When running a business and as an entrepreneur, I strongly believe that is our responsibility to show up: as an individual for your community in times of crisis when we see social injustice such as racism But it is often not easy to know what to do and how to show up effectively without getting overwhelmed. To discuss this topic, I am bringing you an expert in community leadership, Naomi Hattaway. "Instead of using the word ‘ally’ use the word ‘antagonist’ but the work starts at your kitchen table"Naomi Hattaway is the founder of I Am A Triangle, an online community with thousands of globally located members with one thing in common – they have lived around the world, away from their passport countries. She also owns 8th & Home Real Estate and Relocation, a nationwide referral network, matching families on the move with real estate professionals who chase communities and not commissions. After living in several locations in the United States, her family (three kids, now in college and high school) moved overseas to Delhi, India where she learned to thrive in the midst of chaos. Following a one-year stint in Singapore, they are now back in the United States, and she has traipsed her way from Florida to Virginia to Ohio and is now back in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. Naomi is passionate about community building and empowering others to thrive, not just survive, in the places they call home. What You Will LearnHow global nomads can take a stand against injustice even when not having voting or local political power Why not being racist is not enough and where the work again racism can start in simple small actions as an individual and as an entrepreneur How entrepreneurs can show up and lead their communities again racism and injustice while making sure to not get overwhelmed and keeping the business in focus Resources And Inspiration:Using your voice to speak up (https://tandemnomads.com/podcast/using-your-voice-to-speak-up/) How to build a powerful community and lead it to the next level – Naomi Hattaway (https://tandemnomads.com/podcast/using-your-voice-to-speak-up/) Catrice Jackson (http://www.catriceology.com/) Antagonist, Advocates and Allies: The Wake Up Call Guide for White Women Who Want to Become Allies with Black Women (https://www.amazon.com/Antagonist-Advocates-Allies-Guide-Become/dp/0983839824) Angela Y. Sarc Fighter: Living with Sarcoidosis and other rare diseases
Sarcoidosis patient Frank Rivera has one of the most severe cases of Sarc you can imagine. "It's easier to tell you where I don't have it, than where I do," Frank told me during our talk on the podcast. Frank was one a runner. A good one, turning a marathon time of 2:30 and running under a 4-minute mile. Now, he walks with a cane. Despite the setbacks, Frank Rivera is one of the loudest voices in the fight against Sarcoidosis. He organizes a walk on Long Island. He's just published a book. He even worked to get a billboard in New York's Times Square to fight Sarcoidosis. I hope you enjoy our talk recorded in February of 2020 at Chevy Chase, Maryland during a meeting of advocates for the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research.Frank's Walk https://www.ticketor.com/sarcoidosisofli/event/6th-annual-sarcoidosis-of-long-island-awareness-walk-187357Frank's website, Sarcoidosis of Long Island https://www.sarcoidosisofli.org/Buy Frank's book: https://www.amazon.com/Walking-Silent-Pain-Autobiography-Resilience/dp/B084QM4ZFV/ref=sr_1_1?crid=H7OUADZISLMH&keywords=walking+in+silent+pain&qid=1581713780&s=books&sprefix=walking+in+silent+pain%2Cstripbooks%2C160&sr=1-1&pldnSite=1Other mentions from the PodcastCycling with Sarcoidosis http://carlinthecyclist.com/category/cycling-with-sarcoidosis/The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/FSR Summits 2020 https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/patient-summits/Donate to my KISS (Kick In to Stop Sarcoidosis) fund for FSR https://stopsarcoidosis.rallybound.org/JohnCarlinVsSarcoidosis?fbclid=IwAR1g2ap1i1NCp6bQOYEFwOELdNEeclFmmLLcQQOQX_Awub1oe9bcEjK9P1EMy story on Television https://www.stopsarcoidosis.org/news-anchor-sarcoidosis/email me sarcfighter@gmail.comSarc Fighter Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/SarcFighter/

E22 Industrial Design Show Notes Nick and Graham again welcome Ethan Moses of Cameradactyl and Butter Grip (https://www.cameradactyl.com/) to discuss Industrial Design and the elements of a camera that make it “work” for the user. The meat of the discussion starts after the first musical interstitial (7:45) with an overlong monolog from Graham. Happily, Nick and Ethan rescue him with insight and mockery. The Konica Autoreflex TC, a camera that has been noted as a camera that is not good for left-eye-dominant individuals but somehow works for people with larger noses. Somehow, Vera Wang works her way into the design. The Volkswagen campaign from the 90s, Fahrvergnugen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CESVgaeD-nI) works its way into the discussion as well. The concept of the left-side shutter release is discussed (21:55) in a way of attempting to break the right-hand dominant design from running the world for lefties. Graham brings up Prime Suspect Tenneson (https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/shows/prime-suspect-tennison/) and their photographic gaff (39:45) and how the knowledge base of how to design film cameras in the digital age is leaving the population. The concept of the Material Is The Message is talked about (51:30) along with the surfaces of cameras like leather, plastic, rubber, etc. Nick brings up the concept of the authenticity of materials. Sometimes a lack of leatherette is better than the original covering. The durability of materials and planed lives of cameras designed today is considered (1:05:00). The appropriateness of materials and form are discussed at 1:09:45 and the concept of the machine looking like other machines in the category is important for consumers to recognize what the purpose of the machine is. All three hosts jump on the Coal-Rolling Idiots of America (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gcb84qn3mU) (1:14:00). If you happen to be one of them, please accept our apologies for denigrating your self-worth. Witness the birth of a camera (1:42:00) as Nick and Ethan hash out a design for a camera that takes an existing lens-shutter system and then schedule the development. Graham talks about micro drills (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0195V3J98/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (1:58:00).
