In February I will be reading through Mark Batterson's book, Win the Day. I read through this book during the covid pandemic and found the habits he talks about very helpful. On this episode I give an overview of the book and how I hope it can help each of us grow this year.
At the start of a new year, we often do a great job of getting into newer, better habits. What happens when a schedule change or a trip gets us out of our routine and threatens to end our streak? How do we start thinking ahead and planning to overcome these obstacles to keep on track and reach out goals?
A New Year often brings new goals and new habits. However, we often get in the way of our own progress by thinking we are missing one last "tool" that will help us achieve our goals. Whether you think you need another book, another productivity app, or another fitness gadget the time has come to set that thought aside and get going with your plan. You don't need another tool. You've got enough tools!

Lately, I've imagined myself going back in time to have a talk with my 30 something self to see if he would have any advice for me during this season of life. It came down to 3 things. You can use the same 3 things to get unstuck and move forward in your own life.
Today is the 5 year anniversary of my wife, Karen, passing away. Here's what I did today to remember her and other things that continue to help me navigate the grieving process. Thank you all for your love, support, and prayers.

I had dinner with a great friend who gave the great reminder that sometimes our biggest cheerleader needs to be the person looking back at us in the mirror.
How do we soak in beautiful moments in our day to day comings and goings?
There are lots of spoilers in this episode as I compare and contrast the finales of Ted Lasso, Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Some doors are opened. Some doors are closed. Some just leave a tiny crack.
Have you ever used the phrase “it is what it is?” Here's why it one of my least favorite and most favorite sayings.

Most people would think of me as a “glass half full” kind of person, but the reality is that, internally, I've been a “glass half empty” guy all of my life. Here's what I'm doing about it.
At the beginning of the year, I set a habit goal of exercising 30 minutes a day 6 days a week. It occurred to me today that I have updated that daily habit to be more focused and move even closer to my end goal. What adjustments do you need to make in your habits?
For the 4th year in a row I have lost 20 lbs with diet and exercise. What am I doing now to make sure I don't gain it back and have to lose the same 20 next year? It's about focusing on the process over your progress.

I'm almost a week into giving up coffee and results have not been what I expected. On this episode, I talk about side effects I thought I would have, the side effects I am having, and the change in my quality of sleep. I'm starting to see a major difference in my energy and thinking. What did you give up for Lent? Join the fun and discussion on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Heathmullikinproject.
Over the past several weeks I have felt God calling me to something. Something that will require me to be physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually prepared for. I've felt this pull. This desire. Like a quest. Leading into Lent I was thinking about what I would give up and that's when all the streams crossed and I realized I was about to bite off more than I could chew. What is God calling you to these days? What's your quest? What are you giving up for Lent? Join the fun and discussion on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Heathmullikinproject.
As many of you have heard, there has been an around the clock revival happening on the campus of Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. It's been an incredible thing to witness from afar. I had the opportunity to interview several folks from Southern Wesleyan who got to attend over the weekend and get their perspective. That conversation sparked lots of thoughts like: who's cleaning the bathrooms and who's running security? It's a great reminder that when God moves it can create logistical nightmares in our lives. Revival is going to make everyone uncomfortable in one way or another. How do we prepare for that and what are the 3 choices we face when the Holy Spirit moves? I'd love your thoughts on this and the revival. This morning, Asbury released an update on their plans moving forward at this link. You can listen to my interview with the Southern Wesleyan Students on the SWU Soul Stories podcast here.
If you've followed my story then you know I am a big fan of Michael Hyatt's work. His new book, Mind Your Mindset, with his daughter, Megan, is a look at the voice inside our head and why it tells us the stories that it does. This book reinforced many things that I have learned and put into practice through my counseling sessions over the past 7 months. I hope it is a game changer for you as well. Thanks to Jon Cole and the amazing leaders who allowed me to share at this year's Western New York District Youth Winter Retreat. It was a phenomenal experience and God was with us. Listen for more details.
I had one of those early morning epiphanies the other day about forgiveness and how forgiving myself led to major mental health breakthroughs on my grief journey. Here's why you need to forgive yourself and start turning off those "What if" valves.

It was fun to sit down and chat briefly with Glen Robinson at the recent Wesleyan Pastor's Gathering. Glen is the Executive Pastor of Leadership Development at Crosspoint Church in Lynchburg, Virginia where one of my accountability partners, Josh Ratliff, is the Lead Pastor. Glen and I have many connections. He is one of my wife's first cousins and also interned with me at Central First Wesleyan Church(now Alive Wesleyan) during his time at Southern Wesleyan. Glen talks about his ministry, family, and his recent sabbatical in this episode.
