New Sode; Normally you would think NFTs are highly aligned with my values; art, fraud, scam, vapid, a sort of ponzi scheme for those without an MBA who majored in Visual Art and minored in Fascist Dance Theory. Alas, you'd be wrong, but only because they are so ugly and art auctions without paddles are without a semblance of adrenaline and theatrics. Pass. I've been saying since the Tony Blair Administration, that NFT NYC is the least relevant crypto society events, although not nearly as tragic as Tethered to Lake Cuomo. NFTs have always reeked of energy of those who missed the Solana boom and Uranium puts. I can just as easily screenshot a photo and post it on Instagram, hashtag Blockchain and NFT, print it out, Elmers glue some rainbow sprinkles, hang it next to my taxidermy and tell everyone it sold for 300k in a private sale in exchange for a gun and a few liquid AVAX gleaned from an underground subterfuge subnet. Normally, I would stay safely in the confines of my zero knowledge existence high on opiates and dydx perp trades, with a side order of shorting Hut8 with my housekeeper, but I made an exception. The Duchess Isabella Duke of the Upper East Side, a fellow OG glitterati Gossip Girl Pon de Replay with a hot bod and pseudo ivy league degree in Bitcoin Maximalism and Ordinals was in town. Her background is startling. She was the Head Communications of Ordinals turned Bitcoin Venture Capitalist of Art for Bitcoins. Ordinals. These are real NFT's, with serial numbers like prisoners ala Jean Valjean In Les Misérables #24601. In my quest to discover what the fuck this industry actually does, as decentralized finance sounds like Communism with an impending Soviet invasion, I remain deeply skeptical of any financial system that is not Ronald Reagan's trickle down voo doo economics.I trust Isabel. I have known her since we used to chainsmoke outside of the Met in Grade 8 instead of Shakespeare class because that is also how Gwyneth won the Oscar for Shakespeare in Love. All the world's a stage Satoshi. I have watched her career transform from Diet Coach to the Stars to her journey into Satoshi's inner circle and cultivating real NFTs on Bitcoin. I relate to a manic pendulum of a career, except that I do not have one, but relate. As the General Partner of Unchained Fund, Isabel replete with her Armani business suit, and notable accolades, assured me that Bitcoin not crypto and Bitcoin with serialized art is very different than what I have been privy to. You see, serialed art on the scarce hard money asset like gold and oil that will bank the unbanked in its rarest and purest form like the blood of Jesus Christ , where it all started, are actually really useful NFT's and they are harder and better. Like a poorly trained KGB agent on the brink of defectation, I grill Isabelle on the culture of Bitcoin Maximalism and ultimately try to understand how to make Maximalism chic. Ultimately, Bitcoin maximalists are gun loving, both meat and vegan eating philosophic cowboys with deeply passionate views on sovereignty and freedom. I asked Isabel if she thought Blockchains should talk to each other, like schizophrenics and like a true fellow brilliant sophisticated deeply thoughtful worldly woman, thought perhaps. A brilliant sophisticated deeply thoughtful worldly woman, thought perhaps. Maxi Culture is indeed chic with Isabel setting the tone.

Casey and Erin welcome Isabel Foxen Duke to the podcast to discuss how bitcoin synergizes with left and progressive causes.
You sent us your questions about how to get the hell out of diet culture, and Virgie, along with health coach Isabel Foxen Duke, are here to answer them! They talk about a better way to think about the meaning of hunger and fullness, and what to do when you're confronted with a choice between the lasagna and the salad (hint: just eat them both!)
It can seem impossible to break out of the cycle of dieting and binging, but health coach Isabel Foxen Duke found the key at the end of what she calls her “final binge.” And the answer isn't more dieting! Virgie and Isabel talk about “radical hopelessness,” why Nutella is the ultimate anti-diet food, and why dieting - not binging - is the real coping mechanism.
This week we are talking about binge eating and how to feel relaxed around food with Isabel Foxen Duke. Isabel has been influential in both of our journeys to recovery from dieting and also our progression into becoming anti-diet coaches and developing our understanding of binge eating. She has an incredible amount of knowledge about food and how restriction of food ultimately affects our ability to trust ourselves with what we need and want. In this episode, she shares her knowledge and over a decade of experience with us on how to truly understand why we feel so out of control around food. Isabel Foxen Duke is the creator of Stop Fighting Food, a Video Training Series & Master Class for women who want to "stop feeling crazy around food." After years of trying to overcome binge eating disorder through weight-normative approaches, Isabel discovered the critical role of acceptance, surrender and social inquiry in the binge eating recovery process—and has been sharing her insights with clients and professionals ever since. A thought leader in the Intuitive Eating and Body Positive movements, Isabel has been featured in publications like Elle Magazine and Refinery 29, and has been widely praised by influencers like Ricki Lake and Lena Dunham. Summer Innanen is a professionally trained coach specializing in body image, self-worth, and confidence. She helps people all over the world to stop living behind the numbers on their scales through her private and group coaching at summerinnanen.com. She is the best-selling author of Body Image Remix: Embrace your body and unleash the fierce confident woman within and the creator of the flagship You, On Fire – an online group coaching program dedicated to helping people break out of the diet culture cage, get free from body shame and live life on their own terms so they can wear, say and do what they want. She is the host of Eat The Rules, a podcast dedicated to anti-dieting, body image, intersectional feminism, and empowering people to live life on their own terms, where she has interviewed leading body image and anti-diet experts and activists such as Isabel Foxen Duke, Virgie Tovar, Chrissy King, and Ragen Chastain. She has been featured in Refinery29, FabUplus Magazine, The Huffington Post, Beautiful Magazine, and featured on several chart-topping podcasts including, Food Psych, Listen to Your Body, and The F*ck It Diet Podcast. She lives in Vancouver, BC Canada with her husband and toddler son. On this episode of the Food Junkies podcast, we bring you Clarissa's BEST FRIEND from high school, Summer Innanen, to talk about all things body image, body neutrality, and healing from body dissatisfaction. Summer is the best-selling author of Body Image Remix, host of the podcast Eat The Rules, and creator of You, On Fire – an online group coaching program dedicated to helping people get free from body shame. She also co-runs the Body Image Coach Certification program helping anti-diet professionals learn to work with clients around body image. Growing up, and in high school, Clarissa and Summer both had body image issues but Clarissa doesn't remember talking about it or sharing any deep conversations about what they thought of themselves. After high school, we both began an unhealthy and disordered relationship with food where we struggled with weight, diets, and the societal pressures to be thin. Even at their thinnest they still hated our bodies. Today Summer shares her personal journey to body image recovery and healing. She shares how body image develops, how diet trauma affects us, perfectionism, why we are always comparing ourselves to others, and how we must let go of the relentless pursuit of thinness and free ourselves by rejecting the rules and reclaiming our power. How changing the way you feel about your body isn't actually about liking the way you look. Clarissa and Summer have different stories of healing and recovery with food. While Clarissa's includes being abstinent from addictive foods, Summer's lead her to an intuitive eating approach where she stopped trying to makeover her plate and start making over what was going on inside her head. Just because we don't eat the same way doesn't mean we can't heal the same way when it comes to transforming the way we see ourselves and igniting our hope, our power, and shifting our outlook on life. So in this episode, we don't talk about the food, we talk about the thoughts and feelings about ourselves that often lead us to EAT THE DRUG FOODS to drown out the noise and numb out. Today's guest has been a friend for nearly a decade and a guest on this podcast more often than anyone else. In a departure from the wide-ranging conversations we usually have here, today we focus on about a topic she's recently been exploring. There's no better person at explaining concepts to me than my friend Isabel Foxen Duke. You might know her as as a leading expert in the body positivity and body neutrality space. Her work has been seminal in my eating disorder recovery, and she was my introduction into areas including fat politics, intuitive eating, and health at every size. She's someone I trust deeply, so when she told me she was learning about cryptocurrency, I was all ears despite finance and tech being intimidating subjects to me. According to Bloomberg, 85% of Bitcoin owners are men, so I wanted to have a woman on to talk about it. Isabel's patience in explaining esoteric concepts gave me a baseline understanding and sparked a curiosity to learn more. We used my beginner's mind to record a non-intimidating introductory discussion, specifically about the economic problem millennials and Gen-Zers are facing and how Bitcoin can be a potential solution. I ask for clarification often during our discussion so I hope you too might get some of your questions answered. Even if you're uncertain about your interest in the topic, it's not a dull conversation because IFD is one of my favorite people to speak to. Eine Zusammenfassung und Übersetzung des vorherigen Interviews mit meinem Gast, der Expertin für Binge Eating, Isabel Foxen Duke.
I lucked out on this one and got none other than Isabel Foxen Duke as my first podcast guest. The woman responsible for me making this podcast and doing anti-diet work in Germany. We talked about binge eating, emotional eating and its ties to dieting. In this episodes we dive deep into dietculture and how it's even still effecting intuitive eating. You don't want to miss this one
About a year ago, after experiencing some increasingly bothersome hormonal symptoms, I received a diagnosis of PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. My doctor advised me that if I wanted to improve the condition on my own without birth control or other medications, I might want to consider losing weight. That statement is loaded for anyone, but especially for people recovering from disordered eating, as I have been for 20 years.I felt into her recommendation, and was surprised by what I discovered. I wanted relief from these hormonal symptoms. Maybe, just maybe, I thought, I could experiment with re-entering the fitness and diet maze on my own terms, with the wisdom I’ve acquired over the past 20 years of recovery at my side.I embarked on a journey of re-orienting to nutrition and exercise in a program that I loved, with a mild hope that any weight loss would help relieve my symptoms. I had a surprisingly empowering experience, and in the process, I lost 20 lbs.A few weeks ago, I recorded an episode of the podcast called “Things I Learned From Losing 20 lbs.”, chronicling what I learned through this process, including the surprising shame that comes with weight loss when in eating disorder recovery.I received some great feedback about the episode, including some important critiques that by centering weight loss in the title and connecting weight with health, I was playing into a harmful idea that weight and health are related.I called my friend Isabel Foxen Duke, founder of the Center for Weight Neutral Coaching, and asked her if she’d be willing to talk to me on the podcast about my potential blind spots on the subject. She agreed, and I’m very excited to share that conversation with you today. You’ll hear about:- The medical industry’s agenda when it comes to weight loss, and what my doctor should have said regarding treatment of my condition, instead of “lose weight.”- The ties between the diet industry, white supremacy and capitalism, and how diets are precisely designed to fail so that we will keep buying them- Resources to begin a sustainable journey of re-orienting to health at every size

What is the diet binge cycle - a period of feeling in control around food followed by a period of feeling out of control around food (the force compels me) What a diet really is Why the diet binge cycle using gets worse over time with each consecutive diet The thought patterns behind behaviors around food Dieting as a state of mind How IE can be a diet if you’re approaching it from diet mentality Looking at food as a thing that I use to try to control my weight Fear based relationship with food Why it’s important to get to the root of your anxiety around food rather than just “fix” the behaviors Dieting is not trendy. What is trendy is “lose weight through this other non-dieting way” Why the way we approach supporting physical health is super important How to make choices that support your health that are not rooted in diet mentality Why it separating weight from health is number one Why gentle nutrition needs to be on the back burner for the beginning of your journey Why there is a need for perspective shift in managing chronic disease through an anti-diet approach Why there is not an easy answer to “how long will it take to heal from the diet/binge cycle?” How most people have one foot in and one foot out of diet recovery How eating disorders are really anxiety disorders Feeling stuck in recovery and why support is so helpful Find Isabel on isabelfoxenduke.com

Isabel Foxen Duke shares her personal story of chronic dieting and how her quest for thinness ultimately led her to treatment for an addiction to cocaine. She shares about how she recovered, moments of clarity she had, and insight into her healing process. She talks about the perils of the hunger and fullness diet and how she broke free from it. It's fitting to air this episode during New York Fashion Week. From what I've heard, for those in the industry it's a week with no-sleep, harsh style comparisons, high stress, and a triggering one for those recovering from disordered eating. This week's conversation os with the founders of The Chain, a peer network for women in fashion and entertainment is fitting. Co-founded by writers Ruthie Friendlander and Christina Grasso, the group is particularly active during NYFW, supporting and connecting their community. The Chain's message is useful to anyone regardless of industry who has struggled with body image and disordered eating. I met the founders at one of their events this spring and loved their vulnerability in how they discussed their recovery ups and downs. I've learned a lot from them, like how disordered eaters tend to be good liars and that self honesty and support are key to true recovery. We recorded this in Ruthie's apartment this summer and covered their experience with disordered eating, what helped them, as well as what they've created with The Chain. My friend writer Rose Truesdale appears in the intro where we talk about travel and disordered eating a bit too, enjoy this episode. It is being able to choose food you like and eat it and truly get enough of it-not just stop eating because you think you should. Normal eating is being able to use some moderate constraint in your food selection to get the right food, but not being so restrictive that you miss out on pleasurable foods. Normal eating is giving yourself permission to eat sometimes because you are happy, sad or bored, or just because it feels good. Normal eating is three meals a day, most of the time, but it can also be choosing to munch along. It is leaving some cookies on the plate because you know you can have some again tomorrow, or it is eating more now because they taste so wonderful when they are fresh. Normal eating is overeating at times: feeling stuffed and uncomfortable. It is also under eating at times and wishing you had more. Normal eating is trusting your body to make up for your mistakes in eating. Normal eating takes up some of your time and attention, but keeps its place as only one important area of your life. In short, normal eating is flexible. It varies in response to your emotions, your schedule, your hunger, and your proximity to food." Today’s guest is a badass and a half. Not sure what that means, but I guess I said it because what she does for a living is badass, and she herself is a badass, totaling to one and a half parts of badass. Or I guess that’s really two parts badass. I’m really not great at math. By day, Isabel Foxen Duke helps women stop feeling crazy around food - specifically women who are trapped in “diet land.” And by night, she practices what she preaches, which is intuitive eating, health at every size and filtering her social media to maintain a positive body image. She also eats a lot of Burmese food, which, in case you dunno, means grub from various regions of Myanmar. (MY_ANN-MARR). I could’ve talked with Isabel for hours and hours, which is why this episode is especially long, because as you’ll hear, I needed my own crash course in diet culture with a side of fat phobia 101. I am so jazzed up about the work Isabel does and I love more than anything her tell-it-to-em-straight, no BS tude, dude! K now put on your suspenders and nudge those nerdy glasses up your nose because school is in session! Get psyched to hear: How being put on a diet at age THREE affected Isabel’s relationship to food from prettttty much the very start of her life. What the deal is with “health at every size” and how it could legit change your life and your relationship with your body. Isabel’s crystal clear and helpful definition of “binge eating” which made my use of the word seem rather ridiculous. How to get started with intuitive eating! Fat phobia 101. Isabel Foxen Duke shares on PHIT for a Queen Her first diet was as a child encouraged by her pediatrician from that point felt she was always in a dieting cycle. Finally, after years went to treatment for binge eating learning that binges are caused by dieting. The constant pursuit was the problem in itself. We must separate health from weight. Making a wellness mask for vanity. There is NO evidence that larger bodies cause chronic illnesses. “Blaming poor health on fatness is like blaming lung cancer on yellow teeth” Linda Bacon Culturally we have given people the opportunity to make dieting a moralistic value. We now know that dieting leads to bias thus making weight a status symbol Stop saying healthy when you mean skinny Trying to lose weight by dieting is like trying to win money with the lottery Most people that have lost weight on a diet have had some rebound. We must address our own weight bias I was taught to fear weight gain and thin was rewarded Prioritize mental health as part of your health equation! I am so excited to share with you my guest interview with Isabel Foxen Duke. I have to admit to being a little bit of a fangirl of Isabel and her work. I have struggled through a lot of the stuff that Isabel is so brilliant with working with women on like weight-cycling, food issues, and emotional eating. She helps women stop feeling crazy around food. So, are you always on the diet wagon or waaaay the f**k off it? I myself have zero neural pathways around healthy thinking or belief systems as far as food goes. Sure, I’ve learned a few things through therapy and from doing the work, but I still am really early in my own weight recovery journey. I can guess that many of my listeners are in a similar boat. And that’s why I invited Isabel to the show. She shares her expertise on letting go of the struggle with food and also offers great insight on weight recovery and its effect on relationship dynamics. Show Highlights Isabel shares openly about her experience with diet culture starting at the age of 3 years old (yes, you read that correctly - she was put on a diet at the age of 3) (5:42 seconds) Letting go of the struggle and how Isabel came to the work she is doing now (21:22) Surrendering to ‘bottoming out’ and understanding that eating a cookie when you are sad is a-okay (28:55) The delusion of control and how recovery is the process of surrendering over and over again (29:27) What surrendering actually looks and feels like (32:00) Weight restoration, understanding that gaining weight when you stop dieting is completely healthy and recovering from post-diet trauma (33:31) Shame over clothing sizes, body image issues and cutting through your own B.S. rationalizations (45:19) Healthy weight gain post-recovery, its effect on relationships, and being with someone who does not support your recovery (47:20) Dealing with family and friends who you can’t divorce and do not understand your weight recovery journey (1:03:20) Learn More About Isabel: Isabel Foxen Duke is the Creator of Stop Fighting Food — a free video training program for women who want to "stop feeling crazy around food." Mastering Your Food Cravings - The Low Carb Universe Conference 2017 It was truly an honor for me to be invited to deliver my signature talk - Mastering Your Food Cravings at the Low Carb Universe conference. The talk that touches people's hearts when I'm on the road, when I'm at conferences or when I meet people for the first time. Normally, I am not allowed to share those talks because they are proprietary to the conferences that I speak to, but the organizers of the Low Carb Universe, Hanna and Bitte did me a huge favor and allowed me to share this with you on this podcast. This a live recording of the talk that I did. It had a phenomenal reception during the event that so many people came to me a day or two after secretly pulling me aside and told me how the event and how my talk had changed their lives. Mastering Your Food Cravings is about teaching people what it means to go beyond the food, how we go about healing and crushing our craving by addressing our thoughts, mindset and emotions and the whole science behind it. We shouldn't avoid emotional eating because when we turn emotional eating into something to avoid as much as dieting, we fall in the trap of diet mentality and all its negative side effects such as overeating and binging. Isabel Foxen Duke is a brilliant leader in the Health At Every Size movement and this interview will rock your world! Must listen! The Reason Why We Overeat and Binge Perfectionistic expectation will absolutely lead to rebellion. When applied to food, it will lead to binging and overeating in the same way that perfectionistic expectation to work will lead to burnout. We cannot uphold those expectations. It's impossible to keep it up all the time, so we end up crashing. We crash in proportion to how rigid we were trying to hold on. And it's important to understand this concept if we really want to understand the reason why we overeat and binge. The more you attempt dieting, the less you are likely to stick to one. Historically, we've always been emotional eaters. When we look at the evolution of the human being, we've eaten emotionally, socially, so we cannot cut it off. So, when we try to cease emotional eating from existing, we end up being on the wagon, off the wagon, on the wagon a.k.a. yo-yo dieting. The problem with most people is that they haven't addressed the diet mentality that's why they fail to understand the reason why we overeat and binge. Looking from the Inside Diet mentality goes more than just a relationship with food. It's the way we approach life in general. We often look at our happiness through a solution that is external to us instead of looking at finding happiness, joy, and fulfillment from inside. In the same way we relate to diet, we think that controlling our external environment a.k.a. our food will lead us to happiness instead of looking from the inside. If you think that you are going to find happiness by eating a certain way, not only you aren't going to find it there, but you are probably going to fail at it, to begin with. What's interesting is that, when we put perfection to our food, chances are we also apply perfection in many other aspects of our lives because we lack trust in ourselves. What does your body want you to eat? That only solves half the problem. The other half of the problem is how we think. It's how we talk to ourselves. Are we living in diet mentality? Are we approaching food like is a thing that we should be careful around? Body Image Issues I'm overweight, but I'm healthier than 90% of the people out there. The reason is because it has nothing to do with weight. Weight is not a causal effect of health, just a by-product. This desire for weight loss beyond health is what we call the body image issue. Ninety-nine percent of food issue boils down to body image issues. Majority of disordered eating behaviors start with “I don't think my body is enough and I feel like I should try and change it by restricting my food.” If you never had the thought, “I wish I was thinner,” you would never have gone on a diet, you would never deal with this binge eating, emotional eating problems. Emotional eating is heavily correlated with dieting. The more you diet, the more you restrict, the more you're going to turn to food for comfort and that clearly gives us a better perspective on the reason why we overeat and binge. Health at Every Size “It's a lot easier to stop obsessing about food when we feel good about ourselves.” There is a whole movement that is trying to demonstrate that beautiful people come in different shapes and sizes. There's a ton of evidence that if you are exposing yourself to body diversity visually on a regular basis, it will actually start to change your brain. It will change the way it looks at bodies including your body, thereby, transforming how you tackle body image. Last week's episode, I talked about the 6 powerful benefits of gratitude and how it can change everything. Yes!... including food obsession. I suggest you check it out! ***TW*** The first part of this episode Isabel shares her struggle with a co-occurring eating disorder and substance use disorder, and we talk extensively about using illicit drugs for the express purpose of weight loss. I've done my best to edit as many triggering details as possible, but if you feel this might be triggering for you, listen to the intro, then fast forward to minute 20:15 to hear the remainder of our conversation - the rest of the episode will still make sense and is full of great insights. Isabel Foxen Duke was featured on ep. 30 of the BodyLove Project podcast and this week she is BACK with a totally new, interesting, and important conversation. This episode will kick off the first of a three part series about the intersection of eating disorders and substance use disorders and in this episode, Isabel is sharing her personal experience with a co-occurring diagnosis. Interestingly, she highlights that her recovery from her substance use made recovery from her eating disorder difficult and confusing as she quickly got shuttled from AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) to OA (Overeaters Anonymous) to help her control her “binge eating” and “food addiction”. It wasn't until Isabel was out of treatment that she later discovered that her compulsive eating was a direct result of restriction and definitely not due to a food addiction. We dig deep to explain why so many of us have bought into the food addiction myth, and some simple ways to overcome feelings of food addiction. Remember every morning that you have no idea what's going to happen. Shed yourself of expectation. Let that be a thrill. It won't all be figured out right now, and it doesn't need to be. 2. Don't resist the moment. Allow what's happening to happen. Sink in and get comfortable with whatever human experience you're having. 3. Practice the skill of enjoyment. Practice enjoyment as an active verb, rather than a passive one. With Isabel's wisdom and my curiosity, we were guided into such a beautiful, spiritual conversation. Isabel, thank you so much, Sister, for showing up so big on today's episode. I'm forever a fan! Have an amazing weekend you guys and don't forget to connect with Isabel. She's amazing! The 2 biggest misconceptions that fuel diet culture and make us crazy around food. Why exposing yourself to images of women with same and larger sizes than your own can actually help you shift your body image.
