The holidays can intensify grief, especially for those navigating infertility, pregnancy loss, and baby loss—and it often feels like no one is talking about it.In this episode, Sarah is joined by Dr. Camelia Clarke, a nationally recognized death care expert and spokesperson for the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), to explore why grief during the holidays can feel heavier for individuals and families experiencing infertility and loss.Together, they discuss how grief shows up differently after miscarriage, stillbirth, and infertility, why grief doesn't follow a timeline, and how to hold both sorrow and moments of joy at the same time. Dr. Clarke also shares guidance on setting boundaries during the holidays, navigating difficult family dynamics, and supporting loved ones who are grieving—without minimizing their pain. This episode offers compassionate insight, practical support, and validation for anyone facing holiday grief related to infertility or pregnancy loss, as well as for those who want to show up better for the people they love.

Send us a textGrief can feel louder when the world turns up the volume on cheer. We're naming that truth and offering a different path through the season: not forced positivity, but resilient presence. As a shamanic practitioner and grief doula, I share how resilience in grief isn't about “being strong.” It's about staying soft enough to feel and steady enough to come back to yourself, again and again, even when the calendar and the lights say “be merry.”We unpack why holidays amplify loss—rituals, anniversaries, family systems, and the pressure to perform joy—and how to navigate the first holiday without someone you love or a last holiday you're savoring. You'll hear practical grief rituals you can start today: lighting a candle, setting an ancestor plate, writing letters to your loved one or your future self, cooking the dish that carries their story, and taking a gentle “grief lap” walk after the meal to digest food and feelings. I offer boundary scripts that protect your energy, permission to leave early or skip traditions that hurt, and ideas for creating new, simpler rituals that fit your real capacity. We also dive into nervous system care with somatic tools and sensory supports: four-count breathing, one-minute shaking and stretching to move stuck emotion, herbal allies like chamomile, rose, and tulsi, the comfort of warmth from tea or a heating pad, and grounding with nature or a weighted blanket. Community matters too—text a friend to witness you for five minutes, sit in a support circle, or visit a spiritual space where you can arrive as you are. And a gentle reframe to carry with you: joy is not betrayal. Laughter, warmth, and small moments of light can live beside sorrow without canceling it.If you're craving deeper support, I'm opening a limited number of intimate one-on-one sessions this winter with somatic and shamanic tools, emotional processing, ancestral connection, and integration guidance. The holidays don't just remind you who's at your table...They remind you who isn't.When you're divorced, that quiet has a sound. It's the clink of one mug instead of two.The solo grocery run.The ache of seeing everyone else's “perfect” family photos. And the part no one talks about?Your nervous system feels all of it long before your mind catches up.In this episode, Dawn, Joy, and Tiff walk you through why holiday grief hits differently... not just emotionally, but neurologically. Your brain codes the holidays as both comfort and threat, and that dual-wiring explains so much of the confusion, anxiety, tight chest, and “I don't belong anywhere” thoughts that tend to surface this time of year. And today, we're going to help you work with all of it.In this episode:✨ Why holiday grief feels louder in your body — the neuroscience behind scents, memories, and tradition triggering loss and longing✨ The real reason divorced women feel like they “don't belong anywhere” — and how this actually traces back to belonging to yourself✨ The phrase to repeat at any holiday party when your chest tightens “I am safe to be seen in this moment.”✨ A 60-second bathroom-stall nervous system reset Cold-water wrists, humming, squats, breath work — your new somatic toolkit for holiday overwhelm✨ How to turn this season from performance into personal power (New traditions, choosing yourself, claiming authenticity, and ditching the performative holiday mask)✨ Why your circle shifts after divorce — and why that shift is actually a sign of growth, not failureThis episode is a warm hand on your back, reminding you that nothing about your holiday pain means you're behind, broken, or unlovable. It means your nervous system still remembers love — and is learning how to feel safe again without him. This week's Thursday Premium episode is a guided, real-time grounding practice for the exact moment your nervous system spirals — in the grocery store aisle, the car, or the corner of the holiday party. If you're not a premium listener yet, now is the season to join. As I glance at the calendar, I realize it's that time of year again—though somehow, it seems to have arrived more quietly this time. With grief, it usually announces itself well in advance, looming heavily overhead and filling the air with a sense of oppressive anticipation. I've walked this path four times now, starting at the end of 2020. I wouldn't say it gets easier or harder, but it does become different.Does it still loom? Yes, in its own way. Is it as oppressive? Not like that first year. This is holiday grief, and sadly, it's something everyone will face at some point in their lives. There's no clear guidebook for navigating it, no perfect way to manage the milestones it brings. In this episode, I'll share my experiences and some suggestions others have shared with me about how to walk through moments like these. At the very least, I hope to offer some insight into what you might expect as you face your own holiday grief.
SHOW NOTES We read the Bible verse that God will make all things come together for our good. Well, how in the world is what you are going through good? How can it ever be good? This is where I struggled in the beginning. I read about a Christian singer who lost her husband in a diving accident. I could so relate with the pain and confusion and then she shared how she had to trust in God and was given hope. She, like Monica while she was sick, had a hope I couldn't rely on. I had moments of hope but not an underlying confidence in God. I thought that all the success stories – all the giants in the faith were blessed and loved by God in a way that I would never understand. But I held on to those stories and replayed what they did when they were hurting. After over a year of fighting it out with God – and those were some tough days – my heart softened, and I began to trust God. I went back to those stories and started to believe that God is no respecter of persons – that if he did it for them – He would do it for me. Do you believe that yet? Boy, when you get a hold of that kind of confidence aka trust in God and HIS plan, then you'll see progress. Grief is the hardest thing you'll ever walk through but on the other side you'll be able to say – God will make all things come together for my good. Today I'm talking about one way to build that very needed hope! WORD of the Week “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
