Marcus Oubre is an endangered missing person from Louisiana who disappeared under mysterious circumstances on August 23, 2023. He was last seen at approximately 9:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. leaving a Walmart store on Siegen Lane near the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He reportedly mentioned he would be gone for a few days, but he has never been seen or heard from since. He was officially reported missing a few days later, on August 27, 2023. Ajike Owens went to her neighbor's house in Ocala, Florida on June 2, 2023 to confront her about harassing her children. While knocking on a closed, locked metal front door, AJ was shot in the chest by Susan Lorincz. Lorincz tried to claim self defense with Florida's “stand your ground” laws, but there is no question she killed Ajike out of malice after years of harassing the families in the neighborhood. Jason Marous was a 36-year-old construction estimator from Ohio who was shot and killed on January 6, 2023, while sitting in his parked vehicle outside his apartment complex in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Surveillance footage captured a heavily disguised individual walking in the immediate area at the exact time of the shooting. The person was wearing a beanie, long sleeves, pants, a full face mask, and distinctive reflective running shoes. Despite extensive efforts by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Jason's murder remains an unsolved cold case. Maggie Hume was 20‑year‑oldwoman from Battle Creek, Michigan who was found murdered on August 18, 1982, after failing to show up for work. The investigation quickly split between the Battle Creek Police, who suspected her boyfriend Jay Carter, and the Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office, who believed her downstairs neighbor Michael Ronning was responsible. Because the two agencies could not agree on a suspect, the case stalled and was never brought to trial. Jarkeius Adside was a one‑year‑old Miami toddler who vanished on October 18, 2001 during what his babysitter, Gwendolyn Brown, claimed was a violent home‑invasion robbery. Brown said armed men tied her and her boyfriend up and took the baby, but investigators quickly doubted the story after finding Jarkeius's blood‑soaked mattress and sheets inside the home, along with drugs and a two‑hour delay before 911 was called. No suspects were ever identified, no arrests were made, and Jarkeius has never been found — leaving his disappearance an unsolved and deeply troubling case. Suzy Lamplugh left her real estate office to meet “Mr. Kipper” at a home in London in July 1986. She never returned and to this day, she remains missing. Police believe she was abducted and murdered and a prime suspect has been named. But 40 years later, her family does not have answers. Michael Negrete, an 18‑year‑old UCLA student, vanished on December 10, 1999 after returning to his dorm room around 4:30 a.m. after chatting with a friend. Later, his roommate found all his belongings — wallet, ID, keys — still in the room with no signs of struggle. Extensive searches by campus police, local law enforcement, volunteers, and scent dogs uncovered no trace of him, and witness reports near campus and on bus routes were never confirmed. Over the years, investigators pursued numerous leads, interviewed friends and classmates, and considered possibilities ranging from voluntary disappearance to foul play or accidental death. To this day no body has ever been found, no arrests have been made, and the case — one of several high‑profile disappearances in Los Angeles at the time — remains open as of July 2026, with law enforcement still accepting tips. In August 1994, Sherry Lewis was showing a vacant home in Decatur, Illinois before attending the town's summer celebration festival. When she didn't show up, her family was concerned. Then, Sherry was found dead in the home she was supposed to be showing. To this day, her case remains unsolved. Three years later, two states away in Pennsylvania, Charlotte Fimiano had an appointment to show a home in Bethlehem. She never returned home, and the next day, she was found murdered. Her case also remains unsolved with no suspects and no motive. While the cases are unrelated, it is a reminder that this could happen to those showing houses. Taylor Parker murdered 21‑year‑old Reagan Simmons‑Hancock on October 9, 2020, in Reagan's New Boston, Texas home while Reagan was 36 weeks pregnant. Parker had spent nearly a YEAR faking her own pregnancy, and when her supposed due date passed, she became desperate to maintain the lie. Parker attacked Reagan, then performed a crude, unauthorized C‑section to remove Reagan's unborn daughter, Braxlynn Sage. Parker fled with the baby and falsely claimed she had given birth on the side of the road. Doctors quickly determined she had not given birth, and investigators connected her to the murder scene, where Reagan's body was found. Parker was arrested that same day and ultimately convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death in 2022. When Suzanne Pilley didn't show up for work at her office in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 4, 2010, everyone who knew her was immediately concerned. In the early morning hours of July 31st, 2022, 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla drove her car over 100mph into a brick building in Strongsville, Ohio. Mackenzie survived the crash, but the other two passengers, her boyfriend 20-year-old Dominic Russo, and the couple's friend, 19-year-old Davion Flanagan, did not. Kayla Rose Huff, a 16‑year‑old from Moberly, Missouri, was reported missing on May 6, 2026, after she failed to return home and stopped responding to her family. She was last seen walking with her 17‑year‑old boyfriend, who later became a juvenile suspect. A massive, week‑long search focused on the Rudolf Bennitt Conservation Area, a large, remote wilderness spanning three counties. Police later arrested five adults and one juvenile, filing multiple charges. The community held vigils, prayer gatherings, and memorial events. James Bulger was just two years old when he was abducted from a mall in Merseyside, England in February 1993. Two ten year old boys kidnapped, tortured, and murdered James and then became the youngest convicted murderers in modern British history. Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were true monsters, but only spent 8 years in prison. They were then given new identities. Septic Tank Sam was the nickname given to an unidentified murder victim found on April 13, 1977, in a disused septic tank on an abandoned farm near Tofield, Alberta. Because investigators could not identify him for decades, he became known as “Septic Tank Sam". Betsy Aardsma was doing research for her English paper at Penn State on November 28, 1969 when she was attacked in the Stacks at the Pattee Library on campus. Despite multiple people being nearby when she was stabbed and seeing the man who presumably stabbed her flee, her case went cold and remains that way today, nearly 57 years later. Eric Grady Smith was a 42‑year‑old mine foreman from Cedar Bluff, Virginia, who vanished on November 8, 2013 after leaving home early to hunt on his 40‑acre property. An experienced outdoorsman and respected supervisor at the Buchanan No. 1 coal mine, he was last seen wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a .50‑caliber muzzleloader. On March 30, 1972, a man named Donn Mueller walked into the police station in Frontenac, Missouri to file a missing person's report for his wife. He hadn't seen 43-year-old Marie Beulah Mueller since March 5th. Donn claimed Marie left him and the kids, as they were in the middle of a divorce, but when police started looking more into the Mueller's lives, they questioned whether that was what truly happened. Paislee Shultis was 4 years old when she disappeared in 2019. In the rural province of Entre Ríos, Argentina, a family vanished without a trace. On January 12, 2002, Rubén “Mencho” Gill, his partner Margarita Gallegos and their four children spent the afternoon with friends, returned to the farm where they lived, and were never seen again. Their belongings were left behind: clothes, documents and even Margarita's paycheck. They had no vehicle and no known conflicts. Their employer waited three months to notify relatives. Years later the police searched the ranch and found strange clues including traces of blood but no bodies, no suspects, no explanations were ever found. In August 2014, 19 year old Heather Mack was on vacation with her mother, Sheila von Weise in Bali, Indonesia. Little did Sheila know, Heather had purchased her boyfriend, 21 year old Tommy Schaefer, a plane ticket to Bali. When Schaefer arrived, the couple executed a plan they had been concocting: they were going to kill Heather's mother to get her inheritance. The West Memphis Three case centers on the brutal 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys—Stevie Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers—in West Memphis, Arkansas. Police arrested three teenagers, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr., who became known as the West Memphis Three. In part 2 we'll go over Jesse and Damien's trials and how the prosecution argued the killings were part of a satanic ritual, a claim influenced by the era's “Satanic Panic.” Jesse did confess to the murders after a long interrogation, which became a key piece of evidence, though he later recanted the confession and it's been heavily debated over the years. On February 27, 1995, Cheryl Feeney, her 6‑year‑old son Tyler, and 18‑month‑old daughter Jennifer were found murdered inside their Springfield, Missouri home. The house appeared ransacked, though investigators later questioned whether the scene had been staged. At the time of the murders, Jon Feeney, their husband and father was attending a teachers' conference at Lake of the Ozarks. Despite his alibi, he became the prime suspect, and investigators spent over a year building a circumstantial case involving alleged financial motives, extramarital affairs, and claims of a staged crime scene. Jon was indicted in April 1996 and went to trial that September. On October 5, 1996, Jon Feeney was acquitted on all counts. The case remains officially unsolved and continues to be one of Missouri's most debated family‑murder investigations. One of the most infamous cold cases in the true crime community has long been the Austin Yogurt Shop murders, a quadruple homicide in Austin, Texas in December 1991. Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers were brutally killed inside an I Can't Believe It's Yogurt! before the perpetrator set fire to the crime scene. Unfortunately, the case went cold, and despite an eventual conviction of four young men, the case remained unsolved until 2025, when genetic genealogy identified the true killer. Four year old Nyleen Kay Marshall disappeared on June 25, 1983, in Helena National Forest near Clancy, Montana. She was attending a picnic with her family and playing with other children near a creek. Nyleen was last seen talking to an unidentified man wearing a jogging suit when she seemingly vanished within minutes. Authorities conducted a massive search involving thousands of volunteers, helicopters, and tracking dogs, but no trace of her was ever found. Two years later, an anonymous man sent letters and made phone calls claiming he had abducted Nyleen and was raising her, though investigators were never able to identify him or confirm the claims. The case remains unsolved and is still considered a non-family abduction. Dana Ireland was on vacation in Hawaii in December 1991 when she was struck by a car while riding her bike. She was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and left for dead, and she died from her injuries on Christmas Day. After going cold, her case was eventually “solved” with three suspects being indicted, charged, and convicted. On April 16, 1990, brothers Basil (8) and Jamal (7) Abdul'Faruq were dropped off at their mother's apartment in Richmond, Virginia. Around 2:30 p.m. they went outside to play while their mother slept after a night shift. When she woke and couldn't find them, she looked for 45 minutes before calling the police. A search of the apartment complex and nearby woods found nothing. Three days later, on April 19, a worker at the Shoosmith landfill in Chesterfield County found a body. One child is deceased, the other is still missing. No suspects have been publicly named, and no arrests have been made. The case is active and unsolved in both Richmond and Chesterfield County. In 2006, an unprecedented resource was created to allow the public to identify and access data about sex offenders nationwide. The Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website, or NSOPW, was signed into law in 2006 as a result of “Dru's Law” – legislation created after 22 year old Dru Sjodin was kidnapped and murdered by a serial rapist who had been released from prison despite being classified as a Level 3 sex offender – meaning he was likely to reoffend.
