In this episode, we explore the controversial and intriguing topic of church discipline through the lens of Ananias and Sapphira's judgment in Acts chapter 5. We explore how this severe biblical event parallels other divine judgments in Scripture and discuss its implications for understanding God's justice and mercy in the New Testament era. Additionally, we touch on the recent high-profile conflict at the James River Stronger Men's Conference, providing context and reflection on how disputes are being approached within the church community.LinkTree:https://linktr.ee/AllisonParkLeadershipNetworkEmail:Jeffl@allisonparkchurch.comDavel@allisonparkchurch.comInstagram:@Jeffleake11@Dave.Leake
1. The sin-2. The seriousness-3. The result
"Righteousness guards the man of integrity, but wickedness undermines the sinner." Proverbs 13:6 Confronting hypocrisy is a crucial aspect of our spiritual journey. Just as Ananias and Sapphira fell into the trap of greed and dishonesty, we must guard our hearts against similar temptations. Proverbs 11:3 reminds us that the integrity of the upright guides them, while the perversity of the treacherous destroys them. The story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts chapter 5 serves as a sobering reminder that God detests dishonesty and lack of fear in His followers. Their lie led to severe consequences, emphasizing the importance of living with honesty and reverence towards God. Remember, integrity is the compass that guides our steps, leading us down the path of security and trustworthiness. Proverbs 10:9 says, "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out." Let us strive to emulate the example set by Joseph in the Bible, who remained steadfast in his integrity despite facing adversity. Just as Joseph resisted Potiphar's wife's advances by choosing righteousness over sin, we too can overcome temptation through faith and obedience to God's word. Remember, lies may tarnish the soul, but honesty polishes it to a radiant glow that pleases the Lord. As we confront hypocrisy within ourselves and others, let us seek wisdom from God's word to guide us towards a life marked by truth and authenticity. May we always remember that honesty and reverence are key components of a faithful heart that pleases God. Let this serve as a call to examine our motives, actions, and attitudes daily, striving to live with integrity and transparency in all aspects of our lives. Amen. Proverbs 12:22 says, "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight." Amen. Prayer for the Day! Oh, Almighty Father, I humbly come before you seeking your guidance to walk in the path of righteousness and integrity. Please bestow upon me the wisdom and strength to resist the temptations of deceit and dishonesty that may lead me astray from your righteous ways. Grant me the discernment to distinguish between what is good and true, and what is corrupt and misleading. In Jesus' name. Amen. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastor-divineo/support

Let us all trust the Holy Spirit to enable us to live lives that would worship, honor, and give glory to God.
On Sunday Steve Hambrick stepped into Acts 5, one of the most difficult stories in all of the New Testament but also one of the most sobering. It is a story of sin infiltrating the early church, God's response, and the holy fear that spread among everyone who heard about it. It is an important but difficult message that each of us needs to wrestle with!

Full Question: What did Ananias and his wife Sapphira do in Acts 5:3-4 that would cause God to take their lives so quickly? I have always considered this to be blaspheming. Am I wrong? It couldn't be because they lied; I know we would all be dead. The Holy Spirit had led them to sell their property so that it could be shared by all and out of greed (representative of the acts of sin through Satan) they thought they knew better than God of where that money should be allocated. I believe they promised the whole amount to share among all and then reneged on that promise. Matthew 5:33-36 It is better not to promise anything and then if the spirit leads then to share or as Christ put it not letting your left hand know what your right hand is doing (not giving Satan a foothold into the decision) Matthew 6:3-4. What we're seeing in this remarkable event is God disciplining His church. He's revealing His standard of holiness and showing us the danger of hypocrisy. What may seem to us to be a small, insignificant sin, a lie told about an amount of money being given as a gift, we discover was viewed by God as an alarming spiritual danger which had to be removed immediately. Clearly, in His mind, there was no room in the church for this level of hypocrisy, for hearts that only pretended to love Him, for people willing to lie to the Holy Spirit. In this dramatic encounter God reveals the need for church discipline. He shows us what to discipline, and that discipline ought to be done quickly, which, of course, doesn't mean hypocrites must die. This particular couple's death was a divine act which God, in His infinite wisdom, chose to perform in order to protect this young church, and to teach succeeding generations a lesson that wouldn't be forgotten.
In this episode Keith takes a hard look at the evidence to figure out if God really struck down this husband and wife for the sin of withholding their offering, or if the Apostle Peter killed them as a lesson to others. What are the clues that Peter did it rather than God? Let's solve the mystery together.Check out all the QuoirCast podcasts at patheos.comTo purchase Michael Camp's book, Breaking Bad Faith, go to Amazon.
