Dann geht's um Over Your Dead Body – das US-Remake des norwegischen Originals The Trip. This week, Jordan and I (Sam) start on a wing and a prayer with PROPELLER ONE-WAY NIGHT COACH, Rue EUPHORIA - SEASON 3, engage in MORTAL KOMBAT II as we contemplate the Babalities of evil, orcastrate an appraisal of KILLER WHALE, breach Homelander security with THE BOYS - SEASON 5, get Apepleptic over LEE CRONIN'S THE MUMMY, Pe-lé into BALLS UP, offer a public investigation of SPIDER-NOIR and scrutinise the sketchy SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE UK.
In this Mortal Kombat II film review, I dive into the action, fantasy, fan service, and messy storytelling behind the 2026 sequel. From Johnny Cage and Shao Kahn to Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, and Kano, we talk about what works, what misses, and why this movie is still a hit for fans.
Adeline Rudolph just made quite the leap as far as video game adaptations go. While things didn't pan out well for Netflix's Resident Evil series, which was canceled after just one season in 2022, Mortal Kombat II is cruising at the box office. In 2021, director Simon McQuoid kicked off a new iteration of Mortal Kombat feature films with a movie focused on Cole Young (Lewis Tan) that also included a slew of other fan-favorite characters like Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), and many more. Rudolph didn't just join that ensemble via 2026's Mortal Kombat II. She headlines the film opposite Karl Urban's Johnny Cage. While Johnny Cage's evolution is the focal point of the Earth Realm storyline, Kitana's experience is the heart and soul of the Outworld material and, ultimately, it's Kitana who brings the two sides together. In celebration of Mortal Kombat II's wide release, Rudolph swung by the Collider Ladies Night studio to discuss her journey as an actor thus far, including making her screen debut via The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and lessons learned from Netflix's Resident Evil that she was able to apply to Mortal Kombat II. She also offered up some behind-the-scenes insight into all of Kitana's biggest moments in the movie, which included the film's final shot — all the main characters joining forces to bring back fallen champions. For episode 294, I'm joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes on Emmy season content and, of course, TV Topics. This time around, we're beginning the conversation about Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day. My rave review can be found here, and we talk a bit about my Spielberg movie ranking to be published on Friday, but this is just the start of our chat here. Next week, we'll get deeper into it, so prepare for at least light spoilers then. Myles has caught up with Masters of the Universe (my review is here) and Mortal Kombat II (reviewed here), so we discuss those, as well as Backrooms, which I've caught up on and reviewed here. Plus, I've seen Scary Movie (reviewed here), so that leads to a section on spoof movies. There's also some brief Tribeca talk, centered on In Memoriam, which I raved about here. Throw in a few of your questions and it's a rather focused episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 294th one to date (here's to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. More to come each and every single week, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening!
Episode 451: The Crew's out of town working this week, so Brian and his wife review some film adaptations/reimagining/remakes of old video games and cartoons. The Mortal Kombat II movie came out… several weeks ago, apparently, but MK Fever is still raging at Zero Issues Central! We finally all saw the movie, so now it’s time to talk all about it! Does it hold up to the mighty 1995 Klassic? What characters and fights were a flawless fatality or a fatal blow to the series? And what of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage? And our favourite character, Cole Young!? But we’ve got a lot more Kombat to Konversate about! We dig into tournaments as a storytelling function, their long history in comics, games, and movies, and the ever-present shadow of “Enter the Dragon”. We match up some Krossover Kombatants, pitting the MK Krew against comic heroes, then dig into the history of Mortal Kombat comics… which is still mostly Malibu’s 1990s MK line, so why hasn’t anyone else done much with this franchise since? And we have a Casting Call for a whole bunch of MK characters — but they have to be actors from John Carpenter movies! That’s right, we’ve got “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as Johnny Cage! James Hong as Shang Tsung! Keith David as Scorpion! Wilford Brimley as Kano! Ernest Borgnine as Goro! And that’s just the tip of the Event Tower. Direct Download: MP3

In this completely NON-SPOILER review, Wayne is again off to the cinema himself to review the second film in the 2020s version of a game he grew up pumping free credits into (not a euphemism) for himself and his friends. How does this compare to the '90s films and is it better than the 2021 original in this series? Paul, meanwhile, hasn't see the film at the time of recording, so he's all about the questions and insisting Wayne spoils nothing! If you want more Countdowns and reviews - all the way back to Episode 40! - hit up our Podbean site. Check out Wayne's YouTube channel for more Wayne-esque content at Waxing & Wayning. "The Basque region..." Mike went to see Mortal Kombat II, and while he and the rest of the group were at the movie, Amin did the unthinkable. Zaslow is headed to Rolling Loud with his son this weekend, and while that's important, the Cyclones' title game tonight has taken over the discourse. Plus, what should the Miami Heat do if they get the No. 1 pick? Should they take a player or trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo? Today's cast: Jonathan Zaslow, Dave Dameshek, Chris Cote, Amin Elhassan, Jeremy Tache, Mike Ryan, and Roy Bellamy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Mortal Kombat II brings back more of the unforgettable characters you might have grown up eviscerating. Based on the ultra-violent video game franchise, it centers the story on warrior princess Kitana (Adeline Rudolph) and washed-up action star Johnny Cage (Karl Urban). And of course, there's fighting. Lots and lots of fighting.
