Reimagining Ohio State's 2011 Season Without Tatgate: Pryor, Tressel, and a Possible Title RunOn the Buckeye Weekly Podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr revisit Ohio State's 2011 season and reimagine it without Tatgate, suspensions, departures, and with Jim Tressel still coaching a roster featuring senior Terrelle Pryor and freshman Braxton Miller. They walk through the schedule, arguing several losses—Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska (after Miller's ankle injury), Purdue (missed extra point), Penn State, and Michigan—could have flipped with better quarterback play, coaching continuity, and a full roster, potentially leading to a Big Ten title game and even a BCS National Championship opportunity against LSU. They discuss how ugly many 2011 games were, key turning points like the Nebraska collapse and the Wisconsin Hail Mary, and how NIL-era legality changes the lens on the scandal.00:00 Welcome Buckeye Weekly00:39 Why Revisit 201101:18 No Tatgate What If02:09 Akron Toledo Tuneups02:44 Miami Disaster Reframed06:38 Colorado And Sparty Ugly08:45 Nebraska Collapse Meme11:24 Legends Leaders Trivia13:22 Illinois Zook Upset14:26 Wisconsin Hail Mary Classic17:10 Purdue Penn State Rancid19:45 Michigan Heartbreaker22:15 Big Ten Title Path22:37 LSU BCS Toss Up26:35 Tatgate Legacy Today27:17 Wrap Up And Subscribe

The NCAA will crown its first women's wrestling champions March 6–7, 2026 at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa, marking a historic step for the sport's rapid growth at the collegiate level. NCAA Director of Championships and Alliances Ryan Tressel explains how the organization built the championship structure from the ground up—leaning on Division II and III templates, collaborating with coaches and USA Wrestling, and navigating qualification numbers, format decisions, and calendar placement. With more than 100 NCAA institutions sponsoring women's wrestling and 180 qualifiers approved for the inaugural event, the championship reflects unprecedented expansion since the sport achieved emerging status. The event will stream on ESPN+ with multi-mat “whip-around” coverage before culminating on a single championship mat Saturday night. Hosted in partnership with Think Iowa City and the Iowa City Area Sports Commission, the Coralville venue offers a compact, fan-friendly setup designed to create a reunion-style atmosphere for athletes, alumni, and supporters. As Division III prepares to sponsor its own standalone championship in 2028, the 2026 tournament represents both a milestone and a launching point for the NCAA era of women's collegiate wrestling. We're back for our February check-in after a few weeks to bask in the glow of Ohio State's national championship season. But the news rarely sleeps when it comes to Buckeye football, so we're back to get caught up on what's going on.We start with our discussion of a new position in the government for former OSU coach Jim Tressel. “The Senator” is just a Lt. Governor (for now, at least), and it's good to see the old ball coach finding productive things to do with his time. After Tressel talk, we dive into the changes on Ryan Day's coaching staff since our last show. Did the Buckeyes make the best hires they could? We won't know until we see how things shake out, but they were interesting additions. Some of the additions were merely promotions, and we're interested to see how comfortable Day really is when it comes to Brian Hartline calling plays.Next up, we chatted about spring football starting up and the fact that changes are coming to the spring game...sorry, Spring Showcase. There's a change right there! We follow that up sith some discussion about a potential expansion of automatic bids for the Big Ten and SEC. That right there is a slippery slope. Finally, we look at the former Buckeyes headed to the NFL Combine and which ones might miss particular drills or opt to showcase their talents at Ohio State's Pro Day. There sure are a lot of Buckeyes heading to the Combine, so it's a great year to watch it. We also touched on some former OSU assistant coaches and where their new jobs are, as well as a new number for a returning defensive back.We are in our monthly offseason schedule, but we could have more than one show a month depending on how much news there is. We will return to our weekly schedule in August, as camp opens and we get you ready for the 2025 Ohio State football season. We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions via email at silverbulletspod@gmail.com. Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod.As always, thanks for listening!0:20 — Tressel is Ohio's Lt. Governor and Ryan Day has some new (and some promoted) coaches on his staff.32:43 — Spring Showcase and practice talk and what's the deal with automatic bids?45:55 — Buckeyes headed to the NFL Combine, former OSU assistants have new gigs, and a number change for a defensive back.

Keith Byars, a former first-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles who spent thirteen seasons in the NFL and remains among the all-time leaders in running back receptions, joins Says Who Sports to break it all down like few can, from his “should-have-been” Heisman Trophy season as a junior at Ohio State in 1984 (he finished 2nd to Doug Flutie) to how he dealt with the devastating injury that dashed the big expectations for him the following season at Ohio State to all things NFL, including what he learned from legendary coaches he played for, including Buddy Ryan, Don Shula and Bill Parcells, and great players he played with, from Reggie White to Dan Marino. Byars shares stories galore from his days at Ohio State, including his influence on former Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel, who coached running backs at Ohio State while Byars was there, in spurring Tressel to become a student of the running game. Byars recalls his excitement at receiving a “spicy” phone call from Woody Hayes as a high school recruit, and his appreciation for the many candid conversations he enjoyed with mentor Hayes while Byars was at Ohio State. Byars shares stories of powerful moments on the field and in the locker room with the fiery Ryan and Parcells, including Parcells's relentless coaching approach to hold every player on the roster accountable, not just the stars or starters. Byars recalls Parcells's reliance on him as a team leader responsible for helping younger players understand what it took to succeed in the NFL, ultimately helping to lead the Parcells-coached Patriots to Byars's only Super Bowl appearance. Byars also shares his perspectives on expectations for Ohio State football this season, indicating that championships are the standard at the school and stressing the importance of restoring the program's winning ways versus rival Michigan (Byars shares a story of being trolled by Jim Harbaugh at a golf tournament in 2021 after Michigan beat Ohio State that year) and again capturing the B1G Championship after a three-year dry spell.

On this day thirteen years ago, Ohio State football's Jim Tressel resigns from the program. Tressel helped bring Ohio State firmly back into national prominence in the college football world by leading the Buckeyes to three National Championship appearances during his tenure, winning it all in 2002 against the loaded Miami Hurricanes that snapped a 34 year title drought for the program. Tressel also went a ridiculous 9-1 against the Michigan Wolverines. Do these accolades result in him being the greatest Buckeye head coach of all time??? Breaking news hit the college football world this morning when the NCAA restored former USC RB Reggie Bush's Heisman. In today's age of regulated NIL and the ability for collegiate athletes to make money while in school, it was only a matter of time for Bush to have his Heisman officially recognized once again. Now, the NCAA needs to do the right thing by Ohio State football. Head coach Jim Tressel and the Buckeye football program had to vacate their wins from the 2010 season after it came to light that five football players (known as the Tattoo 5) sold merchandise and autographs in exchange for free tattoo's after the team's Rose Bowl win. The scandal ultimately led to the firing of Tressel, and while many thought it was wrong at the time, it's even more imperative today to officially recognize those victories.
