In this special interim episode, co-host Peterson Toscano revisits two powerful stories that explore revival and reevaluation on both personal and communal levels. First, we hear from Karla Jay, Global Ministries Coordinator for Friends United Meeting and part of the pastoral team at Iglesia Amigos de Indianapolis. Karla shares her eyewitness account of the 2023 Asbury University revival, a spiritual awakening that drew national attention and over 50,000 visitors. Next, we meet Hayden Hobby, a youth worker and worship leader in Richmond, Virginia. Hayden reflects on his journey out of a fear-based evangelical theology and into a more authentic, evolving faith. He reads from his essay, Surviving Religious Trauma: How I Left an Abusive God, published in the February 2023 issue of Friends Journal. Finally, Peterson takes listeners to Millville, Pennsylvania, where Millville Friends Meeting has taken bold steps to affirm LGBTQ+ people and all spiritual seekers. Inspired by a call from Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting, the small rural meetinghouse—situated across from the local high school and next to a hilltop cemetery—crafted explicit welcome statements and is preparing to participate in PrideAPalooza 2025. The welcome statement for LGBTQ+ people reads: At Millville Friends Meeting, we publicly recognize that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex, asexual, and queer (LGBTQIA+) people have faced systemic exclusion, judgment, and harm—especially in religious communities. In light of this history, we affirm LGBTQIA+ people as full and valuable members of our spiritual community. Your presence, leadership, and gifts are cherished. You are welcome here. The general welcome statement reads: Millville Friends Meeting welcomes and embraces all peace-loving spiritual seekers. We are committed to creating a community where people of all races, ethnicities, ages, genders, gender identities and expressions, sexual, romantic, or affectional orientations, immigration or refugee statuses, marital or family structures, economic situations, educational backgrounds, and physical, mental, or neurodiverse abilities are affirmed and valued. Each person's spiritual journey is sacred. You are welcome here. The Millville Meeting commissioned graphic designer, Christine Bakke, to create posters for the website, to hang inside the meetinghouse, and to post outside. As Zach Meerkreebs ended his sermon on the campus of Asbury University, he challenged, “Do not leave here until you experience the love of God so that you can pour it out.” Several students remained, praying and worshipping, and others joined them until a crowd formed that grew to over 65,000 and covered the campus. As the worshipping and praying continued, for sixteen days and nights, the media began reporting on what came to be called the Asbury Outpouring. www.ZachMeerkreebs.com ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Look for HOPE is Here: - at www.HOPEisHere.Today - on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HOPEisHereToday - on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/hopeisherelex/ - on X (Twitter) - https://www.x.com/hopeisherelex - on TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@hopeisherelex - on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtJ47I4w6atOHr7agGpOuvA Help us bring HOPE and encouragement to others: - by texting the word GIVE to 833-713-1591 - by visiting https://www.hopeisheretoday.org/donate #Lexington #Kentucky #christianradio #JesusRadio #Jesus #WJMM #GregHorn #GregJHorn #suicideprevention #KentuckyRadio #HOPEisHere #Hope #HopeinJesus #FoodForThoughtFriday #MondayMotivation #FridayFeeling #Motivation #Inspiration #cupofHope #FYP #ForYouPage #SuicideAwareness #asburyrevival #asburyoutpouring

This Sunday, we had the privilege of hearing from Pastor David Thomas of Asbury University, who preached a powerful message from Psalm 126 on travailing prayer. Drawing on his firsthand experience during the Asbury Awakening in 2023, Pastor David reminded us that awakening and revival have changed the course of history before, and they can happen again, but it starts with a desperate and honest recognition that we are broken and in need of God alone.David ThomasJune 8, 2025The Book of JoelHope in the Darkwww.newnorth.church

*This episode mentions suicide and may be triggering for some listeners. This week, we’re diving into something truly transformative—the power of love to change everything. First, we hear from Father Richard Rohr, who shares his lifetime of wisdom about how experiencing deep, unconditional love—not rules or fear—is what really brings about meaningful change. Then, Pastor Zach Meerkreebs takes us to Asbury University, where a truly extraordinary event happened in that faith community. He reminds us that following Jesus’ example of humility can open our lives up to amazing possibilities. But that doesn’t say, ‘Don’t be angry.’ Right now there is so much that deserves anger—the wars in our world, how we treat the very ones Jesus told us to love, the little ones, the rejected ones. That comes from an excess of anger and a deficiency of sadness.” - Fr. Richard Rohr “An experience of infinite, unconditional love—that’s the only thing that changes us.” - Fr. Richard Rohr “We can’t authentically love one another without experiencing the authentic love of Jesus first.” - Zach Meerkreebs “Within a couple of days, it had been spread around the world that God was moving on the campus [of Asbury University], and we started having guests from South America and the Middle East and Asia to come and encounter God at our chapel service.” - Zach Meerkreebs “Humility really is a foundation in what’s countercultural, captivating, convicting and compelling of the Christian walk.” - Zach Meerkreebs “If you read Scripture and you study the person of Jesus, humility is the most captivating thing about Him.” - Zach Meerkreebs “Because I understand who I am and I understand who God is, that drives me to pray. I want to spend time with Him, because I know my life is better when I spend time with Him and when I listen to His voice.” - Zach Meerkreebs _______________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Kentucky Chronicles: A Podcast of the Kentucky Historical Society
Kentucky is known for having a lot of counties: 120 to be exact. At the center of each county stands the county courthouse, some slightly more elaborate than others. Most Kentuckians are familiar with these, as it is where they go to register their vehicles or obtain a marriage license. In Jessamine County, however, those who visit the courthouse in Nicholasville will likely be struck by a towering statue that stands on the courthouse lawn: a statue of a Confederate soldier. Join us today for a discussion with a former research fellow, who has created a podcast to explore the towering history of this Confederate monument. David Swartz is a Professor of History at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. Swartz received his M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from the University of Notre Dame. A historian of religion, he has published two books, Moral Minority: The Evangelical Left in an Age of Conservatism (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2012) and Facing West: American Evangelicals in an Age of Christianity (Oxford University Press, 2020). In the summer of 2024, Dr. Swartz was a Research Fellow at the Kentucky Historical Society, researching Civil War Memory in Jessamine County, Kentucky. That research informed the podcast, “Rebel on Main,” about a Confederate monument in Nicholasville. To learn more about the Confederate Monument and Civil War memory in Jessamine County, please listen to David's podcast, “Rebel on Main.” Also, be sure to visit David's website, rebelonmain.com, for more content connected to each episode, and for links to the preferred podcast streaming platforms. https://www.rebelonmain.com/ Shoutout to Dr. Sean Rost and the "Our Missouri" podcast, currently sharing episodes focused on the states that border Missouri. In this episode, we delve into the budding revival movement with insights from Dr. David Thomas, from Asbury University. Discover how today's spiritual landscape is shifting with increased prayer, unity, and boldness among the younger generation. Dr. Thomas emphasizes the fading of old denominational lines and the emergence of a united, Trinitarian life. We also confront the challenges of rising spiritual conflict and the need for deeper consecration to sustain God's work. Join us as we discuss collaborative leadership and the essential role of relational networks in nurturing revival. Here are the 5 takeaways from David Thomas's segment: There is an increased presence of Jesus and a rise in prayer. Spiritual shifts are taking place, and old denominational divisions are dissolving. There are signs of awakening, including increased love and fervor in faith commitments. There are challenges and needs, including rising spiritual conflict and the need for spiritual warfare. What makes a campus fall to its knees in worship for 16 straight days? Why do some places become sacred spaces where God repeatedly pours out His Spirit? Join us as we welcome Rev. Dr. Suzanne Nicholson, Professor of New Testament at Asbury University, to reflect on the remarkable 2023 Asbury Revival two years later and discuss her new book “Cooperating with the Holy Spirit.” From the initial 16-day outpouring that captured global attention to the lasting impact on campus life and beyond, Dr. Nicholson shares unique insights as both an eyewitness and scholar studying revival movements. We'll explore the theological foundations of revival, practical lessons for stewarding moves of God, and how this historic event fits into both Asbury's legacy of revivals and the broader context of spiritual awakening in America. FrontStage BackStage with Jason Daye - Healthy Leadership for Life and Ministry
Are our lives and ministries truly being shaped by the Spirit, or are they shaped perhaps by our insecurities, disappointments, our own ambitions, and our other baggage? In this week's conversation on FrontStage BackStage, host Jason Daye is joined by Zach Meerkreebs. Zach had a unique experience on February 8, 2023, when he preached the sermon at the chapel service at Asbury University.
