They bring back the conversation about Tyrese Haliburton needing to find ways to be more aggressive as a scorer when his team is struggling. (26:48-36:44) – As we do on most Friday’s, Jake and Jimmy take you on a trip around the country for the two-minute drill! We visit Kansas City, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Washington to preview this weekend’s NFL Conference Championship games between the Chiefs/Bills and Commanders/Eagles. (36:44-44:53) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake, Jimmy, and Eddie debating if it would make send for the Pacers to pay Myles Turner, the reported, $30-million-dollars per year that he is coveting. (1:24:19-1:27:22) – Yesterday the Indianapolis Colts made it official that Lou Anarumo will be the team’s next defensive coordinator. Who does it benefit? How is it beneficial to the Colts? On this week's pod, co-hosts Austin Karp and Mollie Cahillane look into the CFP National Championship game's surprising numbers and what may be next for the expanded tournament. The duo is then joined by Bank of America's lead media analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich to talk about how Wall Street is seeing Netflix's place in the sports landscape and how ESPN's Flagship project fits in. Later in the show, Jay Kaufman of NRG drops in to provide deep insight into sports media consumption data and patterns.
In the afterglow of the CFP National Championship Game, former Ohio State Buckeye Ben Hartsock joins Y-Option to share his joy, insight and analysis on the best team in the 2024-25 season, as well as answer the question of “What wins?” when it comes to building a team in college football. As the season concluded, both Jim Thornby and I reflect back on Monday night's game, the longest season in the history of college football and debate whether the regular season is becoming devalued.I also play the “What If” game regarding this Ohio State team against some of the greatest teams of the 21st century: Miami in 2001, USC in 2005, LSU in 2019 or Alabama in 2020. Ultimately, we conclude that it's a rather impossible comparison but one that reminds us that college football is in a new era on various levels. Most importantly, we know it's been a long season and we want to say thank you to all of you for the time and dialogue around our guests and college football through the lens of the West Coast.Much love and stay steady,YogiThis episode is executive produced by Jim Thornby & edited by Victor Ren.This podcast is a Best Coast Media productionY-Option: College Football with Yogi Roth is a reader-supported publication. Dallas will not host the 2029 College Football Playoff title game as it hoped, but the committee in charge of North Texas' bid made that decision. A report from The Action Network's Brett McMurphy Monday said Tampa replaced Dallas as the host city for the game on Jan. 22, 2029 due to a scheduling conflict. However, a person familiar with Dallas' bid told The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday that AT&T Stadium was never awarded the game and the committee withdrew its bid for other reasons last summer. In other news, a federal judge has ordered a Texas white supremacist group to pay $2.75 million to a Black musician who was violently attacked in Boston nearly three years ago; Next up, Dallas company Burger Schmurger will raise money for victims of the Los Angeles fires with a smashburger sale on Jan. 26th at Oak Highlands Brewery. Proceeds will benefit Pasadena Education Foundation, which has a fund supporting students, staff and families in the Pasadena Unified School District. Learn more about your ad choices.
