Questions have been raised over who deploys helicopters to transport rescue teams as police apologise over a miscommunication. A 13-year-old girl was left clinging to a cliff in Coromandel Peninsula's Hahei for hours last year - when police mistakenly thought she was dead. They refused to foot the bill for a chopper and a rescue crew made a nearly two-hour car journey. The Professional Firefighters Union's Martin Campbell says there needs to be clarity. Homelessness in Utah has increased by 18% in the past year with nearly 1,000 people each night living on the streets. The privately funded Rescue Mission of Salt Lake and their northern Utah facility Ogden Rescue Mission are sheltering and feeding those who come through their doors. But just as important, their programs address the root causes of homelessness to transform lives. I have spent the past week planning forthcoming episodes and last night I realized I had to “throw together” something for this weekend's episode. When this happens, it can often result in a very eclectic program, indeed, and one which many of my listeners find to be among the most enjoyable Countermelody episodes. I have collected more than enough material for at least a dozen of my so-called “Rescue Mission” episodes, in which I feature artists to whom an entire episode has already been devoted, but for whom I have unearthed additional recordings.
