How do we soak in beautiful moments in our day to day comings and goings?
*Los mejores momentos de tu descanso, plasmado aqui *
"Most of our theme is maps and charts, we are map and chart people. So wherever that little corner of the world is special to you or to somebody you love or somebody wants to give well wishes to, we can pinpoint it down to a street address or we can design an entire country from an actual nautical chart, graphic, map topo, aerial map, aeronautical map, anything that's close to your heart," said Janice Sears, Owner of CHART Metalworks.Founded in 2008, CHART Metalworks has been handcrafting beautiful jewelry, accessories, and home decor pieces that are all about charts and maps put together with boat resin in the heart of downtown Portland. Janice Sears took over as owner right before the pandemic and while it was challenging their customers grew as they wanted more one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story of one's life journey. "I have to tell you, that the community and I don't know if it's just Maine or just Portland or just the women in Portland, but everybody is so supportive, so friendly. 'How can I help?' It's so quick to become a friend, you know, so quick to help when I asked for it. Especially because six months later, we entered into the COVID scene. The city of Portland just came to our rescue and did everything they could to help us and I just can't say enough about the people of Maine. I am proud to live here. I'm proud to say that I'm from here and it is my mission to go to every place," said Janice. Not only has the small business focused on jewelry and charts and map designs. They have also expanded into new designs."One thing we just launched was, instead of an actual graphic piece under the resin, we're taking mussel shells that we collect on the beaches in Maine, we crush them up, and every piece is different. We'll put it under the resin and pour the resin on top of it. So sometimes it might be a little more of the opalescent side of the muscle or sometimes it's more blue but that blue after the sun has drenched it is beautiful. After you put that resin on top it's a pretty shade of blue and it has become really popular. We put it in all our pieces. barware, jewelry, men's gifts, anything, and we crush all those shells up on your own," said Janice.Janice has expanded the team to four which is the perfect size for the small-batch collections they make. She has also made processes a bit leaner and has partnered up with many artisans that best fit her brand to showcase their work in their pieces such as photography and art pieces. But the one thing captured from the interview that Kristan found important was Janice's passion for Maine and she will always keep the business of CHART Metalworks in Portland."Maine, New England, you know, has been a part of CHART Metalworks for years. It was going great, but it needed a little love. I chose Maine because the business was here, and it's my happy place. So it's a win-win for Janice. But like I said before, Maine has been fabulous. It's the most beautiful state in the world, in my opinion, the rocky coast. I can't get enough of it. And the people are so supportive and wonderful. Our longest-standing repeat customers are Mainers and yeah, they love the fact that we're here," said Janice.Tune in to this episode to learn more about CHART Metalworks and how Janice has continued its legacy.

Beautiful Moments, As you go, Ideas
Track Title: Picture PerfectPerformed by: Neika SimoneWritten by: Toneika Simone Stephens-YoungProduced by: Churchboi, WritazblokGenre: R&B Bio:Relaxing jazz vibes with a touch of funk and soul, the lovely Neika Simone is enchanting audiences with her angelic vocals. Heartfelt and emotionally driven, her alluring songs express a range of emotions, exploring universal human concepts like love and heartbreak. Her highly acclaimed EP, Beautiful Moments, has been ascending the charts on SmoothJazz.com while her hit single, “My Door,” has maintained a stable spot at the top of The Urban Influencers list for R&B and Soul. Attracting audiences around the world, Neika Simone is offering her soothing sounds to ease heavy hearts. Born and raised in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, her devotion to music is a lifelong passion. The name “Simone” was given to her in honor of the iconic vocalist, Nina Simone. It proved fitting for the aspiring artist, as Neika began singing at a young age in her hometown church youth choir. Soon after, her parents enrolled her in piano lessons at the age of 7. As a teenager, she started writing songs of her own. Shy and quiet, her talent gave her great confidence and served as an outlet for expression. A classically trained pianist and vocalist, in her later years of high school, Neika's teacher encouraged her to apply for music scholarships. She auditioned and was offered funding to study under one of the best music industry programs in the state. Neika attended Elizabeth City State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in piano. She later attended Norfolk State University to obtain her Master's in Music Education with a focus on voice. As Neika Simone continued to grow as an artist, she developed a deep admiration for jazz. She was initially drawn to the genre after her first studio experience. In college, she attempted to add vocals to projects for other students in her program. After an ad libbed session, she was quickly dismissed, as the producers were looking for singers geared more toward hip-hop. She received great praise, however, for a voice well suited to the nuances of jazz. From there, her descent into the style progressed naturally. Neika discovered how much she admired the classiness, elegance, and sophistication of great vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and Sarah Vaughn. She held a reverence for the qualities they express in their music and their grace as phenomenal women in general. For a brief period, major events took precedence in Neika Simone's life, and the music stopped. She took a step back to navigate hardships such as health complications from endometriosis, divorce, and grief after the passing of her brother. As life began to settle, Neika needed to return to her true path. Music had previously been a constant in her life, so she shifted her focus back in that direction. She returned to her studies, reacquainting herself with chord progression, music theory, concept, and structure. Currently living in Richmond, Virginia, she met jazz musicians in the local scene and quickly found a band seeking Motown singers. Neika sang with them for several months, and soon, she met the manager of The Recliners. She worked with the group for a short time, until they disbanded. The remaining singers created a new band, Left Turn Right, who played and performed high energy shows. Neika also sang with the group, Fouray. With support from her friend and bandmate, Victor Nelson, she dove back into songwriting. Their combined efforts led to the release of the track, “My Door,” and Nelson also helped with her first EP, Beautiful Moments. Things picked up and Neika's career saw a boost of momentum. In November of 2021, she released the single, “Sweet Craving,” followed by her EP in February of 2022. Other names in the industry who have helped her along the way include Hanan Lane, Brandon Lane, and Gerard Johnson. These talented musicians, along with many others, have been essential in her growth as a songwriter. Neika Simone has learned many lessons about music, life, and love. Although the journey has been difficult and discouraging at times, she is tenacious and her efforts have been well spent. Singer, songwriter, and performer, she is also a music instructor for students of all age groups in chorus, voice, and piano. Teaching is a major part of who Neika is, having done so since her early twenties. With a longing to inspire others, she is sharing advice with students and audiences alike. “Life doesn't always give you what you want,” she explains. “Sometimes you have to work for it. You have to wait for it. You have to be persistent.”Grateful for the unrelenting support of her loving parents and husband, Neika Simone believes there are no wasted experiences. Even the painful moments provide valuable opportunities to learn. Neika takes these experiences and finds perspective, which she shares in her work. Her songs are real and relatable accounts of love, heartbreak, and hope. Neika encourages listeners, grounding and healing others with her comforting songs. A teacher with saintlike patience, she is helping those around her let go of their pain with relatable lyrical content. Filled with uplifting energy, Neika Simone allows audiences to relax as the melody, the words, and the rhythm washes over them.Social Links: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NeikaSimoneInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/neika_simone/Twitter: https://twitter.com/NeikaSimone
This week, we're illuminating life's most beautiful moments with an exercise from Dr. BJ Miller, Mettle Health Co-founder and hospice and palliative medicine physician… “Close your eyes and think about this last week. Where — even for a millisecond — did you get the feeling that everything was okay, even if it's falling apart? Oftentimes, it's an aesthetic moment — a sunset, a meal, laughing with a grandkid — some connection to the world where time melts away. There's no need for a past or future. You're just present in that moment. Now, we're paying attention in this more subtle way. Let's work with that. Keep an eye out. Take a picture. Then, we can explore stringing together these moments.” Dr. Miller's question isn't just an invitation to savor these moments. It's a calling not to miss them. In this episode snippet, we discuss opening our hearts and daring to be moved. What beautiful moments can you string together this week? How might you fully appreciate them?

Capturing Beautiful Moments In Care with CareApp Founder – Allison Nikula Being able to capture beautiful moments in the aged care and disabled care industries is an achievement that has Allison filled with a sense of love and purpose. A person with many facets, Allison Nikula embodies what it means to be a “life lover”. As we know, top achievers in life are “busy” people and Allison is no different. Allison is a wife, mother, daughter, friend and an accidental entrepreneur! Allison's massive personality shines in this conversation as she delves into some enticing questions around:· Being an “accidental” entrepreneur· The journey of an idea while sitting with a glass of wine to CareApp as it is today· Her personal life and how that's entwined with her business· The value her business brings to the world· What's made her a better mother· What in her childhood led to the type of businesswoman she is todayAlong Allison's journey through adulthood, she has ceased opportunities that have given her the next set of skills she has needed to take on her next role. Allison is not a person to sit idly by; she is someone who thrives on challenging herself and learning constantly by making mistakes and failing forward. One of her greatest achievements has been the development of the award winning, CareApp. She believes that capturing beautiful moments in care develops and strengthens the connections between the elderly/disabled, their carers and their families. My key takeaways from this conversation with Allison are: · Make sure you don't lose connection with family & friends on the journey· Chunk down goals/actions into 24 hour sections· Sleep needs to be celebrated! A quote from the conversation that stuck with me:“I realised I had the backbone, conviction and grit to take on Everest kind of tasks” Great Authors Allison recommends: Brené Brown: https://brenebrown.com/ Richard Branson: https://www.virgin.com/branson-family/richard-branson-blog Simon Sinek: https://simonsinek.com/Janine Allis: https://www.janineallis.com.au/Connect with Allison here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/allison-nikula/Thank you for listening, if you enjoyed the episode please rate the show and write a review that shares with others what you enjoyed the most. When did you stop believing it was possible for it to come true? We are called to be a people who pray until something happens. We do not have to live with the idea that we are going to be broken the rest of our lives. We can be people who know God's part of prayer is the outcome, but ours is the belief. For the 19th episode of Darmstadt On Air, two composers have picked music that they like and find beautiful. Starting with one moment from each other’s oeuvre, Hans Thomalla and Katherine Young discuss music by the Roscoe Mitchell Sextet, by Carola Bauckholt and by Michelle Lou. And they also ask what makes beautiful moments, as did Theodor W. Adorno in his radio essay from 1965 which has the same title: “Schöne Stellen – Beautiful Moments”. Hans Thomalla has a long history with Darmstadt: winner of the Kranichstein Music Prize in 2004, he has been a regular member of the faculty during the last years. Hans was born in Germany in 1975 and is professor for composition at Northwestern University in Chicago, where he founded and directs the Institute for New Music. Katherine Young works as a composer, bassoonist and improviser. When she first came to Darmstadt in 2014, she won a stipend for the Summer Course two years later and was commissioned a new piece for guitar and electronics. Katherine is now based in Atlanta and teaches composition at Emory University. But she also has deep ties to the Chicago music scene, having lived and made music there for many years.

MERRY SHITMAS TO ONE AND ALL. This year has been more difficult than most. And Christmas is fast approaching like a dark, thick cloud up ahead. And I know a lot of us are really struggling right now. However, throughout the year, a lot of us have also experienced some beautiful moments too. From buying your first homes, to graduating, getting married, getting pregnant - the list goes on. And I think it's so important to share the amazing things that can happen in our lives despite our grief. Our grief will never leave us - but there's no reason why happiness can't join the party too. Sending all of you an abundance of love this year. You're in my thoughts. This is an episode full of questions! We’ve got answers! Have you ever wondered how labs develop black & white film? Do your photos tell a story? We’ve also got an interview with David Chao, a zine review and some news!Answering MachineDo you feel that your photos or a selection of your photos tell a larger story? It was an odd question this week. Did it break Eric? It probably did. But we had an array of answers and some fun discussion.Hello, DavidOur interview this episode is with David Chao. David grew up between San Francisco and Osaka, Japan. The way he captures the story of a people and their culture is something a bit different than we’ve seen before. While his individual photos may be striking, his series and collections are what create his powerful narrative.@davidchao.film on IGdavidchaophotography.comHere are a few of his photos:How Do Labs Process Black & White Film? But when a photographer drops their film off at a lab, all of those choices are left to the lab. Now, granted, these folks are professionals, often with decades of experience. They’ve honed their craft from an art to a science and back again.Still, we’ve always wondered what happens when you drop black & white film off at a lab. We’ve both done it before, and both had no idea what goes on behind the scenes. We just dropped off the rolls and picked them up a few days later. They looked great and we didn’t really question why.But now we are. Why? Why do they look so good? It’s a question that’s always been in my head. So we reached out to about a dozen labs – and a HUGE thanks to the five that responded. We asked them two questions. First:Do you have a specific developer that you use or each common emulsion? And second:What is the practice for when a customer brings you a roll of some mysterious black & white emulsion? For example, some oddball low ISO Soviet film.We talked with five different labs:Panda Lab – @pandalabseattleCafe Obscura – @cafeobscurasudburyRoberts Camera – @robertscameraIconLA – @iconlaBlue Moon Camera – @bluemooncameraEach answered these two questions in some really interesting and unique ways.Zine ReviewThis is a halfsize, landscape zine, 32 pages, color and b&w. As the name highly suggests, this was taken on a roadtrip from New York to Charleston, South Carolina, though he dips down into Savannah. The photos are mostly empty, which is right in my wheelhouse. This is what I like to shoot, and this is what I like to see. The B&W shots, mostly on HP5, live up to all the praise of that emulsion. Even the Fomapan looks wonderful (something I really can’t make happen).Daniel recently reprinted this issue, and it’s available on his website – danielnovakphoto.com for $8.The Slow Meow ZineOur first rebranded film was dubbed the Slow Meow (it was Tasma Mikrat 200). It was neat to see how many of you used the hashtag and shared their results on IG.So we’ve been talking about this. While this is *our* podcast, we really like to open it up to the community. And because of that, we’d like to make a community zine. And since so many of you shot with the Slow Meow, we’d like to make a zine of a selection of those photos. So if you got the film, we’d like you to submit six of your favorite Slow Meow photosWe’re going to compile a zine together with everyone who has shot with it. Everyone who appears in the zine will receive a free copy (you can always buy more copies). The rest will be sold and traded like any other zine.Criteria:Size of image: at least 3600 x 2400(ish) at 300dpiCut off date: July 30Submit via Email only: allthroughalens.podcast@gmail.comInfo needed: Name; IG/Twitter handle; Camera used; Mailing address—Be sure to check out our Dev Party episodes. The WHY behind the Most Hated F-Word Podcast Hi. I'm Shaun – I am a certified financial planner, and I obsessed with relationships... financial ones, that is. I like finances, and I like talking. So, welcome to The Most-Hated F-Word podcast! Our mission is to focus on the intersection between our minds, our money, and what matters most. We will redefine the concept of retirement and find out what true financial independence really means. On today's episode I discuss WHY I started a podcast and explore the intersection between our minds, our money and what matters the most. About: As a trained and practicing Certified Financial Planner, Shaun believes the last thing we want to hear is “save more, pay off your credit cards, invest your money.” Instead, Shaun deeply believes the key to living a financially-free life is rooted in our money psychology. And by identifying our money stories and money scripts that unconsciously impact how we think, act and feel towards money – we can start to gain control over our money relationships. When we understand our money relationships, and what's important, our entire money framework changes in a healthy manner where we can experience financial independence. Shaun is on a mission to educate and empower people so they can live their happiest and most fulfilled lives. For Shaun, financial literacy is not about becoming rich, it's about living our most enriched lives. I believe that the last thing we all really want to hear is save more pay off your credit cards invest more money. These are very important things but we hear them all the time and we all often find ourselves not doing these things and becoming frustrated with ourselves. So I feel that the key to living this financially free life is actually deeply rooted in our money. G and our money relationships and I feel like if we first start by identifying what are our money stories and typically these stories are unconsciously impacting how we think act and feel towards money when we actually take the time to examine them we can start to gain control of our money relationship and find out why we're not making these seemingly simple decision to save more pay your credit card off in so forth. Earth And I really really do feel that when we understand our money relationships and then identify what's really important to us in our life our entire money framework can change in a healthy Manner and that's the intention of the most hated f word. Now I'm super excited to launch this podcast. It's something that I've wanted to do for a long time as I ...

Key Links: Instagram: @abbey_dags Twitter: @abbey_dags Facebook ___ This week Laura chats with Olympic distance runner, Abbey Cooper (D’Agostino). Abbey graduated from Dartmouth as the most decorated Ivy League runner in history, sporting seven NCAA titles. Her principle race was the 5000m in which she narrowly missed qualifying for the 2012 Olympics. Her first few years running professionally for New Balance weren’t exactly smooth sailing as she began encountering one injury after another. The challenges she raced in recovery built in her a resilience and humility that would prepare her to handle an even bigger hurdle that was to come. She went into the 2016 Olympic trials battling a stress fracture in her shin, but still made the team. In the few weeks between the trials and the Games she suffered another stress fracture in her pelvis which restricted her to only non-weight bearing training; she was not allowed to run at all until she lined up for her preliminary event. The event wouldn’t go exactly as planned, but a fall, a split-second decision, and a forever memorable finish would eventually go viral and spread the goodwill of the Olympic around the world. Coined “The Most Beautiful Moment” of the Rio Games, Abbey’s choice catapulted her to a worldwide stage - a platform she holds with humility and for a purpose greater than herself. For this episode I had a great conversation with Trygve and Kristen Deede Johnson. Kristen is the professor of Theology and Formation at Western Theological Seminary. Trgyve is the Hinga-Boersma Dean of the Chapel at Hope College. They are parents of two children. Questions to Consider: Trygve talks of having to unlearn some of the lessons he learned in sports. One of those lessons is: “Your identity is defined by your performance.” In what area of your life are you tempted to equate your identity with your performance? Is it work? Parenting? You own athletic endeavors? Your spiritual journey? When he was playing baseball in college, Trygve started asking “What if I played, not to win, but for beautiful moments?” Have you seen your athlete create beautiful moments, even if the game or match ended in a loss? Kristen asks, “What is the cost of youth sports for our family?” and “What is the cost for our community?” Is there a risk that a focus on “my” kids hinders my ability to think about “our” kids? One question that emerged in this episode is: “Is it OK not to play?” Another is: “Do we have permission to imagine alternative lives for our families?” How did this strike you? How would you answer this? How would you kids answer it? Kristen offers three practices for parents of young athletes to focus on for their own spiritual formation. Which of these might be one you can focus on in the next week? Prayer – She mentions the prayer of examen. You can learn more about this here: upperroom.org/resources/the-examen Sabbath – Schedule breaks for rest Sleep – “It's a tremendous act of trust.” More from Kristen at kristenjohnson.org Follow BSD on Facebook today! We work a lot and we’re responsible so time off is a good thing. A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach
Ever had an experience that was so profound it altered you forever? Ever had a once in a lifetime experience that brought you so much joy? I'm sure you have. But those moments can be few and far between and many times our of our control. While I (Phil Svitek) truly wish upon you those extraordinarily beautiful moments in your life, I am more concerned with how you find meaning in the everyday. The moments that are much more quiet and subdued. The ones that could even be classified as mundane like laundry, an activity that has to be repeated over and over throughout life. These types of moments we don't talk about much. They're certainly not written about it books or shown on TV. If we talk about activities such as doing laundry with anyone it's usually in a begrudging manner. Like, “crap, I have to do laundry.” But even though we don't talk about them or consider them much, I want to pose to you that these moments are equally as profound as the once-in-a-lifetime events. Maybe even more so. Here's why. Because if we can't learn to find meaning in the everyday then we'll end up depressed. You can't just go from one amazing experience to another amazing experience. More often times than not, these monotonous moments amount to more of our time than the special ones. Even successful people that you admire have moments of down time that they need to fill. It is how we fill these moments that defines us. And in this lesson I explore questions such as these and offers insights from the stoics, Viktor Frankl (author of Man's Search for Meaning), Thomas Edison, Dan Millman (author of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior) and artist Andy Goldsworthy to derive at a solution. If you'd like to experience more meaning from life, this episode is for you. Be sure to leave a comment.
