You never really know what to expect during your time in Beauty School. It's true that everyone's experiences are different. I never really had any solid advice before I went to beauty school. Two of my cousins did hair and at the time my mom also purchased a hair salon to partner with one of those cousins. You think that may have prepared me, but it didn't. As a 12 year post-grad, I have learned some things along the way. and in this 3 episode series, I'm going to share what I wish I knew pre, during, and post beauty school. I'm opening a Booth Rental Salon and this is all new! It's no secret, I've been an independent stylist for more than half of my career. I've worked at both commission and booth rental salons. In the end, I really only ever felt like I fit in when I worked by myself or with an assistant in my Salon Suite. But things in a salon suite were kinda lonely. I always wished I had people around me who were ambitious and inspiring. I opened Lumiere House last year as an education & rental space that I could use as a corporate office also. A month or so ago I had an idea. What if I could create a space and build a team of independent stylists?Fast forward to now and I am working toward just that. In this episode I will be sharing my vision, what I am doing to work toward that vision and where I am at currently. “I have had a difficult year booth renting. (boundary issues with owner/stylist) And just not making / putting myself out there enough on my end. My lease is up and I have no idea where to go from here. I never made enough $$$ while booth renting, but didn't work hard at marketing either. Salon suites jump up over double what I used to pay, and I hardly made that. Any advise. booth rent another salon? Say a prayer and go for the suite?”-AnonymousRemember these 4 things and you will go places in your career: Consistency beats talent Consistency beats money Consistency beats experience Consistency beats fear Now let's talk about it more in this episode. After listening to Episode 15: Charging The Cancelation Fee - Upset Client Pt. 1, you have a great foundation to navigating that sticky situation. Now it's time to take a deeper look into your cancelation policy. The outline needs to be solid. That way there are no misunderstandings on the client side. This episode will help you iron out your cancelation policy's foundation.Check out the episode I did on Phorest FM!Kristen Lumiere on Navigating Sticky Situations & Breaking Up With Salon ClientsVisit my website: www.kristenlumiere.comJoin the Lumiere Lab WaitlistJoin the Revive WaitlistJoin the Lumiere Inner Circle Facebook Community
Tell me if this has ever happened to you before: You have a client read and sign your cancelation policy, they schedule an appointment and then don't show up or cancel within the cancelation period (let's say they cancel 10 hours before their appointment). You notify them that their will be a cancelation fee (because they breached your policy). You tell them the fee and then…they aren't happy. They give you pushback on your policy, now what do you do? If this is something that has happened, or you are afraid of happening to you then you aren't alone (trust me, you are never alone). This episode is all about that sticky situation.Check out the episode I did on Phorest FM!Kristen Lumiere on Navigating Sticky Situations & Breaking Up With Salon ClientsVisit my website: www.kristenlumiere.comJoin the Lumiere Lab WaitlistJoin the Revive WaitlistJoin the Lumiere Inner Circle Facebook Community

Is work-life balance really something that is achievable? We hear it all the time and constantly search for the answers. What we all can agree on is that every person has a different definition of work-life balance and how it applies to them. Some people see it as a 50/50 split. Some see it as imbalanced. How do you see it? In this episode I am going to share the way I see work-life balance and what I do to achieve it.
There are 3 huge pricing mistakes stylists make when trying to come up with their own pricing structure. These mistakes can fatally harm your business and suffocate your income earning potential. Seem scary? It totally is...However, you can still have made these mistakes and fix them without ruining all the hard work you have put into your business. The system used in my business and that I talk about in this episode increased my profit and pay over 25%.Join my Masterclass: Is The Price Right?https://kristenlumiere.mykajabi.com/is-the-price-right

If you are ready to stop pre-booking but aren't really sure how to make that transition, this episode is for you. In this episode I will go over the exact process I used to switch from booking 6+ months in advance, to only opening my schedule 6 weeks for clients to book online. This was a no touch system on my side so i could free up 4+ hours of my time each week and dedicate it to other areas of my business (or life), that needed more attention.
Have you ever thought to yourself“I can't stand online booking because my clients never schedule the right services!”Or, “I can't give up control of my schedule, how do I know I will make enough money?”Maybe even something along the lines of, “Online booking will be more trouble than it's worth.” All of those things and more are 100% true if you don't have the right systems in place so clients book the correct services. Online booking will eliminate your receptionist work and help you focus on the party of your business that build a profit and give you financial freedom. In this episode I go over my exact process for how I ran my online booking.website: www.kristenlumiere.comRevive waitlist: https://view.flodesk.com/pages/5fb2a8e61cb5fe42588d7119
There have been many things ground into our brains since beauty school. Things that we have been told are essential to a successful career. One of those things is pre-booking. As a stylist, I felt like I would really have made it if I was booked out 'x' amount of months in advance. When I reached that goal and was booked out 6+ months solid, I felt everything but that. Instead, I was left feeling like a slave to my schedule. Like I couldn't spontaneously live my life. Tired of the complete overwhelmed and anxiety...I stopped pre-booking completely and it changed my life. In this episode you will connect with the reasons why I stopped pre-booking.www.kristenlumiere.comwww.instagram.com/kristen.lumiere
