of Your Story by Adam Young Journal Questions: What does it mean for me to live into prophetic motherhood? What holds me back from speaking life into the people around me? When have I felt threatened or hurt by other women? What ache in your heart is God inviting you to bring before Mary? How can I offer prophetic motherhood to those in my life? How can I receive prophetic motherhood from those in my life? Discussion Questions: When have you been prophetically mothered by another woman? How were you impacted by that experience? How do we cultivate a culture of women speaking life within our own community? How do you desire a different story of motherhood and femininity from what you have experienced in the past? How is God inviting you to embody hope right now? Who is in the periphery of my life that God is inviting me to offer my maternity to? Quote to Ponder: "She is the poetess and prophetess of redemption, and we hear from her pure lips the strongest and most original hymn ever uttered - the "Magnificat"! She reveals the transforming design of the Christian economy, the historical and social result that still draws its origin and strength from Christianity…At this point a second way is opened for us by Our Lady, so that we may reach our salvation in the Lord Christ: it is her protection. She is our ally, our advocate. She is the confidence of the poor, of the lowly, of the suffering. She is even the "refuge of sinners." She has a mission of pity, goodness, and intercession for all. She consoles every grief of ours. She teaches us to be good, to be strong, and to be compassionate toward all. She is the queen of peace. She is the Mother of the Church." (Pope St. Paul VI, Homily, April 24, 1970) Scripture for Lectio: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." (Proverbs 18:21) Sponsor - Life Teen: Life Teen is offering something really special this summer, especially if you are a parent of a teenager. Years ago, Michelle and her husband Chris, began their ministry career working with Life Teen, and it has had a lasting impact on their lives as well as so many other families. Life Teen helps teens encounter Christ in a real and personal way, and it continues to bear fruit long after those experiences end. This summer, they are launching their very first Parent / Teen Camp, called Frontier. A frontier is the edge of what is known, where things are still being discovered and formed. If you are a parent of a teen, you know that is exactly what the teenage years feel like. A season that is constantly changing, where relationships are shifting, independence is growing, and both parents and teens are learning how to navigate something new together. Life Teen Parent / Teen Camp is a six-day experience where you and your teen step away from the noise of everyday life and experience camp together. It is a shared week of adventure and connection. You will experience things like ropes courses, hiking through the mountains, and white water rafting on the Chattooga River. But just as important as the adventure is what happens in the space between it all. Time to talk. Time to slow down. Time to be present with each other. And time to invite Christ into your relationship in a real and personal way. Everything is rooted in the Catholic faith, with daily Mass, the Sacraments, and intentional moments built in to pause, reflect, and listen. This experience is offered as a Mother and Daughter or Father and Son camp in Clayton, Georgia. It is designed specifically for families in the middle of the teenage years who want to strengthen their relationship, deepen trust, and create meaningful memories during a season that often moves quickly. This is not just a camp week. It is an intentional opportunity to invest in one of the most important relationships in your life. If this sounds like something you have been needing, I would encourage you to take a closer look. Full details are available online, and an informational webinar is offered for those who want a closer look. In this episode of the Marathon Running Podcast, Letty and Ryan break down the historic sub-2 hour breakthrough in London and, more importantly, how you can apply those same elite strategies to your own training. We translate the performances of Sabastian Sawe and Yomif Kejelcha into actionable "Middle-of-the-Pack" mechanics to help you become a faster, more efficient runner. We discuss the specific "how-to" steps behind these world records:Mastering the Negative Split: Why Sabastian Sawe's 59:01 second half proves that "banking time" early is a trap that depletes your glycogen 30% faster. The Bicarb Blueprint: How the new "Bicarb System" technology manages muscle acidity (the "burn") and how amateur runners can benefit from high-pH buffering. Aggressive Fueling: Why the 120g/hour carb standard is the new benchmark and how to "train your gut" to handle more fuel without GI distress. Mental Drafting & Stretch Goals: How to use "London energy" to reframe your psychological limits and use pace groups to handle the "mental math" of racing. If you've been stuck at the same marathon time for years, this episode is your guide to reframing what your body is actually capable of achieving. We move past the flashy headlines to give you the technical gear, fueling, and pacing tips used by the fastest humans on Earth. We are launching a brand-new Thursday segment: "Your Story, Your Why". We are moving beyond the elite news to share the relatable stories of everyday runners in our community. Want to be featured? Email Letty at letty@marathonjournal.com. What if the biggest problem in your fatherhood isn't your past… it's your direction? In this episode, we sit down with pastor, husband, Upward Sports league director, and dad of four, Mike Poelzer, for a deeply honest conversation about what it looks like to lead your family on purpose. Mike shares from a different angle than you might expect. He grew up with a strong, faithful foundation—and over time, he realized just how rare that actually is. Instead of making guys feel behind, it gives us something better: a clear picture of what we're aiming for. This is not a "be exactly like Mike" conversation (although, he's not a bad example!) but more of a challenge to change your family tree. We talk about: How to lead your family when you don't feel ready Why small, consistent steps matter more than big changes The role encouragement plays (and why most men avoid it) What it means to think beyond today and lead generationally This isn't about having it all together. It's about getting pointed in the right direction—and taking the next step. Today, Pastor Jack Graham closes out the series “His Story, Your Story,” with the epic battle in the wilderness between Our Lord and Satan. As Pastor Jack Graham noted yesterday during this series, “His Story, Your Story,” we will learn more and more about Jesus each time He comes face to face with someone. Today's message, “Unshackled,” looks at one of the most radical transformations in history – a man possessed by demons but delivered by the power of Christ.
