Hi everyone! On this new TALK MUSIC episode, we're going to do something I haven't done yet: go deep into the harder-edged genre of Metal and Hard Rock. My guest is MICHEL LANGEVIN, the founder/drummer extraordinaire of French-Canadian progressive sci-fi metal act, VOIVOD, who counts DAVE GROHL as a fan, has toured with RUSH, been featured on OZZFEST and once included ex-METALLICA bassist JASON NEWSTEAD in their lineup. VOIVOD is a band I respect immensely and hold in very high regard, and I was thrilled to be associated with them in the 90's when I released two of their albums, NEGATRON and PHOBOS, on my Hypnotic Label worldwide. They are revered around the world by everyone who loves unique and distinctive harder-edged music, and they just celebrated 40 years of recording and performing! I go deep on their amazing career arc starting from their very beginnings in Quebec and progressing across their 16 studio albums! I loved my chat with Michel and I'm excited for everyone to hear it. Enjoy!
Do you remember that film about a bunch of stop motion chickens pulling off a Great Escape-ish escape from the chicken farm where they'll all eventually become dinner? Well, Netflix certainly does, and they've invested in bringing the sequel to your television screens some 23 years later. Paul and Wayne have checked it out and at least one of them is not chicken in voicing their disdain for the film. In fact, the Negatron theme gets trotted out amid many swipes at animated children's film in general, though all should be relieved to know there is not one reference to breasts - chicken or otherwise - in this review. Who will be the hard to please reviewer and who will attempt to defend the chickens as they Mission Impossible their way into our hearts? Find out as The Coundown continues ... 500 million dollars later, Wayne and Paul decide they better see what all the fuss is about and head to the cinemas to catch the latest triumphant video game adaptation, The Super Movie Bros. Movie. Amazingly, the song "When Will I Be Famous" is not used once in this 90 minute animated adventure, but a bunch of other crappy needle drops are, and Wayne, at least, is all about them. But does he like, well, ANYthing else about this film? And how many times has Paul defended a non-horror against Wayne's version of Negatron? Remember when Roland Emmerich made ID4 and everyone loved it? Well it's 26 years later and apparently Mr Emmerich is still chasing that kind of high because he continues to make the same type of film. Again and again and again and again. And every time he does so, like a photocopy of a photocopy, the quality decreases. Which, good listener, brings us to Moonfall. Sigh. Can this one be worse than Independence Day: Resurgence? The Requel - or is it Legasequel? - returns with the 2022 version of Scream. Wes has long left us, leaving some very big shoes to fill, but Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett thought they could manage one foot each, so here we are. Quite beyond whether this is the best sequel in the franchise, and whether it's the bloodiest film in the series, is whether or not Wayne has been so corrupted by Paul that he's now the negative one on the show? The Kingsman?! You're not taking the Kingsman! (Bonus point for anyone who gets that deep-cut, completely inappropriate in 2022 reference.) Yes, the boys this week go back to before it all began to review the prequel to the film that they covered in the very first episode of The Countdown. That film was Kingsman: The Secret Service. This film is The King's Man, with Matthew Vaughn back on co-writing and directing duties. Sadly, the film just doesn't stack up to the fantastic original. Which begs the questions: Have the guys grown more cynical as they've aged along with the show? Or are prequels inherently inferior products? Warner Brothers in their infinite wisdom decided the world needed another Matrix film and strong-armed Lana Wachowski into having another go at the series. The reviews and reactions so far have been polarising, and now it's time for Paul and Wayne to wade in. Does it do what it says on the tin and resurrect the Matrix film series after the deplorable Revolutions 18 years ago? Or is this the final nail in The Matrix shaped coffin and a waste of around $190 million dollars? Paul, in particular has a lot of skin in this game, so is he able to shrug off the Negatron label for one week? Today's episode, sadly, reminds you of an entirely new way that you should be terrified. In a "please, tell me that Donald Trump's lawyers aren't listening to this" episode, Andrew breaks down a 1990s court decision surrounding a 1920s law to talk about the ultimate endgame for Trump and the census. Is it horrible? Yes. Are you better off being prepared? Absolutely. We begin, however, with a quick trip up a rare Tuesday Yodel Mountain by examining the transfer of the House Judiciary Committee's lawsuit seeking injunctive relief against Don McGahn. Was it a "huge victory" for the President that Chief Judge Beryl Howell transferred the case? (No.) Then, it's time for a deep dive into the Presidential powers of apportionment and how Donald Trump can potentially do a court-clogging end-run around the Supreme Court's census decision even if he loses the 2020 election. After that, it's time to check out a new segment from Cybertron -- the official "Optimist Prime" versus "Negatron" segment on impeachment. Who will stand victorious? Hint: he's got the energon axe. What went wrong as Villa slipped out of the play-off spots to what an under pressure Steve Bruce got right to reverse the team's fortunes going into the new year.David and Dan also talk about Steve Bruce's disturbing team selections and the issues in defence and attack, with special focus on Scott Hogan and Tommy Elphick. There's also random chat about fireworks, Bear's arses, The Last Jedi and Amazon Echoes.Jedinak's Jungle makes a return and Negatron gives his suggestion as to who should be the Villa boss, as well as advice on Gabby's contract extension.Enjoy!Lets hope 2018 is a promotion year.UTVDavid & DanPlease do support the show by becoming a MOMS Patron. Christmas has come early for the Aston Villa players. As well as showing their resolve away at Elland Road, it was time for them to embrace their inner flying monkey, Power Ranger, Prince Akeem...and Chelsea player. In the latest irreverent look at the Villa week, David and Dan give their thumbs-up to the big winner in the fashion stakes at the Villa player Christmas party, ask has John Terry been a full kit w**ker this week and celebrate the goal of the season (already). Then talk gets more serious as they look back at the draw against Leeds, Leeds, Leeds and consider what a difference a year makes compared to the last time Villa visited Elland Road. From Samba and Onomah woe to Whelan and Lansbury delight, the main talking points are all discussed.Other topics include: The most impressive thing about Snodgrass. Has Bruce actually been lucky with injuries? Are Villa Premier League ready? Which one injury are we away from being in real trouble? Also, the Millwall encounter is looked at (don't go to the Christmas market on Saturday!) before the verdict is given on several listener Villa problems (send them in on Twitter to @astonvillapod).We also find out about Negatron's new job, the reason he's been too busy to do 'Negatron Alerts'.EnjoyUTVDavid & DanPlease do support the show by becoming a MOMS Patron. After a win against Fulham at Villa Park, Aston Villa are the form team in the Championship as they go into the Second City derby at St Andrews. A win against Birmingham City and they'll become automatic promotion contenders for real.David and Dan discuss Villa's current form, Pep Guardiola's ball problem and the man with the shortest Villa career ever in the hunt to be a Premier League manager, before getting into the Fulham game and previewing the battle against the Blues.Other questions answered include: Is Onomah the secret weapon? Is Whelan a weapon of mass self-destruction? And are Villa a 'one prick pony'?We ears drop in on a phone call from super agent Jorge Mendes (the force behind Wolves' transformation) to Tony Xia, hear what Negatron has to say about the club's social media and Alan Hutton, and there's a message from our sponsor Gabby Power.Apologies in advance to our Irish listeners for the outtakes...And further apologies for the lateness of this episode, but we hope there is a enough madness in it to make up for it!EnjoyUTVPlease do support the show by becoming a MOMS Patron. As the international break ends, Villa go into October after being the top form team for the month of September. David and Dan, bring the podcast up to date by looking at the key issues of Villa's last game against Bolton, that gave Villa their fourth win on the trot.As well as discussing dodgy referees and Bradford City nightmares along the way, they focus in on Jonathan Kodjia's inability to pass and agree with John Terry on the matter. Will JK compromise the promotion push? There's also a focus on Villa being a breeding ground for bizarre and unlikely top level left-backsIn the final third of the show, get ready for a podcast within a podcast. If Villa's 1-0 win against Bolton under Bruce was a bit boring, we fire up the satire levels and go back to 2009 to sample what this podcast would sound like discussing a more exciting 5-1 win vs Bolton, when Martin O'Neill was manager. There's also Negatron expressing his disappointment after 11 games into the season and also Twitter With Tony.EnjoyUTVPlease do support the show by becoming a MOMS Patron. Amongst the influx of random Artificial Intelligence on the show, David and Dan discuss Villa's glorious first home win of the season against Barnsley, crashing out of the League Cup to Middlesbrough and whether Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has finally found his first eleven. Also, there's talk of Robert Snodgrass, the potential final piece of the Bruce jigsaw, the revelation of Johnstone, the Davis & Kodjia partnership, Villa's left-side left-field solution and also Harry Redknapp's football execution.Robot guests on the show include Alexa, HAL 9000, Negatron and David 8 (we're still trying to get the Villa Engine on).EnjoyUTVPlease support the show and become a MOMS Patron, where you'll shortly be able to get bonus episodes of the show - see www.patreon.com/moms for detailsPodcast featuring:David Michael - @oldmansaidDan Rodgers - @avfc_vilrMy Old Man Said - http://www.myoldmansaid.comVilla Underground - http://www.villaunderground.comProducer - David MichaelVoices - Dan Rodgers See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

If you believe the 'football scholars' on social media, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is one or two bad results away from being sacked. A judgment made regardless of the fact, that he's just had his first preseason and bought in another batch of players. In the real world, he'll certainly get more than three games to prove his credentials, but patience is running thin and the football is still woeful.David and Dan of the My Old Man Said podcast have always maintained the brand of football hasn't been good enough for promotion or even worthy of watching. They both discuss what's going wrong on the pitch and examine the double whammy of insipid performances in the away defeats against Cardiff and Reading. They also cover former Villan Gareth Barry going to WBA.Villa players in focus include all the cover boys. Will Scott Hogan come good? What is Bruce playing at with Conor Hourihane? What's the point of Birkir Bjarnason? And what's with Andre Green's final touch?!Also, Negatron discusses scapegoats and what should be done to the Villa boss. A concerned Randy Lerner goes all Donald Trump on Tony Xia over a certain £30m and 'Twitter With Tony' returns...kind of.The show will also take you to a strange parallel Villa universe...where doom and gloom doesn't exist. So get ready for Villa analysis wrapped up in the laugh a minute ride with sketches, surreal happenings and outtakes.EnjoyUTVPodcast details - http://www.myoldmansaid.co.ukFeaturing:David Michael - @oldmansaidDan Rodgers - @avfc_vilrMy Old Man Said - http://www.myoldmansaid.comVilla Underground - http://www.villaunderground.comProducer - David Michael See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Aston Villa are unbeaten and still in the League Cup. That's two things they failed to do after the first two games last season in the Championship. David and Dan reflect back on the league opener against Hull City and the mid-week League Cup away win in the rain of Colchester. They have a closer look at players that haven't really got up and running at Villa, such as Scott Hogan, Conor Hourihane and Birkir Bjarnason. And also access whether the team's young hopefuls such as Andre Green and Callum O'Hare can play a big role in Aston Villa's quest for promotion. The logic of Samba's cameo up front is revealed and there is concern over the left-side of Villa's team. Also, in the show is Twitter With Tony and a couple of appearances from Negatron to spoil the early season optimism.Enjoy!Support the podcast via the Patron link on the website - http://www.myoldmansaid.com - and keep the show on the road!UTV* The audio quality is not totally on point due to the wi-fi messing things up. Welcome to the 2017/18 season. My Old Man Said podcast's presenters David and Dan look back over Aston Villa's pre-season - the signings, the exits, the hope, the disillusion, the ambition, Bruce's Plan A/B and the goal of promotion. On route, they also discuss stuff like Sienna Miller, golf, theatre, Villa having five players in a recent England team, and Dan once again explains why he doesn't think football is complicated. Occasionally, they are rudely interrupted by Negatron.Jedinak's Jungle is back in all of it's glory, plus there's a few outtakes scattered around the place.Warning: We don't take anything too seriously, so there's always a few laughs along the way.Enjoy!Support the podcast via the Patron link on the website - http://www.myoldmansaid.com - and keep the show on the road!UTVPodcast details - http://www.myoldmansaid.co.ukFeaturing:David Michael - @oldmansaidDan Rodgers - @avfc_vilrMy Old Man Said - http://www.myoldmansaid.comVilla Underground - http://www.villaunderground.comProducer - David Michael See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

There's discussion on free drinks, Steve Bruce's anger, the increasing list of players that need shipping out and the way forward after Kodjia's injury. We also ask the question, should Villa have made the play-offs and are the excuses for not making them actually warranted? And gripes might be an understatement! Warning: If you are not interested in hearing criticism of Japan, this is not for you. We recorded this on the debut of "Premium Friday," a government campaign which urges people to leave work at 3:00 PM on last Friday of every month (neither of us did), in an effort to boost consumer spending amid Japan’s persistent deflation. According to the Japan Times, the first Premium Friday fell flat on its face, with only 3.7 percent of Tokyo area employees leaving work early, according to a survey. And outside of Tokyo, I'm guessing it's even worse. For the love of all that's *not* karoushi, let's hope it catches on!.
