In this solo episode of Turning Lemons Into Lemonade, I tell you about one of the worst days in my LIFE - not just my business.  A couple of months ago, my 14 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Emma, passed away. Emma had been with me and Mike for 14 years, since she was just 12 weeks old.  I told the story of the first night we picked her up, and the next morning, taking her spunky little self to Petco for all the puppy things she needed! Emma was truly one of the absolute best companions - as an 11 pound animal that would go into a bag, and under the seat on airplanes, never making a PEEP - she went just about every where I went within the continental US! Well, a few months ago, Emma passed away on a Sunday morning. And it WRECKED me!  She had been becoming more and more frail, but I still wasn't prepared for it!  I spent an entire day in bed, sobbing. But on Monday morning, I had to get up and gather myself together and show up for my client appointments!  I talked about how mindset really made a difference in how I made it through that first week - still meeting my responsibilities - even when I wanted to crawl in a hole and cry for days!!! This episode is for all of you women who have had really sucky stuff happen in your life - that derailed your business!  It's a sad one - but SUPER real!  I hope you enjoy the stories! Love, Amy

My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who has such a story of overcoming work issues, personal issues and what the hell do i do issues, that its a delight to have her on todays show. As she says "I grew up outside Chicago and come from a family of employees. I was the first in my family to move from the midwest, and the first to leave a steady paycheck and become an entrepreneur; and I swear it caused my Mom to have to start blood pressure medicine with worry! I was always taught to work hard, get into a good college, get good grades, get a good job, and save toward retirement. I met my husband Mike on vacation in Hawaii in 2001 and moved to San Diego. I joined a small boutique financial planning firm where my most well known clients were owners of Ford, Chuck E Cheese, and Vinturi Wine Aerator. In 2005, Mike and I bought our million dollar dream home, and less than a month in (we hadn't even made the first payment yet, and Mike lost his job). So, my income and hard work became more necessary and critical! Despite sitting at the dining room table with some of the most amazing business men in the world, I just wasn't enjoying it any more! In 2008, I had a minor stroke. I was VERY lucky, but the stroke shed a lot of light on my life and priorities. I had my stroke on Sunday. I was in the hospital until 8 pm Tuesday night, and was back at my desk by 8 am the next morning. I had put SUCH a high value on being dependable and achieving, that I didn't even take any time off to rehabilitate or just take a breath. I knew this life wasn't working for me, but I was the primary breadwinner for our family, and we were counting on that steady paycheck." And that is where we will begin this episode of Join Up Dots. So how did she go from this point and create her own image of success, leading to a life that she didnt dread every morning? And does she look back and think "What the hell was I doing? Why did I push myself through such punishment" Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Amy Mewborn.

On today’s episode, Amy Mewborn discusses how she jumpstarted her career and now designs strategies for others to do the same. Amy is a serial entrepreneur, CEO, author, and operations and strategy expert. She teaches women business owners how to use technology and systems to leverage their business growth and maximize profits through automation. In this episode, we discuss, -Amy’s health journey and how she escaped the 9-5 -Building an information highway through automation technology -What to do if your launch falls flat in the online space -Mindset challenges women need to address to kick start their business -And so much more!   Amy discusses the importance of taking action when branching out into new business opportunities. In Amy’s experience, she states, “You have to have the courage to take a risk, because if you don't, one day you will wake up and your entire life will go by and you've been going through the motions but never really got to where you want to be. Listen to your intuition, no one knows what is better for you than you do yourself and do as much research and be as well prepared as you possibly can.”   Amy describes the reciprocal relationship between passive income streams and personal independence as a result of automation.   She states, “The more time that you can free up from the things that you are doing, the more revenue streams you can potentially create, the more income you can have, the more clients you can see, and the more time you can have off and have fun…That’s when our creative energy starts to flow.“   Amy embraces taking risks because failure can offer an equally beneficial learning experience. From her experience, she states, “Had I given up after falling flat on my face the first time, I would have just thought I would never be able to make it… it's just about going back and looking at what worked and what didn't work and how you're going to adjust going forward.”   For women who are hesitant to pursue a new venture, Amy reassures us that, “As women, we always wonder if we are good enough—is what I have to offer really any different or more valuable or anything better than what is already out in the market place? We don't think about how we do business with people we know, we like, and we trust… We constantly have to break through that mindset that we are not enough because there is probably someone out there who is just like us and is waiting for us to share our gifts and secrets with the world.“   For more information about Amy:   Amy Mewborn is a serial entrepreneur, CEO, author, and operations and strategy expert.
