What is so fascinating about the micro world that almost every sci-fi franchise has been inspired to include an episode where the characters shrink to the size of insects? The Doctor's first foray into diminished circumstances came pretty early: William Hartnell's second-season opener, Planet of Giants, sees the original TARDIS crew taking on giant bugs, deadly water faucets, and a ruthless killer indifferent to a looming environmental catastrophe. Seen through a magnifying glass, Doctor Who feels like an entirely different show. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's hard to see that “less is more” in this case. Maybe we just need to squint. Leave a review on Apple Podcasts! Jodie Whittaker's regeneration wasn't just unusual for — spoiler alert — marking the first “repeat” Doctor when she morphed into David Tennant at the end of “The Power of the Doctor.” It was also one of the only regenerations to also regenerate the Doctor's clothes. The in-show reason for this will likely be revealed in next year's 60th anniversary special, but incoming showrunner Russell T. Davies discussed in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine why he was “absolutely certain” the clothes would regenerate. Was it the right call? Pete and Chris take a break from their random journey to debate why this was a good call or bad call, and what precedent it sets for the series. Plus: Mille Gibson is Ruby Sunday! Why did it take Doctor Who so long to do the “star whale” concept? If the show was waiting for a particularly strong script, it probably should have sailed right on by The Beast Below, which doesn't exactly bestow the idea with a lot of dignity: it could be the only time Doctor Who has introduced a creature by showing it barfing. Even though the show is mostly using this cosmic cetacean as a metaphor for an ancient semi-god who just wants to be nice to children and help out when they're crying, you can't help but feel like the odds are against the Beast. If this story succeeds, it'll be a major fluke. Leave a review on Apple Podcasts! Regeneration. It's been a pivotal part of Doctor Who for almost 60 years, but let's face it: Some regenerations have been better than others. When a new Doctor takes over, it's always dramatic, but there are several more boxes to tick to make the episode a classic. The story should be epic in impact if not in stakes, the incumbent Doctor should have apt and memorable final lines, and the regeneration itself should tickle both the eyes and the mind. So where does The Power of the Doctor — the series' most recent addition to the Doctor's (infinite?) regeneration cycle — rank? We take a quick break from our random journey to find out. The simple, straightforward title of Dalek belies so much: This story doesn't just re-introduce the Daleks for a new generation of Doctor Who viewers — it makes them interesting, upgraded, and scary in ways they always deserved to be but never quite achieved in the classic series. Stellar performances from the cast — including an arguably best-of-his-run showstopper from Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor overcome by his hatred for these machine-creatures — certainly hep to make Dalek both an unexpected epic as well as the beginning of an incredible run in the back half of Series 1 of NuWho. When companions go, sometimes it's sad (brave heart, Tegan), sometimes it's bittersweet (London, 1965!), and sometimes it's a nonevent (Dodo who?). But the heartbreaking departure of Rose in Doomsday is on another level altogether, and it simply requires repercussions. Those shockwaves are front and center in The Runaway Bride, yet somehow the story ends up being one of the most fun in the entire series. That's thanks in no small part to the brilliant comedic banter between David Tennant and Catherine Tate — a pairing that works so well that the duo will return as series leads full time in 2023. Seeing the genesis of that relationship makes a rewatch of Bride feel like Christmas morning all over again, and you also get some great stocking stuffers: a visually breathtaking giant spider lady and some never-before-seen TARDIS maneuvering. Dr. Nicolas Chronos is a well known medical doctor here in the Lake Country. But most people don't know the interesting journey that brought him here! Dr. Chronos was born in England, with parents of Scottish & Greek descent. He grew up in England, and attended medical school in London, with a specialty in cardiology. About 30 years ago, he came to the United States, where he attended Emory University for recertification and stayed there for several years, overseeing much of the cardiology intervention group. He later moved over to St. Joe's, where he headed up a large cardiology research institute and was part of Atlanta Cardiology Group, the largest in Atlanta. You'll hear what ultimately lured him to the lake, where he has resided for the last 10 years. He founded Lake Country Medical Group, a premier, multi-specialty team with a world-class facility. He and his team focus on each patient individually and patients feel more like family than patients! We discuss some of the exciting advances in medical treatment, how we need to focus on prevention vs. treatment and how he and his staff, not only worked through the pandemic, but became the calm, rational voice as information was changing and evolving rapidly. He gives us the top three things we can all do to live a healthier life, things that we can all easily do on a regular basis! Dr. Chronos also shares with us his heart for the folks in Ukraine and what he and many people in the lake area are doing to help alleviate their suffering. And we will talk about Lake Country Medical Concierge, and how he and his team are working to bring "big city" services to our beautiful, but rural, community, through cutting edge medical concierge services. When you hear “a Doctor Who story set in the Jurassic period,” the picture you conjure in your head probably looks quite a bit different from Time-Flight. That's not necessarily a strike against it: The finale of Season 19 is notorious for being light on budget, so it's probably a blessing that they didn't even try to show a single allosaurus stomping around the barren plains of prehistoric London. Instead we get the Xeraphin, a telepathic race of morally conflicted humanoids that are almost interesting — at least until the Master uses them as the winner-take-all prize in his technobabble rap battle with the Doctor. Is there any Doctor Who format as reliable as the base under siege? You can see why: All you need is one set, an excuse to keep the TARDIS out of reach, and one illogically obstinate person in charge, and you're about 90% there. The key ingredient, of course, is a convincing and creepy monster, and though mutant seaweed might not be your first choice to fill that role, it's what Fury From the Deep has to work with. Nonetheless, even in animation, “the weed” produces more scares than any hostile plantlife has a right to, so we don't blame Victoria for giving her lungs a workout in this one. Just please don't blame us for wanting to break the tension by snickering at all the references to “weed.” Leave a review on Apple Podcasts! This episode starts by giving a practical example of how to use the three stages of Attention/Inerest we explored last episode. Its a blow by blow description of my Tennis Racket act to illustrate how the stages of Attention can be found and also how they organically weave in an out. Then I talk about the emergence of Showtime. We are remined of this use of the word and concept of Showtime from the Illuminated Showman's Manifesto and through that we learn that the ancient Greeks already named the two kinds of time. Chronos and Kairos. This is some real good and useful stuff for understanding how interconncted and meaningful the process of Showmanship is....If you want to help support this podcast it would be tremendous if you wrote a glowing review on iTunes or Spotify. If you want to  contact me about anything, including wanting me to collaborate on one of your projects you can reach me on thewayoftheshowman@gmail.comor find out more on the Way of the Showman website. If you find it in you and you have the means to do so, you can suport the podcast financially at:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/captainfrodoSupport the showSupport the show

Jodie Whittaker's first season as the Doctor took the show in a new direction, but The Witchfinders is almost a return to a very old format: the pure historical. True, this outing to the witch-obsessed England of the 17th century doesn't quite qualify — what with alien mud creatures reanimating left and right in the final act — but the most interesting thing about this story is certainly the dramatization of the horrific witch trials of the era. An excellent guest cast helps, made all the more entertaining when Alan Cumming arrives playing King James I. Could someone chop down that Morax tree over there? It's blocking our view of all this fabulous history. Leave a review on Apple Podcasts! Often Doctor Who travels to the past to showcase historical events, but it rarely shows what life in those eras was like for the less privileged. Rosa is a jarring exception to the rule, with its lens pointed directly at the racist past of the American South. While there is an antagonist from the future present, the real evil force here is state-sanctioned segregation. And the hero who must confront it isn't the title character we tune in to see from week to week, but Rosa Parks, the black woman who changed history by refusing to give up her seat on a bus. The drama that results is undeniable, but does that make it a classic? Leave a review on Apple Podcasts! If you lack emotions, can you seek revenge? It's the burden of Doctor Who fans to ponder questions like this, since Revenge of the Cybermen attributes emotion to the show's notoriously unfeeling monsters right there in the title. More likely, we suspect some future historian did their best to characterize the Cybermen's incursion on Nerva Beacon in the 29th century with some fanciful language to give the whole episode some gravitas. Heaven knows the story could use it — unless you're talking about the single biggest plot hole in Doctor Who history, one so massive it threatens to overshadow Tom Baker's performance, the unique musical score and everything else good about this story. Absent a beacon to highlight them, the galaxy turns to a lonely podcast broadcasting into the depths of space… Leave a review on Apple Podcasts! When more than one Doctor is present, you know something's gone disastrously wrong. While that usually applies to something within the show, in the case of The Two Doctors, you might be talking about the show itself. In some ways, it's not the story's fault — the production was famously plagued with problems behind the scenes — but a misfired location shoot can't explain away the script's icky obsession with carnivorism or those utterly extraneous Sontarans. At least we can all agree that we'd watch Patrick Troughton do anything, including wolf down an insanely huge meal in a top hat… just as long as he didn't do it wearing bright red eyebrows. Summer is peak season for action romps, we're told, so that must be why the Randomzier plopped us in the middle of Battlefield, the opening story of Classic Doctor Who's final year, and one that seems to continuously feature guns shooting, swords clashing, and all manner of things blowing up. I mean, you'd expect nothing less from the last official appearance of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, but is it all just smokescreen to keep us from realizing the story — ostensibly about transdimensional Arthurian knights fighting over a magic sword at the bottom of a lake — is complete nonsense? Rebooting Doctor Who is a feature of the show, not a bug, but it was still uncertain territory when Jon Pertwee took over in 1970. Sure, Patrick Troughton had taken over from William Hartnell a few years before, but it was very much the same show, following the adventures of a mysterious traveler and his human companions throughout all of time and space. Spearhead From Space boldly tosses out that formula, centers the show on contemporary Earth, and recasts the Doctor as a flamboyant action hero. OK, yes, those choices were made more out of budget necessity than bold storytelling, but the welcome return of the Brigadier reminds us this is still the same show, and it doesn't hurt that store-window mannequins make for a hella creepy monster. Welcome to “The Emergent Human where we explore Optimizing Health, Embodied Spirituality and Post Conventional Living. I am Michael Ostrolenk, a therapist, coach and educator and I am your host Today's show is brought to you by Cosper Scafidi, an amazing body worker in the Northern Virginia area who has integrated different somatic practices into his work. To learn more about his work, visit his website: www.cosperscafidi.com/. A shoutout to my mentor, colleague and friend Stuart Sovatsky, a scholar of kundalini Yoga and author of “Advanced Spiritual Intimacy: The Yoga of Deep Tantric Sensuality” Ostrolenk speaks to Christos Galanis (MFA) who is an interdisciplinary artist and human geographer who has spent the past 15 years or so tracking, and making visible, the various 'spells' through which colonialism, human-supremacism, and narcissism inhabit and inhibit relationships - both individually and culturally. His recently launched business - Kairos - helps clients to integrate more meaning and beauty into their lives through individualised ceremonies and rituals. In addition to his academic publishing, lecturing, and ethnographic field-work, he also brings years of experience teaching workshops on walking, play, performance, kink, and eco-sexuality. A practicing Animist, he is a graduate of Stephen Jenkinson's Orphan Wisdom School, and is completing a PhD from the University of Edinburgh. LINKS: Website: www.christosgalanis.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/christmas7 We will close out today's show with one of my favorite singer/song writers Stuart Davis and his song “Nothing in Between”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdRqCc3LfDI BOOKMARKS: 00:00 Intro 01:30 Christos' life-path, describing a spiritual awakening in his early 20s and a moment of grace one morning 06:30 What led from there to working with ceremony and ritual through Kairos, focusing on humans' capacity for creating beauty 10:30 Describing temporality as medicine and the meaning of time as Kairos, Chronos, and Aion in Greek. 15:15 Christos describes contexts where tuning into Kairos supports significant beginnings, endings, and transitions in life. How to slow down and allow your being to 'catch up' with what has already transpired in your life, where perhaps you didn't have the time and space to properly mark it 22:55 Christos shares the story of a significant rite of passage that he undertook, travelling to Spain to walk a pilgrimage to support the transition of a close family member's spirit who died tragically 26:40 Christos describes how his walking and movement practice is central to his maintaining a link to receiving input from Creation, which then serves as a source for the seeds of ceremonies and rituals. 30:30 Christos uses an example from Michael's own life to walk through what it might look like to work with Kairos with a prospective client. He describes how he supports the client to 'tune-in' to the un-rational, embodied intelligence that is Kairos in order to discover what the proper way to proceed might be. Christos also describes the importance of community and gathering together to witness, and to share stories. 36:40 Michael asks Christos to describe his relationship with beauty and how it's central to his work with ceremony and ritual. Christos then recounts a youtube video which documents a chimpanzee in a state of awe and exuberance as he interacts with a waterfall. 43:02 Michael and Christos discuss how important it is to bring more ceremony and ritual into our lives, especially for those who are not connected to any of the major world religions or ancestral traditions. Christos describes how ceremonies also ground us in place and connect us to our corners of the world and also to our non-human neighbours. 49:03 Christos gives info for how to reach him and work with him #EmergentHuman

Like good health, freedom is not always appreciated until it's lost. John 8:31-32,36 “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Wisdom Literature… designed to help us gain insight and perspective Qoheleth… the Teacher… the one who addresses the assembly Seeking to understand life "under the sun"… reflecting on a broken world from a limited human perspective in light of God's majesty and sovereignty Proverbs “…for gaining wisdom and perspective; for understanding and insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life; doing what is right and just and fair. Wisdom will protect you. Understanding will guard you.” Ecclesiastes Life is short, complex, and uneven. Life is mysterious and paradoxical. There is goodness, joy, celebration, and love. There is evil, sorrow, pain, and suffering. We live amid blessing and brokenness with an eye toward eternity. Wisdom comes from God. We gain wisdom by living in union with God. Wisdom involves discovering and embracing God's perspective by listening to his voice and being attentive to his prompting. Reverence, knowledge, and devotion to God is the beginning of true wisdom. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Greek concept of “time”: · Aion = unbroken time (eternity) · Chronos = linear time (clock) · Kyros = right time (season) Ecclesiastes begins by declaring that nothing matters. Everything is meaningless. Everything under the sun has been done before and will disappear like a vapor. Pleasure, wealth, and achievement can never satisfy the human heart. Ecclesiastes concludes by declaring that everything matters – even ordinary, everyday things – if we are devoted to God, mindful of him, and orienting our lives toward him. God is the one who gives ultimate meaning to life. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." “Being in a hurry. Getting to the next thing without fully entering the thing in front of me. I cannot think of a single advantage I've ever gained from being in a hurry. But a thousand broken and missed things, tens of thousands, lie in the wake of all the rushing… Through all that haste I thought I was making up time. It turns out I was throwing it away.” Ann Voskamp Daily Reminder Card · The Lord's Prayer… morning side (orienting) · The Prayer of Examen… evening side (reflecting) Redeem the Time! · Each day matters. · God's mercies are new every morning. · Find joy in your journey. · Live continually in God's presence. “I See You” Every sunset is a stained-glass window, Every park bench is a pew, There's a sanctuary everywhere that I go, When my eyes are open, When my heart is open, I see You. -JJ Heller-
