What's up, dudes? Now that Masters of the Universe is out in theaters, we're gonna have a watch-along party for the Filmation classic “He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special”. I've got Mike Westfall from Advent Calendar House, Jeff Loftin from Lost Christmas podcast, Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast, and Chad Young from Horror Movie BBQ with me to provide commentary and enjoy the ride! The Filmation special begins with Orko accidentally blasting off in the Sky Spy and crash-landing on Earth, where he meets Miguel and Alisha. Before long, the kids and their Christmas tree are transported back to Eternia, and Horde Prime decides the Christmas spirit is dangerous enough to require immediate villainous intervention. Naturally, Skeletor and Hordak both want the reward. The joy of the episode is watching the cosmic toy-commercial universe collide with sincere Christmas messaging. He-Man and She-Ra punch through danger, the villains compete, the kids explain Christmas, and Skeletor discovers that warmth, puppies, and holiday goodwill might be harder to resist than Castle Grayskull itself.Orko in a spaceship? "I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull." We watched "Masters of the Universe" (2026), directed by Travis Knight, and yes, we have the power. Although this movie may have been made for a very niche audience, if you let your guard down, you might just have some fun. This production was a long time in the making, plagued by changes in the cast, directors, and studios, but the final product was worth the wait. Nicholas Galitzine shines as Prince Adam, the muscle bound Eterian hero banished to Earth, yearning for his fantastical home. All of us little gay boys knew the feeling of not belonging here! As hard a pill it may be to swallow, we can also report that the legendary b*ner k*ller, Jared Leto, is doing some fine work as Skeletor. He pines after He-Man, trapped in a homoerotic dance that our audience loved, and showcased some actual comedic timing. The supporting cast was fierce, the costumes were on point, and the cameos were plentiful. Overall, it's… not bad. Check out our spoiler-filled review for our thoughts on the post-credits scenes and what's to come! By The Power of Grayskull.....For the first time in thirty-nine years, He-Man and the other Masters of the Universe are back on the big screen! After being sent to Earth as a young boy more than fifteen years ago to hide him from the evil Skeletor (Oscar-winner Jared Leto), Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) has finally found his sword and is returning to his homeland of Eternia to reclaim his legacy. Of course, it gets more complicated than that as not only has much of Eternia (including Castle Grayskull where he's from) been decimated and taken over by Skeletor and his minions but Adam has to figure out HOW to use the sword and become the hero he was always meant to be.....He-Man. ;) Oscar-nominated filmmaker Travis Knight (Kubo & the Two Strings, Coraline, Bumblebee) directs this modernized adaptation of the He-Man legend which originated on a popular animated show in the '80's. Also included in the cast are Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, among several others.....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us Fan MailSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Tonight on Damn You Hollywood, we review Masters of the Universe! Based on Mattel's iconic franchise, this 2026 fantasy adventure marks the long-awaited return of He-Man to the big screen, nearly forty years after the cult-classic 1987 film. Directed by Travis Knight and starring Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, the film follows Adam's journey back to Eternia, where he must embrace his destiny, wield the Power Sword, and defend his world from the sinister Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. Featuring a cast that includes Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, Kristen Wiig, and Idris Elba, the film blends sword-and-sorcery action, science-fiction spectacle, and classic 1980s nostalgia. After a troubled development process that bounced between studios for over a decade, Masters of the Universe finally arrives in theaters. Did Amazon MGM successfully bring Eternia to life, or should this franchise have remained in Castle Grayskull? What's up, dudes? It's the toy company that practically owned Christmas morning in the mid-80s! Yes, it's Mattel — the plastic powerhouse behind Barbie, He-Man, Hot Wheels, and enough colorful cardboard packaging to completely bury your living room floor! Today we're talking the 1984 Mattel Christmas Wish List!Mattel goes all the way back to 1945, when Harold “Matt” Matson and Elliot Handler started a small company making picture frames. In this episode of Casual Chats, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 1987 live action film Masters of the Universe based on the 1983 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated and produced by Filmation based on the toys. In the planet Eternia, He-Man, Man of Arms, Teela, and a new character named Gwildor are fighting the evil minions of Skeletor to prevent him from taking over Castle Grayskull. Gwildor's invention, the Cosmic Key, is able to travel to different dimensions across the galaxies. Skeletor sends his soldiers to capture them to retrieve the device, but Gwildor uses it for them to escape to another planet in another dimension: Earth. Meanwhile, a teenage girl and her boyfriend get caught in the fight of He-Man and Skeletor finding the Cosmic Key.When the film premiered in theaters, it made $17 million dollars out of $22 million dollar budget with negative reviews from critics calling it a Star Wars and Conan the Barbarian ripoff with He-Man plastered on it. Over the years, it has gained a cult following for its campy humor and offbeat depictions of He-Man and Skeletor. What did Arun and Patricia think of this film?

Paulo relives a childhood Castle Grayskull nightmare and makes a Freudian slip that would give He-Man and Fisto a very profitable Only Fans account. Status Quo locking Spandau Ballet in the bathroom, Bananarama don't need town cars, a very thirsty Boy George and Bono's villain origin story, we find out how they made the original Band Aid - and yes, we do swoon over George Michael, his beautiful voice and very symmetrical black and white shirt. ELTON JOHN IS BLIND - for now, but he's getting better, a little click bait never hurt anyone. Dori does a live unboxing and finds a sheep dressed in sheeps clothing. Paulo found a movie staring Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett that featured a lot of nudity. And only 10% of it was Farrah Fawcett. READ ROB'S BOOK HERE: https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/2215-mastering-the-universe Mastering the Universe Introduction: When we think of "Masters of the Universe," we may be reminded of He-Man, with his mighty sword, standing guard at Castle Grayskull against Skeletor and his monstrous allies. But in Professor Rob Larson's latest book, "Masters of the Universe: The Obscene Wealth of the Ruling Class, What They Do with Their Money, and Why You Should Hate Them Even More," There are no animated heroes or villains. Instead, Larson presents us with the all-too-real battle between the 1% and the rest of the world, where the obscene wealth of the elite continues to grow unchecked, resulting in deepening inequality, environmental devastation, and an entrenchment of power that threatens democracy itself. The title may sound exaggerated, but Larson methodically explains how the ruling class wields unimaginable wealth, shaping global economic, political, and environmental outcomes in their favor. As Larson writes, "The system isn't broken—it's rigged. For the wealthy, inequality isn't a bug in the system; it's the feature." Since the Occupy movement brought the 1% into the national consciousness, this elite class has only fortified its hold over our institutions, exploiting crises like the COVID-19 pandemic to increase their fortunes even further. Today, we'll delve into the moral, economic, and environmental obscenities of extreme wealth with Rob Larson, exploring how the elites use their fortunes to maintain power and destroy the planet. We'll also examine what, if anything, can be done to dismantle this concentrated power before it's too late. We'll talk with economist and professor Rob Larson about his latest book, why we should hate the obscenely wealthy even more than we do, and much more! Remember the days when action figures ruled our imaginations and epic battles between good and evil played out in our living rooms? Step into 1987, when a beloved toy line and animated series leaped onto the big screen in a live-action spectacle. In this 80s flick a intergalactic battle spills from the fantastical world of Eternia into our own. Marketed as the “Star Wars of the 80s, it didn't quite live up to the hype. But today it is remembered as a cult classic that brought our favorite toy characters to life in a whole new way. So jump through the travel portal, grab the Power Sword and shout, 'I have the power!' as Tim Williams and guest co-hosts, Chris Adams (from "Retro Life 4 You Podcast"), Gerry D (from "Totally Rad Christmas Podcast"), and Laramy Wells (from "Moving Panels Podcast") discuss “Masters of the Universe” from 1987 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover on this episode: The Throne Room set of Castle Grayskull was originally two large adjoining sound stages. The wall between the sets was knocked down to make one gigantic sound stage. At that time, this was the largest set Hollywood had seen in over 40 years. Production designer William Stout intentionally wanted the interior of Castle Grayskull to combine elements of both good and evil. In an online interview, Stout explained, "This was the seat of power for the entire universe. I reasoned that power is neither good nor bad; it's what you make of it and how you use it. Above floor level were what I called the Space Gods—giant bronze statues of those who had used the power based in that room for good. Below floor level was the dark side—demonic creatures that represented power used for bad or evil." Many reviewers compared the movie to the cartoon, but it was based on the toys. The toys initially portrayed He-Man as a barbarian in the first mini-comics, not as Prince Adam or Orko. Ed Pressman was interested in the property before the cartoon aired and purchased the movie rights for the Mattel characters, not from Filmation. Tread Perilously starts the summer Total Request Live with the debut episode of the forgotten ABC TV series The Charmings. Waking up after a 1000-year sleeping curse, Snow White Charming, her husband Eric, and their sons find themselves in 1980s Los Angeles. They attempt to re-establish some sort of life with a home, new neighbors, and a new school for the boys. But when Snow's stepmother, Lillian White, suggests they'll never fit in and a note from the school's psychologist puts the family on blast, will Snow and Eric accept that they must lie to make modern life work? Erik, of course, watched The Charmings when it aired. Justin wonders, "why is this?" The pair try to determine all the things the pilot is missing. They also try to figure out who would've been the "budget John Mahoney" at the time. A digression about The Birdcage happens immediately. The endless abyss outside Castle Grayskull becomes incredibly important. The problems with the show's premise are explored -- including a solution to its biggest conceptual fault -- a few casting changes are proposed, and Erik shocks Justin by revealing the presence of First Hobie as one of the Charming sons. Also, a nostalgic feeling for the soft-spoken man selling speakers by the highway emerges.
On the seventh episode of Cartoons Of Our Youth, Andy Atherton welcomes back Shawn Kidd to talk about one of his favorite cartoons, He-Man & The Masters of the Universe. The guys talk about Filmation's animation style; Superman tropes present in the show; Orko as a sidekick; the signature scene transitions; where Skeletor ranks as an 80's cartoon villain; the many characters on both the hero and villain's sides; characters keeping secrets from each other; Castle Grayskull; the fact that the show was created to support the toyline; the PSAs that close each episode; comparisons to the movie “Beastmaster” and the now famous Skeletor meme before moving on to live watch the two episodes that Shawn selected for them. The ones picked are S1 E3 “The Shaping Staff” & S2 E43 “Teela's Triumph”. So grab a bowl of your favorite cereal, park yourself in front of the TV and join us for some great cartoons!

Produced by Kevin Smith and Powerhouse Animation Studios, Masters of the Universe: Revolution is the second entry of the animated superhero fantasy television series. Luke and Nathan get into the Netflix sequel to the 1983-1985 series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation, which ignores the events of The New Adventures of He-Man (1990). Following He-Man's return and Teela now assuming the mantle of the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, Skeletor seeks revenge after being corrupted with a technological virus created by his master, Hordak.

Prince Adam defends Castle Grayskull and becomes the most powerful man in the universe when he holds his magic sword. He fights villains and reunites with his twin sister.
The Barbie movie could very well herald in a new era of toys to movie adaptations. But it is far from Mattels first attempt as there first swing was 1987's Masters Of The Universe featuring Dolph Lundgren as the titual He-Man. Opening with Skeletor now in posession of Castle Grayskull things have never looked worse for Eternia which is the perfect time He-Man and friends to take a trip to New Jersey. Husband and Wife cover Job chapter 26: Job Declares God's Sovereignty. We talk about He-Man (the most powerful man in the universe) and the Sorceress (the heroic guardian of Castle Grayskull). Wife does a fairly decent impression of Skeletor (the archenemy and uncle of He-Man).Other sound effects include a mimicry of someone who is aghast, as well as a gliding serpent, both pre- AND post-piercing.
