New studies are showing that the COVID vaccinations effectively do nothing with regard to the spread of COVID-19. This probably comes as no surprise to members of this audience but some people still insist on trusting the big pharma system that produced such a scam. Of course, the insistence on medication and reliance on pharmacologists enriches the big pharma shareholders and corporate overlords but does nothing to get to the root causes of our health issues here in America. My guest today, Russ Yeager, has spent decades fighting against Big Pharma to help make Americans fitter and more capable. This week I feature my former Wing Zone partner, Matt Friedman. For years when we would bring prospects and guests into town for Discovery Day, they would inevitably make the leap that by virtue of our last names being the same and me being Matt's senior by a good 20 years, that we were father and son. They would look at all that Matt and Adam had accomplished in building the Wing Zone business and suggest how proud I must be of my son. Well, while I would always agree with them about the growth of the business, I would tell them too, how proud I am of my son, but his name is Michael, not Matt and doesn't participate in the business. It was always lots of fun that I could count on monthly. Anyway, I tell you all that to say this week I am particularly proud of my son Michael, as he gets ready to join his bride Megan, to share their vows of marriage. So, who better to present today than that other Friedman, Matt, as I celebrate this sacred event with my "real son." Next week, I am back and joined by Jeremy Morgan, CEO of WellBiz Brands, franchisors of Amazing Lash, Dry Bar, Elements Massage, Fitness Together and Radiant Waxing.

What does it mean when someone has been in the fitness industry for 17 years, written 11 books on the business of fitness, and published 1,000 articles from 800 different coaches, and insists on hiring a personal trainer to coach him? It means hiring a trainer is a really good idea. There is always something to be learned. Jon's mission is to bring the fitness world together, so that fitness professionals may serve their clients in the best of ways. As you embark on your new or continued fitness journey, take a listen to Jon's always helpful and often funny comments on how to manage your time in the gym, and please be careful of social media trainers who are let's say.... going to extremes to get your attention. PS- Confused about midlife health and fitness? Three fitness leaders have combined forces on an innovative approach to fitness for people over 50. Former industry executive Martin Pazzani and former owners of multiple Anytime Fitness locations John Spence and Michael Gelfgot are now on the verge of opening the first Act!vate Brain & Body in Cincinnati this fall. It will be the debut facility in the country that trains brain health and physical health at the same time, using science-backed techniques to fight off cognitive decline. They intend to scale it up in other cities, too. They couldn't be arriving at a better time, as more and more people live longer and dementia rates go up accordingly. But while Alzheimer's and other dreaded affiliations are most often associated with age, they are not inevitable byproducts of time, says the team behind Act!vate. And Alzheimer's organizations and medical professionals agree that lifestyle factors -- including exercise -- can play a role in minimizing the chances of getting it.The Act!vat setup is unique, combining novel resistance training, cardio workouts, and brain games all under one roof, in an instructor-led small group. The target age is 45 and up. It's designed to promote cognitive health, clear thinking, better memory and sleep, and more aspects of brain health that can become incapacitating later in life. This is really interesting stuff, and I'm excited to bring you my chat with Martin and John. I have a feeling we'll all be hearing a lot more about this as time goes on. Forrest has been in the fitness industry since 1996 and he is famous for saying that he “can't imagine doing anything else.” His fitness story began in college. As the smallest guy on the cheerleading squad at Auburn University, he needed to put on about 30 pounds to hang with the other guys and have the strength to press his partner above his head! Putting on that 30 pounds of muscle put Forrest's life on a new trajectory that made him aware of just how powerful exercise and physique development could be on the entire human psyche. From there, he started pursing natural bodybuilding contests as a way to express his passion for fitness and placed very well in several local contests. Others starting asking him how to get into shape, and before he knew what had happened Forrest was in the personal training industry! In 2001, he opened his first Fitness Together personal training studio. He eventually grew that into six studios that he owned and operated right in Birmingham. After success with those six, he decide to sell them for the chance to purchase the franchise rights to develop the Fitness Together franchise brand in Alabama, Florida and North Carolina. Despite a great deal of success in this endeavor developing Fitness Together in these three states, in late 2007, Forrest had been unable to shake the feeling that he just had to get more directly back in the fitness industry and help people transform their lives. And that is the spark that lead to the creation of the Iron Tribe brand. In 2013, Forrest published a book about the Iron Tribe story, documenting this very story of deciding to get his friends together in his garage to workout throughout 2008 and 2009, which lead to the opening of the first Iron Tribe gym in 2010.

Are you wondering if a strategic partnership could benefit your business endeavors? Are there just some skills that you lack that a partner could take on? If you don’t possess all the necessary skills—or even finances required—to be a business owner, consider partnering with someone who does. My guest today, Stephen Kopshaw, gives us insight into 3 different areas of franchising—and doing it with partners. 12 years ago Stephen was a physical trainer working at a Fitness Together location. He had ideas on how to implement business practices differently that he felt would benefit the franchise. He shared his ideas and goals with his client and friend, Lisa Paladino Petersen, hoping to open his own location someday. One day she said, “Why don’t we do it together?” and their partnership was formed. Less then a year later they were operating their location. Now, Stephen and Lisa—along with 4 other partners—own multiple franchise locations, work as consultants, and are operate on the flip side as franchisors. Outline of This Episode [0:35] I introduce my guest, Stephen Kopshaw, CEO of FIT 36. [2:10] How Stephen got his start in franchising [6:15] How it all began with friendships [11:20] Play to your strengths—let someone else handle your weaknesses [14:55] Taking over failing stores = “Turnaround Opportunities” [17:10] What do you look for in an opportunity [20:55] What do you look for in a good location [22:30] The evolution of their partnership [25:40] Next steps: Buying out a franchise [29:00] Challenges to overcome [32:35] Commitment to transparency and change [34:55] Changes in store for FIT 36 [40:00] Things commonly seen in an underperforming franchise What can a strategic partnership do for you? The strictest definition of a strategic partnership is a “relationship between two commercial enterprises usually formalized by one or more business contracts”. So we are going to loosely interpret the term in this instance. The goal is to partner with someone who has experience in areas that you do not. Play to your strengths—and let someone else handle your weaknesses. Steve, like myself, is a strategic thinker and succeeds at anything having to do with execution, finding opportunities, and all of the “big picture” decisions. He considers day-to-day management and customer relationships his weaknesses, but they are strengths for some of his partners. The key is to find people who balance the relationship and complement each other. What to look for in a turnaround opportunity Something Stephen and his partners specialize in is taking failing stores—which they prefer to call turnaround opportunities—and helping them find success. They can absolve someone’s liability and help them move on to their next step. Another benefit is that they aren’t on the line for a lot of the typical costs involved with building out a location. So what do they look for? The first step is to make sure you have access to financials, profit and loss statements, and their advertising/sales process. If you can adequately gauge where the business is struggling and how to address it, it’s a good indicator of future success. A trick they love to use is spending 4-6 hours in the immediate area and playing “secret shoppers” as they check out the competition. The #1 thing that would deter them from buying? A bad location. Want to know more? Keep listening! A team with many hats: Franchisors, franchisees, and business consultants Steve and his team originally started as a mastermind group, each taking turns to educate each other on something new. Eventually, they all started relinquishing work they weren’t skilled at to each other. Over time, their relationship evolved into a mutual partnership, with each complementing the other. They knew they could do something bigger with the A-list team they had cultivated. They were approached to buyout a Fitness Together location to complement their current one. So they flipped it and built a thriving business while also experiencing growth in their core studio. They tested the waters and dove into the world of Elements Massage—which became another success. Their most recent endeavor was the purchase of the Fit 36 franchise. Keep listening to hear where this new opportunity is taking them. Implementing clear communication and transparency I asked Steve what surprised him the most when transitioning from franchisee to franchisor. Surprisingly, communication styles have been the most difficult roadblock to navigate. Everyone hears and absorbs information differently. What seems like a simple company-wide email relaying information can become complicated as everyone involved interprets the message differently. Steve and his team are committed to establishing transparency and change as they’ve taken over Fit 36. They want everyone to be on the same page and stay informed. They implement this by sending out a monthly newsletter, running a facebook group, and monthly roundtable calls with the leadership team. If you want to hear specifics of how they’re turning the franchise around, listen to the full episode now. This episode is full of strategies any franchise should implement with only a few things touched on in the notes—check out the full episode now for all the details! "From when my eyes open in the morning until my head hits the pillow at night, I've made some sort of difference... it's the right thing to do." On this week's episode of the Eat Green Make Green Podcast, I sit down with the one and only Paul Kostopoulos, the owner of Fitness Together in Arlington, MA. Honestly, the last thing I would have thought when I first met Paul is that he's vegan. He has a hard Boston accent, a blue collar rough around the edges persona, and struck me as a guy who would give me shit for ordering a salad... a typical Bostonian man's man, if you will. Beneath the surface, however, Paul is far from typical and his love and compassion for other people (like his many clients at Fitness Together) and the many other creatures on this earth redefines what it really means to be a man. We talk about Paul's early life, his struggles with drugs and alcohol, what promoted him to go vegan, how he ended up starting Fitness Together, and why he's on a mission to make a difference in the world. I know this episode is going to positively impact a lot of guys, as Paul is an amazing example of the fact that you can still be a strong, blue collar, manly-ass man while not doing harm to your body, the planet, and others on this planet. Paul is an incredible dude, and it was an absolute pleasure getting to know him. I know you'll enjoy this one! http://www.fitnesstogether.com/missionhills Four Exercise Tips to Shape Up Your Golf Game The fairways are groomed, the putting greens are smooth and the tee boxes are set. Your favorite golf course is ready for another great golf season; but is your golf game up to par?Shape up for this year’s golf season with the following exercise tips to increase your fitness level as you shoot for a season full of birdies and eagles. Tip One: Train Like An AthleteThe primary goal of training for athletes is to prevent injury, followed by improving performance. If you're injured you can’t practice, you can’t play and you can’t make your game better. That’s why Bruce Kelly, owner of the Fitness Together studio in Media, Penn., believes that the first step of an athlete’s training program should be a personalized fitness assessment that tests range of motion, strength and flexibility. If you don’t have an established baseline to work from, then you won’t have a clear direction toward accomplishing your golf fitness goals this summer.“Golfers are athletes, so they should train like athletes,” says Kelly. “You have to get fit to play, not play to get fit.” Tip Two: Turn Up Cardio Conditioning If you want to talk like the pros, then you have to walk like the pros. Since the PGA requires golfers to walk all 18 holes of the golf course during its tournaments, fit players need to focus on increasing cardiovascular fitness levels in the offseason with exercises that are performed while standing up.“Golf is an expanding, explosive sport. So you need to train as functionally and effectively as possible,” Kelly says. “This means that as much of your training exercises need to be done on your feet as possible and the training movements need to be as explosive as possible.”Increasing your cardio and metabolic conditioning, though, doesn’t mean that you have to log double digits of running or walking miles each week. Instead, Kelly suggests adding exercises into your fitness routine that mimic the explosive and repetitive nature of golf. Adding a circuit of sled pushing and pulling, battling ropes and medicine ball slams into your workout will not only help increase your overall fitness level, but prepare your body for a summer of powerful tee drives and strong golf swings. Tip Three: Build Total Body Strength, Power and Stability The golfer’s swing is one of the most critiqued movements of the game. If you only focus on strengthening the upper body portion of your swing, though, you miss out on a critical part of your golf game.“The swing is such an explosive total body movement,” Kelly says. “You have to be able to control the forces of the swing or you’ll end up spending most of your time looking for your ball in the trees or, ultimately, injuring yourself.”The power of your golf swing comes from total body strength that starts with strong, explosive and flexible legs followed by strong back, shoulder and neck muscles and ending with powerful biceps, triceps and forearms to finish the swing. You can hit all of the key muscle groups in your body by adding total body strength and power training moves into your workout. Some total body movements for golfers include kettlebell swings, shoulder press squats, medicine ball throws and medicine ball lunges with a twist.Holding regular plank, side plank and Superman positions for one minute in duration for three or four repetitions at a time also are excellent exercises for building strong core and back muscles to stabilize your body, which can help you crush the ball off the tee and drive it down the fairway.Tip Four: Stretch It OutA limber, flexible body is an integral part to every golfer’s game. It’s important to stretch after hitting the greens to recover your muscles and prepare them for the next round. It's also a good idea to stretch prior to teeing off to loosen tight muscles and prepare them for the torque and repetitive motion of a golf swing. Before you head out to the greens, warm up your lower and upper body muscles with dynamic stretches such as walking lunges, moving toe touches and foam rolling. After your golf game, static stretches at the course followed by foam rolling and even regular massage will help relax your tired muscles and prepare your mind and body for the next golf outing on your summer roster. As you prepare for a summer of walking down sun-drenched fairways, it’s important to focus on your body’s fitness level for the physical wear and tear of the golf season. By incorporating these four tips into your workout routine, you'll be on your way to getting the most out of every day on the links.
http://www.fitnesstogether.com/missionhills Kick Start Your Summer Body by Focusing on a Healthy, Fit Lifestyle With the countdown to summer in full swing, it's time to start focusing on a total body health and fitness routine. Whether struggling to shed the last few winter pounds, maintaining weekend warrior fitness levels or competing as an endurance athlete, everyone can benefit from a fit, healthy lifestyle built around brain wellness, body fitness and belly health. Spring is the perfect time to start putting in the work to achieving overall health and fitness with National Public Health Week (April) and World Health Day (April) leading the way to a healthier society. As the theme for National Health Week states, "A Healthier America Begins Today: Join the Movement!"1 It is time to put all excuses and distractions behind you, as today is the day to start moving toward a healthy lifestyle that will lead to positive mental, physical and overall well-being results. Let's get started! Brain Wellness A healthy brain and a healthy body work hand-in-hand to achieve overall fitness and well-being. A happy mind and happy body are derived from a healthy fitness routine that is focused on keeping you motivated, pushing you to do better and helping you reach goals you never thought were possible. Consistent fitness routines, especially in a small group setting, not only help release feel good endorphins in your body that support a healthy lifestyle, but working out with friends/peers also can serve as a mind and body therapy session for sweating out negative attitudes, while building total body endurance and strength. A study in the Journal of Sports Sciences even found that focusing on a team or group's strengths instead of your own can improve your body’s performance levels because working out in a group may ease your brain’s performance anxiety so you can relax, focus and reach your health and fitness goals. Body Fitness Spring is the perfect time to get your fit on by switching up your routine and combining a mix of cardiovascular and strength training exercises. If you have spent the winter months stuck within the walls of a gym, it can be good for your body and mind to take your workouts outside as the weather gets warmer and the sun shines longer. Instead of logging endless miles on the treadmill, hop on a neighborhood track for a quick interval sprint workout or dust off your bike for some strenuous cycling workouts. It also is important to not get stuck in a time rut by making sure that your fitness routine is burning calories and boosting your metabolism without draining the clock. A fast-paced, interval workout that incorporates short bursts of explosive cardio and strength exercises will not only cut your workout time in half, but it can be more effective for feeling your best, looking your best and performing better than you ever thought possible. Belly Health Americans' mid-sections are not getting smaller, on the average, and the size of your belly can be a good indication of the state of your body's health and wellness. To achieve a healthy lifestyle, it is important to focus on your body's core, as a healthy core can lead to healthy cardiovascular systems, digestive functions and strong muscular structures. Busting out hundreds of sit ups, though, may not be the best approach to achieving a healthy middle section. Shedding an extra layer of belly bulge takes a two-prong approach of exercise and nutrition. While sit ups can be a part of your core workout, it is important to focus on toning all of your abdominal muscles for the best results. Effective total body exercises that work the core can include planks (elbow, hand, side), knee/leg lifting exercises and standing on a balance ball when doing your regular strength training exercises. On the food front, a healthy eating routine should include cooking more meals at home, focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods without extra additives/preservatives/chemicals, watching portion control and drinking adequate amounts of water. A healthy belly not only leads to a reduced risk of disease, but it also supports a more confident, energetic lifestyle.Ready to Kick Start a Healthy Summer Body? From pizza and doughnuts to personal training and massages Jeff Jervik, president and CEO of Fitness Together Franchise Holdings, Inc. Jervik is a franchise industry maven, which ultimately brought him to his current position, which he's held since 2008. He's the head of the world's largest wellness company, which includes Fitness Together and Elements Therapeutic Massage. Before this position, he had a rather different route in franchising - selling pizza and doughnuts. Jervik's career began as an hourly employee selling pizza at Pizza Hut. He worked his way up within the PepsiCo company, spending 14 years there, and ending with his title of national vice president of operations of Pizza Hut. He was responsible for the operations of over 1,000 Pizza Hut restaurants with sales of approximately $800 million and over 25,000 employees. Jervik came to the realization that despite the temporary satisfaction a pizza or doughnut might bring for someone, he wasn't changing anyone's life. He wanted to help people, which brought him the wellness industry with Fitness Together and Elements. Helping people lose weight or relieve pain would actually better people's lives, he concluded. With over two decades in the franchise industry, Jervik is a polished expert in the field, despite making a complete industry change from pizza to wellness.

Tina talked about the importance of training outdoors in order to get one with nature and use the surroundings around you to get a wickedly effective workout. In San Francisco she does outdoor classes with her clients first thing in the morning. They might be doing pull ups on a tree branch one minute and stretching on a parking meter the next. Each workout is different and each is sure to kick your butt. Tina stressed that exercising outdoors is an almost spiritual experience. She says she has had clients get overcome with emotions as they workout. Picture yourself at the crack of dawn, surrounded by the glow of the rising sun, running through the woods with the skyline of San Francisco in front of you as sweat is pouring off your body. Pretty cool huh? For more information about Tina, her only accredited Outdoor Training classes and her radio show please go the her website www.outdoorfitness.com Dr Fitness chimed in with his weight loss tips. Tiffany from The Daily Candy called his family friendly radio show "Hilarious!" This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade's "Showbiz Show" on Comedy Central or Entertainment Tonight mixed in with a little Wayne's World. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn't like on TV, at the movies, video games, in books and in music and even restaurant reviews. Please go to his site and download the show for your kid. He had a big show recently he interviewed Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. And if your kid sends Max an email he'll read it on the air next week. The show can be found at www.kidpowerradio.com and you can email Max at RadioStarMax at Yahoo.com.
