A major merger in the hotel sector. Two local players, Capstone Hotel Management and Marsden Group, are set to merge from April 1st, creating the country's largest independent hotel platform. With around 45 properties and 2,500 rooms, the group is positioned to compete directly with big international hoteliers. Marsden CEO Sajad Bassam has been appointed CEO of the combined group, and told Mike Hosking they had two big local businesses performing well independently, and when they saw the opportunity to create something more powerful, they took it. Dr. Steve Marsden was born in Ontario, Canada and raised in Western Canada. In our conversation, he describes a pivotal moment in his childhood that led him to consider veterinary medicine as a career.He earned his DVM from the University of Saskatchewan in 1988, then went into mixed and then small animal practice. He became interested in Homeopathy as a way to help his patients, and earned his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and his Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in 1999.He co-founded the Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic as well as the Natural Path Clinic for people in 2001. Shane Jones is fast becoming my favourite politician. And he might have summed up the Government's issues with one on of his increasingly famous quips. "The Ruth Richardson bare austerity approach is not delivering the economic growth we need." He is right, isn't he? Classic liberal politics, trimming and cutting, is not the massive bomb we need under us. As Chris Bishop yesterday was offering more detail on RUC rates and a move away from petrol taxes, all of which is fine, Shane and his mate Winston were wandering around Marsden Point and talking of making it a special economic zone. It'd have tax treatment and incentives to get people to invest and do things. Marsden has got land and a port, it's close to shipping lanes, etc. Ireland has made these things famous. They cut a deal on rates, or tax, bring 'em in, stoke 'em up and watch the growth explode. Image might be a problem. Shane and Winston both come from, well, Marsden, so it's a bit nepotistic. But the idea is sound. Shane has also this week announced a massive upheaval of fishing, the biggest in decades. So it's the big stuff that we may need because the regular size stuff hasn't provided the heft we hoped for. Yes, yes, yes, they inherited a mess, we get that, but the results are what count. As ACT changed the laws around garden sheds and Nicola talks about supermarkets, it might just be ideas beyond our normal comprehension are what are actually called for. The irony of the Jones' idea is it's not part of the coalition deal. I could ask, why not? Is the Ruth Richardson line an acceptance that what they thought would work, hasn't? Another irony – I'm not sure how Shane and Winston can wander around Marsden blue-skying their way out of recession, when it's them that's holding up the foreigners from buying a house after they have invested tens of millions into the country. But credit where credit is due, Jones seems to have taken on the mantle of the arse kicker. He is where a lot of us are at. This is not a bad Government, far from it. I feel like its a universal feeling we all get when we have a crush on someone. Its like you now see in color and the only time you think is to think about that person. It's a really intense but exciting feeling and the same feeling Ranae Marsden felt for her boyfriend Brayden. Renae had met Brayden through her best friend Camilla and to Renae Brayden was perfect. She began living the intermittent fasting lifestyle in 2017, after learning about Dr. Michael Moseley's 5:2 approach. She went to Facebook to find a group about intermittent fasting, and ended up in Gin's original Facebook group where she soon became an active member and later a moderator. Lucy's preference for a balanced, nutritious diet aligned with her job as a cookery teacher, making it more practical for her to eat less frequently throughout the day. Over time, she adapted to a relaxed one meal a day approach, which is the lifestyle she lives today. Gin and Lucy talk about how they both define “one meal a day” as a multi-course meal that spans several hours, rather than one plate of food in a short period of time. Lucy discusses the significant dietary changes she made based on her Zoe test results, eliminating foods like white rice, pasta, and bread that didn't work well for her body. She found delicious swaps such as barley and pulses such as lentils and beans, which she incorporates into weekly meal preparations. Lucy's meal prep routine involves making weekly pulse mixtures and mega salads composed of various sprouts, herbs, and whatever ingredients she has on hand, optimizing her efficiency in the kitchen. She emphasizes the practical approach of batching and freezing meal components for quick and healthy eating options throughout the week.
