As billionaire Peter Thiel takes his Antichrist lecture tour around the world, Patrick and Jonah return to Scripture to ask what John actually meant by “Antichrist.” Drawing from Revelation, the letters of John, and Vladimir Soloviev's haunting story The Antichrist, they explore how this archetype appears whenever the self refuses to bow, refuses to be wounded, refuses to love through sacrifice.Against the world's fascination with power and control stands the Lamb—wounded yet overflowing with life.Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. Patrick and Jonah turn to Revelation 13 and the image of the beast from the sea—a being wounded unto death, yet healed. What kind of resurrection is that? Together they explore how domination, power, and self-preservation tempt the human self to “heal” without changing. In contrast, the Lamb bears a mortal wound that pours itself out for the life of the world. This episode asks: what does real transformation look like? How can a wound become the doorway to grace? And what does it mean to find protection, not in avoiding suffering, but in offering ourselves through it?Listen to the full conversation and find extended reflections at patreon.com/c/ccseminary.Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. As the flood from the dragon's mouth pours across the world, Patrick and Jonah explore how the Book of Revelation describes the protection of those who remain faithful: the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and a love stronger than self-preservation. Together they reflect on what these mean for our time—the torrent of egotism, the culture of self, and the call to keep the heart open even amid the onslaught. Drawing on the imagery of Michaelmas and the woman's eagle's wings, they ask how moral courage, humility, and sacrificial love can help the human being stay buoyant when the flood rises.Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. What is God ripening in humanity? In this episode, Patrick and Jonah return to the harvest image and turn to Revelation 12: the woman clothed with the sun, the great red dragon, and Michael's battle in heaven. They reflect on how the drama continues on earth with the woman's offspring—those who keep God's commandments and bear the testimony of Jesus—and what it means for each of us to live between the protection of heaven and the trials of the dragon's rage.Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. In this first episode, Patrick and Jonah open the larger theme of the series: the confrontation with evil. They observe how this reality marks our contemporary age with particular force. They then turn to their own life experiences. Patrick asks Jonah to describe the first moment he truly knew he was encountering something he would call evil. Jonah recalls a core spiritual experience in which a snake-like being revealed itself within him as a young man. In turn, Jonah invites Patrick to share from his own life, and Patrick remembers both the presence of a “spirit of division” in his family and a terrible tragedy in his neighborhood. From these stories, they draw out archetypal expressions of evil that begin to form a groundwork for discernment. The conversation then turns to Jesus' encounter with the adversary in the wilderness, as described in Mark's Gospel: “with the wild beasts and the angels.” Scripture tells us that this event—Jesus being driven into the wilderness to face the tempter—was brought about by the Spirit of God. But why would the Spirit lead a human being into such an encounter? And if Jesus himself had to undergo it, what does the Spirit intend for us to gain by facing the powers of evil? These are the questions Patrick and Jonah begin to unfold—questions that will guide the journey of this new series in the weeks and months ahead.References:·       Mark 1:9–13 (ESV)– “In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.' The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.” See also, Matthew 4:1–11; Luke 4:1–13 (offering other accounts of Jesus' temptations in the wilderness).·       Augustine on evil:o   Confessions VII.12 – “Therefore, whatsoever is, is good. Evil, then, the origin of which I had been seeking, has no substance at all; for if it were a substance, it would be good.”o   Confessions VII.16 – “And I asked what wickedness was, and I found that it was no substance, but a perversion of the will bent aside from thee, O God, the supreme substance, toward these lower things, casting away its inmost treasure and becoming bloated with external good.”o   Enchiridion XI – “For what is that which we call evil but the absence of good?”Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. Born in the United States, Murphy joined the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the 1980s and was stationed in Colombia during the height of Escobar's reign of terror. Alongside his partner, Javier Peña, Murphy worked tirelessly to dismantle Escobar's Medellín Cartel, which was responsible for a significant portion of the cocaine trafficked into the United States during that era.Murphy's efforts, often at great personal risk, contributed significantly to the DEA's operations in Colombia and the eventual downfall of Escobar in 1993. His experiences during this tumultuous period were later dramatized in the popular Netflix series "Narcos," where actor Boyd Holbrook portrayed him.Following his retirement from the DEA, Murphy has become a public speaker, sharing his experiences and insights on law enforcement, international drug trafficking, and the challenges of combating organized crime. He also co-authored a book titled "Manhunters: How We Took Down Pablo Escobar," which provides a detailed account of his and Peña's roles in the high-stakes operation against the Medellín Cartel.Steve joins the podcast to talk about the search for Pablo Escobar but also to talk about working with law enforcement in a different country and how to avoid the appearance of the "ugly" American. This season was A LOT. So many people, places, incidents, etc. to keep track of, especially over the course of a month. Here we've taken out the intros and outros from episodes 2, 3 and 4 so that you can just follow the story straight from start to finish. You didn't ask for it, but we think you'll really enjoy a re-telling in a more straight forward and easy to follow manner! The full four episodes were too long to upload together so we've split it into 2, easy to listen to in a row, episodes. This season was based on one of Ashley's favorite podcasts of all time, Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia. As the title explains, the podcast is about the murder of Elizabeth Short (aka "the Black Dahlia"), as well as the Hodel Family. In this season, Ash and Megan, from Give Us Morgue, explored the man behind the mystery of who killed Elizabeth Short, George Hodel, and the generational wake of terror and destruction that he left, causing members of his own family to name the podcast the "Root of Evil" after him.-In their first episode, Ashley and Megan, dug into the murder of the Black Dahlia and introduced the man who killed her, George Hodel.Trigger warning for graphic details of sexual assault, torture, and mutilation.-In their second episode, Ashley and Megan, dug further into Elizabeth Short's murderer, George Hodel. Hodel was a genius, with an IQ one point higher than Einstein- he was literally an evil genius. A highly regarded doctor who allegedly raped and murdered multiple women.Trigger warning for sexual assault and incest.Listen to the Part II to hear episodes 3 and 4!Special thanks to Rasha Pecoraro and Yvette Gentile for allowing us to tell their family's story. Sisters Yvette Gentile and Rasha Pecoraro are primarily recognized as the co-hosts of the wildly popular podcast “Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia,” a 2020 iHeartRadio ‘True Crime Podcast of the Year' nominee. The dark story of their mother Fauna Hodel's life became a six-episode limited television series “I Am The Night,” which premiered in January 2019. Yvette and Rasha have returned to the airwaves with a new weekly podcast, Facing Evil. In their latest venture, the siblings bring their unique perspective of growing up in a family with a dark history, to true crime with a focus on the victims and individuals at the heart of the stories.  Outside of podcasting, Yvette is also an actor, model, and sandal designer with her husband Gino. She is an avid yogi who trains for and practices classes specific to individuals confronting distress and long-term grief and pain.  Rasha was a fierce competitor on “The Biggest Loser” in 2006. Since then, she's advocated for beauty at any size as a plus-size model and married her wife Vanna in 2010. She is a proud LGBTQ+ advocate and activist, mother, as well as an actor and voiceover artist.  Listen in to hear Rasha and Yvette share: What it was like for Rasha to marry a man on national TV after being a contestant on the Biggest Loser - and then realize she was gay and come out out of the closet in a very public way The impact of their unique sister relationship of being a gay-straight passing blond woman and a black biracial woman - standing side by side as sisters What it's been like for both Rasha and Yvette to embrace the spotlight in a big way as the layers of their family story is shared across multiple media platforms The impact and imprint of many tragic true crime stories on US history How they have intentionally stayed away from sensationalism and salaciousness in true crime podcasting, and instead opted for sharing humanity, compassion, and empathy in their stories Links mentioned: Podcast: Facing Evil Facing Evil on IG Rasha on IG Yvette on IG Thank you to our sponsors this month: care.com: Get the help you need to make it all work for your family at care.com/book.  Full-Time VA: Check out this free training on how to be a virtual assistant that makes full-time income with part-time hours: thefulltimeva.com/Shameless. Owner Amanda Rush Holmes is also including a bonus free guide for SMA listeners - The VA Kickstarter Workbook!
