In 1984, Angela Samota was a junior at Southern Methodist University with a bright future ahead of her. She was double majoring in electrical engineering and computer science, was active in her sorority and was well-liked by everyone she met. Until one night when she tried to help someone in need. It would take an old college friend to provide the pathway needed to finally find justice for Angela.
Donald Bess went twenty four years thinking he had gotten away with murder. This would have been the truth had it not been for the perseverance of one woman. Sheila Wysocki made it her life's mission to solve Angela Samota's cold case. The lengths she went to to make sure that the dirtbag who killed her best friend paid for his actions is truly remarkable and is unlike any other case you've heard. Find out what happens as Matty Matt discusses the case of Angela Samota. On the night of October 12, 1984, Samota and two friends, one male and one female, went to the State Fair of Texas. Samota's boyfriend did not join them because, according to the subsequent police report, he was working in construction and said he had to get up early the following morning. The three friends went to the Rio Room dance club and stayed there until "after midnight." According to subsequent testimony of the male who accompanied the two girls, Samota "was going [from] table to table, talking to people" and seemed like "she knew everyone." On October 12, 1984, Angela "Angie" Marie Samota was a vibrant, outgoing, and beautiful 20 year old college student obtaining her degree in computer science and electrical engineering, something women did not typically study at this time, when police found her sexually assaulted and slain in her condo near campus after a night of partying with two friends. Her case went cold and was solved 24 years later due to the perseverance of her friend, Sheila after a supernatural occurrence. Her killer is not who was expected. **I decided to make this episode a mini episode, as the holidays have had me very busy, and I've come down with a nasty cold. :( ** OG Release Date: 01/01/2020 Sources: Crime and capital punishment. This week, we're looking at crimes solved by ordinary people - from podcasters, to amateur sleuths, to moms on a mission. These are the cases police couldn't, and often, wouldn't - solve, so join us as we cheer on these investigative heroes picking up the slack where the real investigators drop the ball. Featuring a pecan orchard hiding terrible secrets, a boogeyman in a van, a KKK criminal held accountable, and an exoneration that began with a letter to Golf Digest. Normally we'd say stay off our lists, but if you feel inspired to get sleuthing, we hope you make it on this list specifically! On November 12th, 1984, 20-year-old Southern Methodist University student Angela Samota spent the night out with friends before visiting her boyfriend, Ben McCall, and returning home. Angela called Ben to let him know there was a man in her house who needed to use the bathroom and her phone. That was the last time anyone would ever hear from Angela. Worried, Ben drove to her house and called police, only for them to discover Angela had been raped and stabbed 19 times. With very little evidence and one main suspect they were unable to connect, police would let the case go cold until Angela's college roommate ,Sheila Wysocki, decided to take matters into her own hands.
