In the race for California governor, Democratic frontrunner Xavier Becerra faces allegations that he failed to protect migrant children when he served as health and human services secretary under the Biden administration. But are those attacks fair? Marisa is joined by the New York Times reporter Hannah Dreier, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her 2023 investigation into what was happening to the huge influx of unaccompanied migrant children pouring into the U.S. She found that the federal government was not keeping tabs on these minors after they were released to adult sponsors. Most of them, desperate to send money home and pay off sponsors, took illegal jobs that were often punishing and dangerous. Join us for a town hall at KQED with Tom Steyer, a top Democrat in the race for governor. Steyer will be talking with KQED's Guy Marzorati and taking audience questions on Tuesday, May 26 at 6:00pm at KQED headquarters in San Francisco. You can register for the event at KQED.org/events. Asians are disproportionately gambling at Massachusetts casinos. They are also disproportionately addicted, in debt, and in trouble. A recent Globe investigation found that casinos have extensive strategies to target Asians and encourage them to gamble more than they can afford. While the state spends millions to help with gambling addiction disorders, most of the resources are not reaching Asian problem gamblers. Reporter Chris Serres talks to Say More's Shirley Leung about what can be done. Email us at saymore@globe.com. Read "A Losing Bet" from The Boston Globe here.
Part 2 of our interview with James Lasdun, author of The Family Man, gets into the evidence from the night of the murders that was never put in front of the jury.SLED built a full timeline of Alex's activity on June 7th. But the version prosecutors showed the jury had names removed — men with criminal records who were in phone contact with Alex hours before the killings. Alex had deleted his call log for that entire week. The book connects dots that remain officially unconnected. The defense wanted to put Cousin Eddie on the stand as an alternative suspect. Eddie had failed a polygraph about the murders and told SLED an absurd fabricated story when they asked what he knew. Prosecutors pulled Eddie from the witness list to block that cross-examination.Lasdun also surfaces physical evidence that was never explained at trial. Maggie's car with the seat pushed back. Unidentified tire tracks near the bodies. And a phrase Alex allegedly used — "things just got all fucked up" — that led the author to build a theory about a staged attack gone wrong. The thirteen minutes of silence at Moselle may be more complicated than either side told the jury.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In the 1990s, scientists investigated MACHOs (Massive Compact Halo Objects), like dim stars or black holes, as dark matter candidates. However, extensive searches failed to find enough of them, reinforcing the particle-based WIMP theory. A major shift occurred in 1998 with the discovery that the universe's expansion is accelerating, a phenomenon attributed to Dark Energy. Current models suggest the universe is 68.5% Dark Energy, 26.6% Dark Matter, and only 4.9% baryonic matter. Dark energy behaves like Einstein's cosmological constant (lambda), an idea he once considered his "worst mistake" but which now seems necessary. Schilling uses an empty water bottle analogy to illustrate that the vast majority of the universe's composition—both dark matter and dark energy—remains a complete mystery despite our ability to measure its effects. Send us Fan MailThis podcast will be niche. It is an in depth assessment about the Society of Psychical Research's investigations into three famous mediums of the 1920s. Eva C., also known as Marthe Béraud or Eva Carrière, and Mina Crandon, better known as Margery and Dorothy Stella Cranshaw, aka Stella C. Most people will find it dull, although quite shocking in places; but I enjoyed researching it.This podcast is recorded in one take with no editing. I probably mispronounce some words. There may be some background noise, chickens and there is a nightingale singing outside in the rain.
California voters are beginning to receive mail‑in ballots as the June primary election approaches, with some ballot drop boxes already open across the state. Election officials are encouraging voters to return ballots early, reminding them of key deadlines and options for voting by mail, drop box, or in person. What happens when a young girl begins to suffer attacks… from something no one can see?In 1925, 11-year-old Elenore Zugun became the centre of one of the most disturbing poltergeist cases ever recorded. Witnesses claimed objects moved on their own, unseen forces struck her, and most chilling of all… bite marks appeared on her body while people watched. Was this a case of possession?A genuine poltergeist?Or something far more human—and far more complex?Investigated by neurologists, observed by aristocrats, and later examined by famed paranormal researcher Harry Price, the Zugun case sits at the crossroads of belief and skepticism. Even today, it refuses to give us a clear answer. In this episode of True Hauntings, we follow Elenore's story from a small Romanian village to the laboratories of Vienna and London… uncovering the witnesses, the evidence, and the theories that still divide opinion nearly a century later.

What really happens during extraterrestrial contact? In this fascinating episode of Soul Elevation, Kara Goodwin speaks with Debbie Jordan-Kauble, one of the most well-known UFO contact experiencers in modern history. Debbie's encounters inspired the book and television miniseries Intruders, and her case was investigated by renowned Harvard psychiatrist Dr. John Mack. Debbie shares the extraordinary story of her 1983 encounter in Indianapolis that involved missing time, mysterious orbs of light, strange beings, physical effects on the environment, and a mysterious craft in her family's backyard. What followed was a multi-year investigation by pioneering UFO researcher Bud Hopkins, including soil testing, psychological evaluations, witness interviews, and documented physical evidence. Over time Debbie's perspective evolved from fear and trauma to empowerment and deeper understanding. Today she explores the consciousness aspect of contact, multidimensional realities, and humanity's evolving relationship with non-human intelligence. This conversation explores how extraordinary experiences can transform a person's life and open new questions about the nature of reality, consciousness, and our place in the universe. If you are interested in UFO contact, extraterrestrials, multidimensional realities, or the deeper spiritual implications of the phenomenon, you won't want to miss this episode.
