“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." Isaiah 1:18 Morning by morning, the frost of yesterday melts in the warmth of Your compassion. The stains and shame of the past do not survive the sunrise. Though my sins were scarlet, You whisper “Come,” and the crimson fades to white as snow. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. As Naaman stepped down into Jordan's waters in humble obedience and rose restored, so I step into Your Word and Your will — simple, trusting, and expectant. The Jordan is a threshold, the night a passage, and the dawn Your mercy's announcement. What I could not cleanse by effort, You cleanse by grace. What I could not silence by striving, You quiet with the snowfall of mercy. Psalm 51:7 says, "Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow." Let the old year release its grip; let every accusation be hushed under fresh grace. Roll away reproach as at Gilgal; dress me in the robe of righteousness; crown me with steadfast love and mercy. Order my steps in Your word. Make Your lamp a fire to my path. Teach me to leave only grace-shaped footprints across the day You set before me. Because, Morning by morning new mercies I see: New patience for the unfinished places.Morning by morning new mercies I see, new strength for the unseen battles.Morning by morning new mercies I see; New joy that sorrow cannot steal.Morning by morning new mercies I see; New peace that outlives the storm.Morning by morning new mercies I see; New holiness born not of resolve alone, but of Your Spirit within. Lord, before the year 2025 ends, let me emerge clean — thoughts rinsed, motives sifted, hands made ready for good works. As we cross into 2026, set my footprint on grace. Let forgiveness be my trail, gratitude my pace, compassion my companion. Establish my goings. Keep my heart soft, my tongue gentle, my eyes lifted.  Lamentations 3:22–23 says, "Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness." Prayer for the Day!Heavenly Father, thank you for the daily mercy you release. I receive Your mercy at daybreak and Your faithfulness by night. I renounce every old stain and take hold of the new song You place in my mouth. May my life be a quiet field after snowfall — pure, expectant, unmarked — awaiting the adventures of Your leading. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy. — Luke 1:58 The story of Jesus' birth is intertwined with another miraculous birth—that of John, who was born to Elizabeth and Zechariah in their old age. Though Zechariah did not believe at first that this could happen, God fulfilled his promise. And when Zechariah named the child John, as the angel had instructed, he was able to speak again (see Luke 1:11-20; Dec. 4). The name John means “God is gracious.”While we might be used to thinking of God's grace in the birth and life of Jesus, we may also ask about other ways we see God's grace at work in this season. Maybe you have seen a strained relationship restored, or an illness healed. Maybe you have seen temptations lifted, or fears relieved. Can we name such gifts as illustrations of God's grace?Not only did Zechariah and Elizabeth receive God's mercy; they invited their neighbors and relatives to share in their joy in what God had done for them. During the Christmas season, many of us have opportunities to gather with family and friends. Do we also take time with others to share with them our experiences of God's mercy to us?Christmas is a season for reflecting on God's grace and mercy to his people. May you name, and celebrate, that mercy today. Holy God, you surprise us again and again with your grace. Open our eyes to what you are doing, and loosen our tongues to speak of your faithfulness. For Jesus' sake, Amen.

How we begin our mornings shapes the rest of our day. In our daily prayer and devotional, we are encouraged to reflect on our morning rhythms: Do we tumble out of bed overwhelmed and already anxious, or do we begin the day aware of God’s mercies—fresh, new, and waiting for us at sunrise? Amanda Idleman challenges us to welcome God into our day before anything else. Simple steps—pausing to pray, kneeling beside the bed, reading Scripture before checking messages—invite God’s presence into the earliest moments of our morning. Establishing small but intentional rituals in our homes, such as praying with family before leaving the house, sets a foundation of gratitude and connection with God. God’s mercy meets us daily, but we experience it most fully when we slow down and make space for Him. From the breath in our lungs to the gift of another sunrise, our lives are miracles sustained by His grace. Allow me to be a model of Your mercy to those in my home who watch me start my day. Let my words be ones that point them to You and remind them that You are good. Show us Your ways, Jesus, and teach us Your path. We need You every day. Amen. Great Is Thy Faithfulness: Morning by Morning, New Mercies #RTTBROS #Nightlight"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22-23Some of the most beautiful songs come from the darkest places. Take the hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." You'd think it was written during some mountaintop experience, some season of overwhelming blessing. But the scripture it's based on, Lamentations 3, was written by Jeremiah while watching Jerusalem burn.Let me paint you the picture: Jeremiah had spent forty years warning God's people to turn from their sin. Nobody listened. Now he's sitting in the rubble of his destroyed city, everything he'd known and loved reduced to ashes. And in the middle of that absolute devastation, he writes these words about God's faithfulness.Thomas Chisholm, who wrote the hymn in 1923, understood something of life's difficulties. He struggled with poor health most of his life and wasn't writing from a place of prosperity or ease. He was writing from lived experience, from having watched God prove faithful morning after morning, year after year, even when circumstances were hard.Here's what I love about this hymn: it's not about dramatic miracles or huge interventions. Look at the words: "Morning by morning new mercies I see." Not once in a lifetime. Not occasionally when things get really bad. Morning by morning. Every single day. It's the faithfulness of God in the ordinary moments, the daily provision, the steady presence that never wavers.I think sometimes we're looking for God to show up in the earthquake, the fire, the mighty wind, and we miss Him in the still small voice. We're waiting for the Red Sea to part when God's already providing manna for today."All I have needed Thy hand hath provided." That's a testimony to God's faithful provision of exactly what we need, when we need it. Not always what we want. Not always what we ask for. But what we need.I'm reminded of God's promise to the Israelites in the wilderness. He gave them manna every morning, enough for that day. God was teaching them to trust Him day by day, morning by morning. That's hard for us, isn't it? We want next week figured out, next month secured, next year planned. But God says, "Trust Me for today."Jeremiah was right when he wrote those words in Lamentations, and Chisholm was right when he turned them into this hymn, and it's still true today. God's faithfulness hasn't diminished one bit. His mercies are still new every morning. His compassions still don't fail. And great, truly great, is His faithfulness.So whatever you're facing today, remember: you don't need strength for next week's trial. You just need what God has for you this morning. And guess what? It's already there, fresh and new, waiting for you like manna on the ground.Prayer:Father, thank You that Your faithfulness never wavers, never fails. Help us to see Your mercies new every morning, to recognize Your provision in the ordinary moments, and to trust Your faithfulness even when circumstances are hard. Give us eyes to see all You've already given, and hearts that rest in Your unchanging nature. Weirdly, amazon added the subtitle "A Detective Mystery" to Small Mercies. When one of the best things about this book is that it's NOT a detective at the center. You all know this genre isn't my usual fare, but Lehane's historical focus, together with his excellent prose, and dialogue (plus plot, duh) made this so satisfying to dive into.

This week, Pastor Robby reminds us that yesterday is not today. The things that defined us yesterday don’t have to define us today, and the things that were bad yesterday can be used for good today. In Lamentations 3:22-23, we read that God’s mercies begin afresh each morning. One second is all it takes for the clock to flip from 11:59:59 p.m. to 12:00:00 a.m. and for our lives to change forever. This encouraging word uses two different healings from the New Testament — the blind man in John 9 and the lame man in John 5 — to point us back to the source of these changes: Jesus. Encountering “That Man” is what causes the clock to flip, and it’s not just a one-time occurrence. He will meet us over and over, showing up when we need Him most and revealing different aspects of His character.
