Most solo entrepreneurs complain that creating content is time consuming and overwhelming. You get motivated to start one day, try to keep up with it, then stop, then pick up again, but eventually you end up giving up once and for all. This means you lose the opportunity to engage with your audience and nurture your relationships with your ideal clients! Your content is what will make your ideal clients know you, like you, trust you and see you as the go-to expert in your field. But the value you provide is not in the quantity of content you produce, it's in the consistency of it! Mental health and mental wellbeing are just as important as your physical and business health. Despite this, many entrepreneurs still struggle with burnout. As Amanda Bates discusses this week, proactively watching what's happening to your mental health is vital to avoid substantial disruption to your business. With examples from her own journey, she explains why managing your mental health can be the difference between an enjoyable, short, planned breaks and unexpected time off due to persistent physical illness. If this was the last thing on earth that I had to do, what could I do for another five years and still be excited about it? In this episode, Amanda also shares when it's best to reach out for support and from whom and offers ideas as to how failure helps your mental health long-term. As a third culture kid Amanda's interest in navigating cross-cultural spaces and identity started young. Her American born, African-raised perspective continues to influence her as she leads the creative direction of The Black Expat, a multimedia platform dedicated to changing the narrative on Black international mobility. She also hosts the Global Chatter podcast which takes a humorous deep dive into these conversations from underrepresented perspectives. When Amanda's not talking the mobile life, she is a student affairs professional at North Carolina State University and a career counselor, with her brand, Bates At Work. Entrepreneurship is certainly the ride of a lifetime. It demands a lot from a person. How do you ride the wave of running your own business with outside influences ever present, large workloads, limited hours and a desire to stay on purpose? And what if you are interested in more than one thing and are competent in various different areas?! You listen to Amanda Bates! In this episode Amanda talks candidly about being an entrepreneur and delivering her purpose through multiple avenues. She offers a wide variety of tips about the importance of your mission and purpose, why working to your strengths increases productivity, and critically, why it's not only okay to fail, but vital for the evolution of you and your business. Her insights into the diverse layers of entrepreneurship are not to be missed. “If you can't delegate, you need to break up your day to make sure that the things that make your business run are absolutely done.” As a third culture kid Amanda's interest in navigating cross-cultural spaces and identity started young. She also hosts the Global Chatter podcast which takes a humorous deep dive into these conversations from underrepresented perspectives. When Amanda's not talking the mobile life, she is a student affairs professional at North Carolina State University and a career counselor, with her brand, Bates At Work. However, there are things you can do about it at your own micro level to feel more empowered in your entrepreneurial journey. “It is not only time for unpaid work to be recognized in our society, but also for players at all the levels of our society to share the ‘caring' burden so that women can have the bandwidth to achieve their own dreams, create their own financial freedom and break the glass ceiling.” In this episode, I want to share with you my take on this challenge and some inspiration to help you not only have the bandwidth to take your business seriously, but also be part of a movement to break the glass ceiling for women, without being broken. https://tandemnomads.lpages.co/portable-business-accelerator-22/ () What you will learn: How I see this societal issue play out in the day-to-day life of women who want to grow a successful portable business while being present for their loved ones What conversation you can have with yourself to make your business a priority What conversation you can have with your family to make yourself a priority Resources and inspiration: Find out more about https://equalcareday.de/en/homepage/ (The Equal Care Day) Read the article: https://centerforpartnership.org/news-events/household-work-would-make-up-30-50-of-gdp-if-it-were-included/ (Household work would make up 30-50% of GDP—if it were included) The OECD Development Centre: https://www.oecd.org/dev/development-gender/Unpaid_care_work.pdf (Unpaid Care Work: The missing link in the analysis of gender gaps in labour outcomes) The World Bank: https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021/08/how-world-bank-s-gender-innovation-lab-is-helping-to-close-the-employment-gap-for-women (This is how COVID-19 has affected women's employment) Susan Hyatt's IG posts: https://www.instagram.com/p/CafJvrxOqlr/ (Weaponized Incompetence) https://www.instagram.com/p/CafLXELuWRi/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link (3 ways to address your partner performing weaponized incompetence) The book: https://www.amazon.com/Boundary-Boss-Essential-Guide-Finally/dp/B09299YSVX/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=boundary+boss&qid=1646136880&sprefix=boundary+%2Caps%2C229&sr=8-1 (Boundary Boss: The Essential Guide to Talk True, Be Seen, and (Finally) Live Free) Learn more about https://www.nonviolentcommunication.com/learn-nonviolent-communication/4-part-nvc/ (the nonviolent communication method) Share Your Love! An expat horse and portable business owner walk into a new life. It sounds a bit like the beginning of a joke doesn't it? Yet, it describes the amazing story of Jaizel Selleslaghs, a Dutch woman who moved to Peru with her husband and her horse and became a successful entrepreneur working with dressage riders around the world. Jaizel is proof that you can build a successful portable business out of anything. In this episode she talks about how she started her business from her greatest passion and how consistency and planning have helped her to maintain her particular business niche. “I think the most important thing is that you keep working on your business. When you don't feel good about it, you want to quit, or you need a break, take your break, pack yourself together and continue again with your business.” She also shares how important the Portable Business Accelerator™ course has been in developing her unique business and completely reinventing what is traditionally an in-person profession. Jaizel Selleslaghs was born in The Netherlands and currently lives in Peru with her Belgian diplomat husband. Her biggest passion is horses – so much so that she moved her own horse from The Netherlands to Peru to continue their lives together. While training horses in Peru and teaching horse riding to Peruvians, Jaizel also started her own portable business PLANtastic Dressage, in which she designs personalized training plans for dressage riders around the globe. https://tandemnomads.lpages.co/portable-business-accelerator-22/ () What you will learn: How you can make a portable business out of anything! This episode marks a big transition in Tandem Nomads. It is time for me to leave New York City, where this adventure started over 5 years ago, and move to Austria to start a new chapter. Although it is a very emotional time for me as I leave the place that I have called home for the longest time in my life (7 years), on the business side nothing will change. I am so grateful that I get to continue to do what makes me feel most complete and fulfilled and stay focused on my business goals. That is what Tandem Nomads is indeed all about, building a successful portable business that allows you to build the flexibility you need while creating your own source of revenue and impact. However, although a portable business model provides location independence, it does not automatically provide a sustainable revenue through life transitions if it does not have the right foundations for long term growth. In fact, your business model may be portable, and you may be able to run your business from anywhere, but what if you need to slow down for personal reasons during a geographical or life transition? Are you able to continue to show up consistently and grow your business, or do you have to pause your activities and your focus on the business? "Although a portable business model provides location independence, it does not automatically provide a sustainable revenue through life transitions if it does not have the right foundations for long term growth."In this episode, I share with you the important factors that will allow you to keep your business running even when you need to slow down. I will also lift the curtains behind the scenes of my business, what I've done to prepare for this big transition, dramatically reduce my working hours while continuing to provide you with my podcast episodes to support you in your journey on a weekly basis and serve my clients with even more impact. https://tandem-nomads.ck.page/502530a5d9 (Download your workbook and sign up to the newsletter to receive information on future free workshops.) https://tandem-nomads.ck.page/502530a5d9 () What You Will LearnWhat the real benefit of a portable business is Why a portable business model is not enough to make your business sustainable through transitions How you can build the solid foundations for long term growth Resources And Inspiration:https://tandem-nomads.ck.page/9bda2ca626 (Sign up to the Tandem Nomads newsletter and receive information on future resources and workshops) https://tandemnomads.com/212 (Breaking the taboos about entrepreneurs' mental health) https://tandemnomads.com/231 (When should I make the jump from wearing all the hats to creating a team?)
