EVERYDAY DISCIPLES S1:E1Everyday Disciples, where we prioritize Following the way of Jesus in everything, everywhere, every day.And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17 SHOW NOTESWelcome to the Everyday Disciples podcast, where we discuss what it means to follow Jesus in everything, everywhere, every day. At Crossroads, one of our values is being everyday disciples. Being Everyday Disciples means our relationship with God is intended to shape every part of our lives. There is no separation between the mundane and the spiritual. Our life with God isn't confined to a moment on Sunday morning; it is to be lived every moment and in every setting. [If you'd like to dive into this concept further, these passages are a good starting point: Matthew 5:13-16; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:13; Psalm 145:2; Luke 9:23; Daniel 12:3 Philippians 2:14-16] In this first season, we will explore 8 habits and practices that help us to better follow in the way of Jesus. Along the way, we will take questions from you - our listeners - about the things you are thinking through, facing, or wrestling with and bring those into our conversations. In this first episode, we are asking: Who are you following? What does it mean to follow Jesus? and where do we start?Over the next month, we encourage you to practice intentionally orienting your days to pay attention to God's presence. We will engage in three practices together. These are tools not rules. The aim of these practices is to intentionally aim our days toward Jesus. Perfect action is not the aim, drawing closer to Jesus is. PRACTICES FOR THE MONTH:1. TAKE AN AUDIT OF WHO YOU ARE FOLLOWINGWho are the voices, the authors, the thinkers, the people you are giving weight to in your life? Are they drawing you closer to God or pulling you away?2. BEGIN YOUR DAY WITH SCRIPTUREScripture before your phone, news, or anything else. Let the first voice of your day be the word of God.3. END YOUR DAY WITH REFLECTIONTake a few minutes (even as you are falling asleep) to simply ask these three questions:- God, where did I see you move today?- God, what do you want me to pay attention to (good/bad) from my day?- God, what do I need to release to you right now?(Feel free to make the language your own. Again, the aim is to end your day with God) RESOURCES:The Bible - If you need a place to start go to one of the biographies of Jesus written by Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.Crossroadslive.com/jesusSaturate by Jeff VandersteltLife with Jesus by Tim ChesterPracticing the Way by John Mark Comer

Aaron explains how he went from using heroin and meth to having a great job, a wife, and kids. Aaron also fancies himself a bit of a horror movie buff. Listen until to the end to hear Greg test that knowledge out.

Reconnect Part 7: Disposable By Bill Corley Original Air Date: 2020.07.19 Reconnect! Relationships…God created us for relationship; God Himself is a relational God choosing to live and walk with His creation. He created man and woman for relationship in marriage with the ability to have children for a unique parenting relationship. He gave us brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. We have friends, coworkers and neighbors to have relationships with. People and relationships are a gift - but why are they so hard??? When sin entered the world, not only did our relationship with God change, but our relationships with everyone else changed too. With sin came pride and selfishness, and even when we're trying to do the right thing, we often make mistakes and hurt others, or they hurt us. So how do we do this? How can we enjoy the relationships God intended with Himself, our husband or wife, our children, friends, family and everyone else we connect with? How can we reconnect? We hope you will join us for the Reconnect series, where we will take a biblical approach to godly relationships in marriage, parenting, dating and friendships. The Reconnect series focuses on relationships for ourselves and children, as well as how to love those who are hard to love or those who we need to establish safe boundaries with. At Crossroads we free offer resources and counseling for those who need a little extra help. If you would like to talk to someone for personal, marriage or family counseling, please call the office at (760) 384-3333 or text (760) 301-4840. Help Me! | I'm Afraid, Part 2 By Dionne Salmonds Original Air Date: 2020.05.03 Life is full of ups and downs. Recently the world has been united in a way we didn't expect – the Coronavirus. As we experienced the lightning-speed pace of changes and new rules, self-isolation, social distancing, economic failure and shortage of medical and other supplies, it has been emotionally exhausting to say the least. Life in general presents challenges that leave us feeling sad, angry, fearful and lonely, but never more have we been tested and stretched emotionally than we are now. It is our hope and prayer that this series is timely for each of us, our families, and our friends, as we experience the roller coaster of emotions that this time in our world has brought. The good news about emotions is that they are normal! However, being able to have control over them rather than them controlling us is the challenge – but God…has a plan! His word offers hope, direction and practical application to conquer the overwhelming emotions we, or others we love, wrestle with. We hope you will join us in our “Help Me” series where we will learn to understand the nature and source of these emotions and how to live in a godly way in spite of them. At Crossroads we free offer resources and counseling for those who need a little extra help. If you would like to talk to someone about what you are experiencing, please call the office at (760) 384-3333 or text (760) 301-4840. If you do not currently have a free account, please email Dionne Salmonds at dionne@ccc-rc.org, and she will provide you access. A great series to begin with is “Overcoming Anxiety During COVID19” by David Pokluda (https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/394369), which addresses anxiety about the uncontrollable, the economy, isolation, and when the church can't meet. Another great resource is RightNow Media (www.rightnowmedia.org), a streaming resource filled with Bible studies, teachings, videos, and great kid's material – all available to you at no cost! Help Me! | Angry, Part 3 By Bill Corley Original Air Date: 2020.05.10 Life is full of ups and downs. Recently the world has been united in a way we didn't expect – the Coronavirus. As we experienced the lightning-speed pace of changes and new rules, self-isolation, social distancing, economic failure and shortage of medical and other supplies, it has been emotionally exhausting to say the least.
