We sat down with Ryan Marsden, the Executive Director of the Recovery Café and President of Rise Recovery. With personal experience in long-term recovery, Ryan recognized a need to connect individuals with the resources to cope with and overcome trauma, substance abuse, grief, and other struggles in safe spaces. These organizations provide needed resources for treatment and live-in residential services. The goal is to get individuals out of isolation and build community. In this episode, we sit down with Carole Terkula from the Lutheran Foundation. We discuss the Mental Health Advocate Initiative and how it is transforming the local church in Fort Wayne. The Lutheran Foundation welcomed its third cohort of congregational Mental Health Advocates during an in-person kick-off event held at The Lutheran Foundation on April 20. The Lutheran Foundation now has a total of 61 Mental Health Advocates serving in 53 congregations in northeast Indiana! The Mental Health Advocates are either church staff or lay people passionate about mental health who are nominated by their pastor.
