In view of the mercies of God....... Today we continue in our study of the book of Hosea and as we look at chapters 6 and 7, Pastor Dustin Clegg offers 3 observations:1) Faithful love, not religious emotion. Continuing with the series, In View of His Mercies, today we look at Hosea 2 and explore Awkward, Painful, Messy Mercy. Pastor Dustin Clegg walks us though the chapter and shares his observations:1) The holiness of Jesus leads Him to come to us in our gross rebellion. (2:13)2) Jesus fiercely loves unrepentant people. (2:3-13). - His fierce love blocks our path. (vs 6) - His fierce love will not allow us to be satisfied in our unholy pursuits. (vs 7) - His fierce love cares for us even when we are running away. (vs 8) - His fierce love exposes our need. (vs 9) - His fierce love crashes our party. (vs 10) - His fierce love keeps us unsatisfied in outward religious activity. (vs 11) - His fierce love removes our ability to provide for ourselves. (vs 12)3) Jesus unexpectedly loves completely redeeming wayward, but repentant people. (2:14-22)

We are starting a new teaching series based on Romans 12:1 as we reflect on the mercies of God in our lives, In View of His Mercies, and today we look at Hosea 1 and explore the message titled, A Prostitute and a Preacher Walk Into a Chapel. Pastor Dustin Clegg has the following observations:1) Jesus has every right to call His people to impossible and dreadful things to put His mercies on display for a broken world to see, and the only way we can rightly do what He calls us to is to be broken over what He has done for us more than what He called us to. Silently, while my house is still quiet, I pour the steaming liquid. The morning hours are sacred, peaceful, and go by too fast. My children, all five of them, will wake up early. The rooms will be filled with voices, doors opening, and then the noises of food being fixed in the kitchen. Although they are older now and can make their own breakfast, I walk in with my empty coffee cup. I’m ready to help them pack their lunches and pour the orange juice. The morning hours will once again be quiet after getting them off to school, but facing my day means I face the truth that ordinary, mundane days are often harder than the busy ones. How do I spend my day? What is truly important? If I made a list, it would be a mile long. New days bring new to-do lists. Jobs, careers, family, and ministry weave together as the years go by, but how do we decide what to do with our days? Each day is a gift from God, and we don’t want to waste our time, so how do we live better? As the new year approaches, you and I want to make our lives better. We want our health to be better, our relationships to be better, and we want our faith to be better. Although New Year’s resolutions are great, maybe even beneficial, what we cannot resolve to do better is our relationship with God. Our connection to God is something to grow, not a goal to reach. I admit that many times over the years, I’ve spent time writing out my goals and aspirations for my life in December and January, including “spiritual things.” I would write down things like praying more, reading my Bible more, and doing more for God. Although we can make tangible goals like that, God is not asking us to reach a certain point, but to continue on in the journey with Him. What if instead of looking for more, we looked for new? In the new year, maybe we can find hope, mercy, and peace not in our goals or resolutions, but in the daily mercies God is already giving us. What do we have that is something we’ve forgotten about God? What if we stopped looking for more and looked to God for the daily? In the book of Lamentations, we see a powerful passage of hope. The author has spent two and a half chapters lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem. Sorrow, death, and fear surrounded the city. The author’s heart was completely overwhelmed. If you are entering this new year with trepidation, fear, or sorrow, listen closely to the turning point that happens here in the following verses. Yet this I call to mindand therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning;great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietlyfor the salvation of the Lord. -Lamentations 3:21-27 (ESV) God’s love, compassion, and mercy are new every morning. Our lives are not built because we make New Year's resolutions or meet all our goals. In the daily choices we make, that’s what really counts. How can we daily look to God for our hope? We don’t know what will happen in the coming year, but we can know for sure God will be on his throne (Psalm 47:2), there is hope (Psalm 9:18), and Christ is with us. (Matthew 28:20) As we enter the new year, don’t forget that God’s mercies are new today. Every year, every morning, and each moment we walk through life, God is with us and His mercy has no end! This gives us a place to start connecting with God right now. Each day, there is enough mercy for that day. There will always be enough. God’s mercy and love are faithful to show up every day without fail. It never runs out. You won’t disappoint, sin, or make mistakes that keep you from God’s love and compassion. We can’t outrun God’s love for us. Don’t get wrapped up in trying to prepare for the whole year in January. Just trust God, there will be enough for each day as it comes. He invites us to live this life one day at a time. Make one resolution or goal: to connect with God daily. Psalm 68:19 says that God “daily bears us up” (ESV). Each day God lifts us, provides for us the hope and mercy we need. God will never fail us. In Romans 8:31-39, Paul tells us what can separate us from God’s love. Spoiler: Nothing can! Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy. — Luke 1:58 The story of Jesus' birth is intertwined with another miraculous birth—that of John, who was born to Elizabeth and Zechariah in their old age. Though Zechariah did not believe at first that this could happen, God fulfilled his promise. And when Zechariah named the child John, as the angel had instructed, he was able to speak again (see Luke 1:11-20; Dec. 4). The name John means “God is gracious.”While we might be used to thinking of God's grace in the birth and life of Jesus, we may also ask about other ways we see God's grace at work in this season. Maybe you have seen a strained relationship restored, or an illness healed. Maybe you have seen temptations lifted, or fears relieved. Can we name such gifts as illustrations of God's grace?Not only did Zechariah and Elizabeth receive God's mercy; they invited their neighbors and relatives to share in their joy in what God had done for them. During the Christmas season, many of us have opportunities to gather with family and friends. Do we also take time with others to share with them our experiences of God's mercy to us?Christmas is a season for reflecting on God's grace and mercy to his people. May you name, and celebrate, that mercy today. Holy God, you surprise us again and again with your grace. Open our eyes to what you are doing, and loosen our tongues to speak of your faithfulness. How we begin our mornings shapes the rest of our day. In our daily prayer and devotional, we are encouraged to reflect on our morning rhythms: Do we tumble out of bed overwhelmed and already anxious, or do we begin the day aware of God’s mercies—fresh, new, and waiting for us at sunrise? Amanda Idleman challenges us to welcome God into our day before anything else. Simple steps—pausing to pray, kneeling beside the bed, reading Scripture before checking messages—invite God’s presence into the earliest moments of our morning. Establishing small but intentional rituals in our homes, such as praying with family before leaving the house, sets a foundation of gratitude and connection with God. God’s mercy meets us daily, but we experience it most fully when we slow down and make space for Him. From the breath in our lungs to the gift of another sunrise, our lives are miracles sustained by His grace. Text: Romans 12:1-2 The Mercies of God is the Basis For the Challenge of Total Commitment GRACE, is when we get what we don't deserve. MERCY, is when we don't get what we DO deserve. Total Commitment Means Being Totally Transformed. The word we get transformed is where we get the word metamorphosis. It's continual and gradual. We should allow the Holy Spirit to help. (2 Corinthians 3:18) In order to know the will of God, we must surrender to that will.
