There were plenty of great moments and performances to talk about from Saturday. Ohio State finally lived up to the hype that has been on this team for the entire season. The Big Ten Championship Game looms next for the Bucks. And the guys look forward to Northwestern. The Wildcats come in 8-1 in conference, and they field a much better team than the record shows. The Sons of Schmidt S3E12: The Game! Finally, the most important Thursday in November is here! That is correct, it is Rivalry Week Thursday! As everyone is spending time with their families today, it is the perfect time to listen to the newest episode of The Sons of Schmidt. To start, what does Ohio State have to do in order to move into the College Football Playoffs? Hint: win. That is the only thing they can control. For segment one, the guys look back at the best of times and worst of times. Of course, this is the offense and defense that showed up in Scarlet and Gray on Saturday in College Park. The Buckeyes offense showed a lot of positives against the Terps. And the defense showed…that they were also on scholarship. The Sons kick of Hate Week looking at the Michigan offense. For those of you who haven’t seen TTUN this season, they are nothing fancy. But they are darn good at it. Michigan still employees a fullback, and they will try to pound the football Saturday. The biggest question, of course, is “Can Ohio State’s defense slow down Michigan more than Michigan’s defense can slow down Ohio State?” Brandon and Mike look into this and weigh the Buckeye options. As always, the Son of a Schmidt! segment will get you talking. The show closes with Schmidt Picks and a final score prediction never before heard on three years of the show. Not much has changed in the rankings or in the amount of time the Sons are giving them. For segment one, Brandon Zimmerman and Mike Meals look back at Michigan State. To start Sons of Schmidt Thursday, the Sons celebrate someone’s birthday. And then they dig super deep into the College Football Playoff rankings. Or, they really don’t. It is still early, and nothing is changing unless Ohio State wins out. During the first segment, the Sons look back at the Nebraska game. Where they happy with the close win? No. But did the Buckeyes do enough to give them hope that major issues have been corrected? The guys also take a couple listener questions in the #AskSoS portion of the show. For segment two, Michigan State positions itself in the crosshairs. Sparty has been a consistent thorn in Ohio State’s side recently. How do the Bucks match-up this year? Can Ohio State continue to build on the momentum the rushing attack built against Nebraska? MSU does come into the game with the #1 rushing defense in the country. But they also struggle against the pass. You may not know this, but Ohio State has a pretty good quarterback, and they should be able to take advantage of this. Then, to start segment one, The Sons look back at the Minnesota game, for all the unremarkableness that it was. Clearly there were things that could have been better. In the second segment, Mike and Brandon look forward to Purdue. The Boilermakers have a gaudy stat line for the season, but are they as good as that shows? Purdue has been in every game they have played this season, but neither guy thinks they are very good. And because it is a hot topic, does Purdue pull off the upset this week? Brandon was in Columbus this week to watch the game live, so Mike had to bring in a special guest host this week for episode 9 of The Sons of Schmidt Podcast on the Ozone Radio Network. The SoS show starts this week taking a high-level look at what went wrong versus the Sooners. There are clearly issues that need to be addressed, from the coaching staff down to who plays. What can be done to address these fatal flaws and can the Buckeyes get them corrected before Big Ten play resumes in a couple weeks? During the second quarter, the guys look long and hard at the defensive side of the ball. The issues with the defensive backs gets addressed. And there is a call out for a true leader to step up and take over the Silver Bullets, 2017 edition. For segment three, we do the exact same thing to address the offensive woes that Ohio State seems to be dealing with. Where is Mike Weber? What is going on with the wide receivers? How do you help J.T. Barrett lead this team to another Big Ten Championship? Like everyone else, in segment four, the Sons put the Oklahoma game to rest and turn their focus to Army. The Knights run an offense that shares common characteristics with Ohio State, but their triple option is an entirely different beast. Should the Buckeyes be on upset alert? We make out predations for the players of the game and pick winners. The Breakdown: 0:50 – The Opening 7:16 – 1st Quarter – OU takeaways – Overview of the Buckeyes’ issues from Saturday 25:14 – 2nd Quarter – Silver Bullets and fixing the issues OU exposed 36:14 – 3rd Quarter – Offensive issues and corrections moving forward 51:08 – 4th Quarter – Army Prediction time! 1:01:51– The Final Gun

The basic return of The Sons of Schmidt is here! Oklahoma Hate Week has officially started after the long weekend for the Buckeyes. Mike and Brandon are leading the charge back to Columbus for the Ozone Radio Network, with episode 8 of the Sons of Schmidt podcast. We start off the show on a somber note. As many of our listening faithful knows, there was no episode 7 of the show. Mike lives in the Houston, Texas metro area, and had a few things he had to take care of last week. Instead of the normal banter, the show starts with an update on how things are going in Southeast Texas after the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. We also have a few places where people can support the region’s rebuilding efforts, like JJ Watt’s fundraising drive. We are happy to report that other than missing an episode and some relatively speaking minor damage, Mike and his family are okay. They have a lot of work to do, as does the entire area, but Texas will rebuild. I am putting the challenge out though, to Buckeye Nation, to show the country that we have the best damn heart in the land, and to support your neighbors on the Texas Gulf Coast. And I personally thank you all for everything you may have done already. In segment two, the guys get back to talking football. Brandon and Mike look at the Ohio State defense and in particular, the defensive backfield, and their play against Indiana. Even through the Buckeyes left Bloomington with a win, is there reason for concern as they match up with the high-powered Sooners offense? The SoS guys flip the script in the third segment, and look into the production of the Ohio State offense. There is discussion on how the offense looked in Bloomington, and what we can expect to see in Ohio Stadium on Saturday. We make our predictions in segment four. Brandon and Mike give you their picks for this week’s offensive and defensive MVPs, and take a stab at who wins and by what score.

The 2nd annual Sons of Schmidt B1G Preview is now live! When you want to know where and how everyone in the Big Ten will finish the season, this is your go-to source! This is episode six of the second season of The Sons of Schmidt Podcast. And as you have grown to know and love, we have yet another home run sponsor for this week’s show! To start the show, as they have done each week during fall camp, the guys take a look at the latest news straight from the mouths of players and coaches. This week, there is more clarity from Kerry Coombs on the cornerback rotation, and you’ll hear from Damon Arnette on the Buckeyes’ plans for the corners when in the nickel formation. There is an update and surprise pick on who is the leader in the clubhouse to start at right guard, one of the most hotly contested position battles this fall. And segment one wraps with discussion on the new and improved mindset of QB1, J.T. Barrett. For segment two, the SoS guys go around the Big Ten East to pick final records and finishes for the seven teams in what, according to Mike, may be the single best division in all of college football in 2017. You will get the exact same thing for segment three, only this time, it is the Big Ten West. And like in segment two, the Sons highlight a couple games to watch which will determine the division. Segment four will get you the Sons’ preseason picks for the end of the season awards. Is this the year the Big Ten Coach of the Year finally is given to a Buckeye coach? Who wins the coveted Silver Football? And how does the Big Ten get represented during bowl season?

It is travel day for The Sons of Schmidt this week. Brandon and Mike check in on Ohio State’s fall camp, and then take a look beyond the Columbus city limits at the rest of the 2017 college football landscape this week. This is episode 5 of the second season of The Sons of Schmidt Podcast. To start the show, the guys take a look at the updates on the right guard starter and at who will be taking the first snaps at wide receiver. And they clarify that, as much as we are loving J.K. Dobbins this fall, who will be the starting running back for Ohio State. The SoS guys then spend the second segment looking at their predictions for the other Power 5 conference division and championship winners. They go west to east, and even manage to talk SEC football. We spend segment three looking forward to, and making our way-too-early selections for the College Football Playoffs. Spoiler: Expect to hear Ohio State being named here. The Francis Schmidt Award Show takes over segment four. The guys make a preseason Heisman Trophy pick, name and defend their over/underrated conference selections, and give out their preseason All American Skill Position awards on offense.

The pads are on and there is contact! That means that Ohio State Buckeyes are over a week into answering the lingering questions for the 2017 season. And The Sons of Schmidt has episode 4 of their 2nd season here to help address and answer questions about this year’s team. You simply can not talk about the 2017 Buckeyes without talking about the splash and impact this year’s true freshmen are having in camp. It seems like J.K. Dobbins has been the topic of discussion everywhere, and we start this week off looking at his performance so far, along with some of the other big name freshmen, like Chase Young. Brandon and Mike get right to it…is it time to buy into the J.K. Dobbins hype? In the second segment of the show, the SoS guys review some of the headlines and sound bites we have gotten thanks to our wonderful editor, Tony Gerdeman, and from the Big Ten Network’s Bus Tour stop in Columbus. We’ve all heard it, was Greg Schiano telling the truth about this being the best defensive line he’s ever coached? What about the players that are being noticed by their teammates? Who is having a great camp so far? In a surprise look ahead, segment three addresses the report this week that Ohio State could have a mass exodus of underclassmen after 2017. There was one report that as many as 12 underclassmen could be leaving, and Brandon gives you the lowdown on if that is a real possibility. Then Mike and Brandon wrap up the show answering a couple questions from the listeners of the show, where they talk about the trap that could be opening with Indiana, any lingering effects from the dreadful performance in last season’s Fiesta Bowl, and where does Urban Meyer end his career on the list of All-Time Greatest Coaches.
