Bassist Jonas Reingold joins the podcast to talk about the new Karmakanic album 'Transmutation', touring with Steve Hackett, Cruise to the Edge & more. Transmutation releases on 7th March 2025 and will be available on CD, vinyl, and streaming platforms. Celebrating independent artistry, all formats will be released on Jonas's own label, Reingold Records: https://www.jonasreingold.se/ Reingold has enlisted a stellar lineup of world-class musicians to bring his vision to life. Among them is his longtime friend and musical companion, Steve Hackett (Genesis), who delivers breathtaking guitar work throughout the album. Drum legends Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who, Judas Priest), Nick D'Virgilio (Big Big Train, Spock's Beard, Mr. Big), and Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson, Steve Hackett, Frost) provide a rhythm section of extraordinary depth. For the first time, Reingold collaborates with vocalist John Mitchell (Asia, Lonely Robot, Frost, Arena), whose gritty, soulful voice perfectly complements Reingold's melodic compositions. Additionally, Randy McStine delivers lead guitar firepower, marking their first collaboration since The Fringe in 2016. The album also features an all-star lineup, including Lalle Larsson, Andy Tillison, Tomas Bodin, Luke Machin, Göran Edman, Rob Townsend, Roger King, and Krister Jonsson, among others. Recorded across Nashville, Los Angeles, Germany, and Austria, the album delivers a breathtaking sonic experience, mixed by five-time Grammy-winning engineer Chris Lord-Alge (Rolling Stones, Muse, Tina Turner, Prince) at his Los Angeles studio, MIX LA.
Andy Tillison from Progressive Rock band 'The Tangent' Talks to Phil Aston about the new album 'To Follow Polaris' Phil Aston | Now Spinning Magazine
Andy Tillison from The Tangent returns to talk to me about the new album To Follow Polaris, which is a unique record in the band's catalog. The primary reason for this is because it's all Andy this time. With his bandmates' busy schedules, Andy decided to have a go at a Tangent album himself, playing all the parts and trying to get into the headspace of his bandmates. The result is another solid release from The Tangent and it was kind of Andy to take the time to tell me about what went into making it. Learn more about The Tangent at https://www.thetangent.org. This time I welcome Andy Tillison of The Tangent as my special guest for the 50th Episode of Bleeding Edge Interviews! He chatted with me about To Follow Polaris, the 13th studio album from The Tangent, and a very unusual album in itself!
Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Andy Tillison is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and the leader of the progressive rock group The Tangent. The Tangent, hailing from Northern England, weaves cinematic and lyrical music, often addressing observations about our world. Their compositions defy traditional prog rock norms, embracing influences from various genres, including jazz, modern pop, progressive rock and more. Notably, the band avoids the stereotypical 12-string acoustic sound associated with classic prog rock, preferring a fresh and eclectic approach. The band's philosophy centers around openness to contemporary bands and styles, transcending the boundaries set by the '70s prog rock icons. Their debut album, The Music that Died Alone, released in 2003, garnered attention as a “supergroup” project, although Tillison prefers to describe it as “a good idea” rather than a supergroup. Through personnel changes and fluidity, The Tangent continues to create music that defies conventions and resonates with listeners. The Tangent recently announced the release of a new studio album ‘To Follow Polaris' on May 10th, 2024. The album was produced between January and November of 2023. The brand-new release features Andy Tillison using his multiple keyboards system but adds to the mix his first ever released performance on Bass Guitar and his second on stick driven (electronic) drums. Add electric and acoustic guitars and an electronic wind controller and this is a full band recording in every sense of the word.
For this week's episode, The Tangent's Andy Tillison joined me to discuss his band's new album, "Songs from the Hard Shoulder."
