On June 1, 1985, 34-year-old Kathryn Wilhoit was found murdered in her Tulsa, Oklahoma apartment. Her throat had been slashed, and her body was discovered on the floor by officers conducting a welfare check. Her two infant daughters were found unharmed in their cribs nearby. Her estranged husband, Greg Wilhoit, was later convicted of her murder and sentenced to death. After serving five years on death row, he was exonerated when forensic evidence—including bite mark analysis used at trial—was discredited. Despite his release and full exoneration, Kathryn's murder remains unsolved to this day. Krissy Zarn, one of Kathryn's daughters, who was just a baby at the time of the crime, reflects on growing up in the aftermath of a tragedy that shattered her family, her father's wrongful conviction, and her ongoing pursuit of justice for her mother nearly 40 years later. Despite the formidable case presented by federal prosecutors against Sean "Diddy" Combs—including allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and coercion—his defense team has not conceded defeat. Their strategy involves acknowledging Combs' history of abusive behavior while arguing that these actions, though reprehensible, do not meet the legal definitions of the charges he faces. By admitting to being a "terrible boyfriend," the defense aims to separate personal misconduct from criminal enterprise, suggesting that the prosecution's portrayal conflates morally objectionable behavior with illegal activity. This approach seeks to challenge the prosecution's narrative by emphasizing the distinction between personal failings and criminal conduct.Additionally, the defense is scrutinizing the credibility and consistency of the prosecution's witnesses. For instance, during cross-examination, they highlighted messages from Cassie Ventura that suggest a degree of consent and mutual participation in certain activities, aiming to cast doubt on claims of coercion. By questioning the reliability of testimonies and the interpretation of evidence, the defense hopes to introduce reasonable doubt among jurors. While the path to exoneration is narrow, these tactics underscore that the outcome of the trial remains uncertain, and the defense is actively working to challenge the prosecution's case.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Diddy Trial Going His Way So Far, Legal Analysts Say: 'Acquittal Likely' - Newsweek

Exoneration, Continuation… and a S3x Tape... Let's Talk About It!
Join Katie and Liz on this week's episode of True Crime New England where they tackle another harrowing exoneration case. In May of 1991, a man named Kenneth McLean was shot and killed in Roxbury, Massachusetts, supposedly after a drug deal went wrong. A teenage witness, who admitted he didn't see the face of the shooter, only a notable ponytail, later identified Robert Foxworth as the killer. He was subsequently tried alongside two other men, who he did not even know, who were said to have been present at the shooting. Unfortunately, due to some withheld evidence and a violation of Foxworth's Sixth Amendment right, he was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of first-degree murder. What followed was nearly 30 years of legal battles, in which Robert Foxworth fought hard for his freedom, claiming innocence the entire time.
The Law of Lori Exoneration or Delusion Lori Vallow Daybell says she will be exonerated. Not maybe. Not possibly. She is certain. And she's saying this from behind bars, awaiting trial for the murder of her fourth husband, while her current husband sits on death row. If there's one thing Lori has always had, it's confidence—whether it's in her bizarre religious beliefs, her devotion to Chad Daybell, or her ability to deny reality even when it's staring her in the face. This week, she sat down with NBC's Keith Morrison for what's being described as an “extensive and often combative” interview. And if there's anyone who can handle combative, it's Keith Morrison. The full special is set to air on 'Dateline,' where Lori, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and purple handcuffs, tells the world exactly what she wants them to believe. She's going to be exonerated. Not only that—she's seen the future, and in that future, she and Chad are free. She claims Jesus himself showed her this vision when she was in heaven. Now, most people who claim to see heaven aren't sitting in a jail cell convicted of murdering their own children, but then again, Lori has never been like most people. Lori was sentenced to life in prison in 2023 for the murders of her two youngest children, 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as for the murder of Chad Daybell's first wife, Tammy Daybell. The details of those crimes were horrifying—JJ and Tylee's bodies were found buried on Chad's Idaho property, their remains showing the unthinkable levels of brutality they endured. Tammy's death, originally ruled natural, was later determined to be a homicide. Chad was convicted of the same crimes. His fate, however, was different. In 2024, he was sentenced to death. The man Lori still refers to as her eternal husband is now waiting for his execution date while she sits in an Arizona jail, awaiting trial for yet another murder—that of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. Charles had long suspected Lori's descent into religious extremism was dangerous. He tried to get help, to warn people. Then one day, in July 2019, he was shot dead by Lori's brother, Alex Cox, who conveniently died later that same year, taking any potential confessions with him. Lori, undeterred by any of this, is still talking. In the upcoming 'Dateline' special, she's not just giving her side—she's doubling down. It's not a confession, and it's certainly not remorse. It's Lori being Lori. Believing that no matter what happens, she's special. She's chosen. The rules don't apply to her. The special also features interviews with key figures in the case, including Rexburg police detective Ray Hermosillo, Madison County Sheriff Ron Ball, Madison County prosecutor Rob Wood, retired FBI agent Douglas Hart, and journalist Nate Eaton, who has covered the case from the beginning. But the voice that carries the most weight belongs to Lori's eldest son, Colby Ryan. Colby, the only surviving child of Lori's, has watched as the mother he once knew disappeared into a twisted world of doomsday prophecies and murder. And in his interview, he doesn't hold back. He describes how the way his sister was treated, even after her death, was so depraved it changed the way he sees people altogether. And he's right—because what happened to Tylee wasn't just a murder. It was something that defies humanity. This will be the seventh 'Dateline' episode dedicated to Lori and Chad, and if history is any indication, it won't be the last. The fascination with this case isn't just about crime—it's about belief. About how two people could convince themselves they were on some divine mission while leaving behind a trail of destruction. For those who still can't wrap their heads around how any of this happened, 'Dateline' might provide some answers—or at least another look into the mind of a woman who remains convinced she's destined for something greater than a prison cell. 'Law of the land' says she's guilty. 'Law of Lori' says she's getting out. #LoriVallowDaybell #Dateline #TrueCrime #ChadDaybell Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? MATTHEW 6:14-21 The Lord said, "If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. We are going on a journey up a mountain – we should not carry things that are not worth having. This is part of the connection between forgiveness and fasting; “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…” Holding onto grudges – remembrances of wrongs – is the polyunsaturated meal that multiplies like the food in Gurgi's magical sack: no matter how much we eat, there is always more. But the more we eat, the more we are weighed down, the more damage we do to our souls, and the less capable we are of the theotic climb to holiness. Three types of letting go. Exoneration: this is the ideal – wipes the slate clean It was an accident – no intent The actor was a child or an innocent; reconciliation should not even be threatened and should automatically be restorred The person is truly sorry; takes full responsibility; asks for forgiveness, and shows through their actions that they are reliable partners in love IN THESE CASES FULL EXONERATION IS REQUIRED; THE WORLD BECOMES BETTER WHEN WE DO AND WORSE WHEN WE DON'T “If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee.” Matthew 129:3-4. Forbearance Apology is qualified or inauthentic Let go of the thought “Forgive but don't forget”; setting of boundaries Allows us to maintain relations with people we cannot avoid or that we love Allows for the possibility of eventual exoneration as the person grows in goodness In scripture; all the commandments to be patient with one another and for the strong to bear the burdens of the weak speak to this kind of forgiveness. Release No recognition of wrongdoing No repentance No expectation that the person will not do it in the future FORGIVENESS OF THIS KIND.DOES NOT EXONERATE Liberating. “And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.” St. Matthew 10:14. Three Mistakes many of us make: Reconciling when it hasn't been earned through repentance There is not more heartfelt sorrow and desire for forgiveness than that offered by the addict or the one who is set to lose things they value because of their sin. There is also little less reliable. Reliability is an attribute of love. Those adults who cannot be relied on to be reliable do not deserve complete reconciliation. They have earned boundaries of various types. Some belong in category three. Those who demand reconciliation because of the depth of their feelings may be either sincere or manipulative, but it takes discernment to determine if complete reconciliation should be given. For those with whom we have a good history, this can be done in steps. Taking offense when none was intended. We are terrible at discerning intent, but we jump to it so quickly. Offer grace and, if needed, a conversation. Flowing from this: Coming at relationships like lawyers or police interrogators rather than friends and Christians. We've got a mountain to climb… Forgiveness is one of the great superpowers granted to us; let's use it properly.

Author Barbara Bradley Hagerty has written a riveting and important new book about the wrongful murder conviction of a man named Ben Spencer. Ben's experience in the criminal justice system and his decades-long struggle for justice expose the desperate need for criminal justice reform. In her book, "Brining Ben Home: A Murder, a Conviction, and the Fight to Redeem American Justice", Barbara tells Ben's story, shining the harsh light of truth on a system that often seems more intent on closing cases and winning convictions than complying with the legal and constitutional rights of defendants.I had the privilege of providing a blurb for "Bringing Ben Home":"As someone who spent three decades as a trial court prosecutor, I was horrified by the casual callousness that led to many of the wrongful convictions detailed in this important, beautiful, and infuriating work."To purchase "Bringing Ben Home": https://a.co/d/ab3BknOEvents for Ben Spencer and Barb Bradley Hagerty: March 15 and 16, 2025: Tucson Festival of Books (Barb only)1209 E. "Witch Hunt" explores Maryland's forgotten witch trial history through a revealing conversation with attorney Elizabeth Pugliese-Shaw, who's spearheading efforts to exonerate those accused of witchcraft in colonial Maryland. While the colony saw fewer witch trials than its Puritan neighbors, these cases still resulted in tragedy – including the 1685 execution of Rebecca Fowler and the death of Moll Dyer, who froze to death after townspeople drove her from her home. Pugliese-Shaw discusses how Maryland's unique status as a Catholic colony with religious tolerance laws may have influenced its handling of witch accusations. She shares promising developments in her exoneration campaign, including a pre-filed legislative resolution to posthumously clear the names of Maryland's accused witches. Through historical records and enduring local legends – including Moll Dyer's story, which later inspired "The Blair Witch Project" – this episode illuminates a lesser-known chapter of colonial American history while examining modern efforts to address historical injustices. There's a conviction & all seems right... until blood from the scene matches up to a stranger!
