Countdown #373   Wayne has recovered from COVID (three cheers!), so the boys are back together with The Soundboard joining them to countdown the very best thrillers of the Noughties - aka 2000 to 2009.   For this Ep, the guys have decided to celebrate some over-looked or lesser- known thrillers rather than championing the same ten films you'd expect from each of them. Sure, there's still a couple of predictable titles in here, but otherwise, steel yourselves for some foreign language choices (from Paul) and one featuring Halle Berry topless (from Wayne).   That probably sums it up best, as The Countdown continues ...   Check out the show's first draft of a website for your one-stop shop for all things related to The Countdown. The old adage of the show must go on has never been more apt for The Countdown as Wayne pushes through COVID to highlight some of the finer indie films of the last decade or so in this celebration of the very best A24 studio films.  Of course, the guys had to record this week's episode remotely due to Wayne's positive status, and that means the show is minus its third and most valued member, The Soundboard. Wayne, shockingly, thinks this is the highlight of his week, while Paul appropriately commemorates their fallen colleague and wishes it a speedy return. Beyond that, there's plenty of indie films, some consternation, and a surprising amount of good-natured agreement (Wayne really must be sick!), as The Countdown continues ...   Check out the show's first draft of a website for your one-stop shop for all things related to The Countdown.   Livestream for the Cure is on May 19th - 21st American time. Countdown #363   This week with thanks to top level Patron, Cy Wewzow, the boys are counting down the worst ever films produced (or co-produced) by the Cannon Film Group!   Now Cannon aren't well renowned for their scrupulous practices or their fantastic films, but they certainly knew how to churn out a film to home video back in the '80s, and of course, some of them were putrid piles of stinky kitty litter. That's where Paul and Wayne come in: To expose themselves to the worst of these atrocities and save you, good listener, from having to do the same.   Will Wayne betray his Ninja heritage and denounce several films featuring that most mysterious of martial arts practicing characters? Can Paul overcome the trauma inflicted upon him by recent guest appearances on the Binge Movies podcast covering far too many Cannon films. And will this many terrible films break both co-hosts mentally?   Find out as The Countdown continues ...   Check out the show's first draft of a website for your one-stop shop for all things related to The Countdown. Countdown #361   Top level Patron to the show, Geordie Davidson, furnished the boys with this week's topic: The Top 10 Neo-Noir films. Actually, he wanted the guys to do the Top 10 Noir Films, but given they could barely muster ten that they'd seen between then that pre-dated 1960, the philistines instead brokered the topic to be a little more contemporary.   Anyway, to make it harder, Wayne somehow talked Paul into only counting films that displayed a prominent use of shadow, featured a protagonist in over their heads, and employed a femme fatale character in a major role. The problem being this made it way TOO hard, and this Episode is the result of TRYING to meet this brief...   Will Paul and Wayne maintain their cordial cease fire at one another given the difficulty of the topic? Hawkeye review

Disney+ has finished dropping eps of its last MCU series for 2021, meaning the boys can now give their thoughts on Hawkeye.   Wayne has seen the whole thing, while Paul only managed to get through the first four eps in time for this recording. As such, Paul leaves Wayne all on his own for most of the spoiler-filled part of the review, so who knows how far off the rails this one really goes?   But off the rails it does leap because one of the guys enjoyed Jeremy Renner's turn in the spotlight and one did not. It's probably pretty obvious whom is whom, but will one be able to change the other's opinion? Or will no ground be given?   Learn the answers to questions and so much more, as The Countdown continues ...   Time Stamps Hawkeye NON-SPOILER Review: 0:00 - 10:52 Hawkeye SPOILER-FILLED Discussion: 10:52 - 20:34 Final Thoughts Including Potential Spoilers: 20:34 - 21:15   Find so many more Countdowns and reviews - all the way back to Episode 40! - on our Podbean site. Countdown #352   It's (apparently) the most wonderful time of the year, and to celebrate the end of 2021 and the fact that most people have holidays of some description for this event, the boys are recommending some wholesome family entertainment for you in the form of the Top 10 Live-Action Disney films.   Live-action, of course, means no animation through the film (though special effects are permitted), so wait and see how long it takes for Wayne to throw a film out that 100% has animation in every scene. But is Paul any better? Has he also disregarded the brief with one of his picks?   Listen in to decide as 2021 comes to a close, but The Countdown continues ...   Find so many more Countdowns - all the way back to Episode 40! - on our Podbean site.   Head on over to the show's Patreon to see what you're missing!   Join The Countdown Podcast Listener Community on Facebook so you can interact more directly with Paul and Wayne and vote in the weekly poll for who has the best list!   And finally, how about some Countdown merch? Dune (2021) review

The old school sci-fi nerds have frothed hard enough to have willed it into existence and it is finally here. The new, big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi classic, Dune, has made its way to Australia courtesy of acclaimed director, Denis Villeneuve, and a huge cast of stars, and the boys are donning their stillsuits to check it out.   One of them has a vision about the film being a pure cinematic achievement and one of the year's best? While the other is all pale and bulky and screams orders while kowtowing to his uncle? There's plenty of carnage in this review for this sequel to Sony's inexplicably smash-hit, Venom, as Paul (in particular) tees off on one of the worst superhero films he can recall seeing.
