Here at Team Church, we talk about culture often. Now more than ever before, being a culture carrier matters. Culture is either created by design or by default. Here are some questions we will discuss in this episode today:What is different about the culture conversation now? What does it look like for a leader to be a culture carrier? What areas of your team have slipped that need to be evaluated? We encourage you to continue the conversation and discuss these questions even further with your teams!Team Church Code
We've started an important conversation that represents some new language for church leaders today. On the last episode, we talked about how leadership rises and falls on three distinctives. These three things are leadership essentials you'll never get away from. Everything will fit under these three areas when it comes to being an effective leader. In this episode, we're going to focus on Core Competence. These are the fundamental skills and practices of a great leadership team. Let's dive into these areas and discover how we can improve both individually and collectively as a team.
In this team church episode, we're going to talk about what we refer to as the three leadership distinctives. Everyone's leadership capacity will rise and fall on these three things: Character, Core Competency, and Culture. If we can talk about these core issues and get these things right, we will see stronger leaders, stronger teams, and ultimately stronger churches. Questions to ask yourself: What are some character issues that you can work on in yourself? What are some core competencies that are alive in your team and in yourself? What is some of the culture by design that is working? What are some that need to be addressed?
We're leading and building churches in a season where it seems like no one wants to work. It's a season that's now well known as “The Great Resignation”. When people have negative ideas or attitudes about work, their life tends to be more difficult, less enjoyable, and they have fewer opportunities. But when people embrace work with a positive attitude their life tends to be more full, more enjoyable, and they will have greater opportunities for God to bless them, promote them and prosper them. Let's learn how to lead healthy teams that serve the greatest mission on the planet.
Today's conversation is bold and challenging. This is a topic that must be addressed by Kingdom leaders. There is a difference in the world's approach and the church's approach to the topic of skin color and ethnicity. There is truth and wisdom when we take a Biblical view on this subject. Join Pastor Kevin as he sits down with Pastor Lonnie Keene to discuss Kingdom + Race on this month's podcast episode.
Courage is not optional. Our culture is suffering from truth deprivation and a growing deception that is so far from the word of God. As leaders, we have a responsibility to speak Biblical truths. There is a real need for leaders of courage to rise in our world today and courage is the way we show our loyalty to the Kingdom of God.We sat down with Kevin Gerald to talk more about the God-given authority to pastors and leaders in the church to speak up and what leading with courage practically looks like.
Courage is like a muscle. Just like any muscle, it gets stronger when you exercise it and stays weak when you don't. As we kick off a new year, it's time to get into the leadership gym. Coach K sits down with guests Jason Warman and Dan Lord as they talk about the keys to leading with courage today. It might not be easy. You might not know exactly what to say or do. You might feel scared or lonely in this season, but nobody can do your push-ups for you!
Have you ever felt weary or defeated as a leader? We sat down with Stephen Chandler and Kevin Gerald to talk about some of the ins and outs of leading during this past and present season. As we close this year and head into the next, this conversation will help you see opportunity in every season, lead with conviction and courage, and speak faith for the future. The best days for the church are ahead.
Here at Team Church we love and value the church. The church is God's plan A. There is no plan B. But one area that we need to do some work is creating a bridge between theology and building the local church. Listen in on this talk with Nathan Finochio and Kevin Gerald as they discuss why speaking truth and theology matters for leaders.
Every team watching or listening has experienced some kind of loss or tension this past year. There are wins and there are losses. There are teams and there are players. But not every team has TEAM PLAYERS. Pastor Micah Pelkey helps break down what makes some teams bad and other teams great.
The only way for the church to get better is for the team to get better, and for the team to get better the individual members of the team have to get better. That means you! You must keep improving your personal growth capacity in order to improve the team. In this episode with Pastor Kevin Gerald, we'll give you five areas to work on in your own life. The good news is most of these you can start today! Your attitude towards your workYour personal productivityYour recruitment and training skillsYour communication skillsYour collaboration with others on your teamThen answer this one question: What's one decision you can make today that will stimulate your personal growth?
No one wants to feel stuck—stuck in the past, or stuck in the current. One of the constant themes of scripture is the theme of moving forward. So as leaders we have to remember that God’s not lingering in yesterday, but he wants to help us move forward into tomorrow. In this episode we will discuss five very practical questions you can ask yourself in order to assess your current position as a leader. “To look forward, you have to first face forward.” —Kevin Gerald
Honor is essential to any group that wants to make progress. It's not optional. Everything is better with honor. But our culture today has seen a drift and decay on the subject of honoring authority. We had a chance to bring some young leaders on the podcast to talk with Pastor Kevin about the subject of honoring authority. Here are some of the questions they asked: What is a mistake a leader may make to unintentionally or indirectly dishonor authority? How can we help leaders differentiate between the voices of this world to find the right one so that they can ultimately submit under authority? How would you handle a team members who have come from bad authority backgrounds? Can you speak into the importance of being depended on (by their leader) and following through and also how you teach young leaders about being dependable and responsible without crushing their free spiritedness and creativity?
Today's culture is quick to disrespect authority. It's popular to point out the failures in others. This is one trend that we can't afford to follow. We must let God shape our attitudes about authority. In this episode, Pastor Kevin lays out four steps to honoring authority. Our hope is that this can be a paradigm shift for young leaders and we can begin to move the needle towards honor in our churches and communities.
Covid was the great revealer of our strengths and weaknesses. This month's podcast is a conversation that every team needs to be having as we rebuild our teams coming out of the Covid-era. We're continuing to talk about owning the responsibility of leadership. It's up to us to create environments that cultivate and take care of people.
As we enter the post-covid season, leadership is essential for rebuilding. The greatest barrier in our world today is a leadership barrier. There is a lightbulb moment when we become a leader. It's more than just a title. In fact, a title doesn't make you a leader. In this two-part conversation, we want to fuel your awareness and understanding of the nature of leadership needed moving forward.
Straight out of our Champions Centre staff meeting, Pastor Kevin shares his heart about building leaders for today. There is a great void of leadership in our world and in our churches. If we were to boil down the strife, the issues, and the division in our nation right now, it would come down to leadership. We wanted to share this bonus episode with you and your team as we head into a new year!
Today we're going to continue part two of a conversation with Monique Duson and Kevin Gerald on Biblical Unity, Critical Race Theory, and the local church. The second continuation of this podcast will be practical in nature and give some handles to use when talking about race and justice within the church.
Today we're going to engage in a conversation on Biblical Unity, Critical Race Theory, and the local church. In this conversation, Kevin Gerald interviews Monique Duson from the Center for Biblical Unity, as she brings a powerful and historical Christian view on issues of race and unity. We felt this talk was crucial to have in a season that has seen our world and the local church so polarized by issues of race. Our prayer is to have a conversation that helps us lead with unity at the forefront. The Center for Biblical Unity is an organization which aims to lead respectful and Bible-centered conversations on race and unity. For more information on their organization and resources available, you can find them at https://www.centerforbiblicalunity.com/ As always, it is our goal to help start a discussion with you and your team. Please join us again next month as we continue this conversation!
Being assembled is not the same as being aligned. This season has not just created, but it's exposed the lack of alignment that's been happening in churches around the nation. Our goal in today's talk is to help give you some things we can do to accommodate a season of realignment that will build a foundation for more unified and inspiring season ahead.
The number one strategy the devil uses against the church is always division, but with a plan and a strategy we're always going to win. In this special bonus episode, with Pastor John Morgan, we'll discuss how you can identify division on your team, on your own doorstep, and how to guard against it.
In the midst of social divide and political unrest, we are living in a polarizing season where kingdom culture and politics are colliding. As church leaders, many of us are deciding where to stand and what to do as we lead. In this podcast episode, we're discussing three ways to enhance your focus and prioritize the kingdom over politics. Our priority must be to the great commission, not the platform of a political party. Let's stay focused and continue to point people towards the Jesus way!
Jesus came to earth with one message—the message of the Kingdom. We're currently living in a time of social, racial, and political divide. People feel they must choose sides and fight for those sides. As leaders and Christ-followers, we must always choose the Jesus way. When everyone is fighting for social justice, we must keep fighting for Biblical justice. In this timely Podcast episode, Kevin Gerald, Brandon Stewart, and Joshua Bingle continue the conversation on Kingdom Culture. Let's keep having these conversations to strengthen our teams and lead the Jesus way!
Kingdom Culture can be defined as God's way of doing things. Cancel Culture, on the other hand, is the common practice of withdrawing support from popular figures or companies after they have done something considered objectionable or offensive. Many of us have seen or experienced this in recent times. In this episode we'll unpack the difference between the two and discuss a biblical approach to the culture today. Kingdom culture asks for accountability. Cancel culture wants it's cancelation. Kingdom culture attributes righteousness. Cancel culture asks for personal atonement. Kingdom culture deals with things personally. Cancel culture takes them public. Kingdom culture offers a road map to restoration. Cancel culture leaves people for dead.
As everyone knows, we’re occupying a space in history that is unlike any other. Today we're going to talk about some ways to unify and refocus as a team when the outside world is in chaos and conflict. You can't control people, but you can protect your heart, get close as a team, and unite around the Jesus way.
We sat down with Pastors Kevin Gerald and Earl McClellan to begin a much needed conversation about race. As leaders, we all need to be having these conversations right now. Listen with your team, then open the door for discussion. Church teams and leaders, we are praying for you!
Life is not going to return to the way it was before Coronavirus hit, but there is an opportunity in all of this. As leaders we need to start asking ourselves, "how do we start looking into the future instead of reverting back to the past?" In this Podcast episode, Kevin Gerald shares how this is our time to be innovative as we step into the new life in front of us.
In this special episode we recorded during the Coronavirus, we'll hear from Pastors Kevin and Sheila Gerald a talk specifically for everyone leading during this time. We've never faced something quite like this and we want to help you lead strong as we navigate this season. It's so important for you to be confident in your leadership during this season of uncertainty. Uncertainty can be the hardest time to lead. People are unsure what to do and how to do it. We want to talk about 5 things that position you as a confident leader in your organization.
In this month’s Team Church Podcast, we're continuing with Part 3 of the Naked and Unafraid message for leaders. The focus for this episode is on criticism versus critique. We will begin by talking about how powerful criticism can be and the importance of not avoiding it. We'll break down the differences between the two, and show you how to overcome critics while welcoming critique. We'll even talk about David’s secret sauce to overcoming this battle. By the end of this talk you'll learn to recognize the difference between the two, and if you grab a hold of this, it will have a huge impact on your life and how you live it.
If you’ve ever been afraid to fail, nervous about rejection, worried about what others think, or anything that could cause you to fence yourself in, then this conversation is for you! We'll continue talking through Pastor Kevin’s new book and today we discuss abandoning smallness. In Corinthians, Paul talks about living a wide-open, spacious life—one where we’re not fenced in and can live freely.
In this month’s podcast, get an inside look at Pastor Kevin’s new book, Naked and Unafraid—5 Keys to Abandon Smallness, Overcome Criticism, and Be All That You Were Meant to Be. The book is based out of the story of King David dancing in the street while his wife was watching from the window criticizing him. We all have the choice to be a street dancer or a window watcher. Pastor Kevin talks about the release of his new book, gives examples of what it looks like when a team is leading from a place of internal smallness (9:06), what the bigger me sounds like (15:06), risking exposure (19:00), being vulnerable (23:36), and telling us what street dancing looks like on our teams (24:50).
Every person, every leader, will find themselves in a season of transition at some point. It’s important that we get this right when the time comes. In this episode, we'll discuss the keys to positive transitions.
We pick up right where we left off last month in our conversation about the Team Church Code. This month, the statements that we talk through are, “We abandon smallness” (3:24), “We are undeterred by offense” (12:55), “We starts with me” (18:26), and “We move church forward” (22:15). We hope this helps you continue building a framework for your own code.
What is your code? At the core of every person or every team, exists some sort of code. We gave language to ours and wrote it down. Today, is part one of our discussion about the Team Church Code and we hope that this code is something that can be reflected in the hearts of our team church tribe. The statements that we discuss today in part one are “We go together, not alone” (2:09), “We are undivided” (8:12), and “We let the best idea win” (16:50). Use our conversation with your own team to start a discussion about what your code is. Take ours and put it into practice with your own teams, or just use ours as a framework, but start putting language to who you are as a team.
You are incredible. No really, you are! This month’s episode is all about encouragement. Something seemingly so small, could very possibly be the thing that will take your team and your culture to the next level. We talk about creating a culture of encouragement in your organization (3:15) and give you five points about encouragement (13:44). Listen to this episode, talk with your teams, and tell somebody how incredible they are!
In this podcast, we pull from one of the points of our very first episode. That is, the speed with which you lead. We chat for a bit on the dumb dichotomy of “getting it right” vs “doing it fast” (1:32) and explain that this is not a one or the other situation. We should strive to get things right, while doing it fast. We follow that up by giving you three reasons why we lead fast (9:53), talk about urgency (19:02), and close things up by guiding you and your teams to ask each other, “What can I do, and what can we do, to increase speed?” (21:45).
Individual leadership won’t get you very far. In the first episode, Kevin Gerald talks about some of the keys to leading like a team.
