In this episode, Chris Cochrane guest-hosts for his brother Ray and devotes the whole show to one event: Disney’s D23 2026 fan convention in Anaheim. Friday night delivered Marvel’s new X-Men cast, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, a fresh Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and a release date for Frozen 3. Saturday turned to the parks, with Villains Land, an Indiana Jones dark ride, the long-awaited Expedition Everest yeti repair, and a Monsters Inc land opening in 2027. – Want to start a podcast? Instead of six or eight unrelated stories, the entire episode covers Disney’s D23 convention, which he compares to Apple’s WWDC. For newcomers, he notes that D23 is Disney’s official fan club, named for the company’s founding year of 1923. This year’s event ran two nights at the Honda Center: Friday for movies and television, Saturday for the theme parks. Marvel Finally Casts the X-Men Friday’s headline was the X-Men. The Associated Press put the crowd near 12,000, and Marvel Studios used that stage to name its rebooted team. Christopher Abbott plays Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, and Maya Boyd plays Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the group as the villain Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor, and Sadie Sink were already known as Emma Frost, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Jake Schreier directs, and the film arrives May 5, 2028. Chris calls the lineup spot-on casting. He singles out Weaving as a perfect match for the comics, and he points out that Sink already appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Navarrette is the least established name, coming off a breakout role in an indie horror film. Boyd, meanwhile, was the name he knew least, with what he believes is a Broadway background. Above all, Chris hopes Marvel does the team justice, and he recommends the animated revival X-Men ’97 on Disney+ as the best place to start. Frozen 3 Gets a Date and a Chaotic Reveal Frozen 3 lands November 24, 2027. That is the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, the same slot the first two films used. The story centers on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, which a new villain, an evil Ice Queen, disrupts. Jennifer Lee returns to direct with Trent Correy, and the full voice cast is back. However, the reveal itself fell apart. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a darker arrangement of “Frozen Heart.” Meanwhile, the audio failed, the video failed, and a set of doors never opened. Menzel asked the crowd whether they should try it again, and Bell simply narrated everything that was supposed to happen. Afterward, Josh Gad sang “Oooh, Samantha,” a new love song for Olaf. Chris is here for it, since Olaf is one of the franchise’s best comic characters. Pixar, Disney Animation, and the Rest of Friday Night Pixar chief Pete Docter laid out a packed slate. Incredibles 3 hits summer 2028 and follows Violet and Dash sneaking out at night to fight crime. Chris hopes that finally shows a grown-up Jack-Jack. Coco 2 follows in November 2029 with Benjamin Bratt returning as Ernesto de la Cruz. That has fans puzzling over how a villain already in the Land of the Dead comes back. Additionally, Pixar showed an original called Ghost Market and a Venice-set cat film called Gatto. On the Disney Animation side, Zootopia 3 is confirmed. The live-action Tangled arrives March 31, 2028 with Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Chris considers that casting perfect after her turn in Agatha All Along. A live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, a new Simpsons movie, a Bluey movie, and a Kingdom Hearts anime series round out the list. For Star Wars fans, Ahsoka returns January 20, 2027. Chris also offers a hot take: he prefers Rogue One to the entire sequel trilogy. Consequently, he welcomes original stories like Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Starfighter. Adam Driver Is Mister Sinister Driver appeared by video rather than in person. He told the crowd that he and Kevin Feige had talked for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then he announced he would play Magneto. After a long pause, he corrected himself to Nathaniel Milbury, which is Mister Sinister’s human alias. The gag landed because fans had floated Driver for Magneto for years. For anyone new to the comics, Chris explains that Mister Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA, a manipulator rather than a brawler. The cast met backstage only minutes earlier, so Chris is curious how their chemistry develops. Notably, Christopher Abbott previously worked with Driver on HBO’s Girls. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo, two prestige-television names that have Chris excited. Why the X-Men Took Thirty Years to Reach the MCU A business story underlies the casting. In the 1990s, a financially struggling Marvel sold film rights to raise cash. Fox ended up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and Sony took Spider-Man. As a result, Marvel Studios built its connected universe from 2008 onward without some of its most famous characters. The Hugh Jackman era of X-Men films belonged to Fox, with a separate continuity and no crossovers. That changed in 2019, when Disney closed its $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studio. Most coverage framed the deal as a streaming play, but it also brought the X-Men home. Chris sums it up neatly: Disney signed the paperwork in 2019, cast the film in 2026, and audiences see it in 2028. Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter, Ghost Rider, and VisionQuest Lucasfilm dated Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Gosling plays Kade Auberon, a pilot from the wrong side of the galaxy tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. Before he walked out, Disney played clips of him as a kid on The Mickey Mouse Club. Gosling said the company changed his life then and is changing it again now. He is also playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel universe. That thrills Chris, since Nicolas Cage last carried the character on the big screen. Meanwhile, the Disney+ series VisionQuest arrives October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, and the trailer drops the two androids into oddly mundane human situations. Bettany joked that Vision has “rather inconveniently died several times.” Chris agrees the character has been through the wringer since WandaVision. The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell introduced the new footage. It offers the clearest look yet at Downey as Doctor Doom, who fights off Thor and takes his hammer. Evans appears as Captain America holding a baby, and Ian McKellen shows up as a haggard, long-haired Magneto. One quieter shot has Doom staring at a portrait of a lost wife and child. That frames him as a grieving avenger rather than a world-ender. He also commands an army of comic-accurate Sentinels. The cast pulls from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the legacy Fox X-Men, including Patrick Stewart. Hugh Jackman also appeared on screen to say he is willing to return as Wolverine, though that was not a confirmation. Chris, a self-described Marvel nerd, closes with a theory. He suspects the MCU’s Tony Stark was actually Victor von Doom, adopted by the Starks, which would explain the Downey casting. He also predicts the Fox-era X-Men die off in this film and that Thor may be the major casualty. If it happens, he wants credit for calling it. Disney Parks Around the World Saturday’s Disney Experiences showcase covered parks, resorts, and cruise ships, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Hong Kong Disneyland gets an Avengers pavilion that reshapes its Stark Expo skyline. Shanghai Disneyland is building the first land devoted entirely to Spider-Man, complete with a new coaster. Since Spider-Man is his favorite hero, Chris hopes to visit once it opens. Closer to home, Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is doubling in size with two rides opening in 2028. Avengers: Infinity Defense brings back Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, and Downey, while Stark Flight Lab adds Brie Larson. A Coco boat ride into the Land of the Dead is also coming, with no height requirement. Chris admits he prefers California Adventure to Disneyland because the rides are better. Overseas, Disneyland Paris will retire its Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay at the end of 2027 and restore the original Jules Verne theme. Paris also gets the first ride ever based on The Lion King. Tokyo Disneyland adds Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph ride, plus a Space Mountain launch sequence designed with YouTuber Mark Rober. Finally, Disney Cruise Line announced three more ships, including the Disney Believe in 2027 and an entirely new class in 2029. Back in Anaheim, Tomorrowland is getting reimagined, which Chris welcomes because the land badly needs an update. The Magic Happens parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks are both returning. For the tech crowd, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has a Fortnite crossover, where in-game missions unlock content on the real ride. Every New Walt Disney World Ride and Land Chris ranks the Florida parks Hollywood Studios first, then Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom leads the announcements with Villains Land, now the official name. It features a Maleficent coaster through an enchanted briar and a boat ride through the Evil Queen’s catacombs. Reporting puts its scale near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Glenn Close appeared in character as Cruella to announce it. Piston Peak, the Cars area replacing Tom Sawyer Island, adds two more rides, though their exact names remain unsettled. Additionally, the Carousel of Progress gets new scenes and a recast. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mom and Dad starting late spring 2027. Chris, invoking Heisenberg, calls Cranston the GOAT. At Animal Kingdom, the Indiana Jones ride now has a name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It tells an original 1950 story inside a Maya temple, and Harrison Ford personally served as the physical model for the animatronic. Nearby, the Tropical Americas land brings Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, with more than fifty animal animatronics and no height requirement. Then comes the fix park regulars have wanted for years. The Expedition Everest yeti broke soon after the ride opened. Rather than fix it, Disney lit it with a strobe for over a decade, earning the nickname disco yeti. Now it is being repaired and returned to full motion. Chris rates Everest among his top five rides anywhere, and he suggests riding it before the fix so you can compare. Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth gets its first major story rewrite in nearly twenty years, shifting from communication history to human connection. Dreamfinder also returns to Journey Into Imagination, and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum introduced that news with two words: “we heard you.” Mazloum added that Disney has more projects underway than at any point in its history. After this rundown, Chris believes him. Monsters Inc Land Opens in 2027 Monstropolis begins opening at Hollywood Studios in early 2027, but in stages. The headline door coaster will not be ready on day one. It is the first suspended coaster in any Disney park. It also uses Disney’s first vertical lift, hauling riders about forty feet straight up before launching them into the door vault. Instead, the land opens with the Glob Theater’s “Welcome to Monstropolis” show and Harryhausen’s, a working sushi restaurant lifted from the first film. The stage show features an original song by Randy Newman, his first ever written for a theme park attraction. Chris also notes that the restaurant name honors stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Wrapping up, Chris names the X-Men casting and the Doomsday trailer as his favorite moments of the weekend. He hopes to cover more movie news on future shows, and he plugs Dune: Part Three, which also opens December 18. Chris signs off with the usual mentions: GNC Insider at geeknewscentral.com/insider, email at geeknews@gmail.com, the newsletter, and modern podcast apps at podcastapps.com. He also thanks GoDaddy for over twenty years of support. The post Huge Announcements From D23!! #1873 appeared first on Geek News Central.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Highlights: What Fans Need to Know Are you ready for the latest buzz from San Diego Comic-Con? In this post, we'll recap the major announcements, trailers, and surprises from one of the most exciting weekends in pop culture. Comic-Con 2026 has proven to be a standout event, particularly for Marvel and its competitors, as they unveiled thrilling new projects that promise to captivate fans. Let's dive into what made this Comic-Con unforgettable! Marvel Takes Center Stage Marvel absolutely dominated Comic-Con 2026, showcasing their upcoming projects with excitement and flair. One of the most talked-about announcements was Ryan Gosling’s role as Ghost Rider. This unexpected casting choice has fans buzzing, as Gosling’s range as an actor could bring a fresh take on the iconic character. His ability to convey both depth and intensity might just make him the perfect fit for Johnny Blaze. Why Ghost Rider Matters Ghost Rider has historically been a challenging character to adapt, with past attempts falling flat. However, Marvel’s current trajectory suggests they are ready to tackle this supernatural hero with the seriousness it deserves. The involvement of director Sean Levy, known for his work on Deadpool, adds an extra layer of confidence to this project. With Marvel expanding its supernatural universe, Ghost Rider could become a pivotal character alongside titles like Moon Knight and Blade. The Avengers Assemble Again Marvel also revealed extended footage from the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. While details remain under wraps, early reactions suggest that Doctor Doom will emerge as a formidable villain, and fans are eager to see how the X-Men will integrate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Notably, Peggy Carter's return and Deadpool's surprise appearance during the presentation left audiences electrified, proving that Marvel knows how to create memorable moments that resonate with fans. DC Strikes Back While Marvel stole the spotlight, DC made significant strides with their presentation of the Lanterns series. This new direction appears to focus on mystery and character development, moving away from the big-budget spectacles that have defined past DC films. By exploring a detective story featuring Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, DC seems poised to offer a fresh perspective that could redefine its cinematic universe. The Importance of a Strong Narrative This approach signifies a shift in DC’s strategy, emphasizing storytelling over spectacle. By leaning into character-driven narratives, DC might finally capture the essence of what makes their heroes compelling. The potential for rich storytelling in the Lanterns series could set a new standard for future DC projects. Apple TV Plus Emerges as a Sci-Fi Contender Apple TV Plus has quietly become a contender in the science fiction genre, showcasing series like Foundation, Silo, and the newly announced Necromancer. This platform’s commitment to intelligent storytelling is commendable, as they invest in unique narratives rather than relying solely on existing franchises. Necromancer, in particular, has garnered attention for its long-awaited adaptation of a beloved cyberpunk classic, raising expectations for high-quality content. The Future of Sci-Fi As we look ahead, the success of these franchises suggests a promising future for science fiction in film and television. With increased competition among studios, fans can expect more innovative storytelling and diverse genres. The combination of established IPs and fresh ideas is bound to lead to exciting developments, ensuring that Comic-Con continues to be a launching pad for the next big hits in pop culture. Conclusion San Diego Comic-Con 2026 was a whirlwind of excitement, showcasing the best of what's to come in the realms of sci-fi and superhero storytelling. With Marvel leading the charge and DC reimagining its approach, fans have much to look forward to in the coming years. Whether you're a die-hard superhero fan or a casual viewer, there's something for everyone to be excited about. Share your favorite moments from Comic-Con with us, and stay tuned for future updates! Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Marvel Studios capped San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday with one of its most crowded Hall H panels ever, delivering a night of reveals that stretched the studio's slate all the way through 2028:Attendees were treated to an exclusive Avengers: Doomsday trailer that has not been released online and affirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars would be a singular film, not split into two parts as speculated. Kevin Feige also announced that Avengers: Endgame returns to theaters September 25 with new footage connecting it to Doomsday ahead of its December 18 release.Ryan Gosling took the stage as Marvel's new Ghost Rider, set to star as Johnny Blaze in a 2028 film to be directed by Shawn Levy. Gosling told the crowd, “this is a character I've wanted to play for a very long time.”Ryan Coogler revealed a December 15, 2028 release date for Black Panther 3 and introduced David Jonsson as a grown-up T'Challa II, the son of T'Challa first glimpsed at the end of Wakanda Forever. Jonsson kept his remarks short, saying he wants to let the screen do the talking. While notably absent from the SDCC proceedings, on Friday DC Studios and HBO debuted the official full trailer for Lanterns, which premieres August 16 on HBO Max. The footage leans into Green Lantern lore for the first time, with Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan reciting the complete oath, Ulrich Thomsen appearing as an imprisoned Sinestro, Nathan Fillion cameoing as Guy Gardner, and the robotic Manhunters revealed as the season's central threat. The studio's trailer train kept rolling outside the convention as well, with the release of a full trailer for Clayface, starring Tom Rhys Harries, ahead of its October 23 theatrical debut. Between a cosmic HBO mystery and a horror-leaning theatrical swing, is DC's growing range its biggest strength heading into the fall?Prime Video revealed the full trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season three, confirming a November 11 return and that Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, which speaks on screen for the first time.Prime Video also dropped the first trailer for Blade Runner 2099, a limited series set after the events of the first two films, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer and streaming November 25.Insomniac Games debuted the official story trailer for Marvel's Wolverine at its own Comic-Con panel, ahead of the game's September 15 launch on PS5.Prime Video revealed that House of the Dragon's Matthew Needham will voice The Joker in season two of Batman: Caped Crusader, which begins streaming July 31.At San Diego Comic Con, The Marvels and WandaVision star Teyonah Parris was asked by Deadline about the future of her character Monica Rambeau in the MCU and she responded “I miss Monica as much as you guys do. This week on Bad Dads Film Review, the dads head into deep space for Project Hail Mary — a Ryan Gosling-led Andy Weir adaptation about astrophage, reluctant heroism, alien engineering, musical communication and the most loveable rock-spider in modern sci-fi.What we coveredThe return to Podcast Mountain after a week off, with Sidey explaining why recent recording plans went slightly sideways.Sidey and Reegs seeing The Streets at Alexandra Palace, immediately considering Iceland, and generally having a far better time than Sidey later had in Malta.Malta being very hot, not especially relaxing, and a strong avoid unless you are on the picturesque ferry to Gozo.Family hotel movie nights, including a MonsterVerse run and the crushing parental disappointment of Raiders of the Lost Ark being switched off for being boring.Ryan Gosling news from Comic-Con, including Ghost Rider, Star Wars, and whether anyone can make Ghost Rider look good on screen.Gosling's range: Only God Forgives, Lars and the Real Girl, The Gray Man, blockbuster charm and oddball credibility.Andy Weir, The Martian, and why the dads respond to optimistic science-problem movies where clever people solve practical disasters. The central crisis: astrophage is eating the Sun's energy, reducing solar output and threatening Earth. The Hail Mary mission as humanity's last desperate throw, sent to Tau Ceti because that system appears mysteriously resistant to the astrophage problem.Ryland Grace waking from stasis with no memory, dead crewmates, a HAL-like computer and a beard that suggests deep-space personal care needs work. The flashbacks revealing Grace as a molecular biologist turned school teacher recruited by Eva Stratt to help understand astrophage. The moral ugliness of Grace not volunteering for the suicide mission, then being sedated and sent anyway after the intended crew are killed. The grim Earthside stakes: collapsing sunlight, food-chain panic, frightened children and governments handing Stratt extraordinary power.First contact with Rocky, the engineer from Erid whose own planet is facing the same astrophage disaster.Rocky's musical language, the translation process, and the dads' comparison with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The two-ship friendship: different atmospheres, pressure barriers, xenonite tunnels and two scientists learning to trust each other through diagrams and experiments.Rocky's look: rock-like, spider-like, toy-like and somehow instantly endearing. The discovery of taumoeba, the organism that eats astrophage and offers a possible solution for both Earth and Erid.Rocky saving Grace at huge personal risk, then Grace choosing to use his remaining fuel to save Rocky when he realises Rocky's ship is in danger. The film's optimistic message: cooperation across species, cultures and worlds is the only thing that saves anyone.Grace ending up on Erid, teaching alien children about Earth, and the dads enjoying the full-circle return to teaching. The reported $200 million budget, worldwide box office heading toward $700 million, UK-built Hail Mary sets, and Gosling's likely “double bubble” as star and producer.Key moments / quotesSidey says “hopes were high for Project Hail Mary” because of the Gosling/Andy Weir pedigree.Dan explains the title through American football: the last desperate throw into the end zone. The dads note that Grace “didn't fucking volunteer”, which makes Earth's plan morally spicy even if the stakes are existential.Rocky's musical tones immediately bring Close Encounters to mind. The group enjoy the idea of a sci-fi film built around “scientist guy figuring shit out”.Cris appreciates that the film is warmer and more colourful than the bleaker spaceship sci-fi he usually struggles with.Sidey reads the Grace/Rocky relationship as a story about different worlds working together on the same problem.Cris highlights the happy ending, the little rock children and the satisfying “don't go back / actually he should go back” emotional turn.Sidey notes the film has done serious box office business against a huge production budget. The final verdict lands simply: “Strong? Strong. Strong. Yeah. Strong.”VerdictThe dads give Project Hail Mary a unanimous strong recommend. They respond to the Andy Weir problem-solving structure, Ryan Gosling's easy likeability, the film's optimistic tone, and especially Rocky — an alien sidekick/friend/co-scientist who turns the film from simple survival story into something warmer and more memorable. It is big-budget, accessible sci-fi with a hopeful streak: funny, emotional, smart enough to feel satisfying, and powered by the very Bad Dads-friendly idea that cooperation beats panic, even when the Sun is being eaten. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. Jennifer Garner swore she was only popping by the Suddenly 30 set to maybe sneak into a background shot, so why has she been papped in full Jenna Rink mode? We're unpacking the leaked photos she very much didn't want getting out, and what her surprise return (alongside another very familiar face) actually means for the reboot.Plus, MAFS gave us its one real fairytale this year: a genuine proposal, an actual engagement, a couple who seemed to make it. And now it's over, with one half saying they were completely blindsided. We're getting into who ended it, and the very specific reality-TV formula behind how the news dropped.Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling has finally won his decade-long war against the La La Land poster, and we're outraged. Erasing iconic cinema over one self-conscious hand? We're explaining why it's a dangerous precedent, and why complaining might've been his biggest mistake. Auckland's Spark Arena has been placed in the top 20 arenas in the world. Spark Arena's been recognised for its versatility - allowing attendee numbers from 25-hundred, all the way up to more than 12,000. Spark Arena general manager Mark Gosling says it's 'fantastic' that the venue's getting recognition. "Inside the arena, we have a very complicated curtain track system that basically allows us to kind of curtain down the building, so that people who come to a show when there may only be 4,000 or 5,000 people there think that the show's sold out." Message Dan and MikeFour months ago we did a first look on Project Hail Mary and walked away genuinely excited. Now that we've seen it — Dan nearly three times, Mike once — we're ready to give it a full review.Ryan Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a molecular biologist moonlighting as a middle school teacher who wakes up alone in deep space, no memory intact, on what amounts to a suicide mission to save Earth from extinction. The film is dense and ambitious, and once it finds its footing — roughly an hour in when Grace meets the alien life form Rocky — it becomes something pretty special. We talk about what Lord and Miller pulled off here given the scope of the production, Gosling's continued growth as one of the most versatile actors working today, and the inspired work from puppeteer James Ortiz and his team of five (the Rocketeers) in bringing Rocky to life. We also get into the book-to-film changes, the runtime debate (the first cut was reportedly three and a half hours), cinematographer Greig Fraser's contributions, Sandra Hüller's Eva Stratt, and an unexpected Meryl Streep cameo that earns its laughs. We draw comparisons to The Martian, weigh in on the ratings discrepancy between Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, and debate whether a sequel is even a good idea. Dan recommends it. Mike calls it a great family film. We both agree it could have been tightened.Project Hail Mary is streaming now on MGM+/Amazon Prime Video and may still be playing in select theaters near you.Support the showOh Brother Podcast:Support the Show! This week on Born to Watch, the boys boldly go where they rarely venture, into the world of brand-new cinema, with their Project Hail Mary Movie Review. Based on Andy Weir's bestselling novel and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, this 2026 sci-fi epic arrives with huge expectations, a massive budget, and one very important question: can modern Hollywood still make crowd-pleasing blockbuster entertainment that leaves audiences smiling?Whitey, Damo and special guest Will the Worky strap themselves into the Hail Mary spacecraft and dive headfirst into one of the biggest films of the year. With Ryan Gosling leading the charge as Ryland Grace, a reluctant hero tasked with saving humanity from extinction, the crew break down a film that combines hard science, emotional storytelling, spectacular visuals and a surprising amount of humour. The boys discuss their experiences seeing the film on the big screen and whether Project Hail Mary is exactly the kind of cinematic event modern audiences have been craving. In an era where many blockbuster films come and go without leaving a lasting impression, this one feels different. It has heart, humour, intelligence, and a genuine sense of wonder that recalls the classic Spielberg and Lucas adventures of decades past. One of the major talking points is Ryan Gosling's performance. Already one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Gosling continues to prove that he can effortlessly jump between drama, comedy and action. From The Nice Guys to Barbie, he has become one of the few modern actors who are completely willing to take the piss out of themselves, and the Born to Watch crew debate whether anyone in Hollywood currently does it better.Of course, no discussion of Project Hail Mary would be complete without talking about Rocky. The mysterious alien engineer quickly became a fan favourite after the book's release, and the boys examine why Grace and Rocky's relationship forms the emotional core of the entire film. What could have been a simple science-fiction adventure evolves into a story about friendship, sacrifice and finding the courage to do the right thing when everything is on the line. Will brings his unique perspective to the conversation after recently finishing the novel, comparing key elements of the book and film while highlighting what made Andy Weir's source material so compelling in the first place. The team also dives into the science behind the story, exploring the concept of astrophage, interstellar travel and whether the movie's scientific ideas hold up under scrutiny. As always, the discussion goes far beyond the movie itself. There are debates about modern cinema, movie-going habits, blockbuster filmmaking, favourite Ryan Gosling performances, German stoicism, Bunnings sausage sandwiches and plenty of classic Born to Watch chaos along the way.The boys also explore the emotional journey of Ryland Grace, from a brilliant scientist hiding from responsibility to a man willing to sacrifice everything for a friend. It is this character arc that elevates Project Hail Mary above standard blockbuster fare and transforms it into something genuinely memorable. So is Project Hail Mary the best movie of 2026 so far? Does it belong alongside modern sci-fi classics like Aliens? And can a giant alien rock really make grown adults emotional? There is only one way to find out.Join the MissionHave you read the book?Did the movie live up to your expectations? Is Ryan Gosling the most likable movie star in Hollywood?Where does Project Hail Mary rank among the best sci-fi films of the last decade?Let us know in the comments and join the conversation. If you love movie reviews, blockbuster debates, sci-fi adventures and plenty of laughs along the way, subscribe to Born to Watch wherever you get your podcasts.#ProjectHailMary #ProjectHailMaryMovieReview #RyanGosling #BornToWatch #MovieReview #SciFiMovies #AndyWeir #RockyTheAlien #FilmPodcast #MoviePodcast

The film launched Ryan Gosling into a superstar leading man and the soundtrack's influence has permeated into both the indie and pop music space, influencing artists The Weekend, Schoolboy Q, and M83. The soundtrack boasts amazing synthwave needle drops, a great Clint Martinez score, and a bit of both from Chromatics mastermind, Jonny Jewel. All of this is discussed as well as Gosling's rise from the Notebook to the superstar that he is now. The Buddies blast off for an emergency pod to discuss the 2026 film adaptation of Andy Weir's "Project Hail Mary," starring Ryan Gosling as the loneliest, most attractive genius in space. The Buddies had read the book way back on episode 23, so this was a trip down memory lane. Much of their discussion centered around Gosling's character wardrobe choices, his likeability, and if him being unable to get a date is the most unrealistic part of a movie about alien rock spiders and sentient microbes eating the sun. They also got to their normal cadence of bringing up references to Austin Powers' unfreezing sequence, contemplating whether this is all a Total Recall scenario, and referencing a number other movie comparisons. So, ‘fist my bump,' and join us for a podcast that promises to be as enjoyable as the movie (maybe). Intro (0:00-1:50)Stock Up/Down (1:51-28:49)Favorite Scene (28:50-32:44)Love/Hate (32:45-35:45)Lingering Questions (35:46-39:10)Conclusion (39:11-41:14) NEXT BOOK: 1984 by George Orwell

Welcome! With the resounding success of the Artemis mission to the moon, it seems like great time to look back at Ryan Gosling's take on Neil Armstrong, First Man. It's an intimate and epic look at a historical figure who was both enigmatic and introverted. Armstrong was a reluctant icon, and Gosling nails this portrayal. Project Hail Mary is the fifth movie directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It’s written by Drew Goddard and based on the Andy Weir novel. It’s the second movie adapted from a Weir novel, and the second adapted by Goddard, after The Martian. It stars Ryan Gosling as a high school science teacher who’s tasked with … going to space basically alone and saving the world. Project Hail Mary is the No. 1 movie in the world. Its opening last weekend was the biggest of the year so far, and its domestic opening was the second-biggest of Gosling’s career (after Barbie) and the second-biggest ever for a non-franchise movie (after Oppenheimer). And: Saturday Night Live UK is an official international adaptation of regular, old SNL stateside. It, too, premiered last weekend with an episode hosted by (noted non-Brit) Tina Fey. New episodes will appear Sunday nights on Peacock in the U.S. Eight episodes have been ordered, so far. Ready to go inside the Manethosphere? Ancient Egypt. The Promise of  Brilliance, Spiritual Truths, the birthplace of Hermetic Magic, Mythology, and Cat Allergies.   One of the themes this show never ceases to deconstruct, reconstruct, and loop about on and on again, is our human capacity to great grand illusions for ourselves.   The ability to witness a full-length feature film slice by slice—with real people performing scripted actions, speaking pre-written words, and imitating genuine emotions, all in two dimensions—yet still construct a visual narrative that absorbs you completely... that's uniquely human. That's uniquely Hollywood.   And that might be the exact same illusory BS way of thinking that Egyptologists have used to delude themselves for decades... Steven Myers is a documentarian, researcher, founder, nonprofit director, author, antiquities scholar, Great Pyramid technologist, water‑pump theorist, lecturer, media guest, humanitarian advocate, and perhaps most importantly for this conversation...a critic of mainstream Egyptology.   You'll learn TRUTHS about:   • How the Great Pyramid of Giza may have actually been built!   • Why "Royal Tomb" theories of pyramids royally suck... • A sharp teardown of the Orion Correlation Theory (and the thousands of original memes that support it) • Where thinkers like Graham Hancock and other alternative historians may still be missing the engineering reality hiding in plain sight. • Sacred geometry, star alignments, and pyramid mysticism and other things you wished Gwyneth Paltrow didn't speak about at parties   The conversation with Steven takes you to an incredible place in his assessment of the Great Pyramid as an open-source industrial prosperity machine, a place where pipe dreams meet pump realities. And the occasional hairball.   Your understanding of Ancient Egypt will never be the same again.... The Kristian Harloff Show is packed today with one of the biggest stories in entertainment as we break down the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer after it set a massive 24-hour launch record. According to Sony's reported numbers cited by ComicBookMovie, the trailer reached 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours, surpassing the previous benchmark and instantly making this one of the hottest movie conversations online right now. We dive into what made the trailer hit so hard, why fans are reacting so strongly, and what this could mean for the future of Spider-Man on the big screen. We're also talking about Ryan Gosling finally addressing the long-running Ghost Rider rumors while promoting Project Hail Mary. Gosling reportedly said that "some discussions have been had" while also calling the situation "complicated," which is more fuel for Marvel fans who have been speculating about his possible MCU future for months. If you've been following Ghost Rider chatter, Avengers rumors, or Marvel casting talk, this is a big one to unpack. On top of that, Drew Goddard has revealed why Sony's planned Sinister Six movie never made it to theaters. Per the report, Goddard said the project effectively fell apart in the aftermath of the Sony hack, giving fans a fresh look at one of the most fascinating "what if" superhero movies that never happened. We discuss what that movie could have been, how it might have reshaped Spider-Man's cinematic history, and why fans are still talking about Sinister Six all these years later. We also cover the latest Buffy news after Sarah Michelle Gellar urged fans not to read the leaked New Sunnydale script. Gellar said pilots are unfinished learning tools and pushed back on people judging the project based on material that was never meant to be seen in that form. We break down the cancellation chatter, the leak conversation, and what this means for Buffy fans still hoping for the franchise to return in a major way. If you're into Spider-Man, Marvel, Ghost Rider, Ryan Gosling, Project Hail Mary, Sinister Six, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the biggest movie and TV stories of the day, this episode of The Kristian Harloff Show is for you. Cal plans to go out to the theater to watch the actor save the universe in Project Hail Mary. Cal doesn't know exactly what's going to happen, but he sees the plot as the perfect metaphor for how humans must look at the work in the age of AI. Gosling plays a middle school science teacher who wakes up in a rocket and can't remember, only to use the skills he has to save the universe. We're all going to have to step and find the best in ourselves as we look at work going forward. The movie may be an inspiring way to see humanity's future.
